I was very impressed when i went to the DMV. First, yes i did make an appt. but i probably didn't need it because there was not many people there and there was plenty of people there ready to help customers. I will say that i do recommend an appt for the DMV. The new DMV is well designed and roomy. It's better than the old DMV that was gloomy and no bathrooms for people. Lastly, i was in and out of the DMV in 20 minutes!!!!! So why not 5 stars? Two reasons: Granted I do not know the DMV dress code, but the employees seem to dress to casual for there job. Employees were wearing blue jeans.. and personally i kinda feel that since its professional place they should be wearing something a little nicer. The second thing, the guy that was taking pictures for drivers license that day( Jan 23) could have been nicer. I just relocated here from Washington and had to go to the DMV to get a California license. I have to say this is the nicest DMV I've ever been to. All of the staff is super friendly and I would love to give a shout out to Bob and Jerry Who helped me. They originally and made the third time of going back to get my DOT medical certificate submitted. Usually when you have to go back somewhere three times you're just annoyed and they made it refreshing as if it was the first time I had to go there. Good job for everybody at Chico highly recommend this place if you have to visit the DMV at all. I made an appointment for the first day and then the second and third time I had to return I didn't have to wait very long they're very quick and efficient and they're always willing to help you with a smile which is really really appreciated. Was informed we needed to mail our documents to Sacramento DMV for processing with no explanation. Everything was completed prior except one missing form, which we had. I applied for a drivers license renewal 3 weeks before my birthday.It is now 3 weeks after my birthday. I tried to get help online to find out what the hold up was. It kept looping back around to the same questions. I tried the chat feature. Same thing. There is no way I can reach a human being. I just want to know WHERE IS MY DRIVERS LICENSE AND WHY HASNT IT ARRIVED? I can no longer drive or do things like pick up prescriptions that need me to show a valid ID. I have no idea why, but they refuse to let me in with my mother who spoke little English. I was going there to help interpret and translate for her but I was told that I was not allowed in due to COVID. I said sure fine, just find someone who can help translate, call up someone, make it work, then I walked back into my car. Very disappointed with Chico office . They are refusing the elderly forcing them to go online to take elearning or test online. It's an option for people to take it online or at a dmv office if you are required to take a test. He has a confirmation code and paid $ online. The flyers given are given to every DMV office and it's for drivers license renewals which is correct, but it's for customers that are eligible by mail. My father did everything he was told at start here and he went home and no link came up to do elearning as an option. He went back to Chico dmv and they refused him again. Now he is stuck in limbo unable to complete his renewal online and being turned away twice at the dmv office at Chico and receiving another flyer saying to go home and do the elearning and was told he isn't allowed to process in office. . I hope headquarters is reading these comments. My father will be sending a note to the director about Chico DMV. This office seems to making their own rules. Today I was illegally refused access to this dmv. I am a disabled veteran. I served in Iraq, and lost many friends, only to be refused access to the dmv to fix an issue with my truck registration. Mathew Fitzgerald plainly stated that he can refuse service to anyone for any reason. When I said that the ADA clearly states he can't do that he walked away saying "I just did." Usually I block out a fair amount of time to go to the DMV. Today I went in because I needed to replace my ID. Between waiting in the initial line to get a number and waiting to have that number called, I sat waiting for three hours to get my picture taken and pay $35. There were four windows open. One being the drivers test window, the other three were service windows. Three windows for a packed and busy office is not acceptable. Ridiculously slow service and underfunded. Staff are friendly and helpful but don't seem in a hurry to move anything along. Paradise and other nearby locations are much faster. No one should have to wait this long for something that should take no longer than ten minutes. Complete waste of an entire morning. I will no longer be using this location. read more

I am not one for the DMV to be honest none of us really are but we got to do it. The staff was working hard and fast as they could busy office but I have never had one bad run in with these people and I have been in and out of there about 7 times within the last year dealing with divorce stuff. Yesterday I had waited about 2.5 hours due to everything going on about an hr was to get a seat inside. But to be honest I didn't mind. The workers were doing a wonderful job multitasking and being as fast as they could helping their fellow workers when they got a chance. I arrived to the DMV before opening, because since the fire a long wait is expectedly the norm. 15 or 20 people had the same idea. I gave the Chico DMV 4 stars because every person I came into contact with was lovely and helpful. All DMVs everywhere have a bad reputation and I will say that as with any DMV, don't be in a hurry. However, if I am forced to go to the DMV I want to deal with pleasant helpful people who gladly assist me in trouble shooting my DMV issues and give me little tips and pointers to improve my experience and avoid frivolous charges. I waited for 20 minutes before opening and was out of there by 8:20. I really appreciate the employees at Chico DMV. read more

I went to this dmv location on 6/6 because I had been driving my new car around for the last 10 months with no plates (they got lost in the mail & I wasn't in CA so I couldn't re register). After I paid $170. for registration, plates and tags I was given a 2 month temporary sticker instead. This is unacceptable! The 2 month sticker is passed. I was refused tags, plates, and registration in my daughters name, whom by the way is also disabled. Reasonable accommodations? Now $170. poof for nothing. DMV can just take money without an explanation and no one to answer to or be over seen by anyone...? DMV needs to be questioned as to why they take money for nothing. Talk at window #2 and get new instructions and require someone to bring additional item from across town. Talk again and be told to wait for number to be called. Number gets lost in their system, so after waiting, ask about it and get new number and wait again. Number finally gets called and now get informed that their system shows we can't get the salvage title until insurance company does something more, so we have to come back another day. Watched someone come back from what looked like a break help two people then leave for a smoke break. An alternate universe of pure and utter hell... the Chico DMV. I have had two teens get a permit here not six months apart and the process for each was totally different. Were there for hours even with an appointment. Some employees are so rude I am blown away. There is a woman with glasses and red hair that I pray to get, she still seems to have a soul. Tried to get one of my kids permits without an appointment not once but twice and literally were turned away after waiting for 3 hours to take the test, they don't do them after 4:30 so if you are there at noon you still may not make the cutoff. Literally watched an old lady crying because she had been there so long (hours and with an appointment) and was too tired to take her test! The part that baffles me is why they give numbers to people who will never get to a window by closing. If it is 4:30 and you are closing soon and there is a line of 25 people why are numbers still being given?! Bottom line make an appointment.... you will have to wait a month but if you can it is the better option no doubt. Be prepared with the documents you need and be ready because your documents needed may differ depending on who you get. There system seems really inefficient and I feel sorry for all involved, employees and every person that enters. read more

I went back today so the can fix it and got the G013 number, after 45 minutes there it was no Gs calling, so I went to the red hair dude at reception and complained, he said get an appointment. The fact that you need an appointment for hope of service is a testimony of their sloppiness. And yes, I drove to Yuba City for another business, stopped by the DMV there with no appointment, the place was buzzing with people, they gave me the G034 number and in 20 minutes I was out of there with my problem solved.
