We've been on the road and sooo tired of road food. We drove a few miles from Niagara after reading reviews on Yelp, and what a treat it was to find Spiros close by in Iron Mountain! We weren't very hungry, but even if we were, what we ordered would have filled us both. Each had a very hot bowl of French Onion Soup which was delicious. It was full- bodied, not overly salty, with a nice bread covered with very bubbly, browned cheese overall. We also split a Black and Blue Gorgonzola Cranberry salad in which the good-sized piece of steak was nicely charred, and tender, and the greens fresh and plentiful as was the cheese crumbles and bacon. What really made it delicious was the absolutely delicious balsamic vinaigrette (maybe the best I've ever had and that's saying a lot because I am a salad fanatic)! The waitress was very nice (though the other woman wasn't so friendly). The only thing that wasn't great the ambiance. The ceiling is so high and there was a table of four women who were so loud it was hard to have a conversation at our table of two, and no one else in the restaurant. The walls are very bare and the tables look like they were haphazardly arranged. But who cares much when the food is so good, and the prices exactly reasonable!. read more

Very warm and welcoming atmosphere when you first walk in, although kinda small inside, outside is available in the summer and fall times as well. They have great craft beers and the burgers are excellent! My favorite burger is the Barn Burner Burger, simply because I like things more on the spicy end of the spectrum! Food was pretty good, not outstanding, but good. I had a salad that was pretty large. However, I won't go back due to the slow service. I sat about 10 minutes before some came to see what I wanted to drink, that came out in a reasonable time frame. It was probably 10-15 minutes before they came to take my order for food. The food (a salad with steak) took about 20-25 minutes. Then I had to wave the waitress down to get another beer. Just slow and inattentive service. read more

Ok 1st visit here so was not sure what to expect! Would love to have more imports for choices on beer but the local IPA voodoo ranger was decent and hoppy. French onion was good bread was little soggy maybe bake it prior to adding to the soup but good. Curry muscles were really good but was missing something, but over all was cooked properly and decent flavor. Mediterranean salad, lacked a little earthiness to the mixed greens but fresher than most places, suggest black olives, red onion and arugula for more balance, also add Greek dressing to the salad and keep the tadziki sauce for the lamb with little less water. The lamb was slightly drier but the fact that it was lamb was a plus maybe brine it more and drain before serving to keep the dryness to a minimum! But over all we liked. Service sorry forgot her name but was blond and one of the better servers we've had in awhile! Also front of house were on top of it so good work, and yes back did good to get the food out on time being it was full. Ambiance was like a better bar and grill so was over all good experience. Made another vacation visit to Spiro's and it did not disappoint. It was a cloudy evening, but we sat outside. With jackets on is was ok. We started with the flaming cheese and mussels IPA. The cheese was extra exciting as there was some wind, but our server was game to light it. Both the appetizers were delicious. The cheese was gooey and hot and the mussels were nice and briny in a tasty broth. The table had a number of burgers and sandwiches, which they all enjoyed. I had the ribeye steak dip with seasoned French fries. The sandwich had great flavor and the peppers, onions, and provolone added to the excellent flavor. The fries were hot, crispy, and tasty. We had a number of craft beers and wines, which they have a number of great choices. Spiro's is our go-to restaurant when we visit Iron Mountain. read more

The food is top notch! Ruben was most excellent not too juicy and my wife had their carrot cake and is still smiling.

My wife and I shared a 16 oz NY strip with Gorgonzola cream, ranch smashers and vegetables of the day and a bottle of the house Cabernet Sauvignon. Fabulous. Absolutely fabulous. Is the food 5, absolutely. It's the management that disappointed me today. We arrived 45 minutes early to get a table for 6. We were told they only seat 6 on the ends. That is very understandable EXCEPT they had only 2 people sitting in those spots(all other tables open). So after an hour of waiting, we left. If you only use those tables for large groups, why use them for a small party? read more

Just recently went here while in town for my brothers bachelor party and I'm honestly blown away. Everything we had was incredible, the stuffed mushrooms, the bruschetta and the mussels. But the hands down star of the show was the "Beast" burger. Quite possibly the best gourmet burger I've ever had. The food is a 6/5 it is some of the best food I've had for the price which is also pretty cheap but you get a nice cozy restaurant feeling. A great place for a good dinner or lunch that is definitely more varied than the usual U.P. Fare.

We were greeted with a friendly smile and seated at a table at their outside side walk seating. Very welcoming and comfortable. Lemon Drop martini for my wife and an Old Fashioned for me. Drinks were very good. I had the Bistro Steak and she had the Shrimp and Scallop Pasta. Both are delicious! Fantastic service, really good food and nice atmosphere. The prices were also reasonable. Took our drink order and came back twice to make sure they had it right, and still got it wrong. Watched them serve our order to the wrong people and watched these people touch the food. After these people complained the waiter took the dish back to the kitchen and then brought it out and tried to serve it to us. Time for the health department to review this establishment read more

