I've been seeing Dr Lee for almost 8 years. She's my 2nd endocrinologist, after having a horrible experience with my first. She was able to bring my TSH level down to normal and now I only see her once a year (I started out at several times a year). Her office staff is nice and helpful with setting up appts. I feel bad that her reviews are so low because my experience with Dr. Lee has been positive. I saw her to rule out endocrine causes of my ongoing, unexplained weight loss after GI tests weren't identifying the cause. She's very nice, smart, empathetic, and thorough. Not only is she smart but she also treats her patients as smart. When she told me about a condition that I hadn't heard about, she said, "you're premed, you can read about it". As someone who reads about medical conditions online as an aspiring doctor, I love when doctors encourage their patients to learn about their condition rather than get offended. A lot of the labs she ordered were ones and possible causes of my weight loss she came up with hasn't been ordered or considered by previous doctors. After multiple imaging studies (ultrasounds, CT, MRIs) failed to show causes of my weight loss, she recommended I consider a PET scan. Finally, she's not afraid to be honest and admit she doesn't know something. When I asked her what her thoughts were about switching to an antidepressant that has weight gain as a side effect, she wasn't shy about saying she wasn't familiar with it (and antidepressants in general) and it may not address the cause. Even though Dr. Lee hasn't been able to identify an endocrine cause of my weight loss, she still likes when I send her the results of the tests my PCP orders. I love that she wants to know what's going on with me medically even if she isn't the one ordering the tests. Unlike other reviewers, I've never been overcharged or had issues with the staff. If I need to see an endocrinologist in the future, I will definitely go back to her! read more

I see Dr Lee and her PA Joseph Karpel in their Walnut Creek office and have been very happy with the care provided (for nearly a year now) they are both very thorough and have listened carefully to my concerns and responded accordingly. They split time in Napa and Walnut Creek offices, but this hasn't been an issue for me as I have found they are responsive when I have needed to contact them via portal messages as well as by voicemail when I have called at the office for any reason. I would recommend their practice for anyone looking for an endocrinologist capable of handling thyroid issues, weight management or any number of other potentially challenging concerns appropriate for this type of medical practice. read more

I truly love this Doctor! She is so very conscientious and thorough, takes time to ask about other aspects of your physical life. Your exercise level, diet, smoking, drinking etc. She also checks on all your current medications and takes it all into account for your health care. Dr. Lee was the first doctor to actually look into my condition and get me real answers. She has worked with me to find ways to better manage my symptoms and improve my overall health. I haven't had test results as good as these since I was 12 years old and I give much of the credit for that to Dr. Do-Eun Lee for helping me find answers. She is very kind while remaining direct. Dr. Lee is wonderful doctor. However, her staff tend to double charge and not even bother to bill ins. Needless to say, I have to take the time to call them with the insurance info and update them on what is current and how things should be charged. Now they wont return phone calls or answer during business hours. Recently, her office requested I pay 30.00 for a prescription that needed prior authorization, They assured me that her office doesn't get the money and it goes to ins. I called my insurance to follow up and was told they have never heard of such a thing nor do they charge for prior authorization. read more

I got violently sick on an injection I was given in Dr. Lee's office for diabetics. I am not diabetic or hypertensive, but I am overweight. I do take a blood pressure pill to prevent migraines but I am not hypertensive. The shot made me sick for days. She then gave me a diet pill, when I went on line to check it out, Contrave had antidepressants. This is not available at my pharmacy, I have bad reactions to antidepressants and can't even handle the smallest amounts. My pharmacy would have caught this. We had an issue with my Blue Shield of CA insurance. Dr. Lee's office said they took it My insurance said after second visit, they were taken off the list. Dr. Lee assured me it was a mistake. I cancelled an apt with a new doc on the plan, because I was informed things were worked out. I came in and they didn't take a copay. I then was charged for the full amount. I called Blue Shield, they said Dr. Lee was paid In Network rates and couldn't charge me, but they kept doing so. Ginger finally returned my call, after four messages and said, they never said that Blue Shield was mistaken and Dr. Lee never called me from her car phone to say she had two accounts and maybe things got switched. I must have dreamt that. She said it was my fault I didn't listen to my insurance company, and cancelled my appointment with a new doctor. She is right, that was my mistake.I shouldn't have trusted Dr. Lee's office and ignored my insurance. I won't make that mistake twice. I now won't believe a word. read more

Dr. Do-Eun Lee had great bedside manner and really comforting when I had to get a bunch of lab work done to pinpoint the cause of my health issues. She submitted the lab requests and was quick to respond with the results. read more

