It's getting to be ridiculous how much furniture we have bought here :) It's a consignment store so everything is used, sometimes gently, sometimes barely, sometimes a lot. All of their items are in impeccable shape though, and since it is all consignment, and given the area, you'll find a lot of unique, gorgeous, vintage items. They have also often have pieces you could categorize as funky, retro, mid-century post modern blah blah blah - just go see the variety for yourself. Honestly, any time we need something for the house, we end up there because who wants crappy pre-fab, over-priced furniture that anyone with an internet connection could get. And since we bought a 100 year old prarie style home, most modern stuff wouldn't look right anyway. This was the best find we have made in Oak Park so far! The best part is their "Secret Sales". Ocasionally we'll walk in and they'll have items that have been around for a while DRASTICALLY reduced. We got super lucky with a few pieces, like a 1920 buffet for $149 that had been $600. We also snagged a 1940s vintage vanity that had seen better days for just $39. With some help from a friend and $30, it was sanded, refinished and fitted with new hinges, and it's GORGEOUS. They often have newer items too, like Mig n Tig warehouse pieces, Pottery Barn items from the current catalog, you name it! Even if you're not in the market for anything, stop by and browse. They also have art, lamps, cutlery, mirrors, vases, serving bowls, and now they do custom fabric work in case you don't like the gold velvet flowery fabric on a must have chair :) Lastly, the employees are just great! Very friendly, knowledgeable about the pieces and willing to work with you on layaway, ocasionally negotiating on pricing, and keeping an eye out for things you are looking for so they can give you a heads up when something comes in. The owners is pretty much always there and is happy to help you find just what you need too. They have guys on-site most days to help you load the car and deliver is just $50, no matter how many pieces. Definitely worth it if you get older wood pieces that are often super heavy and large. read more

I used this company to sell a retro desk I owned. Upon first call it took them a month to respond. I filled out their form online and they were supposed to call me to discuss sell price. I called 4 times in course of two months with no call back. Next thing I know I recieve a check for 130.00!! Not only that they charged me 85.00 to pick up the desk. So I made 45.00 on a desk who's retail price was 4500-6000. I was expecting at least 1000.00! I have talked to Sean their manager and he had admitted they were responsible to call and discuss price before selling and asked me what would settle this matter and I said 1000.00. Now I can't reach him and the owner refuses to call me to discuss this. Do not use this company they are thiefs and are totally irresponsible. I'm not done yet. I now have a lawyer involved. Absolutely love this store, but I find I don't go frequently ever since the owners now have a split focus on furniture and clothing (at Trends). Yet, the prices are really reasonable and everything seems to be in good, used-condition (although there are some new items too). I'm not sure what to rate Divine Consign since it's moved into the new space. I love the layout and parking. Unfortunately, I had a negative experience in the store recently when I asked if it was possible to place an item on hold so that I could run home and measure the space. The sales assistant pretty rudely told me that they don't do holds. I'm sure that they used to do it and many consignment stores do offer this service. Not being able to put something on hold will probably keep me from dropping in to shop unless I'm looking for something specific. It's a shame because I've relied on them to furnish my home since I moved to the area. read more

Be Very Cautious When Consigning! They are earning a reputation for reneging on their agreements. I followed Divine Consign's listing process (providing many pictures) to sell a farm house table and four ladder back chairs. They accepted the consignment and I arranged a pickup for 230-430. At 4 pm they called and said they needed to pick up between 530 and 730. After some back and forth the driver showed and informed me that they could not take the chairs or the table. They told me they no longer take chairs of this type and that the table was too old. When I asked the driver to help me get the table back inside he refused and stated that it would have to be taken apart, despite the fact that it just came out of the house the same way. read more

