I discovered Dan & his team through a neighbor, where they'd worked quickly on several impressive projects. I had them refresh two small-ish bathrooms--replacing the vanity, faucet, mirror and light fixture in the hall bath, and retiling a shower in the primary bath, adding a dramatic-looking niche. Dan is realistic, schedule-conscious and works to exceed expectations. (They finished ahead of schedule!) He's also willing to share his opinions, but in the end, he made sure they executed what I wanted versus what they'd normally do. The team was very skilled, polite and considerate. The only downside was that his online billing system was a bit weird, but it can be over-ridden to pay the correct progress payments. He was able to match or improve upon other individual bids I got for windows, roof, pool, turf, etc. His design ideas are great. Dan is friendly and very professional. Contacted Dan because I was unsatisfied with another, bigger contracting company in Carlsbad who did our drawings and permits. A few things he does far better than any other contractors we contacted (we received quotes from several, big to small): - Dan and DMB work on smaller batches of projects at a time making you feel like the top priority. The bigger contractors made me feel like just another number in the queue. - He's has very high integrity and strong communication. If you have a problem, he hears you out on your concerns and works really hard to make it right. We chose to go with Dan because during the initial walk through he was very collaborative and creative with ideas of how to achieve what we wanted. Quality, efficiency, reliability, and communication are what I look for in a contractor. I care a lot about value and I have very high expectations for the outcome. And boy did DMB come through! Not only that, but surprisingly, they exceeded my expectations across the board and even put together my daughter's doll house birthday present to help me out! I originally met Dan to quote me on my backyard reno. I did not go with DMB for the yard and frankly that's my only regret at this point... Dan came to the house to walk through the scope of work and was incredibly helpful in terms of what to expect, how to prepare, and what I needed to do to pull everything together so they could be most effective in execution of my vision for my new home. For this first round, we did a partial kitchen, fireplace, secondary bathroom (jack & jill style) upstairs and last minute added on the powder room downstairs as well. I was quoted 3-5 weeks for the project and even with the extra work, the job was done in 5 weeks, just after Thanksgiving! Everyone I know that has construction work done complains about delays and the timeline more than anything else. I was very proud to say the timeline was definitely met and did not sacrifice quality in the least! Were there a few material delays? You bet! And some of those were 100% my fault anyway. While DMB does not offer design services, they are knowledgeable enough about design to make solid recommendations or connect you with local (free) design services along the way.