I never met Dr. Lee but given my interaction with her receptionist and nurse, and how angry I became, I do not want to. Disrespect for and rudeness toward a patient does not speak well for the way Dr. Lee runs her office and thus the way she may treat me as a patient. On July 11, I arrived at 11:05 am -- 5 minutes late. I waited 20, 30, 40 minutes, asking for updates on when I would see the doctor. The receptionist was sullen and dismissive. She eventually asked Dr. Lee's nurse about the delay (who hadn't been forthcoming until I started getting angry). Nurse said it was an emergency with a doctor who had come in while I was waiting. I can understand that, but it would have been a courtesy to explain that to me. I was then told it would be another 20 minutes. I was so angry by then, I walked out. Time: 12:30 pm. I've seen a trend in healthcare to be more considerate of waiting time for patients to see the doctor. Sticking to a well planned schedule and, if not possible, giving reasons for the wait -- just basic courtesy. Evidently Dr. Lee and her staff haven't received "the memo." read more

I was literally just about to post this review when I had a call from Dr lee. Clearly she is uncomfortable with how she handled the situation today... the story follows. In the short phone call just now she did not apologize but rather offered to defend what had happened saying if she had kept the appointment with me she would've had some sort of emergency or catastrophe because she would've been stuck in traffic for an hour and a half. Ridiculous to the point of absurdity. I'm sure that will be her response when she replies to my review below. Her reviews are mixed and I am not the first person to have had a difficult experience with her. It's always interesting when a few five star reviews follow a few really negative reviews. You figure it out. This is all the time and energy I'm going to put into this. Don't expect any response from me to whatever reply she comes up with. Just had my third and final appointment with Dr Lee. She has previously been prompt and efficient. Not a warm bedside manner but I don't really need that. Today I drove 45 minutes from Sonoma Valley to an appointment I've waited two weeks for. When I knew I'd be FIVE minutes late...I called ahead just to be polite (who does that?) and was told "no problem". I was standing in front of the receptionist exactly SEVEN after my appointment time of 2:15 PM. She gave me an uncomfortable look and said, "we have to reschedule your appointment". I said, "you've got to be kidding". The receptionist walked back to talk to the doctor again and I could hear the doctor say "reschedule her". I left in utter amazement after saying to the embarrassed receptionist that "I will find another doctor". And then, walking to my car and I see the doctor sneaking out the back door with her coat on and her purse and a briefcase getting into her Mercedes in the parking lot. This could not be more than 45 seconds after I left the receptionist. So basically I'm guessing she was already planning to leave when I was one minute late. I walked up to her and asked her if she was going to do holiday shopping instead of seeing me because I was five minutes late. I also said that "I called ahead to tell your office I'd be five minutes late". She looked shaken and nervous and said...."I'm going to spend an hour and a half in traffic because you were late... I can set up a telephone call for you". I said "no, you're fired and you're a bad doctor". I also told her I would be leaving her a bad review which I am doing here. Absolutely bizarre experience. You're reading this because you need an endocrinologist. If you want compassion or even just plain professionalism keep looking. If you want arrogance and insensitivity, by all means see Dr Lee...(do keep an eye on how she reads your blood tests...that five minutes late equals an hour and a half inconvenience for her is an alarming equation.) read more

Being an insulin dependent Type 2 (adult-onset) diabetic on an insulin pump, it is crucial for me to have a highly competent endocrinologist. When my long-term endocrinologist retired, he highly recommended Dr. Lee. Dr. Lee has exceeded my expectations in almost every area. The Pros: With the medication and procedure changes that Dr. Lee recommended, my diabetes control has improved. My other specialists concurred with Dr. Lee's medication changes. She knew the details of how to set and manipulate my insulin pump. There are many pumps on the market and mine is not the most common. The process is complicated and has a long learning curve. I was impressed. Dr. Lee is highly knowledgeable. At my request she provided information on a very long medical journal article on a 7000 patient study. When I asked questions on a buried table in an even longer appendix, she had the answers off the top of her head. Other Yelp reviewers had complaints about Dr. Lee and her staff. My experience has been different. I found the staff polite and very helpful. A Con: Most of my other physicians use the electronic medical records system called Epic. Epic's data Is available to physicians from different medical institutions, for example Sutter, Stanford and U.C. Davis. Dr. Lee uses a different electronic medical system where the data such as physician's notes does not interchange with Epic. My other physicians cannot access Dr. Lee's online records. Despite the electronic medical records issue, I gave Dr. Lee 5 starts as it is difficult to find excellent endocrinologists. Dr. Lee is one. read more

I've seen Dr Lee for a few years now after struggling for years with Doctors in the Kaiser network. Dr. Lee cares deeply for people and is one of the few endocrinologists out there that seems to really listens to patients. After reading a few of the bad reviews here I had to post a review that hopefully others will consider. If you have struggled with getting an appointment with her, consider the fact how difficult it can be to find a good Doctor in today's healthcare system. They are a small practice with high demand. Endocrinology is not a quick fix practice and if you are looking for that then you might not have the patience to do what is necessary for her to help you. Be patient and take the time to work with her in your long-term health. Personally I would give Dr. Lee 10 Stars if I could.. Her support helped turn around my life from a path towards Type 2 Diabetes, and probably divorce, to being an active healthy father and having the energy to foster even greater success in my career. read more
