Hard to get to from Anderson Township. Limited inventory on HO items. Better off dealing with Amazon.

Went to Dixie Union Station to see about getting an O gauge Polar Express locomotive repaired. Won't go into detail other than to say the owner, I assumed, who waited on me is rude and unprofessional. He definitely has a chip on his shoulder and is the worst! He needs to retire and stay home! Still trying to process what happened this afternoon. To give the owner some credit, I did come into the store today with three young children. If the owner were to tell this story, he'd say something about this lax parent waltzing into the store with her unruly children, letting them run wild, potentially damaging the merchandise or worse, hurting a customer. But from where I stand, replaying what happened in my head, I came into the store, and while my son asked lots of questions, I really strived to manage my children. There was one moment when he told my daughter not to touch, literally as I was saying the same thing. I agreed with him! I doubled down on not touching. I thought, good, we're cool. Nope. There were other customers in the store. An older couple, who he was pleasant with. They seemed to know what they were doing and knew him. They were super friendly with us. There was another woman with a child, likely around the same age as my son. He seemed completely fine with them. They didn't ask any questions though. When he asked if they needed anything, the child said, "no." Meanwhile, my child blissfully kept on peppering him with questions. Unfortunately, my children, who I might add were not touching because they had been told sternly by him and myself not to, decided to pretend to be frogs, out of boredom. At this point all customers had left. All of them. It was just us. My son had selected a set and we were just trying to figure out between the two of us if he needed more track. Suddenly the owner yells, "No running!" I whirl around and call to my children, who come (unfortunately) running to me. As I'm kneeling down to correct my child, he comes up behind me and bellows, "YOU ARE MAKING IT UNSAFE FOR THE OTHER CUSTOMERS, I MUST ASK YOU LEAVE THE STORE." [Remember, we're the only ones left in the store]. My daughters burst into tears out of fright, my son puts down the set and quietly leaves the store. I grabbed the children and left. All children are in tears in the car. I'm shaking with fright. After we calmed down, we drove to EnterTRAINment Junction, where the staff sold us the exact same set for slightly more (~$10 more), but the staff person was kind, friendly, positive and upbeat. Also none of the merchandise was faded. It all looked new and nicely displayed. Checking on Amazon the price is cheaper than both Dixie and EnterTrainment Junction. But I liked the experience of buying form EnterTrainment Junction and seeing the product in person and learning from their expertise. Oh, and being treated like a human being. Needless to say we won't be back. I was happy I could end the day on a positive. My son has loved trains for ages and this was the big day we were finally going to purchase. He was super excited and then so deftly crushed by this man. I know, I have kids. I know, it's difficult. Not everyone loves kids. No, you don't have to tolerate them in your store, but you can be kind. You can be empathetic. Considering I literally agreed with your rules and was working hard to manage my children, you could have told them not to run and we could have moved on. They were no longer touching. They listen. So zero stars for this location. read more

Why do I love Dixie Union Station? Well there is a story here... I have loved trains since I laid with my head on the floor opposite my dad and I watched my first Lionel Berkshire engine, puffing smoke, headlight bright, head right at me, pulling a string of freight cars around a figure eight layout on the living room floor, and it would always turn just as it seemed it was going to hit me!!!! It was my first train and it was Christmas in Dayton!!! Pure magic! And this train became more than a toy, it became a history teacher, a friend maker and an electrical and mechanical educator...and all the time it was foremost, fun!!! It brings back memories of my pop, a WW II, Battle of the Bulge veteran with 3 Bronze stars! A man who had seen the worst and still had the love of toys and his son that in retrospect one might have thought had been lost. It made him a boy again!! Well my dad is gone, but I still have that train and those memories. Over time, it need to be repaired, it need parts and I wanted accessories! We would go to Smitty's in Dayton, now gone! Then to Davis Electronics in Milford, we're the amazing Jim Barrett repaired my train, while I watched him and he taught me. Now he and Davis are gone. Then there was Tim's Trains in Kentucky. It too is now gone. Then a guy named Rocky opened a train store in Mason, and my childhood was renewed!!! Her was a place I could take my grandkids and see them excited, and teach them. They had their Polar Express period and the memories they have they can share with their children. If you haven't been to Dixie Union Station, take a child! Take your sons and daughters and let them see the displays and different engines and cars... and use that time to have shared fun and explain to them that these are working models of the transportation system that built this nation!!! Dixie Union Station is one of the last places we're kids can see toys before they are bought and can express what excites them. In this day of cell phones and and computers, this ability to relate to kids is rare, and should be cherished! Give Dixie Union Station a visit, you'll not regret it!!!! read more

Wow - this place has everything train related I could think of. (I won't claim everything "you" can think of, because I don't know what all you could possibly dream up.) We needed a few parts for a set, and they delivered. The employee I worked with, Jim, was immensely helpful and helped me pick the perfect pieces. The overall cost was not nearly what the people online were charging. I loved being able to choose what I wanted with it right in front of me. read more

No help whatsoever from the person working in this store. There was no one else in the store, so it was not like he was busy. Just did not want to be bothered I guess. I was later able to figure out on my own what part I needed to fix my engine. I went somewhere else. They would not give me the time of day at this place. read more

This train store has never disappointed me. There is a wide inventory of older and newer locomotives and box cars from primarily Lionel and MTH. The front of the store is devoted to O scale with a good size operating layout with many examples of landscaping, buildings and signals. Rocky, the owner, is very helpful in answering questions, troubleshooting defective equipment and placing pre-orders. On several occasions I have witnessed Rocky explaining model railroading to persons of all ages. I seem to always find something I must have for my layout at a competitive price. read more

I emailed Dixie Union Station asking if they had a specific Lionel Fastrack curved track in stock. I got an almost immediate reply from Rocky that they in fact had the items in stock.
