Karma has a funny way of working things out. Dittmar's HAD such a great reputation. Then it was sold, and the customer service took a drastic downturn. Then they started selling guns, because I'm sure their sales were going down. And even that couldn't save it. I had a bad experience with a weed wacker, and just chose to not go back. And after reading his responses to customers, I certainly wasn't going back. So he got his wish, ruined a good local business. It's permanently closed. Horrible service. It's like a black hole. It goes in and you never know when it's going to be done. I'll update when I get my mower back. PS...The last time I had work done, the cover fell off the filter during the first mow because it was the wrong size filter. Rather than bring it back, I used a razor blade to trim down the filter to fit. read more

Go elsewhere! Poor customer service, served with an attitude! Attempted to leave my Stihl backpack blower for service, but a 3-1/2 week wait and the owner's bad attitude had me leaving with what I came In with. This, after paying cash for a chainsaw days earlier. His attitude is better suited for....I'm not sure where, but its not for dealing with the public. I will drive 100 miles out of my way to NOT do business with them. read more

Called 5 weeks ago to repair 2 tires (zero turn and tiller). After 2 weeks, I called and texted about the status. I was advised there was a family emergency. I understand LIFE. I called and texted 3 weeks later indicating I could just pick them up whether they were repaired or not. Mike Daubenmire advised me over the phone to come in today to pick them up and they would be repaired and ready. I took time off work which is a distance to pick them up. I could see him inside the building in Lancaster along with a cryptic sign with no hours.....I knocked on the door and he yelled "read the sign" then bolted out a back door? I walked around the back and saw him and asked about my tires. He said "come back when we're open!". I reminded him he told me to come TODAY to pick them up....of which I have a witness who heard the entire conversation on the phone. He denied saying he told me that...? I said "you're here NOW, so just give me my tires back!" To which he stated "No!" Refusing to return MY property. read more

I was happy someone could pick up my mower with a 60 inch deck. Our Toro Wheelhorse 520H stopped running while mowing the grass in September 2017. I saw that there was a massive oil leak and called Dittmars to repair it. After a few months, I was told that there was a wiring problem that caused the starter to remain engaged. In January I got the mower back with repair fees for electrical wiring work. The oil leak was not addressed, my mower was still leaking oil and did so with only starting and driving the mower from Dittmars trailer to the garage. I used main oil seal leak additive to start the 2018 mowing season. The leaking oil stopped, but I wanted what was supposed to be a valve cover gasket repaired this Spring, a tune up, the blades sharpened and new mud tires. I got the new tires and maybe a blade sharpening, but I was told my engine was shot and it would be more expensive to repair it than to replace it. The mechanic found an Onan engine from another mower and swap, my 20hp on an for a 16hp Onan engine. There is a huge difference between this engine than the 20HP engine. The mower is sluggish when the 60" deck is engaged, it cannot mow grass that is thick or more than three inches tall. Update: Dittmars Sales and Service picked up the mower last week and diagnosed the issues with it. The issues were little more than someone not double checking or rushing their work. The issues with the mower appear to have been resolved and the mower runs and mows fine after it was returned today. I was not charged for the labor involved only the pick up and delivery. This is an old-line lawnmower shop: sales and service. I haven't bought anything but parts from them, for I like to repair my own stuff. But they've been exceptionally helpful with both parts and advice, which speaks to the character of the firm. For my part, I'd trust them for large purchases as well. read more
