Guys and Gals- Do not go here. This DMV is a black hole. We had an appointment for 10 AM. Reached at 8:30 AM. Counter 29. This is where our troubles started. Old lady- M. Rodriquez/ - Man slow as molasses. Lady is clueless. First said our appointment was not showing- shocked us for a few minutes, begging her and showing her our appt. confirmation. She doesn't care, says the computer does not show- calls next! Oh my god, we beg and plead her- nope she takes- 5 driving school instructors who she knows- who got the kids for driving tests.. go figure eh. We plead this old bag ( she is bound to go straight to hell- this good for nothing woman) and she says- found your appointment- the computer was slow... haha! We were like oh my god- saved. Thank you lord! Nope- the ordeal just began, Next she says well... your permit is from 2018- we need 2 proofs of ID- what? Madam we checked with DMV appt they pulled our permit and said we are good to go- she says no- go get Birth cert... and takes 4 more of her buddies- drive school instructors led kids... needless to say all these kids are previlaged and moved up in the line- cos she gets gratis and kickbacks from her instructor friends... no questions asked for them. I read some bad reviews but made an appt here anyway. While it was very hard to find parking in the lot at 3:30 pm, I only had to wait about 10 mins from my appt time to be called. Everyone who works there was very nice and the whole process of getting my drivers license went very quickly. Be sure to read the website for docs you need to bring before you go. read more

I have been dreading my dmv appointment for the past 2 months thinking it's going to take 3 hours minimum, however, believe it or not it took me less than 45 minutes from when I arrived for my 1:40 appointment to walk out he door with me liscense renewed. This is not the closest DMV to me but I took a chance because they had better appointment availability. I walked in on a weekday to a very short appointment line. I quickly got my form and ticket number. To my surprise, I was called up within 5 minutes. My title issue was not fully resolved but the employee was VERY helpful. Satan's a-hole right? Yes. This particular DMV is beyond stereotypical, and although I rated it a single star, it holds a special spot in my charcoal filtered heart. I was here on Cinco de Drinko, and what an experience it was. I was unable to make an appointment until 2 weeks out, so I decided to venture in unanounced. I ended up waiting for 3 hours(which I expected), but the story lies with the events that took place between 11 and 2. First was the security guard harassing people which was pretty much comedy until his attention was brought my way. "Sir I need you to move" is what he kept repeating to me every 2-3 minutes for over a half hour. Finally I took a single electric slide step to the left and he quit talking in my ear. Another hour goes by, and for some reason, he decided that people were no longer allowed to exit from the front entrance/exit. He stopped an old lady and said, "excuse me, but if you are leaving then you need to go to the other side." She complained, but ended up complying with his awkward request. Next guy comes through, security guard says the same thing, and the guy challenges his authority. Words transcribe back and forth, and as the man is walking away to leave, the security guard says, "get outta here ya punk ass." Man comes back ans says "what did you just say?" Security guard replies, "I know what I said, whatcha gonna do? Nothing, you aint gone do nothing, now get outta here." Man requests supervisor, and I vacate the area. Next 15-20 minutes go by flawlessly except for the fact that I'm still standing and the guy behind me is starting to have a conversation with himself that is straight out of the Shining. Then a full orchestrated Mariachi band walks in and commences playing. Trumpets and all. My number is finally called, but I can't hear a thing the lady behind the counter is saying to me because they are so loud. A live band in the middle of the work day at a gov't office in which the public is trying to take care of business. Wow. I'll spare you the rest of the details, but the least they could of done was pass around some tecate or some bud light clamato tall boys. read more

