I've stopped by a number of coffee shops when I'm in Peoria and this one hits the spot! Coffee was delicious and well balanced. Great location and friendly staff. 100% recommend.

    Ube latte and cortado

The vibes are ELITE. Very clean, very peaceful. Would love to come here to chat with friends or study/do work. I got the Ubé latte - velvety delicious-ness. Matt was super helpful and friendly ! His skills behind the espresso bar are unmatched. Beautiful left and right. Bathroom lighting 12/10 ( as a momma to a 6 month old this matters lol ) also extra points for changing stations in bathrooms ! Thanks again Matt !!

I most definitely revere coffee. Before heading to Bloomington for the day, Tim and I needed coffee and what better time to get coffee is a Grand Opening of a new coffeehouse. We stopped by before hitting the road and the place was bustling with people. We were greeted by the owners upon entering and didn't have to wait too long before ordering. Tim got a cold brew and I got my usual Americano (and two stickers to help support the business). As we were waiting for our drinks, we chatted with the owner for a bit and I told her I love a good bitter Americano. She said their Americano was based on their house blend and that it might not be that bitter. We quickly got our drinks, got confused by the lids, and then hit the road. Their menu is limited to what you see at the moment with a few baked goods that I saw on the counter. There was enough seating inside for a few groups of people but if the place is full, Tim spied some seating outside along the left side of the building. The owner was correct in saying their Americano isn't bitter. It was more of a murky colored and flavored one that I've had before. It was good, just lacked that clear bitterness I love but that's my own personal preference. I hope this place does well with all the shopping stores in the area, Costco next door, and a luxury apartment complex going up. I am sure I will be back before too long to try it out with my friend Maria since she likes to try new places, too. If I do, I will update this blog with anything new I see there.

Amazing & tasty coffee! Inside is super cozy with the fireplace - a perfect place to get some work done or read a book. The service was great, the barista explained a few of the drinks to me and I ended up getting the Ube Cappuccino. It was so good!! My new coffee spot when I'm in town.

Cappuccino: A Love Affair with Every Sip I love everything about cappuccino--the flavor, the smoothness, the aroma, and the velvety texture of each sip, especially when crafted just right. For me, coffee is best enjoyed with company--I've never had one alone. As an avid runner who travels for half marathons, one of the things I look forward to after crossing the finish line is finding a local coffee shop. It's become a ritual to head straight from the race to a café with my running buddies to enjoy a well-earned cappuccino. When I moved to this town, my first mission was to find a local coffee shop. A friend recommended Reverence and took me there. From the moment I walked in, I could smell the unique local essence of the place. I was greeted by Sly, the barista, who welcomed me with a big smile and immediately took my order--there weren't many people there at the time. My go-to recipe: a cappuccino with oat milk. The moment he heard that, his face lit up as if he was excited to craft something special. Oat milk complements cappuccino beautifully, and I could tell he was eager to make it just right. Minutes later, he personally served the coffee at our table--an unexpected touch of hospitality that made me feel valued. It's rare to be served coffee at the table in a café, especially by the barista himself. With the very first sip, I thought to myself: Ah! This was the best cappuccino I had ever tasted. After trying coffee from at least 25 different shops, I could immediately tell this one was different. If you are a true coffee lover, someone who understands the art of coffee, this is the place for you. The perfect blend, the treated water, the precisely roasted and pressed espresso--all carefully crafted with oat milk at the right temperature and served in a warm cup. I can't thank them enough. I've noticed something remarkable about Reverence: the consistency. I've seen three different baristas, and to my surprise, each one makes the cappuccino exactly the same way. I have never seen this level of precision and uniformity in any other shop. Stay tuned--I'll be sharing more reviews, including experiences with other talented baristas from this gem of a coffee shop.

