Date night at District Winery gets 5 stars from me. The wine tour was great! Our host had lots of information and answered all of our questions. We got to taste 7 different wines and they were all unique. We had dinner to follow and it was just as great. If I have one suggestion it would be that the halibut could use a little more seasoning. Let me start off by saying that this is some of the best food I've ever had. I went to visit a friend recently in DC and she brought me to District Winery. Its located in DC's Navy Yard by the Anacostia River which I'm sure is absolutely gorgeous in the summer time. I went during the winter (still gorgeous) and they had couches outside with fire pits. The space is huge with an entire section dedicated to the winery and another section for the restaurant and bar. When you see this place, you'll be amazed by the design. I went for dinner but i'm told they have an incredible wine tasting option. We started off with a few cocktails and then shared dinner plates. I wish I remembered the names of the cocktails but I can assure you, they are hand crafted, creative and straight up delish. We had the Celery Root & Grayson Cappelletti, Rutabaga Pierogi and Cheese Trio for dinner. Check out the menu to see exactly what's in each dish and then order all of them! For dessert we had the "Caramel Apple" with caramel crémeux, cider donuts, smoked vanilla ice cream. I cant comment on their wines but I can say that the food and cocktails are incredible. I came here for brunch on a Saturday around 1pm without a reservation. The restaurant is beautiful with a fantastic waterfront view. The acoustics are really poor -- we had very loud gossip going on at both tables next to us and could barely hear each other speak. The service was not memorable, and she brought the check before even really seeing if we wanted anything else. The burger was very, very good and so we're the French fries; it was $17, but so delicious. The omlete of the day was good, but not fantastic. Overall, I enjoyed my food but the experience was only OK. I'd be willing to come back and give it another try, but was expecting better service / overall experience. read more

We decided to try out Ana at District Winery as Navy Yard is a beautiful area with many up-and-coming businesses. We made a reservation for Saturday night at 9 p.m. (perfect time btw) and prepared ourselves for fine dining experience. We ordered the crab beignets and fried brussels sprouts to start. I wasn't that hungry so I didn't order an entrée, but the birthday girl ordered the Atlantic cod and she really liked it. For dessert, we ordered the hummingbird cake and the passion fruit entremets. The food was good, but not great. It may have been that we were ordering food about 30 minutes before the kitchen was closing. The wine was interesting... They have an orange wine by the class. Because I'd never heard of orange wine, I decided to taste it. Glad I did because it wasn't something I liked. I ordered my "go to" wine instead... Malbec, and my friend had a glass of Riesling. Again, to me, it was good, but not anything special. What I loved was the restaurant set up... open spaces, wine bottle décor, floor to ceiling windows, wood interior, beautiful artwork, and the waterfront view to boot. The service was also noteworthy. We were greeted at the door with a smile, and even when we left (as the restaurant was closing lol), we didn't feel rushed. Oh! One other important thing to note. If you trying to find the entrance, do NOT go to the far end of the building. We literally walked around the block (in heels) to find the entrance. We went here for wine tasting and appetizers. We sat by the window, where we could see the sunset, and people walking along the path. It was a little chilly outside, but people were enjoying the tables outside under the umbrellas, and some had a fire in front of them, looked cozy. The harvest, crispy soy glazed chicken bites, and grilled cheese were great. Will be coming here again, definitely soon, and recommending to many others read more

I enjoyed the tasting but think that the wine is overpriced relative to quality. The cab for $36 was drinkable but pretty basic and not, IMO, any better than a bottle I could pick up at Trader Joe's for $15 or less. So--go for the tasting and tour for sure, but maybe think twice before plunking down for a bottle. read more

I came here for brunch with a friend who has excellent taste in restaurants and she didn't disappoint. As an amuse bouche they brought out a cinnamon bun covered in icing. When you cut into it it has cinnamon and some absolutely delicious sausage inside. Oh my god I could have eaten an entire platter of those things! My friend hand the green tomato shakshuka and said it was very good. I had the candle French toast and it was outstanding. I would definitely come here again especially if they were to add that unique cinnamon roll to the menu. read more

The District Winery allows customers to eat at their restaurant and/or do a wine tasting or tasting and tour in their winery facility. I didn't really know what to expect since I didn't look up the place beforehand, and that's also why there are no pictures (plus I was starving and my food came last). I came here for a brunch with a larger party of friends. I believe tables are first come, first serve, so we trickled in around 11 AM to reserve a table for our large crowd. Since we sat outside, we were asked to place our orders inside at the bar - but it allowed us to pay for all of our meals separately, which I really liked! There are still employees who drop off the food, make rounds and will clear the table, get water, etc. as needed, so I never needed to get up. I tried the Weekend brunch special and ordered the breakfast ham/egg sandwich with fries, the bacon scone, and cava as my beverage. The breakfast sandwich was good, but nothing special. But I did enjoy it and eat every bite. The fries were yummy - sprinkled with salt and pepper and freshly fried, no complaints from me! But the star of the show was the scone. Now this was FANTASTIC! I highly, highly recommend you try out the scone. The cava was also tasty, but my friends loved their mimosas too. For the tasting, you can pick from two already selected tasting options (each of 5 wines), or pick and choose what you want for a couple dollars more. The tasting is more of a "flight" than a true tasting as the bartender will pour the wine for you and when you're done give you the next on the list. There's not really an explanation of each wine or it's history. There is a wide variety of wines, and some were better than others - I was not a huge fan of any of them, but for a $15 tasting, you do get a good value, especially since a glass of wine regularly can be around $10-15. Overall, I would rate it a 4.5 Great food, ambiance, and value. Perfect for groups. read more