I never really post bad reviews but today my husband and I had the WORST experience at this office. The lines weren't so bad, the people who check you in are okay too, our problem began once it was our turn to speak with a dmv agent/ rep. This lady was very rude and disrespectful, we were trying to renew my husband's drivers license and we tried to explain our case to this woman.. She basically told me to shut up because she was talking to my husband not me and to mind my own business, then she proceeded and did absolutely nothing to help us, I kept silent because I didn't want to get involved or lose it and insult her (because at this point I was already really upset) her attitude towards us was not the right attitude, I've worked in the healthcare area for years and my main focus is regardless of your personal issues, always treat people with respect.. Well this time, I felt nothing but humiliated, as we were gathering our papers my husband told her that she needed to be nicer to people and she dared to talk back to him and said: "maybe next time you should be able to speak for yourself" I wasn't going to complain until I heard those words, I filled out one of those "how are we doing?" Sheets and gave it to the manager. I really hope they do something about workers like that, it's very disappointing and draining to deal with those situations on top of the inconvenience of having to renew a stolen drivers license, if there was a way to do those things online we definitely would, but unfortunately that's not possible therefore we have to go to one of these offices and do this in person. I have never been in a situations like this, I am always very polite and friendly so I have never in my life felt so disrespected and aggravated. I can't even describe how upsetting it was. Residents! Always speak up when you have an issue, don't let others put you down or disrespect you. Address it to a manager or supervisor in charge. Smile and be kind to one another. God bless. This has to be the best DMV experience I've ever had! I showed up no appointment at around 7:37am and as expected more than a few people were already in line. However it they opened promptly at 8 and the security guard did a great job organizing the line in an orderly fashion letting people in a couple a time while also escorting the people with an appointment to the right line. Once inside the lines moved at a adequate pace and the employees were all very pleasant and helpful. The many open windows and speed at which they called numbers up was was impressive as well, I sat for only about 20 minutes before being called up and presenting all my paperwork. I must admit my eyes failed me this morning during the eye exam but the employee was more than generous and kept giving me more tries than I should have taken and despite my mistakes gave me a pass on it! The rest of my time here while testing was quick and equally pleasant, Needless to say I passed my motorcycle written test but I can't help but feel like my nerves were steadied by such a calm and welcoming environment as opposed to other DMVs I've been to, I wasn't felt rushed or pressured to finished as they had ample testing stations. Even the bathrooms were clean as the rest of this facility! I cannot emphasize enough how great this place is! read more

I made an appointment to switch my registration from out of state. The man who helped me inside was very friendly and helpful and sufficient. My appointment was at 9am and I was finished with check in, waiting for my number to be called, and speaking with man at the counter/doing paperwork by 9:20. However, the VIN inspection is crazy. There is one woman conducting both inspections and drive tests. She alternated between registration inspections and the tests. I was the second in line for inspections, but still waited for her to complete 1 inspection and then an entire drive test. I had to wait for an hour outside in my car for her to return from a driving test, then conduct my inspection. There was a line of 7 or 8 drive tests so I can't imagine how long they waited. read more

Okay here is the trick: MAKE AN APPOINTMENT! I had expected a nightmare, but made an appt online ahead of time. Lines were out the door when I arrived on a Tuesday @ 1050am. But I was in and out in less than 15 minutes for a DL renewal! The clerks I had were not nasty. (wow!) Another thing to note: I'm gps-dependent, and the city of Arleta was not on there. It's Pacoima, and I didn't realize. So, had to print directions. Parking was a nightmare, but I kept a hawks eye out for anyone walking to their car, and got lucky. Something funny: there were Security Guards all over... lol.. we all know dmv's to be anger-producing... but wow! I'm just glad to have survived this every 12 year obligatory event! Ugh. read more

Unlike many other DMVs, I liked this one. I today handed over writing test for driver license the first time. People are very polite and friendly unlike other DMVs. I hope that this will always be so. But the queue is large and a lot of people, I came at 8 am and finished at 12:30. In each DMV is the same. read more

If you are renewing your DL and expect to take the written test then DO NOT make an appointment past 3:30 as in all probability you will not make it to the test which has a 4:30 deadline. That is what happened to me when my appointment was at 3:50PM By the time I made it to the test portion of the renewal it was 4:38 and they did not let me take the test. So, I had to come back a couple of days later to take the test. Since I live 15 miles away and with gas at $4/gal it is money and time lost. I had an appointment which was smart and made it through the process of renewing my DL very quick, it is a shame the 8 minutes past 4:30 and they forced me to come back again. Also, both times, I could not find parking on their lot so I had to park a block away which is OK by me but be forewarned about parking issues as well. read more

The worst service ever, I cannot even begin to explain it. The receptionists are so rude and unhelpful. They have no tolerance for simple questions and have snarky atitudes. Worst place ever so packed waited almost 2 1/2 hours to take my driving test extremely pissed off

Never thought I would ever write a positive review about a DMV, but The Arleta DMV is well organized and the employees are even friendly.

