The esthetic of this restaurant is the same and true to a BBQ joint. The staff are nice and patient with you, any questions you might have they'll answer you thoroughly. However, I just found out when I went to lunch there that the restaurant has new owners and they changed their supplier and the rib quality isn't the same. In an era where service is lacking, this owner and all in the kitchen make this place worth coming back again and again. They are outstanding!! THE FOOD is delicious. If you have southern roots or grew up in AL, FL, GA, MS, NC, SC, this will transport you to your childhood. For those not from the south, come and have the best experience of your life. Prices are fair and reasonable for the quality and amount of food. And it's "real" ice tea, sweet or unsweetened. Seating is outdoors under a covered patio but this is quite ok. We've been coming to this place forever. It's changed hands down through a family generation or so, but the basics have remained the same. It's still a no-frills throwback to those southern barbecue shacks that used to populate the back roads. And you can smell the smoke of the cooking. They have updated the place a bit with some paint and tables that are covered, but the barbecue is still some of the best in the area. It's located in an industrial area and that makes up a lot of their clientele from surrounding businesses. The separate building is right next to the street. They do a lot of take out, but we chose to sit at one of their concrete benched tables in the open air, but under the covered patio. You get to see and hear the street traffic. There is no "inside" seating. You order at the counter window and pay, and they call your name to pick up your food. The menu is posted on the wall and there's usually a daily special on one of the small blackboards. I got their quarter chicken lunch special and requested white meat. It came with cornbread and a choice of one side. The combo breast wing was cooked through and through and slathered with sauce. At first, I didn't think it would be big enough to satisfy me, but I was pleasantly surprised. It was delicious. For my side, I got their baked beans. Unlike some, these were very flavorful and a good combo with the chicken. The corn bread is slightly sweet but more like the plainer southern style than the cake like one that I usually prefer. It still was a more than acceptable side. There are different sauces in containers on the tables --- either sweet or hot. I didn't need to add any to my food, but that's a personal choice. My husband got their rib tips special. He chose collard greens for his side. He said they were very good. His special also came with corn bread. The rib tips were tender and meaty, although one piece was a little too fatty for me. He added a bit of their sweet BBQ sauce to the meat. I think I might get this special, however, next time. For dessert, he got their peach cobbler. He said it was good, although they use canned peaches. He'd wanted banana pudding, but they were out of it. I have a vague memory that one of the older women (long passed) used to make the pudding every now and then. You had to be there just at the right time before they'd sell out. I'm glad we came back to have lunch here. It's been a while since we were in this area of town, and now it won't be such a long time between visits. read more

I rarely take Dixie HYWY . But today I did and finally decided to try this place. I ordered a full slab , collard greens and Mac Ñ cheese to go. Everything was packaged nicely and securely. The ribs were INCREDIBLE! Like butter! Not over seasoned. I tried the hot BBQ , honey mustard and regular BBQ sauces all very good. The collard greens were delicious! The seasoning and flavor were delicious. The Mac and cheese was DELICIOUS! Al dente, not mushy and not overly cheesed! It was delicious. I finished it off with banana pudding that was ADDICTINGLY DELICIOUS!!!!!! Their prices are very reasonable for the amount of food you get and considering the price of meat in this day and age. The new owner, Jeff called me to apologize. He's trying to manage the transition from the old owners and it's difficult and he was very accommodating. Seems like new owner. Cornbread 2.5" by 2" by 3/4". Is now a fekin joke. Twice now I ordered cornbread as a side and got bupkis. Ribs seem dryer than usual and now no longer has brown gravy. You hot just one more shot before you lose a customer of many years. read more

My girlfriend and I were driving back from fort Lauderdale today and felt like barbecue I know she wanted to go to Georgia pig they were closed so we googled another place and they closed in 10 minutes at 4:00 so this place came up I'd never been there before and we were close by and it looks like a little dive but it's honestly the best barbecue I've ever had I pulled pork sandwich the baked beans and the color green and sweet tea but what more could you ask for I was the perfect meal but ambience is very simple laid back outdoor seating but I'm definitely going back and try some other of their food the brisket supposed to be good also read more

