He is very professional and always pays attention to every little detail. He can really lean into a theme or be flexible and take requests. With recent restrictions around COVID-19, he has taken the safety of his clients and himself to the next level with quality, nice looking PPE instead of just throwing on a mask. Jon is an absolutely fantastic DJ who I would recommend over and over again for all types of occasions. Jon was the DJ for our wedding and exceeded all expectations that we had for our DJ experience. From the beginning he was very communicative and accommodating of our busy schedules. He made sure to ask all the right questions and to dive into exactly what we wanted for our big day. The 2 main points to convey about Jon are 1) He really, really, really wanted us to be happy with his Dj-ing and he really, really, REALLY wanted our guests to have a good time. 2) He is just a really great DJ. He knows how to spin and transition songs seamlessly (and in an order that make sense). And he knows how to read a crowd - that coupled with the above points made him a PHENOMENAL DJ for our wedding. Relatively speaking, we were a little late in the game for securing a DJ, so we were extremely excited (and lucky) to find Jon when we did. Jon is fantastic! We really wanted a DJ who we could completely trust with the playlist for our ceremony and reception and not have to detail every song to be played. We hired DJ Gatsby (Jon) for our wedding outside Austin a few weeks ago. We were really hoping to stay away from the prototypical cheesy wedding DJ that we had experienced at so many weddings before. I knew Jon was a unique find as soon as I looked through his "resume". This guy has serious DJ chops - he's worked in many different cities in all sorts of different venues. We gave him some direction on what genres and artists we liked and any specific songs that were must plays, but ultimately trusted his expertise to choose the right song at the right time. One of the main reasons we hired Jon was that he is an actual DJ by trade who puts a focus on the music first and being an MC second. He also is one of the best at mixing in and out of songs, but knows how to read the room and will keep a good song going if it's a hit or transition out of one quicker if it's a flop. Jon was also very accommodating and creative as we had one specific request for him to do a "Jump Around" mastermix which he mixed in and out of 5 or 6 songs that all fell within the same theme and it was awesome!!! The icing on the cake was that even after Jon announced the last song of the night, he kept the party going as our wedding planner told him she needed a few more minutes to clear some cars for our grand exit. I was really worried about booking a DJ for our wedding. I had no idea what I was doing. The whole wedding planning process was so out of my comfort zone, and looking for a DJ was something I'd never done. I started my search on Yelp and stumbled across DJ Gatsby. I am so glad that I went with him. After one conversation I felt confident that he understood the type of wedding we wanted and felt like he was really knowledgeable about all genres of music. He was also fantastic with communication leading up to the wedding. He always presented himself with very approachable professionalism and was able to effectively communicate and coordinate via e-mail, which was a huge help to me. He laughed when I said "My dream wedding would be an all night Motown dance party". He delivered. The dance floor was full all night. People mentioned all night and days after how much they enjoyed the DJ. There were a lot of older people at our wedding and they appreciated him as much as everyone in their 20s-30s did. The biggest fear is that the DJ will be a dud and no one will dance- at our wedding, people were sore the next day from dancing their brains out. I also appreciated his vibe during all of the traditional toasts, cake cutting, father daughter dance, and announcements. Who knew that it was possible to not be corny or cheesy during these required wedding activities? He kept the banter minimal and there was ZERO cheesiness. For Amy's Ice Creams 30th reunion he was communicative throughout the entire planning process and customized the playlist so that it reflected the feeling of the event perfectly. Jon is the BEST - we could not have been happier with his work at our wedding!!! He kept everyone dancing the entire night, and I've had so many people tell me that he was the best DJ they've heard at a wedding. He really stayed true to the input that we provided, both by playing our "must have" songs, but also tailoring the entire set to match our tastes and vibe. It was just great song after great song Jon is also incredibly professional and so easy to work with. I went back and forth on some of the logistics a few times, and he never batted an eye.
