When I first walked in, I wasn't greeted or acknowledged by anyone. I stood at the counter for a couple of minutes while an employee stood chatting and laughing with another staff member. I had to wave just to get their attention, and even then, they acted like I was bothering them. I asked about the difference between wild-caught and farm-raised salmon, and the worker (i was told his name was cooper) responded with an eye-roll and said, "It's just fish, lady." Not only was that rude, but also completely unhelpful. He then pointed vaguely towards one of the displays and said something like, "Whatever's there is probably wild," with no clear labeling or explanation. When I asked him to weigh some fillets, he handled them with bare hands, even though there where gloves visible. That alone was enough to make me second-guess the store's hygiene standards. Between the lack of professionalism and the poor customer service, I won't be returning. If you choose to shop here, check everything carefully--especially if Cooper is the one helping you.

I was recently in over the Thanksgiving holiday, and they had a platter of samplers for almost every variety by their door. I love the sweet Crab and Chutney spread, the super savory Bacon Ranch Crab dip, the chunky Cheesy Crab Spread, the smoother and more mild Clam Dip, and the Smoked Fish Spread. Seriously, you can't go wrong here. The Crab and Spinach Dip was one I hadn't tried before, and it was delicious as well. But of course, my favorite (with the Crab & Chutney as a close second) is the perennial favorite Jim's Holiday Spread. The cream cheese and relish in this make it impossible to stop eating, and the sweetness is just perfect. I wish their online store had reasonable shipping costs so I can fly this across the country to me Los Angeles, where I am sadly without it for 51 weeks out of the year. I have yet to find a local equivalent, so I'll continue to pine for Dixon's spreads until the next holiday season.

The service was second to none, from the hostess/manager Angie, to my delightful waitress Macy. The view of the Illinois River augmented a warm but comfortably rustic setting. I started with an Espresso Martini -- 360 Vanilla, Kahlua, Tia, Espresso & Cream with three delicious coffee beans on top. The cocktail was remarkably flavorful and I am a coffee martini enthusiast. For an appetizer I indulged myself and ordered a staple of any high-end seafood restaurant; Oysters Rockefeller baked in the half-shell. This traditional mainstay was absolutely perfectly cooked with the added twist of bacon. (Everything is better with bacon). That is another thing they don't do is move products to the front, i don't have this problem at Pekin Kroger, and when I go there, the store is clean and there are employees walking around doing their jobs but also if you need help which is their job. It is a good thing they didn't expand because they can't take care of how things are now.