I've been to District Winery several times now and absolutely love the food/wines and ambience of the place! Located on the water in Navy Yard, District Winery has gorgeous views and perfect outdoor seating. My main complaint with this place is the attitude and service of its waitstaff. In the few times I've come, the three different hosts I met were impatient and rude. Similarly, the waiters were inattentive and tried to hurry us out several times during our meals. As I like this place, I'm really hoping my next encounters are better and that these were just one-off issues! read more

Came here opening night. There's a few growing pains but am very excited to see this place grow and become a staple in the Navy Yard. When we arrived we had a 25 min wait for our table reservation, not a big deal opening night this is expected and they have a stellar bar with a great bartender behind the counter, Kellen, who was fun. We got two glasses of Malbec which I would absolutely recommend. While we were waiting we met one of the owners, he was incredibly kind and gave us a quick tour of the tasting bar and the wine making facilities, cannot wait for the first Rose to come out of here Once we were seated in the trendy and industrial restaurant area. Our service was fine, I am sure with more experience with the menu the wait staff will more confidently explain and recommend what's offered. Only negative, which my boyfriend noted, is that the food portions do run small. Food is fantastic just main courses come the size of apps. (3 out of 5 here) recommend the crab beignets, Brussels sprouts and duck. As expected the wine menu is fantastic, I would most likely come here solely for that. I'm not vegan but my partner is and there were a number of options that we both enjoyed. The vegan grazing selection, olives, Brussel sprouts, cauliflower dished were amazing and more. Ample serving size and truly delicious with the wine. Meredith our server was excellent. We will be returning...soon. I was honestly pretty skeptical of this place given that it's on the water and I expected to be a bit gimmick-y and overpriced. It wasn't cheap but we had an awesome time! We walked in around 3:30 on a Saturday and put our names in for 6 people for tasting. We decided to sit down at the restaurant for a glass before we did the tasting. Thanks to our amazing waitress Danielle we ended up having our own sort of tasting at the restaurant and turned down the tasting when our name came up. She would bring over a few small pours and then we would have to taste the wine and guess which one it was. If we guessed right we would get a free glass. We never guessed correctly, but we got to try a lot of great wines! And it was so fun! I highly recommend asking for Danielle when you go to visit, honestly she's one of the best servers I've had in a really long time! we visited this DC Winery this weekend excited to enjoy the Sunday brunch. to say the service was horrible would be an understatement. Our waiter was very passive - we had to search for him several times just to get service, he checked on the table once. when told that all of our food came out cold, he brushed it off, offered no concessions and kept serving the group outdoors. needless to say, we all wondered if he was from one of those "work today, get paid today" services. If given the chance, and if the order was right, maybe this would have been a better experience. This man knows his stuff and only recommends the best. If you are open, ask Kellen what drink he recommends, and feel free to suggest what kind of drinks you like. Food: we ordered the Celery Root & Grayson Cappelletti. If ordering for self, this should be enough. If sharing, I would recommend adding another dish. Everything about this dish was amazing from then petite sliced pairs to the basil sauce and cultured butter. If being full wasn't possible, I would have ordered three more of these. We also ordered the Pomme Paillasson. The green harissa aioli added a great touch to the dish. The crispy outside and the soft inside of the potatoes actually made us stop talking. This review is only based on the restaurant portion and not the winery/wine tasting itself. From the wine to the food, everything tasted okay, it just wasn't outstanding to me. For appetizers we ordered the crab beignets and grilled octopus. He octopus was pretty good, but the crab beignet cools have definitely used more crab. It was just like eating hush puppies at that point. I got the steak for dinner and it was pretty standard, nothing special. The place is big and it has a pretty nice decor. Cyndy's Bottom Line: High priced new American food. The reviews and hype made Ana more than what it actual is. The overall experience was unwhelming. Although the cocktails are inventive. Hubby had the "Sin of Manhattan" which he enjoyed. The wines by the glass were ok. I started with a sparkling and followed with the unoaked Chardonnay which were both ok. This is what we ate: * Crab beignets - tasty crab flavored doughy like texture but it was over fried not golden brown. See my pic. *Rutabaga Pierogi - delicious and well constructed. A bit over fried. *Pan Roasted Atlantic Cod with ravioli. Miso broth flavorful but not mixed well. There were clumps of miso in the bottom of the bowl. The cod was cooked well with a crispy skin. *Smoked duck - nice crisp on the skin, good quantity, and a bit over done. The duck would have been better enjoyed if served sliced in smaller lean pieces. read more

