    Bubble gum ice cream
    Karen B.

The service was exemplary and there were an eclectic array of ice cream options. They have shakes and sundaes as well. The kids has bubble gum ice cream, Mark opted for motor oil ice cream - chocolate and Kahlua ice cream. I had a chocolate malt; it was all right, but minus a star for not using chocolate syrup with vanilla ice cream. The malt was the good stuff - so nice!

Nothing better for a chocolate fanatic like Doc Burnstein's Motor Oil. Dense in a good way. Complex in a delightful chocolate way. Smooth and creamy like the best of small batch ice cream. Combined it with Heavenly Vanilla Bean. All this in Kettleman City along I-5. Good thinking. It is part of the Bravo Farms building. Plenty of parking. Only criticism is that the spoon was too bendy and had trouble spooning the ice cream. Service was good. ---- Just stopped by Doc Burnstein's on the way home for another ice cream fix and was told we could not get two flavors in a single cup. It is a lot busier today on a Sunday so I can respect the rule in this situation. I hope it isn't a fixed rule.

Bananas Foster Ice Cream (Jr. Scoop size)

I loved the Bananas Foster ice cream! I always find it fun to find unique flavors to try out. I paid about $3 for a Jr. Scoop on a cone and it hit the spot. Monica, the cashier and super scooper listed on my receipt was nice. I'd recommend coming here for a break on a road trip between San Francisco and Los Angeles. There's public restrooms at the Bravo Farms area where Doc Burnstein's Ice Cream is a part of and located in too.

    Looks almost bite sized.

If overpriced, average ice cream is what you crave along your drive up to the bay, then please drop some cash here along with that suffering lack of any willpower to not constantly consume ice cream whenever you see it. This place in no way is a reflection of the overall experience at Bravo Farms. Don't get me wrong; I'm really glad that I decided to take my break there. However, the ice cream is definitely not a necessity. I ordered a Jr. size for the low price of $2.99! Oh my, 3 bucks for a tiny scoop of ice cream in a small container. It was fate that decided I would have the strawberry that day--just so I could tell of how mediocre this whole establishment is. I could have spent 3 bucks on better strawberry ice cream from Dreyer's at my local Ralph's. That's my definition of locally grown, straight from the fruit aisles next to the overpriced blueberries that I have no idea who can afford to buy. Maybe the other flavors are much better, but I just feel like you can wait a few hours on the road before buying some decent ice cream where you are headed.

Drives to SoCal just got a little more interesting! Creamy heaven in the most unlikely of places. In fact, this entire Bravo Farms area seems so oddly placed considering interstate 5 is seriously a long strip of highway through what feels like the middle of nowhere. The ice cream does not disappoint. I tried a double scoop of cookies & cream and honey almond. $6.50 - but considering location, I think this is fairly priced. They had other unique flavors! As of November 2017: Cookie D'oh, Rocky Road, Cookies, Cookies, Cookies & Cream, Strawberry, Merlot Raspberry Truffle, Coconut Almond Fudge, Peanut Butter Cup Delight, Pecan Praline, Mint Chip, Vanilla, Chocolate, Doc's Java, Sea Salt Caramel, Premier Pistachio, Banana Foster, Honey Almond, Butterfinger Blast, Motor Oil, Strawberry Cheesecake, Orange 50/50, Birthday Cake, Bubble Gum, Bing Cherry, Rainbow Sorbet - I'm assuming these could be seasonal flavors. They also have other goodies for sale, like gift type tins of treats. If you find yourself needing a break from your drive, definitely make this one of your stops.

All I can remember is the Java.

This place is a great stop on the long drive between So Cal and No Cal. The ice cream was delicious with the JAVA was the best. My wife and I shared a waffle cone with 3 flavors but we both thought the JAVA was best. The service was quick even though there was a line and it was near closing time. The girls were very friendly and the guy cleaning the counter came by and offered napkins.A great place to relax for a little while.

I was never a big fan of Doc Burnstein's in SLO but the shop in Kettleman City is a lot better. It is located in the new Bravo Farms shopping center and though it lacks all the bells and whistles of the other Doc Burnstein's locations, I like it more because it is simple and straightforward. There are some seats but it basically is just a small kitchen where they have a good selection of flavors. Plus, the people working there are tremendously kind and gave us several samples as well as scooping heaping scoops of ice cream. The Bananas Foster was a great flavor. I remember at the original SLO location I thought the ice cream was not creamy enough but at Kettleman City it was slightly creamier and not melty or icy. Overall it is a little pricey, my double waffle cone came out to about $7 but it hits the spot and you can simultaneously shop around and of course use their nice clean bathrooms before you get back on the road.

This Doc Burnsteins Ice Cream is found at Bravo Farms in Kettleman City, CA. It is a fine place to purchase really good ice cream. Prices are on the high side as expected, but still fair. We each purchased a Junior Size which costed us $2.99 each. Based on the quality, I'd do it again! We shared our ice cream. Her Rocky Road was very good, but not any better than Thrifty Ice Cream's version which is still the best. (4 stars) My Pecan Praline was yummy as well. They are not stingy with the ingredients. (4 stars) They have a few seats and tables available at this little parlor. If it gets crowded, then I suppose you can always find a spot next door where there are tons of seats both on the first floor or the second floor or outside. Now that we've tried them, I see ourselves stopping by Doc Burnstein's everytime we're at Bravo Farms. Look forward to trying more of their delicious flavors!

