Beautiful golf course near the ocean. $90 for locals which is on the more expensive side. Extremely windy but almost always guaranteed good weather on this side of the island. Greens were well kept. There are 2 parking lots. One smaller in front and a larger one if you continue down the driveway. Be sure to drop your clubs towards the center so you don't have to hike up a small hill with them if you park in the lower lot. They provide a cooler with ice and water on both sides of cart. At the end of the round they wipe your clubs down so be prepared with some cash to show your appreciation. The check in process was as expected and the facilities are clean and well maintained. The refreshment cart made regular rounds. read more

This is most beautiful golf course I have ever played. Every second of your game will be filled with amazing views. We got one of the first tee times on a Friday morning to play 9 holes during our visit. We were able to rent clubs and the pro shop was well stocked for any other accessories or souvenir items we might need, We arrived a little early got our gear and cart and were instructed to go warm up at the driving range. The cart included a Bluetooth speaker and range. We hit a couple balls before the marshal came and grabbed us. He gave us a great tour of the course and told us about some of the history before letting us go on the back nine. The course was gorgeous and we didn't feel rushed as we did stop to take some pictures along the way. some of the regulars at the course would stop and help us grab some pictures of the both of us, which was so nice. The marshal would come check in on us and as groups got closer to us would just say that if we wanted to take our time, to just let them pass. It was so great how understanding and flexible they were. They know its is a beautiful course and visitors are enjoying the views and capturing the memories. After our final hole, we got back to the clubhouse and we were greeted with some cold towels. The staff we interacted with was so friendly and made sure we were well taken care of. The golf course was in excellent condition, with wind and some mud due to the recent rain. Upon arrival, the bag attendants were professional and attentive to their duties. The starter, Kurt, was very knowledgeable and helpful. However, the issue arose with the course pro shop staff, Greg and assistant director of golf Chasen Bahouth. After my round, I was informed that I needed to purchase range time, despite having already spent $300 for the round which included the range, chipping and putting green. I explained my intention to hit a few balls to straighten out a few things that needed some attention, but Chasen responded with a condescending "Sorry, you need to buy range time if you want to work on your game." I was shocked and left the area, heading to the pro shop to speak with the GM of golf activities, Chad Dusenberry. When I asked who the individuals were, Greg started yawning, indicating that he didn't know who they were or how to contact them. He directed me to some cards on the counter with names and numbers. His carefree and nonchalant attitude was not in line with the course's heritage. The culture of a club starts at the top. I wondered what my interaction would have been like with the GM. I must remember that they had already taken my money and thought I was a one-time visitor. I had planned to play an additional three times as more family and friends come into town. Great golf course with beautiful views. The practice range is the best I have been to on the island with quality range balls, practice sand traps and putting greens. The golf carts are also the best I have used anywhere with Bluetooth speakers and the ability to connect with your phone or play tons of types of music. Top notch service from the start. I didn't plan on playing but found a break in the schedule so went there. Didn't bring my clubs so had to play with rentals. The rental options were Srixon and Titleist with regular and stiff shafts. The pro shop staff was great. On this day, it was a little windy but still very nice. This is the only high end golf course worth playing on the island. The amazing layout is outdone only by the welcoming spirit and the hospitality by every staff member. Dont waste your time at Princeville and Timbers! They are happy to charge top end prices with little to no hospitality or replay fees. Your best golf experiences are Poipu Bay, Puakea, and Kiahuna. Beautiful course. I had a great day. I was paired with a man and his high school son, and we all had fun. The course was in great condition despite recent (probably two weeks ago) aeration. No two holes are the same and the back nine is truly spectacular with stunning views along the coast. The staff was pleasant and helpful. Played Poipu Bay Golf Course today. Just a heads up that the front nine is in terrible shape including a hole that is closed and the following hole converted from a par 4 to a par 3. Very disappointing for the high price. In addition, I had a couple of complaints that I shared with the manager. His response was also disappointing. He was late to try to resolve the first issue and was definitely not customer-centric on the other. Customer service/satisfaction is not their forte. If you are looking to play premium golf, I would highly recommend the Princeville Makai club and the Ocean Course at Hokuala that are exponentially better than Poipu Bay. Both are in fabulous shape with much better layouts and amazing staff. read more

We played this course twice. The first time was a wonderful experience. Beautiful views and a nice course lay out, conditions were good to very good. The second day that we played it was a disaster. The group of locals in front of us was clearly over served, as they became more intoxicated they chose to taunt our group which were tourists. They would wait in the tee box for us to walk off the green so that they were holding up the entire course. The list three holes to the group in front of them by the 9th hole. Urinating off the edge of the cart path. Yelling and screaming in excessively loud voices. The course marshal avoided our group, as he obviously knew the group. The pro shop also just said "oh yes." Not a great experience and one that would be cautionary thought for tourists seeking to play the course. read more

