I had such a blast! I always wanted to do a paint and sip, but always was nervous about my painting…read moreskills. I did the Moonlight Flight class which was so fun! The teacher, Alexander, was so kind and very thorough in his teaching, which made it easy for me to follow along :) Any questions I had or anytime I needed suggestions, he was immediately there to help. I also appreciated his efforts in letting everyone express themselves and not having to follow the class exactly, but more about having fun! I thought everyone working was kind (big thanks to the owner as well!!) and I am definitely coming back to paint more! This location is really spacious with different rooms for different experiences, with lots of great drink options (including THC/CBD options for non-drinkers like me who still like to have some fun). I thought the price was really fair considering you get to take a beautiful painting home after being taught in a prompt two hours (wish it could've been longer since I had so much fun). Definitely look for glow in the dark classes too, that was definitely a really cute touch!!

The class is slow paced, and I love that they have someone demonstrating on their own paintings so you can see exactly what they're doing step by step. Instructor was very nice and helpful too. Drinks were actually soo good and very affordable! Overall, I had such a good time and it was a great night out. I'll definitely be back!

This was the first time that we visited the Elmhurst Art Museum.  Our daughter was invited to…read morepreview the exhibition "Picasso: Fifty Years Later" before it opened to the public, Hubby and I were her guests.  The exhibition focuses more on the influence of Picasso fifty years after his death.  So, other than some nice prints from Picasso, there was artwork from his colleagues and contemporary artists as well.  Interestingly, some of the work from other artists might appear to be even more "Picassoesque" than Picasso's work in this exhibit.  All in all, it was a good show and professionally done.   We met the Executive Director John McKinnon as soon as we entered the museum, who was very friendly and professional, and enthusiastically gave us a brief introduction of the exhibition.  John was also the co-curator of the show.  Katie, the publicist of the museum, was also very friendly and welcoming.  She talked about how proud the artists must have been to be able to have artwork exhibited alongside Picasso's art, and that the Director John even improved the air system in order to meet the requirements of the lenders of the Picasso collection!  I like that both John and Katie are very passionate, enthusiastic, and professional about what they do!   The museum itself is rather small.  It's very clean with professional setup.  It would have been nice if the rest of the museum was opened to explore when we visited on the preview day.  However, nothing was opened except for the Picasso exhibit, even the small gift shop was closed.  There is a sculpture named Skycube in the museum courtyard that is worth visiting.  It is a great spot to take interesting selfie.  All in all, Elmhurst Art Museum provides a good opportunity for art museum-goers in the suburbs to visit without driving all the way to the city, and you don't need to worry about parking, as it provides ample free parking as well!

Hope to come back one day and see more.

Lo and behold, I saw a Facebook event at Hamburger Mary's hosted by Studio 928 and knew I found my perfect match! The events are themed like no other I have ever seen: Prince, Whitney, Michael Jackson, etc. and I had to try it! Now yes, I am an artistic person : I took 4 years of art in high school and 1 in college. But that was a LONG time ago. And my strong areas were abstract, layout, airbrushing, etc NOT people,(and I really didn't do a lot of work with acrylic paint) so I knew it would be a challenge for me in that sense. But I wasn't going to be perfect, I was going for fun and a new experience. And that is exactly what I got! Cheryl is a blast! She has a fun personality and is SO knowledgeable , patient and helpful You are not going in just to paint, you are going in to learn. She shows you how to mix colours, how to do shading, how to work with the paints, etc. and is always going to each person helping them out, giving suggestions, etc And in between instructions, she's telling jokes, asking trivia questions and giving away prizes. She completely set the bar for me for paint parties and not only am I glad that my first experience with one was with her, I don't even want to go to any others! If you think that you cannot paint or are not artistic, you will completely surprise yourself with what you can do. Cheryl has a way of bringing out the artist in everyone! I had so much fun at my first party that as soon as I got home, I set up an event set up for the gym that I go. We had it today and everyone had a blast! I HIGHLY recommend Studio 928 for ANY occasion and just for a fun afternoon. Check out their website and get yourself signed up for an event! You will not regret it!

I had been saving up a visit to this art store as a treat to myself, because as an artist, to finally find an art store near home (La Grange), well, let's just say I was excited to find a local business with which to spend my money. With Blicks more than 15 miles away, I thought I'd hit the jackpot. WRONG. I walk in and was accosted by the owner. Maryann: "What's up"? Can you imagine my face? Imagine, shock, amazement...stopped in my tracks. Who greets a customer like this? Furthermore, do I know you? That you feel you can dismissively ask me, "what's up"? As if I'm interrupting you. OK, you know I'm thinking happy, happy--joy, joy when I arrived and she just BLEW THAT FEELING the moment I walked in the door! Me: (trying to recover and remember why I came) I'm looking for some art paper. Maryann: Bristol board? Me: Yes. But in tan or grey or brown. Maryann: That's not Bristol board. Me: (Thinking....ok.....so, what do you have?) The whole time, I'm still standing by the door because basically, she's working on framing (because I guess that's her bread and butter). And her back is to me. So I try again to explain what I want because she literally hasn't welcomed me or invited me to browse her store. And maybe I'm still a little in shock, so my feet are stuck. LOL But I'm looking around and I see mostly FRAMES. About 1/5 of the store is art supplies. When she finally decides to show me what paper she has, its in a cube, low on the floor. Each bundle wrapped in some old yellowed plastic with handwritten prices. So she points to the floor and says, this is what I have you can look through it. And she walks away. OK......So I get down on my knees and start looking. First trying to lift each packet of 24x28 paper, then deciding that's not going to work, and I don't want to ruin any paper. So, I bring out each packet, look at it, stack it beside me and go to the next one. Next thing I know, she's back again, standing 4 feet away asking, "Can I help you"? (asked in a way that I knew she meant the exact opposite) I look up at her thinking, wtf? But I say, "in what way"? She hesitates and then.... Maryann: Well, I'm pretty sure I don't have what you want. I'm thinking, wait a minute, what? Who says that to a customer? So, needless to say, I'm DONE with this whole scene, so I start putting the stuff back. Maryann: I'll put it back. Me: No I'll do it. Maryann: No, because you're putting it in wrong, the prices have to face out. I almost just threw the paper willy-nilly across the floor, but I didn't. I turned the blasted paper around so the prices faced out. So basically, she just came out from whatever the hell she was doing (instead of serving her ONE customer) to interfere with me going through her old ass paper because she didn't want the task of having to return it to its bin! When I was done, I started to say, "Wow, I'm really disappointed in my experience here". But I didn't get to finish because Miss Maryann said, "Well, I don't get a lot of requests for brown paper". That was it, I was out! OMG, this woman and her attitude! It's absolutely no surprise to me that her store was absolutely EMPTY. Typically my fellow creatives are friendly, curious and some may be introverted, but they're polite. Not this one. ARTISTS stay away from this hole in the wall. Pull up your big girl panties or jockeys and drive out to Blick's, Michaels or even Joann's Fabrics where customers are #1. Concordia University Chicago art department, this place is a big NO!
