Outstanding foundation and mold inspection for my refinance…read moreI needed a foundation and mold inspection for a house refinance after the appraiser flagged potential mold in the unfinished part of the basement. What he thought was mold turned out to be years of cobwebs and my black German shepherd's hair. The inspector was thorough, honest, and professional from start to finish. He promptly responded to my Yelp inquiry, took the time for a phone consultation beforehand, worked around my schedule, and arrived right on time. He did a careful inspection (we live here and I certainly don't want to live with mold), clearly explained what he found, and provided a well-written inspection letter I could submit to my lender. The price was fair and the whole experience was straightforward and professional. Highly recommend if you need a reliable, honest inspector who actually takes the time to do the job right.

I rarely give five star reviews because I rarely have good experiences with service workers - let alone great experiences. However, JB Foundations earned all 5 stars. And honestly, it's not that hard - just very few companies will do the basic things that make customers happy. It started recently with a couple days of hard rain. We live in an elevated area where our driveway slopes up and our house and foundation is higher than the street. As a result, we have never had any issues with water in the basement and rarely give it a thought. The only problem we had was the pipe leading up and out of the basement had a loose connection and I was able to tightened it up. But with this most recent rain, the sump pump started acting differently. It was still seemingly working but making an incredible noise. I had just had new flooring put in on the first floor (I'll be writing that review next) and noise carries much more within the house. At first I chalked the louder sump pump up to that. But the more I had to listen to it while working from home, I realized something was wrong. The second day, I started putting feelers out. Messaging 3 companies on their websites asking if they did this work on sump pumps and in our area. NONE RESPONDED. I hate using the phone so electronic communication is my preference. THe next morning, the pump was quieter but ran non-stop for hours - despite there not being hardly any water in the tank and it also had not really rained for a while. This time I turned to Yelp (which is where I got the names and reviews of the 3 companies I reached out to via their websites). I picked one and sent a message just like I did before. I also took the option to ask a couple more companies to respond. Almost immediately, JB Foundations responded and expressed ability and interest in doing the work. We exchanged messages via Yelp and soon I had an appointment, as well as an estimate should the pump need replacing. The appointment window was only 2 hours and they were able to come the next day. Considering we had yet to take any water in the basement, I was feeling very lucky (which is rare). Jay showed up during the 2 hour window and went to work. He showed me how the pump can be tested by bypassing the floater. The pump was still working and apparently able to push water to the street. Regardless, given the 26 years it had been working - I opted to have it replaced. Jay had a new pump with him and installed it in maybe 15 minutes. He asked for a garbage bag to carry the old pump out in as it was crusted in rust and mud. He had also pulled out a few other misc. items (paper, soda can, rocks) from the hole and transported it all way without messing up the floor. Jay educated me about the back-flow valve/connector - which was apparently what had come apart before. He had replaced it at no extra charge. I always appreciate a service person taking the time to explain things to me so I better understand how the things in our house work. Jay did so without making me feel spoken down to or stupid. I don't know what else I can share if you're not convinced yet to include this company in your search when needing any work done in your basement/foundation. I highly recommend giving them a shot.

What a blessing that I contacted Swain Co. Mike Smith of the company inspected the issue proposed a fix that included a drainage system and sump pump. He also assured me that they could take care what ever issue they may find down there. His estimate was very reasonable. The work started when they said it would. WHAT A WEIGHT LIFTED FROM MY SHOULDERS. When the three man crew arrived and introduced themselves and the supervisor outlined what they would be doing and when they expected to complete the job. The supervisor, Efrain, and Salvador and Eddie gave me confidence I was in great hands. Now this is something you hardly ever hear anyone say anymore; but I have never seen three men work so hard and professionally as those three did. Efrain kept me totally abreast of the progress with before and after videos. I know I have restricted myself in the past to restaurant reviews as my wife and I are foodies. But I learned there are "artists" in other fields of work as well. Swain Co and their people are one class act as ND I would hghly recommend them for any crawl space, foundation or basement issues. You won't see them advertising on TV like other companies because they don't need to. Word of mouth by previous customer service have kept them very very busy.