Fantastic and beautiful course. The course is top notch, highest quality. The lack of 5th star is for the staff. It seemed the staff did not want to be there or were awkwardly not friendly. There is no beverage cart. Had to order coffee and someone drove out to us. Wouldn't it be easier logistically to have a beverage cart? No food is ready till 9am. It wasn't till afterwards someone mentioned the other islands aren't as receptive to tourists as one would think. This is in comparison to Oahu. I mean, we spent $190 for the round and wanted to spend extra on food. The response is they could care less. I received more friendliness at Kuapoa and Wailua. It's a shame. I wanted to like the course. Especially with all of the pro's pictures lining their walls. It's amazing and pretty recent history. read more

Best golf course I have been on! There are a couple of golf courses on Oahu that i love (Ko Olina, Kapolei), but Poipu Bay Golf Course tops them all! Course wonderfully maintained! Terrific playing surface. Fairways immaculate. I don't recall any barren spots. Bunker sand so fluffy, not hardened like clay on many Oahu courses... Greens were a little thick though--could've been faster. Best customer service I have received from any business ever! - Personalized engraved bag tag--they asked for our names when booking the tee times - Delivered food & drink order to us while we were playing, and goods delivered in professional packaging - Encouraged us to byob (you can go to the market and get beer...!) - Ask if we needed a group picture by the PBGC signage - Great servicing attitude! Of course on Kauai, you have your picturesque holes--breaktaking scenery along the coast! Carts have coolers on both sides to carry our beers! The course was in decent shape, but not as wonderful as the $200 price tag on a Tuesday. The course was very quiet yet a 'marshall' kept pushing us and telling us to hurry. We finally had to have a discussion with him and call the clubhouse to tell them that we're on vacation and have spent over $300 per man on the course... We caught the group in front of us several times having to wait. There was never a group behind us for as many holes as we could see. They didn't have stiff shaft rental clubs for myself nor one of the other the singles I was grouped with. They gave us grief for complaining. Clubs were $55 to rent. Service was rude, course wasn't in the greatest of shape and only had a few holes near the ocean. After our 4 1/2 round that ended at 3:30, the clubhouse was closed! Phantasmagoric. The 15th and 16th holes are absolutely breathtaking. Bring a camera. You'll have time to take pics especially if you are following people who take three practice swings before each shot, play from the blues, and spend more time beached than Hasselhoff... The course was difficult. The extremely windy conditions increased my bad shots and cursing. I love a challenge. If you play twilight, there isn't a beer girl on the course so make sure to pick up beers prior to teeing off. Besides boasting a fantastic course, the food is pretty ono too! I was starving and wanted something small to eat before my round. There is a small selection of food. The waiter suggested the tuna salad sandwich (not something I'd gravitate toward). It was $5 so I was game. focaccia. lettuce. sprouts. tomato. cheese. tuna salad. Ask for pickles too. At the end of the slaughter, they welcome you back with refreshing, chilled, citrus scented towels. If you're staying at the Grand Hyatt, they'll drive you back in a golf cart. Spend the money, buy a few extra sleeves of balls, and play a round. You won't regret it. read more

We paid over $700 to play on a Tuesday afternoon for two. I walk up to the desk with my wife whose wearing a literal golf dress The pro shop guy says "she's just dropping you off?" I said no she's playing. He proceeds as if 1 person was playing and then confirms whether my wife is playing again. He then said she wasn't "covered" up enough to play. We read the dress code before we came and for women it said "no halter tops". I said we checked the dress code and this is not a halter top (a racer back). He then said basically buy something to "cover her up" in the pro shop or you won't be able to play. Meanwhile other guys are checking in for their tee time wearing untucked shirts and slouchy gym shorts with a backwards hat. The guys admitted that he would not enforce that dress code policy but said he was going to make a "note" to the manager to make the dress code more clear. There was absolutely no efforts to accommodate and, against my better judgment, we will obliged. We also rented clubs I asked for stiff shafted clubs. On the website it said they were $70 he told me the stiff shafted clubs were $90 bc they were "premium". They were a nice set of 3-4 year old titleist clubs with stiff shafts that needed to be re gripped. To add insult to injury, they completely failed to load my wife's clubs into the cart. Again, indication how foreign it was to them that a woman would play. All in almost $725 for two rounds of golf after 1 pm. I have been playin golf since I could walk at very nice courses most of them private and have never seen treatment like this. The course was beautiful and overall was very well maintained. It had been a day or two since they mowed the fairways which was disappointing, but had this incident never happened I would have gladly paid the $600ish and looked back at it as a great experience. She took the shirt off on the second hole because it was hot and NO ONE said a word. I will say Art at the driving range was one of the nicest most polite course starters I have ever met props to him. Bottom line, there are better kept courses for less money and no bullshit. I also love people picking up the game and love to see it grow. My wife is relatively new to the game and this situation this is exactly why people don't play and feel intimidated on the course. read more