Really nice flavor - "motor oil" (dark chocolate and kahlua)
    Peter C.

I can't believe the little truck-stop place that I use on my way to San Francisco is now expanding - Kettleman City seems to be getting more traffic now. Inside of this new little strip mall/shopping area is an ice cream parlor that serves up interesting ice cream with lots of different flavors. I ordered one called "motor oil" (haha, interesting name for a truck stop place) that's dark chocolate + kahlua. Very good combination and extremely delightful on a hot day with more boring driving ahead. Their single scope is MASSIVE and I cannot imagine other people ordering a double scope :) Hopefully this place will stay around and I will try to visit them again the next time that I drive to SF.

It's got a little less "Wild West attraction" and a little more "Wild West went out of business." The beer selection? Let's just say you won't get overwhelmed by choices. Then came the BBQ... somebody needs to check on that tri-tip because that thing was THIRSTY. Dry as hell and not much going on flavor-wise. Bring water for yourself AND the tri-tip. And the coleslaw... WHERE WAS IT?! I opened the container expecting coleslaw and got what looked like a tiny cabbage salad that had lost its will to live. No creaminess, barely any flavor, just a few vegetables having a meeting. The crispy fries actually showed up ready to work. Probably the MVP of the meal. Overall, it's a cool tourist stop with a lot to see, an ice cream shop, and a fun Wild West vibe. Stay for the fries and ice cream--just don't expect all the games to work or the tri-tip to have any moisture left in it.

My parents were drawn to the Filipino Halo Halo, a classic dessert that showcased a variety of fruits, and creamy milk in a stunning display of color and texture. I give it a 6 oit of 10. It was missing some main ingredients. However, I opted for the Thrifty flavor, featuring chocolate malted crunch ice cream that proved to be a rich and indulgent treat. I give it a 5 out of 10 only because it tased like it was sitting there for a while. One major concern that might deter me from coming back is the fact that the seating area is quite compact. Upon closer inspection, I noticed that there were only two tables, each with a capacity of two people, which seemed a bit restrictive. My initial intention was to grab dessert and engage in conversation, but the limited seating arrangements made it challenging to do so. As a result, we opted to enjoy our desserts in the parking lot, which, thankfully, had pleasant weather. Overall, I think this establishment is better suited for customers who prefer to take their orders to-go, rather than dining in. I would return just because I support small business and believe that every purchase makes a significant difference to the local community.

I like milk and its by-products, especially ice cream so this place seemed like a natural place to visit. And, even though it was small, and even though it is not in anyone's map of California places to see before one dies, this place was a tourist attraction that I will remember till the day I can no longer enjoy milk and the mustache it leaves behind. When we arrived to the spot there was a sole attendant, his name was Anthony and he was endearing to the max. I explained to him an abridge story of our road trip and why we made it a spot to visit. He was like really, like he could not believe that this was an intentional stop on a multi hour road trip. I was like, in my mind, this is not a Thrifty ice cream run bro, this is like a milk experience, of course it is a spot on a road trip. What I did say was like--- you are wearing a uniform, (like one of those that (I Love) Lucy waited for in the 1950's), and there was a window into a factory with workers producing milk, and you have souvenirs, thus the joint is a stop to engage with, a stop to plan for, a stop that naturally fits in someone's road trip's tour. After I said a version of all of this, his smile and eyes became wide, like he really was understanding that his presence and this joint was not just a local milk joint but could be a pit stop that can go white with fame. My intention was to get a milkshake but Anthony explained that they did not sell any. I mean I accepted it quickly, but with some lament as a milkshake is my favorite ice-cream by-product, but I made due with what I could. First, I got a chocolate milk in a bottle. Anthony was kind enough to open it for me. I used to be a big fan of chocolate milk, cause it was a staple in the school's free lunch program and I always found it refreshing and sweet and cooling. Which makes me want to define the difference between refreshing and cooling in terms of taste. I guess refreshing makes one go ahhh like after taking a sip of cold cola, and something cooling makes someone feel the crisp of cold within the body, like eating a chilled lemon paleta/popsicle. And on this day, I drank a bottle of milk and found it to be a nostalgic snack down to the last sip. It is important to note that Denise noticed that they had flavors like Orange Blossom milk, and banana ice cream flavors. So this places dares enough to think outside the box or should I say milk carton? Anthony was also lovely enough to bring out samples of their packaged ice cream. I will be honest I cannot remember all the flavors I tried but I think there was cookie and cream. And the ice cream tasted rich, deep, and fresh, like it been churned recently for pure enjoyment. Like it was meant to be good first, then sold next. And thus at its core it was artisan, not mass produced. I guess that is why they explain their products to be "farm direct." Since I could not get a shake or a cone, I decided to get one of their ice cream sandwiches. I went with what I tasted and knew to be good---- the cookies and cream. This decision was also based on the cookies they used. I reviewed the picture but the cookie was not listed. I ate the sandwich outside in the car, and every bite was a morsel of smooth crunch and velvety ice cream. It was familiar and new, it was reason enough to want to visit the place again. In fact I tried too, on the way back from the road trip but it was closed on that day. Too bad, I have put it on my return spots, I found it to be that wonderful, but again milk, ice cream, and all that it stems from it, I am a fan of, so it makes sense for me. But until then, I got the sweatshirt I got from this place to remember it!
