This review is long overdue but let me just say that Kari was amazing! My (now wife) and I wanted our first dance to be just right. She is a much better dancer than I; all I could do is the Cha-Cha Slide because they tell you how to dance! So clearly I was the one in need of assistance before the big day. One of the best investments we made in preparation for our wedding! My husband wanted to learn a dance routine and "put on a show" for all our guests, so he did all the work to find this place and they were so great! Neither my husband or I are dancers, yet they were able to teach us and were flexible to accommodate our schedule despite the hectic timeframe as we squeezed in 3 two-hour classes in the 10 days leading up to our wedding! :) We did plenty of tripping and stepping on each other's toes and the practice dress, but in the end I think we did pretty ok! Our family and friends were so surprised that we could dance (like I said, we aren't exactly known for having that talent), which goes to show wonderful the instructors at Dance Reverie are! The tempo of the song we chose didn't really go with the dance style we were comfortable with (slow waltz), but our instructor was able to modify it for us and make it work. And my husband wanted to do a lift, despite my fear of falling out of my big poufy dress, hahaha, so they helped us to learn all the right flourishes including a lift that got everyone's attention. My husband and I were trying really hard to learn the Rhumba on our own for our first dance at our wedding and we were able to get the basic steps down but obviously we knew we needed a real professionals touch to correct us and show us a trick or two! Overall experience: My now-wife and I found Dance Reverie simply to learn a dance routine for our wedding. We had Kari as our private instructor, who went above and beyond what we expected from our dance lessons. She not only taught us a wonderful choreography that amazed our wedding guests and ourselves, but she also taught us a few bread-and-butter dances so that we could dance all the different songs in our wedding. Kari was very patient and flexible with our busy work schedule. She was also very receptive on how quick we were learning the steps, and pushed us to learn more advanced maneuvers to add more enjoyment in our dance! Since we enjoyed the private lessons so much, we decided to add on some group lessons, which were a blast. We were invited to join a Friday social, during which members of all ages and experience levels came to dance a variety of styles and showcase a few routines that we have been practicing. It was great to just practice what steps we already knew, as well as learn from other more seasoned dancers. During the social, I decided to bring my parents and siblings over for my mom's bday - everyone was very welcoming to them, and my whole family had such a great time! We initially came to mark off a check box in our wedding checklist, but what we got out of it was a new hobby. We we definitely be returning once our schedule frees up again! I don't know how to dance...or rather, I didn't. My wife and I started taking classes to prepare for our wedding day, and Kari was just the most amazing teacher. She made both of us feel very comfortable learning how to dance, taught up basic moves and went through the process, teaching us that it's not about memorizing the choreography for a dance, but being able to do different types of moves. My husband and I found Dance Reverie on Yelp. The 5 star average rating does not lie! We had an amazing experience with Kari and ended up with a first dance that turned out far better than we could have ever imagined. Upon entering our contact information online we received a text from Kyle and scheduled our first lesson. The first lesson is free and is one hour long (like the rest of them). During our first lesson we learned some basic steps and decided on a song. My husband and I walked in with three song ideas, one that he really liked, one that I really liked, and one that we mutually agreed on (but weren't that crazy about). Based on our song selections Kari made some other recommendations as well and we ended up going with a song she recommended, which we ended up both loving! Kari also mentioned that it isn't necessary to decide on your first song during the first few lessons, as long as you aren't changing up the style of dancing. We took a total of 6 (paid) lessons (plus the initial free one), one a week. The hours were so convenient for us, with availability until 10 pm. Once we learned all the steps and practiced the full dance a few times Kari put different skirt styles on me so we can experience the moves in what would resemble the style and form of a wedding dress. Kari also recorded us on our phones during the last two lessons so we were able to rewatch the dance at home and continue to familiarize ourselves with the steps in between lessons. We opted for the 6 lessons at first and got the dance down pretty quickly but upgraded to the 10 lessons because we could not get enough of the lessons. Irene was incredible in working with the song we really wanted to dance to, understanding and analyzing our dancing ability as a couple and individually, and was brilliant in helping us nail down the essential basics, before slowly introducing us to more and more complex moves. We wanted to wow our guests with a swing dance, something both me and my husband wanted to learn for a long time. He was more hesitant to lead and I couldn't stop leading, and occasionally yelling. But Dance Reverie really made us love to dance, taught us structure and helped us create a dance that was unique, fun, and made our guests ooh and aah for hours. We found Dance Reverie when we decided to choreograph a dance for our wedding. I'm not a good dancer. It's impossible for me to pick up a beat, I can be pretty stiff, and I have barely any rhythm. My