A few weeks ago I would have given a 4-5 star review of working with Divine Consign, but not as of today and the delayed responses I've gotten in my past 2 interactions with them. If you are local when dealing with them this may be an entirely different story, but as I"m no longer local and my interactions have been via email (always followed up by me calling them as I get zero response from my emails...until today). I placed furniture with them, which wonderfully sold almost immediately! +1. I was given two separate checks to cover the amount due to me. another +1. However, neither check was correctly filled out with an authorizing signature, which my bank sent back to me noting the error. -1. Now, yet again I had to call to get a response, the person I spoke with was empathetic to the error. +1. I did get an email response stating that they were sorry for the mistake on their part and that they'd send me new checks just as soon as I return the checks that I have. -0. My problem with all this....it's their responsibility to make this right for me as well as any other consigner's this has happened to (I can't imagine I'm the only lucky soul this has happened to, not once, but two separate times). BUT, they haven't said a word about sending me a check as soon as possible, etc, only that I have to first return their checks to them. -10! Very frustrating store response, when I don't live around the corner to drop the checks off for them to correct, but instead need to wait another couple weeks in order for their old checks to get to them for them to resend to me! This may be a great place to shop, but as a consigner there's definitely too much run-around. read more

I let several friends know about this place and I regret it only from the standpoint that they do not answer the phone and do not return messages. If it were just one friend complaining, ...but it is 4 friends who live a considerable distance from Oak Park. They are probably doing quite well...and do not care about phone inquiries for whatever reason. They are high priced because the 50/50 ratio is very unfair. Don't trust them. Spent two weeks back and forth on email and scheduling a pick up for multiple items. They finally arrived and refused to pick up a black dining room table and chairs due to some scratches. This is of course, after they had already approved pictures of the table and chairs in advance. Amazing selection of high quality furniture at prices you cannot say no to. The staff are all friendly, and take an interest in what you are looking for and try to help you find it. I was wavering on a piece and they put it on hold for me....then I wanted something else and they just moved the hold tag....then I bought it...most places won't hold anything much less let you play musical chairs with a hold tag for two days! It's weird how no one acknowledges me ever when I go into this store. Not when I enter, not as I walk around the place, not as I leave. It's very odd. There's always someone sitting at the desks in the middle of the store and there's usually at most one or two other people in there, so it's not like they're overwhelmed with something else. It's really normal in a store for someone to say, "Let me know if I can help you" and a huge, huge turnoff when they act like you're invisible. read more

I'm trying really hard to give them the benefit of the doubt. Instead of trying to label this a trust issue, I hope it was just a miscommunication. I consigned an iron bed and was never given clear details as to how to set up an account. A year went by and I never heard anything about this bed. I emailed to inquire and was told to log into the online account. I log into the online account and there were not any details about this sale. After numerous exchanges, they told me the bed had been sold and I was owed $100. I asked several times what the bed was sold for and those details were never provided. This bed was purchased for $2,500 new. I have consigned numerous items with other consignment shops and would never use Divine Consign again. read more

My brother just moved back to the area and needed furniture. He couldn't wait 6-9 months for a sofa or sectional. We saw a CBS news clip featuring Divine Consign in North Riverside. We live in Aurora (an hour from North Riverside) but after looking at Divine's website we decided to make the trip. They offer brands like Mitchell Gold, Restoration Hardware, Baker, Century, Tom Price, Roche Bobois, Walter E Smithe, Ethan Allen, Crate & Barrel...the list goes on and on. The store is not like anything out there. The furniture is so unique. The place is fantastic! The staff is experienced and knowledgeable in interior design and just super helpful; and get this, if an item sits on the floor, overtime it gets marked down 20%, 40% 60%! I ended up buying a Restoration Hardware Dining Table, and 6 dining chairs! My brother bought 2 Walter E Smithe loveseats! We could have never afforded them new, but we don't care. We are giddy all the way to the bank and overjoyed by the quality, and they deliver! Plus, I am consigning MY sofa! Once we get the basics for the house we will be back for the walls and decor. I cannot say enough about this Oak Park gem, it is hands-down the best consignment store of its' kind in the Chicago area. We go here regularly to browse their rotating inventory and have purchased multiple pieces for our home over the past few years. The staff is incredibly helpful and clearly passionate about what they do. Most of the items appear to be brand new (many of them are, straight from Merch Mart) and they carry all high quality brands (think Horchow, not Ikea). In the summer they also offer a special (HUGE) outdoor sale with beautiful patio sets, outdoor fireplaces and bars, and everything else you could think of for summer. The people that work at this store are just rude. I have dealt with them once to try and get help with custom drapery. Not only was the woman at the desk not nice, but the actual designer was not helpful. I had to chase her down to get a quote, which turned out to be ridiculous. Items seem to be overpriced by about 75%. If you can do a search on Craigslist or on Ebay (for local pickup) you can compare for yourself. Sales staff seem very friendly when selling, but seem like they could CARE LESS when it's time to deliver your item. Delivery was slow and undependable, and when I called to find out where my items were, the staff came off as snippy, inconsistent with their facts, and tried to somehow put the responsibility on me to contact their own delivery person. If you have the means to move items yourself, save yourself a lot of trouble and head over to the Brown Elephant or local flea market. You'll get a better deal, and you won't have to deal with erratic delivery people and poor customer service. read more

