Yelp review #1,000…read more Just finished the 2014 MyrtleBeach.com Myrtle Beach Marathon in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina! It was held on Saturday, 02/15/2014 in downtown Myrtle Beach. It was lifetime #68 marathon and state #45 in my quest to run marathons in all 50 states from Hawaii. The chase had humbled me so far and there's only a handful left to go. I remember joining the 50 States marathon club when I had 10 qualifying states in December 2010, now I have 45. Its insane how life goes! It was my first time ever to South Carolina, so I wanted to savor every bit of it. I'm glad that Myrtle Beach Marathon was held on the Saturday of the long President's Day weekend. More time to explore and fly back without having to take more time off of work for vacation. The Myrtle Beach marathon boasts a small race field, up to 1,000 marathoners and up to 2,500 half marathoners. They also have a marathon relay, as well as a 5K the night before. The race expo was held at the Myrtle Beach Convention Center. Parking at the parking lot was $3.00 all day. Cash only!! The expo itself was free though. The expo was decidedly small, but large enough for packet pick up, shirt pick up, and a few dozen vendors to peddle their race related goods/services to all those coming to the Myrtle Beach marathon & half marathon - to race, spectate, or other. There was race sponsored pasta dinner at The Breakers resort, but at $18, it was not a bargain. This year, 2014, threatened with a winter storm PAX that blew through the area, but definitely lucky that the race didn't cancel, especially when they did in 2012 for snowfall the night before race day. The race start was at Broadway at the Beach, a premiere shopping area in Myrtle Beach. There was rain that morning, not snow flurries, but it was a cool morning, in the upper 40's, which was nice running weather. The finish line was in a parking lot next to a baseball field, adjacent to the Broadway on the Beach. There was plenty of parking at the start, but you just had to get there early, so you don't get locked out of that. The race was 26.2 miles and the course was pretty good. At least half of it ran through residential sections of Myrtle Beach, along with views of a Myrtle Beach airport, and the other half was on Ocean Boulevard, which was like Atlantic City's boardwalk or Waikiki's Kalakaua Avenue, in a small way. Plenty of things to see out there on the course and there was adequate aid stations. One every 2.0 miles. I myself had a good time, since I met up with a few 1st timers at the back of the pack and encouraged them when the miles got challenging. The sun came out around mid day and it was kind of nice having that mix of sun and a cool winter's blast to keep it interesting. I met new friends and hope to see them sometime down the road. It was nice to see them all cross the finish line and myself to knock off a new state for my quest. The finish line was always sweet when you cross it. No matter how fast or slow, crossing that finish line will change your life forever. Certainly changed mine! Out out of the few South Carolina road marathons, Myrtle Beach is a good flat and fast one to do. With a 7 hour time limit, anyone can finish this marathon with a proud, fierce pride. Definitely life changing for sure. At least in Myrtle Beach. Excellent organization, great volunteers, and there are 3 timing check points along the course. The finisher's medal is always a pleasure to see, since it's the shape of flip flops, gold plated, and said Myrtle Beach marathon on it. It is cute for sure. K1 Speed: Inaccurate Height Sign -- We Have the Photos to Prove It…read moreI'm not one to leave negative reviews, but what happened at K1 Speed warrants a warning for other families -- and we have photographic proof. K1 Speed's posted minimum height for Junior racing is 48". My son is exactly 48". We made the trip specifically because he qualifies. What we discovered on arrival is that K1 Speed's own height measurement sign is wrong by 2 inches. We brought a tape measure and documented it on the spot. In our photos, you can clearly see that the line labeled "48"" on their sign actually sits at the 50" mark on a standard tape measure. Their sign has been mounted or printed incorrectly -- meaning children who are a legitimate 48" are being turned away based on a miscalibrated sign. My son sat in the kart. He could reach the pedals. There was no functional or safety reason to exclude him. Yet staff still refused to let him race, citing the sign -- the very sign we had just proven was inaccurate. We showed staff the photos. No resolution. No apology. No willingness to escalate or problem-solve. The staff was very nice, but unfortunately unable to help. K1 Speed, this is not a minor mix-up. Families are planning trips around your stated requirements, and your measurement tool is provably wrong. Fix the sign, and train your staff to handle situations where your own equipment is at fault. Photos attached. The tape measure doesn't lie. #k1speed PS we were able to go to another place that had an accurate 48" measurement and all was all good.

The Track - Myrtle Beach kept our family entertained for two hours!…read more The go karts were very fun and they follow a nice uplifted track! There is also a nice arcade inside. We paid for the rides and you'd need to pay additional for the arcade use. The price for the rides (all included) seemed to be pricey to me but it did entertain us. Overall, a good experience. Two downsides were that the smaller kid rides weren't always staffed and the staff members really didn't really seem to desire to open up the huge shades for us despite it being very hot outside.

We were able to find welcoming parking on someone's property who was offering $10 spaces. There were quite a few places like this closer to the entrance and very nice home owners who were using this opportunity for visitors which seems to be a "win/win". $10 per person to get in the venue. We walked the entire area within less than an hour. We didn't purchase anything, but did see some interesting things. Of course there are blue crabs there (?), not like we expected and not at every booth --- but unfortunately- just a few carnival type vendors/food with some seafood dishes that may or may not have crab options. Had expected it to be more about those delicious BLUE CRABS with ALL the advertising & marketing. It is a small town, so I'll give them that. However, it's literally just like a farmers market with same type of stuff. The festival itself gets incredibly crowded but it really wasn't an issue. There are vendors everywhere selling everything from craft items to gutter systems. Actually, the one item I did buy was from a Tastefully Simple rep who had a booth set up. Oh, and there was a Puppy Kissing booth set up by the local shelter. As for the shrimp, we ended up in a bar/restaurant called Daddio's and got some decent shrimp but nothing special. It wasn't until we walked to the far side of the festival did we see food trailers with all sorts of delicious looking seafood. This festival is definitely worth a visit once a year.

While we were at this business, a grown male employee made a sexually inappropriate comment directly to my grandchildren. The remark was explicit, disturbing, and completely unacceptable in any setting, but especially in a place that presents itself as family‑friendly. My priority was getting the children away from him and making sure they felt safe, but this incident has stayed with them and with me. A business that allows an adult employee to speak to children in a sexual way is not a safe environment, and parents and caregivers deserve to know this before bringing their kids here. I will not be returning, and I urge other families to take this experience seriously when deciding where to spend their time and money. If management chooses to keep people like this on staff or fails to address such behavior immediately and decisively, it tells you everything you need to know about how little they value children's safety.
