Issue one : Jason ( DJ Gump ) is very unprofressional in his business practice. I have never had someone ask for complete payment before service is completed. The point of a contract is that both parties give up something, not a DJ simply taking the fee weeks before the event and the buyer is left crossing there fingers and hoping the DJ shows up. Issue two : Jason does not play music from a computer, IPod, IPad, IPhone or laptop. He burns cd's from his library of music. Basically, this means that once Jason gets a feel for the music you want at your special event, he burns CD'S from his music library to play at your special,event. In our case it was our wedding. Issue Three: Now it gets better...after talking with Jason and expressing to him the music we wanted at our wedding, he seemed very receptive. I felt confident and reassured - only for a brief period unfortunately. Jason requested a list of songs that were "must play". Via his request we gave that information. His retort was very disappointing. He informed us that from the 50 songs we considered "must play", 20 or more were not in his library. This was very perplexing to me considering that almost every conversation I had with Jason was followed with " I ve been doing this for 9 years ". I basically told him to go get the music we want " OR ELSE". !!! He did. Issue Four : Jason and I had words prior to my wedding. I expressed to him my concern and lack of confidence in him I was feeling. His insecurities quickly showed their face. He not only requested payment before the wedding, he had the balls to demand cash! This is the best part - after being married for all of 30 minutes, Jason repeatitly ask for his money. At one point my bride asked him what the issue was. Jason said " this is business between Michael ( me ) and him, and I don't want to include you". My wife said - were married now so it includes me you idiot!!! So tasteless ... I gave him 400 cash to settle our balance before I even sat down for dinner at my own wedding. read more

I had many people come up to me at my wedding this past weekend and comment about how great the music was--starting with the ceremony, and continuing on throughout the evening (cocktail hour, dinner, dance and party time) until midnight. Jason did a spectacular job--he arrived several hours early to ensure that the sound was set up properly, both in the banquet hall and in the room where the ceremony and cocktail hour occurred. Jason was a pleasure to work with--he's got a great sense of humor, but more importantly, he has a great knowledge of a wide variety of music, and he used that knowledge to keep the celebration flowing for seven continuous hours. I was impressed, my wife was impressed, our guests were impressed, and if you hire him, you'll be impressed, too. Oh, and the special mix CD that he made for my wife and me? It's phenomenal. He is very unprofessional. We met at the venue to assess what the situation was, and what he needed, then he later informed me that I needed to go back to the backyard of the house that we are having the wedding at and measure for him....? how much cord he needed for the microphone. I tried to tell him that we only needed 80 to100 feet and he said that wasn't good enough he wanted the exact measurement. He was there, he should have measured it himself and done his job. A true professional would have known, or measured himself how much cord he needed to bring with him. This man is extremely difficult to work and unprofessional. He threatened me and several people that he was just going to quit the day of my wedding. A true professional goes with the flow does the job he was hired for and doesn't cause this much trouble. My fiance David had to go back to the house to get pick up another table so he wasn't there when the DJ(Jason) showed up. I told Jason that David would be here shortly, so this DJ (Jason) took me aside only to threaten to quit & rant me at how disorganized everything was, Which we all know, the day of a wedding it is intense getting everything ready especially since we did all of it ourselves with the help of friends. I finally got him back to work and showed him where to put the cord, which I had already showed him the day we were there to assess the venue. He was hired for our wedding. Jason was wonderfull! He dj'd my 50th birthday bash at the Hilton in Concord, and everyone had a great time. The music chosen was from the 50's and 60's as well as a little hip hop from today. I did not hire Jason for my event, but I would like to comment on his communication style which I was very much not impressed with. I spoke to him about the possibility of DJing my wedding, and let him know I was considering other providers as well. I followed up with several DJs and was taking the necessary time to make the decision. You would think someone experienced in DJing weddings would understand that they are important events to those involved, and that decisions take time. The event was not scheduled to occur for several months. A week and a half later I still hadn't fully made up my