A unique type of workout where you are dancing the entire time. I had a blast during this workout and boy did I SWEAT!! I loved being able to move to the rhythm without a care in the world! Loved the DJ type music. The changing light colors and the dim lighting. The last half of the workout incorporated light hand weights. Clean facility with lockers available. read more

Endorphin highs are totally a real thing, evidenced by the sweaty, smiling, attendees exiting the studio after each class. I'd equate this class to 305 Fitness, but with more choreography. Before class, my friend expressed her nervousness about having two left feet to the instructor who responded breezily by quipping "we're just here to jump around and have a good time. Don't worry about it!" and my friend instantly felt better. That set the tone for a very carefree hour of dancing to an amazing, heart thumping playlist. Everyone in class very much seemed to be there to have a good time and get their sweat on. The instructor moved really quickly through the movements but repeated them enough times that I got them down, eventually. I felt my confidence grow by the minute and didn't care at all about how good my dance moves looked or that I was an utter sweaty mess by the end of it. The choreography part of class is the most daunting one because you have to memorize a series of complicated movements and try to piece them all together. I was stepping on my feet through this part but after going through the series what had to be like 20 times it was extremely satisfying to get it right in the end. Forward Space manages to be really empowering without being corny. It would make a great addition to anyone's workout routine. read more

I hate dancing and it always makes me nervous but this class was SO fun with great energy. It was nonstop moving and tons of sweating. Instructors were awesome... we had Kim and Melissa and I loved them so much!!!! I went with a group of ~10ish girls for one of my friends birthday and I thought it was a great bday activity. Definitely be prepared to sweat. It's a small space and if I wasn't in the front row, I probably wouldn't have enjoyed it as much in the back. There is the front stage for the instructors and then there are mirrors on all walls of the room. Losing a star because there were no showers which I thought was pretty crazy since it's such a sweaty class! Would never be able to take it before work unless you're going home first to shower. But they had great products in the little getting ready area. There were two changing rooms and two bathrooms. And there are lockers with locks. All in all, will def take this class again! read more

When in comes to workouts in NYC, I have done the legwork (pun intended). I can say with confidence, that nothing comes even close to the experience I have had at FORWARD_Space. I have been taking dance classes with two of the instructors for years now, and they truly are something else. Located in the heart of Nolita, the space itself if carefully curated, down to the record covered walls in the bathrooms, black roses & dim candles, and branded matchbooks which I steal every time I am there! The studio is not your typical workout studio. There are mirrors on every wall making the space feel huge, and colorful lights that give the illusion you are at the club. #beatshighlightslow I have taken all of the classes they offer, and they are ALL amazing. FORWARD: This class is their signature dance class and I swear I burned around 800+ calories in the 50 minutes I was there. It is an easy-to-follow dance class with a little choreography that ANYONE can learn! FORWARD +: This is my favorite dance party class. Another insane sweat session, but the choreography has more hip hop vibes, still good for all levels! FORWARD FIRE: This class is also my favorite since its a non-stop, full body workout with weights. I love that the whole class is taught to the beat of the music, and I always leave feeling stronger and leaner than ever. FORWARD FORMS: If you are into contemporary/ballet, take this class. My friends and I call this class our therapy session every week, as you leave in a completely different mindset than when you walked in. Such a spiritual experience in a judgement free zone, with a community of amazing humans. INSTRUCTORS: I have only ever taken Rachel and Kristin's class, and the two of them are the most amazing people, dancers and teachers I have ever met. I highly recommend! I also have met a couple of the other instructors there and have heard they are fantastic :) All in all- this studio is amazing and I would 10/10 recommend to anyone who loves to sweat, dance, and listen to dope beats! read more

AMAZING! For the first time ever I took a dance class and I felt like I kind of got it! The atmosphere, instructor and music are incredible. They have music for everyone weather you like hip hop, dance or even throwbacks. My only complaint however is the floor gets very slippery. I have no idea why they dont do a quick sweep half way through like other studios i've been to. Hoping they open a second location more uptown! read more

