I went here on the weekend for lunch. The store is very clean and nautically themed and the staff was very friendly and attentive. I got a fried shrimp entree and a boil( my very first time having one) along with fried rice that was not noted on the menu but pointed out by the staff to me. The seafood was fresh and delicious, the service was very speedy and the waiters checked on my party frequently enough to make sure things were ok. There is a large parking area outside and they give you a Rangoon for free as a starter when you get there which I thought was very kind of them. A comfortable relaxing environment. My hubby got the choose your combo sea food boil. He loved it. I got the catfish and shrimp basket. We got hushpuppies and calamari for an appetizer. Trust your instincts. My first time here I walked in and walked out because it was empty. I should have heeded my instincts a second time. Where do I start? I ordered online. The boil consisting of 1/2 pound shrimp, clams, blue crab. This comes with potatoes and corn. It arrives in a very heavy plastic bag filled with enough oil and water to lubricate your vehicle for a solid 100,000 miles. The flavor, Cajun, mild. I return to my humble abode at the embassy suites (see review - don't stay here) to partake in my bounty of the sea. In order to protect yourself from the onslaught of fluids, you should wear a similar level of protective gear that ol' Fauci told every American they should wear during his pandemic. This should resonate with those in Illinois, Massachusetts, California, and other states who are now migrating to the south... you all know where I'm coming from. I geared up and opened the bag. The aroma got to me first. The shrimp were plump and actually pretty good. Just don't ponder where shrimp might come from as you dine on them in Peoria. The clams were a different story. I wondered to myself..."self...are these perhaps zebra mussels...plucked from the hull of Peoria's floating casino?" They were small, grainy, flavorless, outright scary. Two of them were more than enough risk for this old sailor. By way of divine intervention, they were out of blue crab. . I consider myself the winner on that one. A few hours later, in what can only be described as correlating to the scene from Titanic in which that monstrous noise occurred when the boat separated from itself before disappearing into the sea, my insides made the same noise, and this meal, vanished in a similar, dramatic, Oscar-winning fashion. I ordered the half pound of head-off shrimp seafood boil and added the egg. I added the white rice. I ate the whole thing!! It was delicious. I got their special sauce that combines everything. It was the perfect amount of sauce to seafood ratio. Some places have their sauces drowning, other places barely covering the bag. They gave me plenty of wet wipes as it is a very messy process. Incredible seafood at very reasonable prices! Holy Crab offers authentic Acadian Cajun boiled crab, shrimp, scallops, and fish pots of several varieties and spice levels (cayenne & black pepper stands out more). They also have a few other Cajun specialties, including gumbo (one of my favorites) which has a subtly more Creole taste (tomato & paprika is more forward) and crispy sweet-corn hush puppies (reminds me of Paul Prudhomme's recipe which is more wheat than corn, and has sweet onion). I enjoyed our seafood boil dinner so much, I went back for lunch the next day. I got the Holy Crab sampler which features catfish, oysters, shrimp, a crab cake, fries, and I added a tilapia fillet. All of the fish was expertly prepared, and their batter is a rich and crispy sweet-onion batter with a dusting of corn to add to the texture. The portions were very generous for the price. I also got the egg fried rice, which was very tasty, and filled me up after a long day of walking around. For dinner, we went just after peak hours, and the service was fairly quick (for a seafood boil). It was much busier at lunch, but they were able to prepare and serve the food lightning-fast, even with a number of to-go orders being picked up during service. The staff are friendly, and checked on us regularly to top off drinks (we went with medium spiciness, which was perfect with iced tea). Holy Crab ended up being my favorite stop of my trip in Peoria. The food, service, and prices were all quite good. If I'm in the area again, I will stop here to eat for sure! read more

Amazing place! A new favorite for the Peoria area, large Southern menu chucked full of happy ingredients that give all the good comfort eats up north. There's allegator, crayfish, shrimp, those zesty sauces, and big dishes. My buddies did the basics, I did a gumbo entree. So good! Fresh ingredients for the trip up here, well prepared and balanced seasonings just right. This is the perfect cure for Midwest blues, a warm hug. We were treated to house crab Rangoon too, best treats! It's full on good living in food form in a great gulf inspired atmosphere with friendly and well trained staff. Noticed the chalkboard specials offered even more enticing hunger fixes, lots of value here avoiding a sixteen hour drive south, we will definitely be back to get more seafood and enjoy the quality time here. read more

I was nervous when they brought out a plastic bag full of seafood, but it was soooo good! I got 1/2 lb of blue crab and 1/2 lb of clams with all the seasoning. There was only a whisper of Cajun flavor in the sauce, so basically my seafood/veggies were just sitting in oil and didn't taste like much even after dipping. I really had a great bowl of sausage and shrimp gumbo. The gumbo was loaded with ingredients. I like my food with a lot of spice so I asked for some cajun spice on the side. They obliged with a small bowl of cajun spice in oil. It has an awesome flavor and was not super hot and was a great addition to the gumbo. Atmosphere is very comfortable and the service was good.