mind, and Jason starts texting me multiple times pestering me to hire him. I didn't respond at first because I didn't appreciate this, and because I hadn't made my final decision. I then received repeated "?" and "??" texts from him after not responding, which was enough to let me know he was not the right person for my event. I expressed this to him in a text message. I was very polite letting him know I'd chosen someone else and that I didn't appreciate his nagging messages. Instead of apologizing or being in any way gracious about the feedback like a respectable businessperson would be, he fired back with a rude comment about how he would have appreciated a more timely response, and mocked my attempt at a polite wording for my message. You don't have to fall over yourself apologizing for little things like this, but at least be an adult. We hired Jason for our wedding on September 7th. He arrived several hours early to set up the event. Previously, the communication had been prompt and responsive. During our event, he played appropriate background music through our reception and sit down dinner. For the dancing portion, he included our must play songs and built the energy to a great crescendo. Everyone was on their feet dancing. We had a great wedding and Jason contributed to our celebration significantly. I recommend his services. read more

We used this company for our wedding in August 2013. From the moment I spoke with him I knew I picked the right place. He was so personable and easy to talk to. As the months went along he was always available to answer any questions I had and to give me guidance when needed for picking out songs. He met with me multiple times, which I thought was great, meant he was really serious about what he does. When the big day finally came, he was there ready to throw a great party. I would like to start out by stating that this is a customer service review as we did not end up selecting Jason. To put it out there, I did read each of the 74 positive reviews posted on Jason's website before I reached out to him. I did take a look at the fact that he had acted as a DJ at 296 venues, 101 of those as wedding venues and 195 of those as party venues, over a 14 year period. I did look through his website and read his PDF. I relied on his website and the positive reviews on Weddingwire. I believe that was my mistake. I did not look at Yelp and disregarded the negative review comments on Weddingwire. I have definitely learned my lesson. I should have known to stop pursuing DJ Gump as a potential DJ for my wedding after our 14min 57sec conversation where close to the beginning he said what I was asking was impossible and if any DJ said otherwise they were lying. He stated that I mislead everyone with the information I put onto Bark, which is one of the platforms I use to locate local DJs. I'm afraid he was the only DJ who misunderstood or had an issue with our setup desires. He said that it was a waste of his money to pursue the lead and talk with me. After I was able to explain that I would arrange for more set up time (our venue opens to us at 5pm and I would like the ceremony to begin at 5:30pm, but we added set up time), he then had an issue with anyone on site while he set up. He said our venue was impossible (other DJs have played there) and would cause problems. At that point I should have bowed out and thanked him for his time as I am more of a can-do kind of person myself, getting things done. I did not. I continued the conversation to explain what we were looking for and what the feel was. He seemed less disagreeable about that, though he seemed in a hurry to get off the phone so we agreed he would email me and I would respond with additional questions. When he sent me an email, the price we had agreed on was different than what he posted, which he later said the increase would be for set up difficulties. I was really confused about that since I thought we had gotten past that. I responded with my questions, some of which came from his recommended questions to ask your DJ off of his website. I thought I was on the same page as him, but I really wasn't. His responses were dismissive and unprofessional. Instead of asking for clarification, he assumed, instead of being accommodating or providing recommendations, he was dismissive and passed off responsibility. I asked 11 or so follow up questions, which he called extensive. I'm afraid he must not be very open to communication if that is what he deems "extensive." I reread my email to double check what I had sent and I think his thought process was on a different level than mine at that point. His email response could not have taken more than 5mins to write based on what was there. One thing that really meant something to me, and I emphasized it in our conversation, was that this be a fun event. Extremely casual and enjoyable for everyone. I didn't feel we could have that with him and he would create stress where it wasn't necessary. There are enough stessors associated with planning a wedding from sources outside of our control. I didn't want