Don't be a chicken on trying new places…read more Maria and I dropped in on this hidden gem of a coffee place on a whim. I had seen the local newspaper cover their opening so I asked her that morning if she wanted to go and so we went. Maria had some trouble locating the coffeehouse as it's located inside a business-like building and then down a hallway. Once we figured it out, we ordered our drinks and plopped down for some sips and chats. Maria got a cold brew and I snagged a very large black americano. It wasn't super bitter like some americanos that I've had before but that was a welcome change. The owner/cashier was super friendly and Maria ended up talking to her for a bit while I looked around. It didn't take long to get our drinks and we sat down at one of the few places to sit in the small coffeehouse area. This place strikes me as a place better to snag your coffee and go back to work in one of the many offices around but the inclusion of chairs and tables is nice for those of us who want to drop in and chill with some caffeine and a friend for awhile. If you are hungry, there isn't much in the way for food besides them selling Tadoughs donuts and some small offerings like bagged chips. That wasn't a concern for me but I know Maria was hungry for something like a breakfast sandwich or the like. But due to the quaint size of the area behind the counter, they probably don't have the space for proper cooking instruments. All-in-all, a really cool and really small coffeehouse located in some kind of office building.

Review Visit: December 23rd, 2015…read more Smoothie King demands your payment, your devotion and your adoration! Bow to the Smoothie King! Is Smoothie King really the king of all smoothie places? Possibly. This is the only smoothie place I have visited so far, so it may possibly be the most delicious and bestest smoothie place there is. This place kicks butt!…read more My friend Tim told me about this place awhile back and has been waiting patiently for it to open. Fast forward 2 months when we planned a day to hang out and play board games when I suggested we check it out. Matt, Tim, and I popped in on a Saturday afternoon and all was quiet. As we walked up, we almost turned around as it looked closed (there was a big lock on one of the doors) but I wanted to 100% be sure it was closed so I walked up to visually confirm there was no one inside. Come to our surprise that it was open. We quickly dipped inside to avoid the humidity and heat of the day and made our ways to the giant tvs that displayed the menus. Said menus quickly irritated us as they were on a continuous scroll every 5 seconds or so... of the same photo. There are 3 tvs and each one displayed one portion of the menu. Each one was set up to a slideshow effect and would transition to the next photo of the same photo it just showed you. So, we kept having to re-focus on where we were despite it being the same image. It took a bit longer to figure out what we wanted to order because of this. But once we knew what we wanted, we ordered with the cashier and waited for our drinks. Tim was distracted with his phone when Matt and I got distracted with something behind the counter. It was this machine that shook the drinks and let me tell you... we were mesmerized by it. We both commented on it at the same time and kept watching the workers load drinks in it. Then we were mesmerized by the machine that put a seal on the cups. Both Matt and I said we could watch this process all day. I've had sealed drinks like this before but never one that was done within viewing range. Any who, like us getting distracted by that machine, I am getting off topic here. We were served our drinks and we walked over to Costco to get some pizzas for our game night. My first sip of my drink (which was a caramel macchiato) and I knew I made the right choice. It was a delicious mix of what you would expect a caramel macchiato to taste like but in a slush-form. For it being a hot and humid day, it was the perfect thing to sip on during the walk over and through Costco. I can see myself coming back here for a special treat once in awhile. The Levee District in East Peoria has a lot of cool shops but severely lacks a place that I think Kung Fu Tea fills in nicely. Sure, there is a Starbucks and Dunkin' nearby, but this place adds something to the area that I feel that it's lacking. This was evident by the fact that when we walked in, there were only 2 people in there but when we left, there were about 12-15 people milling about, waiting to order or waiting for their drinks. I hope they continue to do well as the landscape of most areas needs some diversity over the usual big chains and corporations.

