For breakfast, they have terribly watery coffee and no options for egg white omelet. They only have egg beater omelet!

Ho. Lee. Cow! We stopped in for dinner, expecting to get burgers, and were surprised to see that…read morethey offered a Friday fish fry! There were several options to choose from, but hubs and I both chose the combo, which was cod and perch. It came with tartar sauce, slaw, a slice of rye bread, baked bean medley, and your choice of potato. We went with fries. We both got beer cheese, and I got ranch as well (extra charge for both). I went with a coke and then a Dr. Pepper, as I needed the caffeine pick-me-up, and hubs started with a beer flight, and then had a pint. The fish was cooked perfectly. The breading was that golden, bubbly cover, versus typical breading. We were both given three pieces of each. The tartar sauce was very tangy, and I had to go easy with it. Hubs ate the slaw, and the rye bread was nothing special. The fries were spot on....somewhere between a straight cut and a steak fry, they were crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. The ranch was delicious, and the beer cheese was a bit strong, but in a good way, with a slight beer aftertaste. Neither of us could finish it all, so we left with a container of leftovers. If you're in this part of the U.P. and want a great fish fry. Solberg's is your place! I look forward to a repeat visit! 17/2025

Our 4th pasty in our quest to compare and consume…read more Jean Kay's is a teeny tiny shop on a side street and can barely hold 6 people in front of the register. There are a few more options for pasties here, including chicken and broccoli, and dessert flavors. Their beef pasty is different than all the other pasties we tried, as they use flank steak. As is traditional, potatoes, onions, and rutabaga were the other ingredients. This was the first pasty I tried where I could see the onions, so I picked them out when I came across them (my kryptonite). The steak was a little chewy, and the seasoning was almost undetectable. Also, the pastry, although well baked, fell apart after a few bites. To be fair, though, we waited probably a good 30-45 minutes to eat it. This wasn't my favorite pasty, but I wouldn't mind returning to try a chicken and broccoli and a dessert one. Maybe on my next trip up north. 21/2025

My grandmother taught me to make pasties like she did for her dad. Jean Kay's pasties are out of this world. Flakey crusts, tasty ingredients inside, and made with Iron Mountain pride and love. I ate the breakfast bacon and egg pasty and bought chicken and broccoli. I bought the partially cooked/frozen because this place sells out quickly. I traveled to Chicago with the pasties two weeks later and they were as good as made that day. One pastie fed two of us. I guess it is all about your appetite. The pasties can be purchased cooked or partially frozen. Both are equally great!! If you are driving near Iron Mountain, you must stop and purchase the pasties! Have fun deciding which to purchase.

We weren't very hungry, but even if we were, what we ordered would have filled us both. Each had a very hot bowl of French Onion Soup which was delicious. It was full- bodied, not overly salty, with a nice bread covered with very bubbly, browned cheese overall. We also split a Black and Blue Gorgonzola Cranberry salad in which the good-sized piece of steak was nicely charred, and tender, and the greens fresh and plentiful as was the cheese crumbles and bacon. What really made it delicious was the absolutely delicious balsamic vinaigrette (maybe the best I've ever had and that's saying a lot because I am a salad fanatic)! The waitress was very nice (though the other woman wasn't so friendly). The only thing that wasn't great the ambiance. The ceiling is so high and there was a table of four women who were so loud it was hard to have a conversation at our table of two, and no one else in the restaurant. The walls are very bare and the tables look like they were haphazardly arranged. But who cares much when the food is so good, and the prices exactly reasonable!.

It was probably about another 10 minutes before she came and took my order! I ordered their 8oz burger, medium rare, with no bun and French fries. 30 minutes later she finally brought the burger to me. Everywhere else I've ever ordered a burger without the bun it's been brought out on a plate! This was brought out in a basket on a single layer of liner paper. Just the act of moving it to the flat surface of the table so I could use a fork to eat almost turned into a disaster! By the texture and lack of taste it was obviously microwaved! There's wasn't a speck of pink to be found anywhere, only the same gray appearance throughout! It was juicy, but again it had no taste! No browning either which proves it was microwaved and not put on the grill! I waited another 5 minutes before I went to the waitstaff station and asked when I might get my French fries. She went and obviously got them from under the warmer lights! There's absolutely no reason I'll ever want to eat there again!!!