fiance's taken dance before but nothing that we could use at the wedding; nevertheless, we needed a lot of help. I don't know how she did it but Kari really helped turn that around. Let me start by saying that she is an incredible instructor and that there aren't enough kind words to describe the exceptional lessons we received. From group lessons to private, we always felt like they were working their hardest to make sure we were getting the most out of our lesson and progressing. Kyle would also assist in our lessons and took every opportunity to help us improve our dance. I really dislike dancing but I didn't mind it at all. Our first dance is a combination of Tango/Swing and I feel like we know enough of both that we can use either of them for songs other than the first dance. We're interested in coming back after the wedding is over to try some of the other group classes and we highly recommend them to anyone interested in learning to dance. read more

They are very good at choreographing a dance for whatever crazy song you throw at them. I threw a EDM song at them LOL. Flexible with times, and just overall very helpful with all types of recommendations from song choice, what happens if things go wrong, etc lol. In terms of price, it aint cheap, but it's whatever you think is "worth it". Learning to dance is (hopefully) something you can use forever. We took a few private wedding dance lessons with Kari and our experience was beyond expectations. We did Swing and was able to dance a whole song after 4 lessons without any previous swing knowledge, (though I think we're pretty fast learners haha), we just thought swing looks very interesting. There was so sales talk at all, just Kari's great teaching! She gave me a lot of advices with regards to how to dance with my long dress. We took her advice to perform in front of a crowd after a group lesson as the experience is quite different when you just practice yourselves. It was SO SO HELPFUL! Pretty soon after I got engaged, my dad and I decided it would be fun to do dance classes together to prepare for a surprise father-daughter dance! We loved the idea of breaking out into a dance that wasn't just awkward swaying and shocking our friends and family. A few months before the wedding we found a Groupon for dance reverie and started working with Kari to learn some swing dance moves. We absolutely loved working with Kari and we found that she was friendly, accommodating and great at showing and explaining all of the steps. After having such a great experience at Dance Reverie in FH, I found another Groupon for their Mineola location and took my fiancé there for a lesson. We only had time for one lesson before the wedding, but Kyle worked with us for an hour and taught us 3 or 4 key moves that helped us to make our first dance way more interesting (and less embarrassing!) We had so much fun at the class and our first dance went off without a hitch. I definitely would recommend Dance Reverie, and both Kari and Kyle as instructors. The Mineola location is much bigger and newer but both are wonderful. After we went to dance in FH, we loved going to Eddie's down the street for ice cream- a great post dance treat, that made us doubly excited to head to class. read more

I was actually against planning a first dance for our wedding, but I am glad my wife persuaded me to stop by for a free consultation. Kari was our instructor and she was amazing to work with. My wife and I elected to pay per class rather than the bundle because we would put in the extra "practice" at home after each lesson. All together, we ended up taking five classes within a two-month span leading up to the big day. We began learning basic dance steps followed by twists, dips, and eventually lifts. Kari gave clear detailed instructions to follow and she guided us through each move until we were comfortable. She even gave us the opportunity to rehearse the full choreography, which was a good refresher given there was a whole lot to remember. The only thing I have criticize is that the lessons could have progressed at a steadier pace as we felt that we were ready at times to move on with the dance routine. Fast forward to the day of our wedding, my wife and I put on a show for our guests! We received many compliments from our friends and family. We decided to try out their free 1st lesson in prep for our wedding first dance. Kyle and Kari were great. We came in with basically zero organized dancing skills, and within 5 lessons were able to perform a heart wrenching waltz for our guests. Quite honestly, the service and the flexibility of this place is fantastic. Carie is at once kind and competent. She takes things one step at a time and with POSITIVITY. the studio consists of only one open floor with a couple of intrusive beams but it never got in the way of our learning. My wife and I found Dance Reverie via groupon. We needed some lessons for our first dance for our wedding and we found a great deal on groupon and decided to try it! On our first day, we met our instructor, Irene, and she taught us a few basic steps. She estimated that we would need 5 lessons and she was right on the mark. By our fifth lesson, we learned everything we needed to know for our first dance. Irene is absolutely wonderful, a great teacher and very fun to talk to! My wife says the lessons were the best part of wedding planning. She also took a few classes with her dad as well. She loved it so much that we bought another package of 5 and we'll be tangoing after our honeymoon. Of course I had no say. Whatever makes her happy. Happy wife happy life. :) You can really tell that all the dance instructors at DR are very passionate about teaching and dancing. My husband & I recently started taking dance classes with Irene. I grew up dancing to latin music and have taken classes before, but never fully felt comfortable with following or being led.