Think Smoothie King but with food…read more Starting off my 2025 travels with a healthy place and some coupons I got in the mail. On this particular day, my friend Jeremy and I decided to drop in for lunch since we were both bored and had the rare same day off together. I had some coupons that Tropical Smoothie Cafe sent me in the mail to entice me to visit. I used the combo coupon that netted me a flatbread, a side, and a smoothie for the low cost of $5. Jeremy used a 50% sandwich coupon and grabbed a smoothie himself. It wasn't entirely too busy when we arrived. There was a couple sitting inside and the person behind the counter was working on an order. It took awhile for another person to come out and acknowledge us but quickly took our order. I ended up with the chicken bacon ranch flatbread, a jetty punch smoothie and some jalapeno chips. Jeremy got the buffalo chicken wrap and the same smoothie as me. We waited probably 10-15 minutes to get our food, which felt a bit longer than what a smoothie place should take but it wasn't like we were starving for our food. The interior was a bit sparse but I don't think this is a place you'd come and sit for a full meal and conversations nor a place to plop down with a laptop and do some homework or professional work. It had the vibe of sit and enjoy but don't hang around too long. That's neither bad nor good as we had plans to visit another friend after eating so we dipped out pretty quick after finishing up. We dug in once we got our food and it didn't take too long to demolish the food. After we finished, we both kinda looked at each other and both agreed that while the food was good, paying full price would've felt like it was a bit much. The quality of the food and the cooking were great, it's just that we both found it to be lacking something. Same with the smoothie. It was good but it felt like the strawberry nor the banana really shone through and it tasted like a generic blend of healthy. It's a bit of a bummer that the food and smoothie were decent but nothing to write home about. We both wished the food and smoothie had just a bit more of a punch to the flavor instead of being more on the bland side of things. Despite all that, I am typing this up about 4 hours later (around 7pm) and don't really see myself cooking dinner. Maybe a small snack but definitely not a full meal. It may have been lacking in the flavor department but between the smoothie and meal, it wasn't lacking in filling me up and that's considering I didn't even eat the chips. Stay smooth, everyone.

Review Visit: May 2nd, 2015…read more Not just a bakery but a tourist stop. If you mention getting donuts (or doughnuts) in East Peoria, everyone will talk about how good Carl's Bakery is. They produce a lot of doughnuts (or donuts) that are beloved by the residents of East Peoria. Having lived in the general area and having drove by the place a million times, I thought it was time to check it out. If you are familiar with Carl's Bakery, you are familiar with the giant rooster that is outside the building. If you aren't familiar, then there is a giant rooster outside the building. One that is prime for taking a fun photo with. My dad and I did just that after trying out their food. Carl's Bakery is one of those places that seems to be open from before the sun rises to around noon-ish. So, if you are interested in going, you better head there when the roosters crow or else they will be closing up shop. When you go, you have to compete for a parking spot on the side of the building. While Carl's has an indoor eating area, I took the limited parking as a sign that they cater to the 'pick up my donuts (or doughnuts) and go' crowd. Nonetheless, my dad and I found a spot to park and headed in. Once we were inside, we had to squeeze a large throng of people to get to the counter. We told the cashier we wanted to eat in. She guided us to a table and we took a seat. While looking over the menu, I had hopes of getting some breakfast as that is what I assumed they specialized in. Maybe we missed a cutoff point or something else happened but we ended up ordering some lunch instead. My dad got a tenderloin and I got... I honestly don't remember. Maybe a burger that came with a ton of fries. Oh, and we both got coffee. Let us start with the coffee. It was... not good. I've had cheap coffee and this stuff takes the cake. I used more half-n-half and sugar than I normally do. While I am no snob and I put down a few cups, it wasn't worth it in the end to taste some water masquerading as coffee. But no worries. It's just coffee. We were there for the food. How was that?/ A notch above the coffee. I fully admit that I don't remember what sandwich I got but I do remember not being a fan of it. My dad said the same thing about his tenderloin. Both just lacking in everything. How does that happen? Can a chef or someone with cooking knowledge explain that to me? The french fries were salvageable at least. In fact, they were the only things that tasted good. Hype. It has it's place in the world but more often than not, I find that hype ruins a lot of things for me. Movies, video games, restaurants, and various other things. It's nice to get excited about something but when it doesn't live up to that level, I believe it is more disappointing than if it weren't hyped at all. But we aren't here for a hype discussion. My dad and I got to hang out and try something new. Was it the best place ever? No. Do I cherish the memory of this outing? Heck yes. While I may have had a lack luster time here, don't let the opposite of hype dissuade you from checking it out if you are a doughnut (or donut) person. Or you want to stop and take a photo with the giant rooster outside and then find yourself magically teleported inside, trying out their coffee and menu offerings.