Transfer vehicle from different state - I came 45 minutes before they opened and there was already a line. A lady came out prepping each person and thank goodness she was there or else I'd be here longer. Since I needed verification, she gave me a paper to fill out and told me to take my car to the verification side. Five minutes before opening, an employee was already checking the vehicle. It's a little after eight and I'm already inside waiting to be called. Next time I'll know to come early, and I hope someone will be out there prepping customers. Great experience today read more

There was a fairly long no appointment line and a lady came outside informing people towards the end of the line that only 10 out of the 30 computers were working so it might take a long time. Some chose to leave for another DMV. I stayed because I was sick of taking the bus already...I was in and out within a little over a half an hour with no appointment and the staff were awesome. I give it 4 stars for being pretty quick if you don't schedule an appt. took me 1 hour and 40 mins to be in and out to replace my lost driver license. With an appointment online your in and out in 15-20 min max and you don't have to wait in the huge line outside. It's so terrible when it's hot and you have to stand in line they should have those mist machines like at six flags. But that's what you get when you don't schedule an appt and I knew this. Great thing is that it's quicker than the other dmvs I've been too. One cool thing they should add is an express do it yourself check out machine for specific items using finger prints to confirm identifications, but then again this will replace the employees. It's funny because Everytime I go there i always see someone that looks like someone I know or I see an old friend from high school. Oh yeah bring a pen and start filling out the basic information sheet before getting your number. They will have you fill it out before giving you a number and this will slow the line down and people will get frustrated especially since it's hot. Oh yeah FYI Once you get inside on the right there's cold air coming out the vent on the floor. read more

Had a hassle trying to do a change of title. Revoked my registration without completion of change in title. I was informed that I needed a smog check, which I was fortunate enough to get done right away but if that was they case they should have stopped the process and not revoked my registration. read more

I hate to say this but, this is mt favorite DMV. All the other ones have the shittiest and most bitchiest workers. This DMV always has lines (which DMV doesn't?). There is never parking. I showed up around 8:30 am on a Friday.. my first time here so I ask a security guard to help me and he was very nice about it even asking me if I had my form so I won't have to waste more time.. it was the bald guy and he was sweet. Even longer wait time inside the DMV, once your survive the outside line, and then finally a conversation with unpleasant DMV employees. I will add one star, because instead of usual 1 person at the initial check in they actually have 3, which speeds things a little bit. Otherwise, this location sucks just like any other DMV office in Los Angeles. Make appointment and save time. Otherwise, be prepared to waste 3 hours of your life here. And, almost forgot to add - parking is packed to the extent that I have parked on residential street a block away and walked. read more

I usually make appointments at this DMV because you can get your appointments sooner than other DMV's in the area. With my appointment I am in and out within 15 minutes. I came in to renew my registration and boy was I disappointed. I came in at 12pm and the line was very short. Regardless I still waited 3.5hrs to even be seen. I had all my paper work and cash. I was $15 short so I asked if I could pay the rest by card and I'm told no. They only take debit but I can go to the machine and pay the rest by card. So I go to the machine and wait in that line for 1hr and the aching won't take my information. I inform one of the ladies at the reception desk and she says I can't pay cuz I have a pending payment and I have to come back another day! Are you kidding me! Why was I not informed about this at the beginning when I made the cash payment! I don't mind coming back to pay off the rest but I do mind when people waste my fucking time!!! I seriously wish I could do this online but no I have to waste my entire day waiting on these people. read more

Arleta Dmv is better than the other dmv's out there although I failed 2 times here in driving test but it's okay. I understand. I am not hiding any grudge because they treated me alright unlike the winnetka dmv. Jake helped me a lot and the other people who works there the only problem is that the woman who works there needs to smile more often. She frowns and seems like she doesn't like us. but it's just what I think. but she can change it i know. People who go here needs to have an appointment so they won't need to wait for so long.