Wow, what an amazing start to my day! I just tried Forward Space for the first time, and I will definitely be back. I love to dance and have taken many dance workout classes around Manhattan, but I have to say this is my favorite so far. Beyond the amazing workout Jessica provided (great teacher!), the vibe of the space won my heart. I am so happy I found this place. They have a deal online buy two classes for the price of one. I went to my two classes in one week. Neither class was packed and both instructors were amazing. Everyone who works there is so warm and welcoming. They made me instantly feel like family. The space is also great. A fresher station, changing area, free lockers, bathroom. The dance class is also great- awesome lighting and music. I left the place with a great workout and a sense that I can accomplish everything and do it all while being good to everyone. I love to dance but hate to work out. So I need a sweat session that feels more like a dance class than a "dance inspired fitness class", if you get my drift. I've tried a few and was never quite inspired to commit. Then FORWARD_Space came to town. I took my first class with Keith and that was it. I was hooked! This is a non-stop dance PARTY. You will move, you will sweat, you will FIND YOUR LIFE in that dark room. I love that there's a little choreography that's repeated all week so you can practice it over and over again. Besides being good for your body, learning the choreo is good for the brain, especially as we, ahem, age gracefully. The vibe is inclusive and super uplifting. By the end of that first class I knew I'd found a dance home. Fantastic workout and studio! I took many co-workers to the class and we had so much fun keeping up with the instructor and pouring sweat. The team there was incredibly lovely and patient with a group of not so nimble people. We were all pretty nervous about the classes at first since we do not dance regularly. But the teachers break down the moves very well so you gain confidence the whole way through. You will be smiling and laughing the whole time, the time flies! read more

I'm obsessed with forward space. It's such a rewarding work out and the most uplifting place to let loose. You don't need to have EVER danced before in your life to have the best time here. I have been all over the city to various dance/workout classes and hands down Forward is the best. You are moving, dancing and sweating and having a great time. Too many classes think to get the 'cardi' part that it means fast/speed everything up. You wind up feeling ridiculous jumping around like a crazy person. This is never the case at Forward. The tempo is fast but not too fast and the moves are all targeted to help open up your limbs and to have you moving correct. The music is always amazing and you feel like you just left the coolest (and I hate to use that word, but it really applies here) dance/workout party in New York. Not some cheesy workout session (which 305 Fitness can feel like sometimes). PS. Keith is hands down the best! Never seen someone move their bum bum so fast! read more

It doesn't matter if you grew up in a dance studio or have never done a step-touch. The teachers instantly create a judgment-free zone and make everything accessible. What a fun workout! It actually doesn't feel like you're exercising, just having a great time dancing away- until the next day when you're sore (in a good way)! The staff and trainers are so friendly and supportive, the facilities are clean, and there are great post-workout products available to help you freshen up. We took a Forward Fire class with Joyce who was absolutely amazing! She made sure to walk around the room and correct our form, ensuring a safe and effective workout for all! What a fun class! High energy, low pressure, great music, great vibe! I am not great at choreography, but Keith made the moves simple and easy to understand, while still making me feel like Beyonce. The space itself isn't necessarily big, but they cover the essentials: 2 bathrooms, 2 changing rooms, a 'refresh station' (no showers) with wipes & body products and lots of lockers. The dance studio itself is rigged to look and feel like a club setting, which helps get the workout going. I opted for the intro/"forward" class, which is the beginner level (there are more intense options). The class itself is a fun way to get your cardio in & build up a sweat. If you're active/looking to sculpt or feel the burn of a challenging workout, definitely pick a different level, which I believe is called 'fire'. read more

I cannot put into words the experience that I have each time I walk into Forward Space. The people are truly magical, the space is sacred, and the music is always, always amazing. Each of the instructors has a certain energy that can't even be described by words. Transformative doesn't do it justice. Amidst all of the disconnection and superficial fitness and dance in this city, this is not THAT. You have to experience it to feel the next level elevation I am attempting to describe. I'm a beyond novice dancer and was reluctant to try something new. I am SO glad I got over myself (not easy) and tried something new and out of my comfort zone.
