Obviously the dmv is a place where we need to go to get certain things done. When I got there at my appointment time, a worker lady comes out and announces that they are not accepting debit/credit because their systems are down. I then asked if I can quickly go to the bank and take cash out and come back, By the way, the bank is down the street. She said you're going to have to wait in the non-appointment line when you come back, which was turning the corner. She was not accommodating at all and I ended up leaving. If you know that your systems are down, there needs to be a better communication system with people who have non-appointment and appointment times. Unacceptable. read more

Called in to make an appointment - DMV site makes it seem like you couldn't get an appointment but luckily got one for noon, so I could go on my lunch break. This DMV is probably the oldest in the valley and is in desperate need of upgrades. They do a fair job of coralling people, but it is in need of more seating. Thank God the wait AFTER receiving a number in the first line was only an hour. I went without an appointment to register my car which I forgot to do. I was two days past my due date (never again). They also have a machine for registration renewal but you can't be past your due date. Standing room only, packed in like sardines and prisoner to all of the smelly people needing baths . Because getting a seat is like owning a Bitcoin, you don't want to get up ever, until your number is called. Did I mention, they have only two screens and you can barely hear the numbers being called. It's a pretty stressful situation. So having sat for an hour before my number was called, and just finishing my coffee before getting there, I had to pee so bad. Omg the restroom was one of the most disgusting I've encountered in a long time! Urine everywhere on the floor. The fumes were vile. Felt like I was standing in an Andy Gump. I am tempted to call OSHA on them! No excuses for this when they are literally raping us in fees. Isn't this a state run facility ?? All billions you generate and you can't afford a janitor? Or proper amounts of seating ? This place needs to be shut down and remodeled. Two stars are for the nice employees . Everyone was pleasant that I encountered. So today I had gotten off work early and rushed over hoping things would go quickly, well I was right. I got to the Offi at 3:35. So first of all there were a lot of people but that is to be expected. Once I got there I went to the information center and told them I needed to renew my license and they gave me a number, I was call within 15 minutes. Deija helped me and was so sweet and quick which I appreciate because I really just wanted to get my stuff done. I was not disappointed at all. I was done with everything by 4pm . if you're latino DO NOT even think about taking your behind the wheel test here. my boyfriend took his test 3 times and failed each time and they were each with different instructors. the first time yes it was his mistake and he learned from it. the second time he did absolutely everything right until someone RAN in front of the car , the person came out of nowhere and of course my boyfriends reaction was to slam the breaks instead of hit him OBVIOUSLY but the instructor failed him because "he was supposed to see him and reacted poorly" like what ?? what else was he supposed to do?? third time he was coming out of a neighborhood onto a main street (which sooo many cars park on main streets and it's hard to see the oncoming traffic) and he slightly stopped over the line at the stop sign SO HE COULD SEE ONCOMING TRAFFIC instead of guessing and making his turn. the instructor failed him for that. it's like she wanted him to guess and crash??? the instructors are very unfair and racist. he is not the only latino we know that has always failed at this location. read more

