A true Yooper knows an authentic pastie when they see one. Dobbers has the real thing. Made with quality ingredients, they have been making these little meat pies for nearly 40 years. Pasties were introduced to the UP in the 1800s, and Dobbers honors the tradition of pastie making by closely following the original recipe. Over the years they have expanded their menu to include specialty pasties such as the breakfast pastie, ham and cheese pastie, and even a pizza pastie. I got an authentic beef pastie. This has perfectly seasoned beef, potatoes, and rutabega wrapped up in a golden brown crust. If you want gravy, forget it. They only serve the pastie the way it was originally intended, wrapped in paper so it can be tossed in a lunchbox and brought yo work. The pasties were dry. They were sitting on top of the oven in aluminum foil. When I got there, they gave me two of them . They were way overdone. I will never go back there. I'll tell everybody not to go there cause they're terrible. read more

Love the U. P. The woman in there ran the whole joint. We went up the road a bit and it was drive through only. We wanted to eat inside so we went back down road. The Pasties need a bit more meat. But they are good and hot. The crust is crunchy and just a bit o ketchup and we're good to go. Hot sauce, like Franks or Cholula would be a good addition to the restaurant. read more

There's clearly a lot of hate toward Dobber's from other pasty makers around the U.P. It's unfortunate. No, Dobber's doesn't have the best pasties, but they're always open unlikely most other shops in the U.P., especially on US-2. In addition to being open in the winter, the shop is open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. You can't beat that. I've had Dobber's on numerous occasions and they usually scratch my itch. The crust is fine and the insides are fine, nothing outstanding, but they taste like pasties. And in the dead of winter when no one else is open, that's all I want. read more

On the pastie scale these were a solid 1 out of 10. No carrots or rutabaga, only unseasoned ground beef and potatoes. Not much taste and mushy - like they were several days old and previously frozen. The dough on my wife's wasn't fully cooked...ie - raw - in places. Not sure how they accomplished uncooked, mushy and days old at the same time... read more

Years ago my husband had a breakfast pasty from Dobber's. He has always wanted another. We stopped yesterday The pasty was $6.00 and was not worth the money spent. It was small, flat and the filling was a mushy mess. I took one bite. It had an odd taste. A spice perhaps Both my husband and I agreed it was absolutely awful. I visited this place back in August to bring home some pasties to freeze for the cold winter nights to come. Usually I buy my pasties at Pasty Corner in Iron River, but I thought I'd give this place a try for the first time. Located down the main stretch of US-2 in the heart of Iron Mountain, Dobber's has been around for a long time. For the uninitiated, pasties (pronounced pass-tees) are like calzones in appearance. Inside they are usually filled with potatoes, meat, or vegtetables. There's also more adventurous flavors like pizza pasties, which are among my favorites. While it's a fast food pasty restaurant inside, they also sell pasties to take out for the touristty people like myself who stop by. I liked that they had all their pasty varieties in stock all the time instead of revolving daily specials like at Pasty Corner, where you have to buy certain pasties only on a particular day of the week. I stocked up on both pizza and regular pasties and with the cold days upon us, I finally opened one up to heat in the oven. After unwrapping it from the freezer-proof bag, its appearance was... underwhelming. I'm used to the big, solid jam-packed pasties from Pasty Corner. Dobber's are not just smaller, they are also underfilled. After heating, it literally came out like a collapsed balloon rather than a plump pasty I'm used to seeing. Very disappointing to say the least. Next year I'll be going back to Pasty Corner. Dobber's falls short of my expectations. read more

We stumbled on Dobber's passing through town. The clerk recommended the ham and cheese. It was excellent. The crust was crisp and obviously individually made. The potato, ham and cheese filling was piping hot, not greasy at all and well seasoned. Ask for a recommendation! read more

I ordered Pasties online to be delivered. They arrived room temperature and had almost certainty spoiled. I emailed them about it and they said they would send me a new order. Once I could no longer do a credit card charge back they stopped responding and never sent me a new order. read more

This is not a place to go to when trying to experience what a REAL pasty is. Besides the name, there really is no similarity to theirs and a traditional pasty. Lots and lots of ketchup will cover up the taste. read more

DON'T GO HERE YOUR HEALTH IS AT RISK! Went through the drive through last night to get two beef pasties. Got home, sat down with my husband and started to dig in with our forks. When we opened the pasties the meat was COMPLETELY pink on the inside. Did not looked cooked at all. Called up and the girl working who told me to just put them in the oven for a while. NOT why I came through the drive-thru. Put them in the oven to make it worth something and they just never seemed to cook and my appetite had completely vanished. If we had not noticed the meat and just dug in as normal, I could have gotten very very sick, which did not seem to concern the employee working. Either way if you are in Iron Mountain and want a pastie go to Pasty Oven or Jean Kay's downtown, don't go to Dobbers. read more

I'm sorry. I went to 5 different locations and this was by far the worst. Very friendly service and fast. But the food was a disappointment. Soggy crust it was cold in weird points like it had been microwaved. I still want to try the breakfast pasty. Here's hoping. read more

I went here on my pasty tasting tour of the yooper and was surely disappointed. The bland filling of the traditional pasty was paired with the tasteless crust. Dobbers just doesn't compare to the better Pasties served at Lawrys or Pasty Oven. read more

We've eaten at Dobber's a few times (both Escanaba and Iron Mountain). The places were clean. However, the food was not so great. Didn't taste fresh or anything. We probably won't be coming back. My 93 dad is a former Yooper and he had less than kind words (most can't be printed here) to say about the "tasteless food." read more
