I vowed to visit the shop next time I was in the area, and last weekend, I made good on that promise. First of all, the shop itself is adorable. I feel like I'm in a friend's house, looking through her closet. All of the merchandise is so thoughtfully created and intricate. It's all great and it's all special. Be not afraid of the higher priced handmade pieces. There are affordable panties and bralettes etc. priced for any lady to treat herself. Besides lingerie in lots of sizes, they also have bathing suits and accessories. The customer service I received here by the owner and her team was exceptional. So welcoming and warm. They shared with me photos of a wedding dress Suzie created. It was absolutely lovely. Much nicer than my mass-produced wedding dress. PTT is a French brand which manages to be dainty but not frilly, feminine but not girlish, sexy but never trashy. While it's relatively inexpensive in its native France, currency exchange being what it is, a PTT bra will currently run you $50-$60. Not exorbitant, I know, but a lot for me. Even so, I make the trek to this rather remote block in Red Hook - from Greenpoint , less - every few months. The owners Susie and Sonia and the adorable French salesgirl, Melanie, are all warm and charming and genuinely excited about lingerie. While there's a lingerie boutique's lack of reserve, there is no snobbery, no disinterested manhandling a la Town Shop or rather humiliating appraisal as at Orchard Street Corsets. It feels friendly rather than exclusive, completely comfortable and very relaxing. This summer, I got a whole new bathing suit wardrobe - picked up nearly every Hunza G style they had in stock, a couple vitamina bikinis, and that amazing Haight red one piece. I love the selection and they made shopping convenient throughout the last few months. Free shipping and then I utilized the in-store pick ups from the coffee shop next door. Now that the shop reopened, I purchased even more bathing suits (whoops!) and Carly could not have been more patient with me as I tried on approximately 100 different suits (thank you!). A wide range of styles and price points but I also trust Cindy to pick really high quality, well-made pieces which makes it easier to justify paying more for the quality. The customer service I have received here is unparalleled and I feel so grateful to have Azaleas as a neighbor in the East Village.
