When I saw the Oakbrook Center mall directory, I was stoked to see Paper Source and that it was open until 9pm on a Monday evening. I naturally had to come in to check out the selection. It's dangerously addicting and it was hard to control myself from wanting to take the store with me. I came in wanting to see what I can get last minute for others but ended up spoiling myself -- self care, right. I found a cute journal that's good for up to 3 years, and it's a daily question you answer about self care which I think is truly necessary in these trying times. I can use some daily affirmations, and then I found these cute narwhal pens so I had to get them too. The staff were friendly and available as needed. I love that I wasn't upsold anything, I wasn't followed around, and I was given the space to do my thing. When I had questions the two ladies were more than happy to assist me, though they couldn't find an item I was looking for, I still appreciate their efforts and how they worked together. It's one of the better experiences I've had in person at Paper Source. I also wasn't pressured to sign up for anything. I do have to say that the Paper Source location I've been to in Chicago's Lincoln Park neighborhood does have a bigger selection than this one. However, the brand and this location is still pretty consistent, it just doesn't have everything and if they do it's in smaller quantities. I do recommend this location to anyone in the area looking for stationery items, greeting cards etc.

I'm 60, a painter with a BFA from SAIC, have been an artist for 40+ years. I came to this store to…read morere-up my entire palette of Golden fluid acrylics and maybe pick up some of the new OPEN acrylics while I was at it. We were first stopped just inside the door by one friendly associate who welcomed/greeted us and recited a long menu of store specials and their back to school sale, and if we need help she's right over there at the counter for us. We were like, ok, got it, thanks! I knew what I needed and just wanted to see the colors I was buying in person, so I start shopping. Less than a minute later here's another associate, another WELCOME here's ALL our sales and our BACK TO SCHOOL SALE and if you need ANYTHING we're right over HERE by the counter! Okay, I said, thank you, that's great. I smiled and again I tried to start shopping. Another thirty seconds and here's another associate who gives me, AGAIN, the welcome/sales sales sales/we're over HERE by the cash register if you need anything! (Where ELSE am I going to go look for assistance? The deli next door at Whole Foods?) Unable to concentrate on selecting my paints, I went to give my husband the three things I had managed to pick up and was stopped by another associate who gave us both the same sales speech AGAIN. It was as though the entire shift was actively preventing me from finding the materials I was there, cash in pocket, struggling to buy. Yes, I did start getting terse and snippy when I was just repeatedly approached with the very same canned spam sales pitch by multiple ridiculously aggressive associates, because it was incredibly annoying. Maybe they thought I was shoplifting? One associate who had already given us the sales speech and apparently taken offense at my manner then approached me when I was by myself (of course) still trying to look at the Goldens. In a voice dripping with contempt, they slowly and deliberately gave me the same speech yet again. That's not creepy or confrontational, is it. Refusing to make eye contact with them, I squinted at the tube in my hands and said again, great, thanks, got it. We were in the store for maybe five minutes, seriously, for all of that. The contemptuous confrontational person came to the door while I was outside waiting for my husband, and stood with phone in hand, watching me with a little smile, seemingly texting. So on top of all that I'm sure I'm the new Karen on some sad social media site somewhere. And then we drove to the Schaumburg Blick, which is awesome with associates who are allowed to speak normally to customers and let them shop, and I bought all the rest of my paint there.

Still a great store, but uh. Guys, update your voicemail! "As we head into Covid lockdown..." Not…read moretimely!

Whether you are a hobbyist or full-time professional Midwest Magic has all your needs. The latest…read moreand greatest effects are always there to be seen. Tim, the shops owner, has a vast knowledge of all things Magic. If you're anywhere near the area be sure to stop here in person otherwise you can shop online. Highly recommend!

They may have a lot of products but man does this place have some horrible customer service. Very…read moredisorganized, the owner doesn't seem to know where his stuff is and blames it on his staff. Never seen anyone else working there but whatever. I call and ask if they have a specific magic trick. The guy says they have it, so I drive on over. When I get there, he can't find it so he passes me a "similar" trick and says it's better. I decide to trust the guy and buy a couple more things. I try working the trick at home and realize it's super angle sensitive and the written instructions didn't help much. I decide to go back and get the Instructional DVD. I go back in and the guy spends half an hour with this other guy without asking if I need help. The other guy says to the owner that he can go ahead and assist the other gentleman. (Me) and the owner makes some offhand comment "oh he's not a gentleman" and proceeds to make other lame crappy jokes. Once he's finally done and tries to help me find the dvd, he can't find it, even though it's listed on their site. So I tell him how the written instructions aren't helpful. He basically tells me to go look online (which I've already done). There's nowhere else I could find it. So I ask about their return policy. "There isn't any" he says. Well I wish I knew that before I trusted this guy. So I'm about to leave and suddenly the guy finds it. I'm glad I didn't go there for nothing but then-- Here's the kicker. The guy decides to ILLEGALLY rip the DVD. He opens up the plastic, takes out the DVD and proceeds to rip it. I'm thinking-- how can this guy do that? Once it's done he gives me the DVD back and proceeds to play his ripped copy and walks to the back. So after all this I'm kind of annoyed and want to leave so I walk to the back and tell him I have to get going. He prices me out and I ask if he can give me a break on the price, since he now has a copy. This guy gets pissed off, snatched it out of my hand and says "Nah you don't need it" and puts it back. Well I'm not trying to waste an hour and a half so I tell him fine, I'll still buy it at full price. Which is ridiculous because he literally opened the packaging of the DVD and illegally ripped it. I purchase it and leave. This guy is shady and kind of a major jerk. I'm glad I didn't spend a ton of money here. Which I would have done in the future if he wasn't so rude. Not coming back. Save yourself some time and money and go elsewhere. Magic Inc is much better and so are some online sites.