I had four companies come out to evaluate and the evaluations ranged from "it's seasonal I would wait and see after the ground gets rehydrates" to it is something that needs taken care of today". We chose Ohio Basement Authority because their approach was based on actual information and a bit of science. I must say they were not the least expensive of the options, in fact they were the highest. However I wanted to fix the problem and not have to worry. We were informed the wall had dropped about an inch across the 25ft length. Without going into great detail, placing piers to stabilize the wall was recommended and we agreed with the solution. The team (Bradley R. and Jacob P.) that came to do the work were knowledgeable and professional. They introduced themselves and asked if there was a problem starting early. Then they began work as soon as they could, they had to go get a smaller backhoe to fit through our gate. They kept us informed throughout the process and were respectful of the space. This is a very invasive process digging down to the bottom of the foundation. The pile of dirt was amazing as well as the trench it was extricated from, but again they attempted to keep the mess minimal (which is not possible). After completion of the pier placement they filled in the trench and leveled the massive dirt pile the best they could, we will have to wait for some settling to get a final leveling. I would definitely recommend Ohio Basement Authority from the sales team to the installers they are geat.

Now I am dealing with a huge mess in the yard and spending more money to get that fixed and on top of that, I see where they cracked the foundation/footer on the outside. Working with them was a mess. There does not seem to be a central person to answer questions. The garage never really got leveled but at least it's not supposed to sink anymore and is stable. It's supposed to be guaranteed but who knows? Don't be fooled by the ads. They make everything look nice in the ads but I still have a giant crack that's now filled with foam. I mean, it's a detached garage, but still...Do some looking around and NEVER let anyone high pressure you. Lesson learned.

It was equal bids on my project from two companies USS and Alltek. Unfortunately for me, I made the decision to go with Alltek Environmental Services company at that time. Foundation repair was finished in August 2019 by Alltek (please read my review, that I placed separately for Alltek). 48,000 dollars payment later foundation been done. I finally be able to place my house for sale this year and come to realization, after inspection is done on the house, that it is a presence of water leak in the storage area. I could not believe, how it is possible, when the foundation repair was just done 8 months ago. I guess, things were not done properly after all. After numerous attempts to contact Alltek company, I finally be able to get the response with another promise to "fix it" in the amount of $9,200 or later for free...if I take off my review of their company from homeadvisor.com. Lack of professionalism, poor craftsmanship and PR was major disappointment for me. To be honest, after I been treating inferiorly by Alltek, I did not have any desire to go back to the same company. I was looking for second opinion how to resolve these issues. I decided to reach out again United Structural (who I was hoped to remember me from last year) and explain my dilemma. Bobby K. (Sales Manager for USS -Charleston WV location) come to the rescue! He was willing to give me his unbiased opinion on the situation. Bobby K, "commander in charge", went to the house and informed me, that "downspout lines were never installed, the part on top of the ground went nowhere and tie back patch was poor quality". Simply put it, Alltek did a mediocre job. I immediately made the decision go ahead and proceed with United Structural Systems company for repair of the mistakes. I cannot say enough praise for the USS company and manager Bobby K. This re-du project was done in timely matter, communication was superior ( needless to say I live out of state and it was never an issue), area after the job was clean up to perfection and...the garage/storage area now look dry bone and beautiful. Awhhhh... maybe I should not sell my house after all?! I have a buyer on the house, and I am closing in 2 weeks and can say with all honesty, I could not do that without United Structural help. It was exceedingly difficult situation for me, and it was resolved by USS company with flying colors. Thank you again USS. I recommend you without any hesitation!!! Your company should be proud of to provide such an excellent service and have knowledgeable, competent and skillful experts. Lana Y, Rochester, NY "We are NY tough"

I cannot emphasize enough just how professional & respectful the crew was and left out basement without a sign of them being there, except for the fixed situation of course. These men were at our house in the cold of winter including one day which was below freezing. By laying plastic down on our floors, they were able to keep the dirt out and one day they literally had to heat up the rock before putting it down because it was that cold out. They did this to meet a deadline to us and we really appreciated them. They are the epitome of what customer service should be. We've had big rains since then, so we are confident that our complete needs were met. I have highly recommended them to friends. So far two friends have also used them and are as happy with their work and work ethic as we are. I will continue to recommend them to anybody who has waterproofing needs. You will never be disappointed!