This place has a lot of potential. I've only been once during the opening week, so to be fair I should probably give them another shot. I had really high hopes for this place since there's not many "wineries" close by to the city. Upon stepping into the building, we noticed how beautiful the overall look and decor was but what was surprising was the somewhat small wine bar. It can get really packed if there's 5 people being served.. it probably can't tolerate much more. And for such a large building and to be one of the only wineries in DC, it definitely falls short in this area. When I think of the wineries out in VA, I see people being able to sit out and enjoy their wine in a leisurely manner. The lack of furniture, chairs, tabletops makes this place feel like you're just at a normal bar drinking wine. It would have been cool if they could have turned that 2nd floor open area into a true lounge where you can take your bottle of wine and enjoy it. I believe this place was designed to pretty much hold events, which is fine... but I'm not sure that I'd call it a winery. The Restaurant: Simply way overpriced. I mean don't get me wrong, the food was pretty good (not amazing) and I don't recall having any complaints but for what we got i left feeling like I could have just gone to a steak house. After my fiancee and I both did tastings, we decided to order 2 appetizers, split an entree, two sides, and order two more drinks... we had to have spent close to $140 if not more that night. Yes, quite a bit of items but for the portion sizes definitely not worth it. I hope they change a few things around because I definitely see this place being a lot better than what it is. All things considered during the COVID-19 pandemic we were able to enjoy wine and appetizers at DW. Not as lively as would have been and a limited menu because of the current situation. The Brussels Sprouts and Truffle Fries were tasty - location and view were awesome. We will have to try again on healthier times. Looks like a nice place for a wedding. read more

We sat inside yesterday at the District Winery and enjoyed the picking of the Summer Restaurant Week Menu. We ordered one of each of the appetizers to split between 5 girls and each got a flight. The Fried Brussels Sprouts were a table favorite, they are perfectly crisp with a sweet flavor. We also all loved the Whipped Ricotta, it made the perfect palette cleanser between wines. There were no complaints behind the other apps we ordered as well (Glazed Peach Salad, Grilled Cheese, Creamy Shrimp Dip, and Crispy Soy Glazed Chicken Bites). We stopped in for a drink after the baseball game and ended up ordering some little bites because the food the kitchen was pumping out looked awesome! This place was packed and we got lucky by getting two seats at the bar. There was a lot of energy and great atmosphere in this little place. As I looked over their cocktail menu, one stood out in particular....the 'Sounds Like an Apology'. This was a cocktail made with thyme, elderflower, sparkling wine and a bitter sugar cube. What a combo and what a great drink. This can go down pretty easy...so be careful...especially when one drink will cost you $12. We also ordered the Fried VA Oysters. These were very different from the ones I am used to with the horseradish foam and asparagus vichyssoise, but very tasty to say the least. If you happen to be celebrating your birthday, they make their own Chocolate Macaroons here and bring them out on a plate with a candle for no charge. You will not find them on the menu. This was a nice little touch to our experience here. We would definitely come back if we happen to be back in the area. read more

Came to eat dinner with my mother who is from out of town. We enjoyed our experience but I was a bit turned off by the host asking us to eat within a hour because he had a reservation coming at 7. Our waiter never came to greet us but we were immediately greeted by a lady who was wonderful and ended up taking our orders. My mother and I both had the Amish chicken and even though I don't eat red meat she enjoyed her meal with the sausage. I asked for the sausage to be substituted by potatoes. I have been wanted to try orange win for a while and I really enjoyed the reisling over the Chardonnay! I ended our night with the caramel apple desert. read more

We stopped here for drinks before our Big Time Valentines Day Prix Fixe dinner across the way at Osteria Moroni. Turns out, we should have stayed here and that's another story/review. District Winery had a wonderful vibe! Damien, the mixologist, kept us entertained with his artistry. It was culminated with a carrot juice based cocktail that was amazing. Granted, the only food we had from DW were the olives we swiped when nobody was looking. However, we saw lots of plates loaded with great looking food heading out to the dining room, empty plates coming back, and happy, satiated diners on their way out. We will be going back and I'm looking forward to updating this reveiw to include my first-hand experiences with their food and another of Damien's drink creations. read more

We went during opening week so the earliest reservation we can get was 10 pm for a party of six. We grabbed some drinks and food from the bar menu as we wait. I've been here a handful of times and have never been disappointed. The tasting bar is a fun experience- it's open earlier than the restaurant, so you can stop by during the day. There are three types of tasting available- one is a winemaker's choice, one is seasonal, and you also have the option to customize your own with four or five pours. There are bottles of each wine available behind the tasting bar so you can take home your favorites. We really enjoyed our tasting experience with Eric- he was knowledgeable and very friendly, and had a lot of fun tidbits about the wines (for examples, the drawings on the wine labels are each of a device or invention that revolutionized the industry it was in!). The wines are on the pricey side (I think the range is around $21-35) but exceptional and really unique blends, so they're well worth the price. A great place to spend an afternoon! read more

Writing this review for their events. Beautiful building and location right on the water & the catered appetizers were fantastic. Their spread was very good (cheese, crudités and onion dip, candied nuts) - but the highlight was the KIMCHI CUPCAKES! I hope they put these on their bar menu soon.