to intentionally introduce a stressor I could avoid. I was disappointed to say the least. The reviews on his website were fantastic, but I decided he wasn't for us so I moved on. He emailed me asking if I would like to reserve the date with him, I responded thank you, but no. I explained that he made me feel as if our event would be a hassle and not something he was interested in. His response was that I wasted his time. I. Wasted. His. Time. I spent more time doing research on him than he did in talking to me and answering my email combined. His website says he provides a 45min free consultation. What it should say is that this is done grudgingly. Though he has great reviews posted on his website, over 70 as he says (74), he has 11 on Weddingwire and 5 on Yelp. Am I missing a review site? I wish I had checked up on other sources of reviews before making contact and assuming all of his reviews were legit. That was my mistake. I'll own that. I'm sure he is fantastic as a DJ for some people. He just wasn't for us. I have left a lot out of this review as I'm trying to share the parts of my experience that I feel are unacceptable when dealing with clients. Thank you Jason for a wonderful evening at the 50th Birthday party celebration we had last night. I found Jason by chance via Yelp and I had a hunch that he would great. Comments from the guests included "one of the best playlist I have ever heard at a party", and "the music really set the tone for the best party we have been to in a long time" Jason took the time to find out what music we liked, what feeling we were looking to achieve via the music and no request was too small. I didn't use this DJ for this reason. He emails numerous times during the day and after telling him not to message me again he decides to reply. I feel he's a person that has to have the last word. The reason why I didn't reply to his messages was because I was busy with my kids. I didn't have time to message back right away. I was planning to email all vendors on Sunday. This is the ONLY dj that emailed me multiple times and asked me to reply as a courtesy. I asked him if he can slow down and give potential clients time to respond. Most people will respond within 24-48 hours. Even if I haven't met him, it felt like I was being harassed to use his services. Pretty much like a salesman that won't get off your back. Yes, today I have plenty of time to right this review and respond to all messages. I will be calling all other djs that gave me time to respond. I definitely do not want to work with this one. Again, I'm only basing this comment on my communication with him. I will give him 2 stars for replying back quick the first time. However, I do not know how he djs. He may be good, I just feel he needs to work on his customer service skills. I was going to post photos of our communication but I will end it this way. Good Luck! Not a good idea to contact this guy for DJ services. Does not respond to his voicemail, and quite annoying when it comes to contract and negotiating rates. Furthermore, haggles over credit card transactions. Overall, I'd rather deal with a more reliable disc jokey for my next party needs. read more

Jason was very eager to be hired, enthusiastic about our event and went out of his way to make sure everything was just right, including arriving 4 hours early to set up. Considering all the time he spent his price was more than reasonable. But as we got closer to the date he called frequently details of the event and talked so much it was hard to get off the phone. He had lots to complain about and often sited other clients who had treated him badly as to why he was upset with me and others involved in planning our event. The event coordinator overheard him angrily speaking to me about how he was worried he wouldn't get paid and told me later she almost jumped in and told him he should never speak to a client that way. I found him unprofessional and it definitely decreased my satisfaction with his service. His DJing was fine but not worth the stress he brought to the planning process. read more

Jason was the DJ for our graduation night party - he was soo customer oriented - from the initial meeting months in advance - to the post-party wrap up. Jason asked for input on the play list, visited the venue in advance, showed up early to set up and even volunteered to help us move tables! The kids found him very easy to talk to, they placed many many song requests, which he honored - all in all, he is a great resource for keeping teen parties lively. The music selections were so fun and he really got folks up and moving (with me moving most of all! I'm thinking I may have made a bit of a spectacle of myself - but hey, it was MY party, dammit! ;-) ) I appreciate everything he did to make it all so easy and carefree for me from the very beginning. As I am a bit of a novice when it comes to party planning of this sort, I was all ready to be anxious, but there was absolutely no need. Jason really helped to make my "Milestones and New Beginnings" party a very memorable evening for all!