He saw that I was having difficulties understanding him and instead of trying to help me, he told me "alright you already got two fails". Unethical, immoral, and culturally bias here: Yesterday-on 02/28/23 around 3:20pm-my little sister came to take her driving test. My little sister turned 18 last year December, so she is still innocent and just a studious individual. My sister was cruelly spoken down to and yelled at (verbally abused) by the driving instructor here named Sean. This guy Sean yelled at my sister, while my sister was driving: despite of the fact that there were no cars in any lane, no sign of danger in sight, and there was basically no incoming traffic. So Sean, just because my sister is Hispanic it does not give you the right to speak to her in the aggressive way you did. All of my family drive and we have all had our driving test years ago- and not one of us have been spoken to in the manner you did to my sister. My little sister was so traumatized in the way you spoke to her, that she was even shaking in the parking lot, and crying her eyes out. What is the matter with you Sean? Have you no decency to morally speak to a young girl? Despite of the fact Sean that you have been doing your job for years- does not give you the right to take advantage of your position and cruelly speak to a young girl that way. You do know that if you scream at someone and make them doubt themselves- "you will obviously cause them to lose concentration and make them fail"? Perhaps that was your objective, Sean? You see, if you have been doing your job for 15 years: you do know that yelling at someone at the top of your lungs is harassment under "California State Law." We spoke to the manager here named Claudia. I hope she speaks to "Sean" about his demeanor. About my little sister, she is a kid who is in the ivy program at her school in Granada hills charter high school, and she is not the type to cry easily. She has one of the most advanced classes in her school. I understand Claudia what you said about my sister needing to be callous when it comes to feedback. But please, I hope you understand that my sister doesn't easily cry- her classes are very advanced in her school. All my sister does is study, and she is very disciplined in all that she does. So please please know: this is not just about the driving test. This is about the way Sean treated my sister. It seemed culturally racist, discriminatory, sexist, and reverse ageism. Needed to get my Driver's License Knowledge Test taken and my license renewed and I needed Saturday hours. Hence, I came to the Van Nuys location for DMV. Wheww I am glad that is over! The office opens at 8:00 AM, I got here at 8:00 AM and the line was already around the outside of the building on a rainy day. They were pretty efficient about getting everyone processed. The place was clean and for the most part the staff were all helpful and courteous. I'll get back the specifics on two a few people. The test, however, was a little tricky. I passed but there were a few questions that I had to pause over and think...My recommendation is to really study the Handbook and not merely the practice exams. The actual test will pull from the handbook and have questions that were not on any practice exam. Now as I stated the people, for the most were great and very helpful. My only issue is with one of them, that was inside of the testing area maybe acting as a moderator a large cave-man looking dude. He was very curt, rude, and unnecessarily a smart ass. read more

Think Disney line from hell meets camping trip. I'm assuming you've checked that you can't do what you need to do online. A guy in line told me it took 2 days and several calls to make an appointment. After having a near mental breakdown my first time this is what I corrected my second time. ---- no wifi service for some reason made me feel like I was apart of a government science experiment. *Expect 3-4 hours - I got there at 9:30 and left at 1pm on a Friday. Pack- coffee, water, snacks (or a meal), computer, 2 back up battery chargers, headphones and sunscreen. Pack things you've meaning to do but just haven't found the time, like untangling cords or writing thank you notes. Wear- clothes for both hot and cold weather that can be taken on and off as you go through the line. It was 50 degrees in the shade and 80 in the sun, and you will be in direct sun. Wear clothes so that you can sit down and stand up comfortably. Wear headphones put on classical music so that people wont bug you. Buy a skyroam, pay $9 for internet ( I could not get internet from my phone, imagine 4 hours of no wifi ) Yes. that is the appointment line. Yes, you have to wait in the regular line with everyone else. No, she won't be right back even tho that's what she said. Yes, I wrote this in line. They give you a piece of colored paper before seeing the window so there's no cutting in line, don't try, they've heard it. Good luck! read more

This is a free-for-all in Covid times. Neither security or staff ensure distancing, and apparently masks are worn around the chin here. Whatever, I gotta go so I'll do my best, right? I get here at opening (8) and there's already a massive line. For the next 7 hours I stood in line with the hot sun beating down on me, waiting for my turn. 2 little canopies that 8 or so people could be under at a time was our only respite. No water. Now burnt to a crisp, at3:30 they announce to those of us STILL not inside, that there's no more room. Try again tomorrow. No numbers, no apologies. They let people continue to line up until the announcement--some elderly. The employee's explanation? We were all told everyone might not make it inside. That's BS. The only time we ever heard that was from someone else in line who told us this in our home stretch. I honestly didn't believe her until it happened. Awful in communication and in Covid sanitary safety practices. This sounds like a zero star review if it were possible, but I did want to shout out the security man who, though he didn't enforce masks or distance, did check in on all the elderly who weren't doing well in this hot mess.