This is the nicest golf course I've played on! I've played the Princeville course a few times (they are nice too - but this one outranks it). Not only do you see lots of water on this course, but the landscaping is kept up so nicely!!! We had a great round and the staff is so genuinely friendly - including the cart girls!!! Twice they offered to take our picture. I also get a kick out of ordering from the golf cart because rather than the boring turkey sandwiches I get on Mainland snack trucks - they offer Spam and Teriyaki musubi (rice w/ spam or chicken teriyaki - hey, its an Asian thing). It hits the spot for me - need those carbs and protein when your swinging the sticks! :) The carts were only two weeks old - and I loved their GPS. I did par a hole too (I'm new to golf so that's exciting to me!) They also have one of the best golf shops I've seen - a nice selection of women's wear too. We both walked out of there with new shirts. At the time they were also marking down selected stuff and offering an additional 25% off. read more

My wife and I were staying at the North Shore and we're going to play the Prince Course at Princeville. However, it kept raining every afternoon. We decided to try the Poipu Bay and found it to be one of the top places we have every played (certainly liked the course better than Pebble Beach). The staff were friendly, the course was in an excellent shape. Holes 15, 16, and 17 are right on the beach and have beautiful views. We had to rent clubs ($50 per) which were excellent 2009 models. Yardage display on the carts. It is a must play while on Kauai. There is a twilight rate. read more

Second time for my Husband playing the course (I am always a rider) son came along this time. Pricey for mid week all around. Albeit the views are beautiful once you reach them. Pro shop staff was and has always been cordial and professional, however, as we approached the practice range we encountered a rude older gentlemen with an attitude when it came to asking a question about our son sharing a set of clubs with my husband. Doesn't hurt to ask!! He laughed at us (yes he laughed) sarcastically and said "seriously?? absolutely not you cant share, go rent another set". No joke. Rude. Also, our coolers on both carts had two warm water bottles no ice. Asked the drink/food cart attendant with an attitude that happened to be parked there if she had any. Told her they informed us as we picked up the carts that they do not do ice anymore (crazy at 85 degrees and $185 PLUS rentals rider and carts!) She said "they are lying, they have ice", then proceeded to fill them up. Wow. We have never had unprofessional attendants like this anywhere in the world. Sadly I don't think we will we be back. read more

Course is beautiful and well groomed; staff less so - unfriendly for military and family. Nellie checked us in at the pro shop and was condescending and short with me, then more with my wife - implied we were lying about our HI residency. Really unpleasant. Resturant opened late, then charged nearly $10 a beer. Staff break area is the snack bar as well - low end. Suprised to learn from her veteran husband later at the starter shack that they both served - hard to understand... a real shame she is the face of organization there. Military and family, perhaps most others, will do far better anywhere else on the island. Overall a beautiful course with tragically poor management. read more

Some of the back drops as you are teeing off are incredible and you just catch yourself staring. No hole was poorly designed. They all had intention. I just got back from here. I thought I might be in for a miserable round, since it was pouring out and I had paid $85 in advance via www.golfnow.com I hit on the range dodging the rain about 5 or 6 times. Finally, I went out. got soaked the first four holes. All of a sudden the rain stopped and I had this great course all to myself. It's a very fair course, fairly open holes where you can hit driver off almost every T. There is lots of sand but every hole is slightly different. You can find trouble if you get sloppy off the T. The spectacular part is on the back 9 with about 4 holes right along the ocean. It's the Pebble Beach of Poipu, or something like that. The greens were among the best I have ever had the pleasure of 3-putting. The real reason I loved this place was every person I came in contact with, from pro shop, to range, to the bar and the starter, was genuinely incredibly nice. I had a great time. My tee-time was not until 2:30 but they let me out early since it was raining. The place drains pretty well too. It is not a super hard course. read more

Well, it is definitely a second tier choice on Kauai, and doesn't come close to living up to its own hype. The course has a very high "rack rate" greens fee. The architecture has nice vistas on three holes on the back nine, but the golf course architecture is completely uninspired. And the pace of play is horrendous. I understand that it is resort golf, but 5+ hour rounds should draw some intervention from the staff. They don't. I'll stick with better architecture, pricing at pace of play at any of these three nearby courses: Kiahuna, Puakea, and Kauai Lagoons. And if I want to splurge on a green fee, it will be for some unique architecture at The Prince Course. The green fee there is in the same league as Poipu Bay. On the plus side, Poipu Bay is well conditioned and has a very friendly staff. The same holds true for all of the competing courses. Basically, a decent golf course, but you can find better on Kauai. read more

For $200+, you'd expect the course to have friendly and accommodating staff and good service, but I was disappointed to find a real lack of attention to detail and the customer experience here. They seem to hang their hat on the fact that this was once a PGA tour venue and the ocean side views, but don't really give much of an effort beyond that. From the moment we checked in, we noticed how unfriendly, almost annoyed, the pro shop staff were. The prices for merchandise in the pro shop are ridiculous, there was no beer cart girl, we paid $4 for a small coffee, and their food service isn't available until 9am (even though we teed off at 7). I wanted to buy a custom bag tag but their machine was broken, which isn't a big deal in itself but just added onto the mediocre experience. I rented clubs, which are $80 for Srixons. All that being said, the course was in decent shape although the greens were crazy slow, and the layout is really fun and challenging. Holes 16 and 17 are really scenic but the rest are about what you'd expect from a golf course in Hawaii. read more