Haven't been to Dixie Pig in a little while but found myself craving the Brunswick Stew, only to find out that they no longer have it. Super disappointing and hope they bring it back. Decided to go with my second go-to, which is the pulled pork sandwich, and it was good. Meat was juicy and the sauces were still tasty. Ribs were not up to par. We have eaten here many times, but today the meat was tough and rubbery. Needed a steak knife to cut the meat from the bone. It usually falls off the bone. Collard greens were not quite done, hush puppies were crispy on the outside and raw in the middle. Even the corn bread was more lump like and not flaky as in the past. It's 3 pm when we got our ribs. Worse barbecue i ever had. Rubbery. Hard. Could not tear it apart with 2 hands. No smoke smell. White flesh without the barbecue marks on it. Not sure it's the Carolina style cause I never had it, or maybe it's the time of the day so meat dried out. Staff tried by giving me another batch but it was worse than the first . Almost as if the rib was boiled and just barbecued on top of it I wanted a refund . They didn't allow it. The server said people usually order sandwich. I can see why! Why, why, WHY do new owners buy a popular restaurant that has been reliably serving tasty bbq and sides and has been a bbq joint fixture in the area for so many years....and immediately think "hey, let's change up the recipes that have been keeping the customers coming back over and over for decades"??? Been patronizing Dixie Pig for what seems like forever, and stopped in yesterday for a small to go order: 1 lb pulled pork, hush puppies, baked beans and Cole slaw. The Good: The baked beans seemed to be up to par and comparable to what I am used to here...hush puppies were different, but still decent if you weren't familiar with the prior recipe. The Bad: the pulled pork was somewhat dry, and seemed different...but willing to give it another shot...maybe just an over cooked batch. The Ugly: the Cole slaw recipe was way different and just, well, not good. As many times as I've enjoyed the food here, I'm willing to give it another shot--at least as to the bbq; as for that Cole slaw, that's now a no go, at least with the "new recipe"--and will update my review after my next foray if warranted. Constructive Suggestion: scrupulously follow recipes and cooking methods of prior owners that brought them so much success for so long read more

I've lived in Fort Lauderdale since 1968 and I am ashamed to say that I've never been here. I've driven by hundreds of times in my life. Finally I decided to stop in recently and oh my God.... Let me just say it was the most incredible slab of ribs I have ever had. Tender, juicy, flavorful and fall off the bone. Sauces are fantastic and they were kind enough to give me a sample of all of them. They were so big, we split an order and that was plenty! I have a rule not to expect much from a BBQ restaurant in any state not named Texas or North Carolina. Dixie Pig is a happy, almost joyous exception to that rule. The founder was from Wilmington NC and the pork BBQ is full blow eastern NC bbq. In any city on the eastern half of NC, it would be a local favorite. You might not expect much from the outside. You order at a walk up window and either get it to go or eat on the patio and they'll bring it to your table. Service was really good even through the environment is humble (hint, most great barbecue restaurants are). I didn't say it directly so let met correct that that now; the food is delicious. The BBQ was lightly seasoned and there's more sauce, SC mustard sauce if you must, and a sweeter thick sauce available, so it isn't just one style. The hushpuppies were fresh, round and sweet with light onion. It was so good that I can even forgive them serving Coke and not Pepsi (the taste born in the Carolinas). Highly recommended read more

If you order a NC pulled pork sandwich, you better top it with the NC cole slaw and some additional NC vinegar bbq sauce...not doing so is wasted trip. I did try one of their daily specials, Brisket Tacos. They're meant to be kept street style with cilantro and diced onion, but definitely add the thin sauce that comes on the plate. The tacos were a pleasant surprise. We were quite happy with Peach Cobbler for dessert as well.