I consigned seven pieces of excellent quality, perfect condition furniture that I had purchased 20 years ago. They priced the each piece at one third of what I paid for it 20 years ago. They ended up selling it at a price that was one twelfth to twenty-five percent of what it was worth 20 years ago. With their 50% commission, I received one twelfth of the original purchase price. Someone got some REALLY GREAT bargains !! The business policies that I did not like were that they will not value the furniture until it is already sitting in their store. The customer has no input as to what the value should be. The customer is at their mercy. In my specific situation, they did not "display" the furniture. They crammed it all close together, placed other furniture very close to and on top of my pieces. Time went by. The pieces did sell for. Which I acknowledge that I am grateful. There was no notification of the pieces selling. I needed to check their web site to determine their status. After waiting several weeks, expecting a check after the 10th of the following month. I needed to go in to the store and specifically request a check for my part of the sale proceeds. If I had realized that they would price the furniture at a bargain basement thrift shop prices, I would have sold the items myself. They promote themselves as a high end consignment store. In my opinion, they do not live up to that expectation. In my opinion, they have an attitude of working for the purchaser and not the consignment seller. I am grateful they sold the furniture. I do not like their business policies and/or practices. I will not sell any other pieces through them again. read more

So politically incorrect its like going back to 1992. Speaking of 1992, the prices here are okay, but the aesthetic is, overall, abysmal. Great! Perhaps I visited on an off day, but when the Salvation Army down the road is better merchandised than a consignment shop, it has me a little worried. Furniture was packed in so tightly that you couldn't see more than half of the inventory. I know that if I were to try to sell something here, I'd be more than disappointed if I found my piece 20 feet from a walkable aisle. Maybe next time, guys? read more

I have always loved just looking around this store. I recently purchased 2 beautiful pieces of furniture here. One piece was sold the moment I saw it. The other I spent an hour debating between it and another. The staff patiently waited for me to make my decision. They offered many ways to help me make my decision. It is a nice store with lots of pretty (high priced) stuff. As a shopper it is a cool place, but as a consigner, not so good FOR ARTWORK. I recently took a huge like new print thinking Their stuff is marked high, I will be glad to split the sale with them. After I dropped it off, they sent an email saying the asking price would be 50.00. That blew me away, it was an expensive print. But ok, I guess I will take that, I signed the contract. It got close to the end of the time they allot before you can pick it up again, so I went in to get it and it sold the day before(ugh!). They sold it for 32.00, my cut is 16.00. Holy Crap! It must have been a secret sale. I will never take anything there again. I'll sell it my self on Craigs list. The lady says, " Well artwork does not sell very well here. It's just not a good place for artwork." I guess she's right! Lesson learned. read more

OMG I love this place. After somne construciton on our home I was looking for some new, yet unique, pieces of furniture. I found 4 beautiful pieces and altogether spent less than $1000. The quality is exceptional and they are great in my home. They were so accomodating, and I spent hours there mixing and matching options. I also like that if you are on the look out for something specific they will put you on a wait list for when the item comes in. I will definitely be back. read more