The food was absolutely phenomenal; the service was friendly and attentive, even with the busy night they were having. I really wanted to like this place since it was my birthday and we drive 6.5 hrs from Chicago to do some outdoor adventures nearby, we were starving. My husband ordered a burger black and blue medium, and I ordered "pretzels & beer dip". I ordered cocktail, but I took me a long time to decide because apparently many of there drinks are from a can! I was expecting a bar with a mixologist/bartender you can go and see them make your cocktail. No there is no bar it is tucked away in the back hidden, with some can options that cost $8?? For you to crack open a can. When we received the burger it was well done not medium like we ordered, but we dare not ask for it to be done correctly since we couldn't get the "pretzels and beer dip" taken care of, it was not at all what we thought. It is literally hard block of cream cheese with shredded cheese mixed into it & herbs? Where is is the beer cheese dip? This is a SPREAD people to put on bagels not dip your pretzels, and these are hard pretzels like the the bag of chip pretzels you buy for a snack for you kid. It was a $1.00 dish. I was thinking who's idea is this. Oh man I was so disappointed. My husband asked the waitress if you could take this off and I did not like it and I was expecting a Beer Dip, gooey cheese dip with warm soft pretzel nuggets. She said "I'll ask to see what he says" then I explained how deceiving this is the name does not match it. Then the waitress said "see I already that he is going to say no", my husband says "well at least try please". She goes comes back and says that he says "he said no". I was shocked and disappointed that the owner would push back on a dish and not just rectify the situation appropriately by offering to make it right. I suppose I shouldn't be surprised, this place is use to people liking there food and service because there are not many options in this small town or easy access to all the other delicious cuisine in the big city, so there is nothing to compare it to. My husband hates waste so he tried to eat it like Mikey, but ended up taking it down for someone else to feed. I was over it and didn't want to keep my birthday night going in this establishment. My husband finished his burger and we left to a place down the street The Big 10 Sports Bar and Grill, because it was advertised in the theatre earlier that day we saw a show, we ordered some ribs and cocktails played pool for .50 that's wild, & help yourself popcorn. The ribs were delicious and I ordered Tito's with different mix every-time they were perfect, only $4.50 ! The bar is smack in the middle so you can see them making your cocktails. A warm fireplace outdoor area to relax in. The topping on the cake was the bartender, this lady was amazing very personable and attentive. I really wanted to like this place. We went here based on other yelp reviews. We came here for lunch. The place was cute and cozy, and had a pretty decent beer, wine and drink selection. The menu had some appealing entries. I ordered the chicken and orzo dish. It had nice ingredients, and was decent but very oily. My bf ordered the rolled chicken wrap with french onion soup. For a side he chose pretzels and beer cheese. When the dish came out we were sad to see that the pretzels were the small hard ones that you get on the airplane, and the beer cheese was very salty and not tasteful. His french onion was good. We ordered carrot cake and a Belgian chocolate cheesecake. The cheese cake was delicious, mousse like and decadent. Very good. The carrot cake was weird. It was wet, not moist; like someone sprinkled water on the cake to make it moist. It wasn't a dense cake, and did not taste good at all. My bf took one bite and couldn't eat anymore. We told our waitress that the carrot cake was not good, and possibly something wrong with it. She asked if we want it to go. We said no. We got the bill. We were surprised to see the carrot cake still on there, even though we had 1/2 bite from it. We are sad that we didn't enjoy our lunch. We will not be coming back here. :( read more

We followed the yelp star trail all the way to Spiro's on our way to the UP this weekend. We needed a spot to stop for lunch and didn't just want pizza or bar food... for once. Everyone raved about this little spot, and it was hard to find. We were seated in the small dining room (I'd say about 10 tables?), and they were about half full. They have a full bar (not visible!) and offer up local beers and crafty cocktails, but we stuck to pop for the trip. I started with a cup of the french onion soup. I never see a cup offered, it's always served as a crock since you have to bake it. The cup came out with the nice broiled cheese on top, but this broth was S-A-L-T-Y. I love salt, but this was almost inedible. I was alternating water chugs and spoonfuls. On the other hand the onions were perfectly cooked so they melted in your mouth, and the crouton was thick. I ordered the steak salad, and Joe ordered a chicken sandwich. He got the pretzels with beer cheese dip, and we were extremely disappointed with it. It was literally cold sour cream with flecks of shredded cheddar (not ever melted or mixed), it tasted virtually of nothing. It was nice that the pretzels were warm though! My steak salad was good, one piece was medium, as ordered, and one was very well done, so that was disappointing. The dressing was very good and they were generous with the different ingredients. Service was good, and by the time we left they were full with a wait. read more

A fabulous find in the North Woods, there's a reason this is the highest rated place on Yooperville! I went for lunch and was impressed with the hostess, waitress, lunch, and dessert. I went with the Bruschetta sandwich, which was outstanding (and not just outstanding for the UP, either): toasted ciabatta bun with mozzarella, some amazing balsamic, and a juicy chicken breast, with some pesto thrown in there as well. I didn't mention the tomatoes because I hate those damn things and pulled them out. For dessert the carrot cake was moist with heavenly cream cheese frosting, served on a cold plate (who'd a thunk it?!). If you're in town, you NEED to go here. Nice tunes playing as well, slightly eclectic and very cool. Only minor misstep: Just two minutes after having a conversation with the waitress about our shared hate of olives, she delivers me a side salad with--wait for it--olives. read more
