Dancing is an intended fitness hobby for me, and I am happy I found DivaDance. Members and non-members are separate where members pay a monthly membership fee. They have a schedule updated monthly, with separate sign-up options for both member and non-members. As a non member, I paid for the drop-in class, which was $25. The class runs for an hour with around 10+ students, where an instructor first starts up with a quick warm-up and then jumps into teaching you a choreo to the song. The choreo is broken into several routines, so you learn them slowly in detail, and then piece them all together with the song incrementally. Dancing is as challenging for your brain as it is for your body, as you need to really exercise your memory and mind body coordination! The whole class went by super fast. Everyone who went seemed to be regulars and quite experienced, but you'd be too busy trying to master the dance to care. At the end, we are placed into two groups, where we are given a chance to perform and record ourselves. DivaDance emphasizes community as they have a whole FB group where you can see past dance classes and meet new members as well! It can be challenging to find adult dance classes that are not repetitive like Zumba or intimidating and require extensive classical training. I've been to DivaDance in the past (~3 years ago) when I previously lived in NYC, and I have to say, since then, they have really stepped up their game. The caliber of the instructors, variety of styles, and mix of music is amazing! Concept: This is choreography based, so each class you learn a routine set to a specific song. The monthly schedule is released ahead of time, so you know all the days/times and songs. You can even put in requests for songs that you would love to dance to. The class starts with community time where there is a prompt or question that serves as an ice breaker to get to know other people. Afterwards, you do a warm-up and then start to learn the routine. The instructors each have their own style but generally they break down the routine and will run it with music in between, so you can get into the moves. Every class has its own choreography and song, so it's constantly challenging and fun. They also have special heels and lyrical classes in addition to the more hip hop, street jazz, and pop star styles. At the end of the class, they split into two groups, which gives you a chance to watch and cheer each other on. You can also have someone video you, so you can post to social media or just keep for yourself to see your own progress. They will also video everyone doing the routine at the end, which gets sent to a private Facebook group. Don't worry if you don't have any dance experience at all because it's meant to be fun and judgement free. Everybody is either watching the instructor or themselves in the mirror. Cost: They offer lots of options including single pass, 10 class pass, and multiple membership options. I chose the Gold membership option, which gives you unlimited classes (both virtual and in person) but requires a 6 month commitment for $99/month. Automated payment is per month and not all upfront. Since most dance classes in the city can range from $20-30 per class, then if you attend 5 per month, then you've already gotten a good deal. The membership also allows for unique additional opportunities. For example, we actually got our photos taken by a professional photographer for their social media campaign, and they have members only events - not to mention some cute swag! SO MUCH FUN! I like to try something different every year for my birthday and I am SO glad that I decided to party with DivaDance! My ladies and I actually went to the one on 520 8th Ave because that's where they host the premium parties. It was so much fun and very easy to keep up with the choreography (we aren't dancers, to say the least). The champagne and cupcakes were a plus and our host and instructor Stephanie & Samantha were so amazing and made sure to take lots of pics and videos for memories. I've taken classes at different studios over the years but I keep coming back here because it's where I feel the most comfortable and have the most fun. I recommend the evening classes because those dim lights create the perfect atmosphere for dancing. As someone with zero experience who tends to get camera shy, it makes me worry less about trying to perfect the moves and focus more on having fun (it's all about the vibes!). This time around I took a class with their new instructor Elina and had so much fun. First you get a few minutes to get acquainted with a partner, then you spend some time doing stretches, and deep dive right into the choreography. The pace of the class was quicker than what I'm used to because she tries to get us up to speed on the choreo quickly so that we have time to practice. The choreography was a mash of sexy, groovy, hip hop, and club moves thrown together. Towards the end we broke up into groups, each performing twice (one with the instructor, once without). They just hadddd to be fake right? Welp WRONG! This place is every bit as amazing as the reviews said. In 45 minutes (#teamlate oops) Jami taught us some serious moves for Kelly Rowland's "Motivation." She promised we were gonna get down and dirrrty and she wasn't playing. I have taken both the Dance and Sweat and the Beyonce Series classes, and I prefer the Beyonce Series. All the classes are super fun. Because you are learning dances, I would say that that the workout itself is pretty easy (and the dance isn't very technical), but it is very fun. The NoHo location can also be a bit cramped if there are a lot of students. But overall, I would recommend it if you are looking for something fun to do. I've been going to diva dance for four months now. I love it. The classes are good for all levels (I'm a complete beginner and even if not easy for me I still manage to follow whilst the advanced dancers put on some seriously sexy and graceful moves !). Classes allow to learn about two minutes of choreography along a specific song - usually hip hop hits, Beyoncé and Britney. There is also a stiletto class where you dance in high heels and a removable class where, well, you remove a layer ! Songs change every day so it's a new choreo for every new class. The instructors are fun, patient, funny and welcoming and amazing dancers to watch and learn from. The best thing about diva dance is that you feel welcome regardless of your level of fitness, dance proficiency, size or appearance. It's truly an inclusive environment. I'm in my thirties and usually surrounded by younger women in their twenties but even as an older dancer this is fun and you should definitely try it ! read more

DivaDance is not your ordinary studio, it's a great community with people from around the world and US who want to dance. Each class is stress free and you can learn choreography within an hour. Each sequence we learn is always new and fun. Plus, the instructors challenge you but in a good way. After each class, the host will record a video to show you the routine you did which is pretty cool. One unique thing about DivaDance is there is a Performance Squad made up of 20 people who focus on learning choreography by an experienced dancer/choeographer Ashley and then we perform it at venues in the city. The staff at the studio are warm, friendly, and bring so much positive energy when you interact with them. Jami and Sarah were the first two people I've met years ago and they always get back to my questions right away if I need help.
