I reached out to several contractors to bid on my kitchen job in Park Slope. Rob and Tom were by far the most competitively priced, honest and professional of the bunch. They are a small Mom & Pop shop, but they proved to be extremely efficient, and I can tell they truly care for their customers needs. They were always responsive when I had questions, and were flexible when we wanted to add additional things to the project (out of the scope of what we initially planned). My wife and I are so happy with the way out renovation came out and cant thank DPR enough for the great work! It's hard to find good contractors these days, but I can confidently say that we made the right decision in going with DPR. Honest guys, great work, awesome customer service... Buyer beware. We hired Thomas to do a remodel of our apartment in 2021. Initially Thomas talks a good game and comes off as responsible and cares about the work he does. Once DPR gets in the field all of a sudden their true colors show, slow to make progress and finding any and all opportunities to charge you for a change order. Work quality is average as best, Thomas and his team are slow, unresponsive, and don't stick up for their clients best interest. Run far away from this guy and his company. read more

We procured DPR for the renovation of our home in NYC (Brooklyn - Ditmas Park area - Victorian home). It was a partial house gut renovation and DPR was contracted to do the following projects - ALL electrical and plumbing was NOT in their scope as we contracted those trades as part of the larger reno. So this review is based on framing, tiling, trim and doors. - Master bathroom and walk in closet - 2nd floor - Add new closets in one of the kid's room - 2nd floor - Add 6 new doorways and doors - 2nd floor - Harwood flooring throughout the 2nd and 3rd floor - Guest bathroom - 2nd floor - Rebuild 5 stairs at the first floor landing - New entry stairs down to the basement We moved in September 2019 and renovation completed in Jan 2020. This is difficult review to write as we try our best to not adversely impact someone's livelihood and we have thought about this for more than a year. Since moving into our home, a host of issues have surfaced as a result of DPR's failure to do an honest job. - We had a leak from the master bathroom onto our first floor. Upon inspection, it was discovered that the in the Wedi shower pan where the drain is fixed, debris was left in it such that it wasn't a clean tight fit. Causing water to leak through it and onto the floors. DPR also failed to do final waterproofing inside the shower space which then also caused another leak. - There was another leak from the guest bathroom into the kitchen below. Due to the lack of grouting along the perimeter of the bathroom where the wall tiles meets the floor - we slipped a paper under to see how far it went! WOW! Also the same issues around the edge of the tub where the tub meets wall - Again final insufficient waterproofing - First floor landing reconstruction was supposed to be a custom carpentry job, they refused to honor the words that were explicitly in the with us contract to provide custom parts. We had to argue with him over several weeks to get a credit so we could procure the correct parts FOR HIM! (they charged us 5K+ for the parts!) They also did an incredibly sloppy job aligning the spindles on either side and spacing - things that we now have to live with or later fork out more money to redo. - He built the stairway to the basement but refused to put up walls to make it safe! They only agreed to do it after several arguments because we told them we'd let the city decide if it was up to code when they came for the walk through! Sure enough walls went up promptly. - DPR also created 6 new doorways and we paid for custom doors. A year later the doors don't close well, another carpenter came and adjusted it and said its mostly a framing issue. DPR also brought in a retired electrician friend to install them who ended up CUTTING THE CUSTOM doors! And now we see gaps all over the place when the doors are closed and light leaks out. SOLID STAINED EXPENSIVE CUSTOM DOORS! Don't be fooled when Tom comes in to do the initial quote and comes off as very capable because that's where it ends as we've come to understand - their lack of experience, lack of right quality sub-contractor contacts which delays the job for weeks and weeks and MONTHS! They really depend on making a lot of money off the smallest change orders in the most desperate of times! They never show up to do the job unless you force them to after weeks and week of asking, don't pick up the phone, offensive and aggressive attitude because they have a another job and don't want you on their back despite taking the client's money. The subcontractors they hire, especially the tiling company is incredibly shady and wants to try to do the absolute minimum. DPR are a small shop contractor who really truly do a great job of marketing themselves - PLEASE BEWARE! I hope this helps someone. BUYER BEWARE! read more

I have used DPR for everything from drywall projects to countertop installations. Construction is notorious for it's aches and pains, but every time we work together things have gone smoothly. Most recently, they installed 7 slabs of butcher block in my retail shop. The wood was treated and cut to perfection and fit like a glove. We were able to install in one afternoon with no problems. Rob and Tom are always accommodating and diligent and take personal pride in their work. I highly recommend. read more

Tom at Ditmas Park Renovations has done a number of jobs for my Victorian house: both large and small and even very small. He has done fast emergency work when my kitchen ceiling collapsed due to an ice dam and has done planned work. Tom personally does the work or personally oversees the work by his workers. His prices are fair, even more than fair and he'll always make sure the punchlist is completed and will come back to address any issue. He is that unicorn : an honest contractor. I tried several times to post my review on the BBB website to no avail, so I decided to go the Yelp route! My kitchen and bathroom renovation has improved the appearance of my apartment overall, however, the workmanship is somewhat sloppily done and no attention was paid to detail. The kitchen and bathroom were completely gutted from ceiling to floor, however, some of the wall and floor tiles are not evenly leveled, part of the tile used for the bathroom trim is not straight, the edge of the bathroom door is cut improperly, including having a lot of space between the bottom of the door and the floor, the bathroom sink was chipped when the new outlet was placed next to it, the ceiling paint has now begun to crack and I was told by the contractor that no work was done in that area, but clearly his workers scraped and painted that part of the ceiling because he and I had not only discussed this in person, but the new color is white and my original color was off white, as shown by the color of the ceiling next to my bathroom, the wood molding along the kitchen floor is not flush against the wall and the pieces of wood have spacing between the bottom piece and trim, one of the cabinet doors was put on incorrectly and the contractor had to reimburse me for it because of the damage from holes caused by removal and replacement of the door and cabinet handle, there is spacing between the cabinet doors, there is extra putty along one of the kitchen outlets and broken tiles were used in my backsplash. My countertop had to be replaced because a standard one was provided, when I clearly stated in my email that I wanted a bar top so that I can place bar stools there. Also there were a couple of items purchased, like the bathroom ceiling fixture and bathroom door, before I was given a price for approval and one of the items that I gave approval for wasn't ordered until 2 months later. In addition, one of the workers broke the dome to one of the ceiling lights and I'd been waiting almost 3 months for it to be replaced. (The dome that was eventually replaced was for a light fixture that didn't need replacement.) There were days when the workers only came and worked for 3 hours, trash was left in the apartment for days until I had to send an email to have it removed and there definitely has to be some improvement in cleanup. I realize that I agreed to and paid for the work to be done and have accepted that the work was done to my satisfaction, but I thought it was only fair to mention the entire experience because little details still matter to some. I ended up hiring another contractor to correct the mistakes and he did a wonderful job! read more
