It has taken me several years to even begin to be able to post this without getting to emotional and feeling my heart break all over again. At my very first appointment with Doc Holly my husband and I explained to her that our boy Texas had been diagnosed with Idopathic poly-immuno arthropothy and he has very special needs and if she wasn't up for it we understood and she said she understood and was willing to work with us and his internal med vet. We had Doc Holly's office clean Texas teeth and a few days later the left side of his head and face were drooping, we took him back to her office and she said he had Bell's palsy and it may take weeks to get better. Then he got sick and wouldn't eat so we called Doc Holly again and they said they couldn't squeeze him in so we went to WSU... turns out he didn't have Bell's palsy, when Doc Holly's office cleaned his teeth they hit a nerve. That coupled with not being able to eat and his immune system issues it was more than his body could tolerate and we lost him. I think what bothers me the most is their lack of concern and compassion. We were very honest and open about his needs from the start. I don't know if they knew they hit/damaged a nerve while cleaning his teeth and that's why she said it was Bells palsy or if it was an honest mistake and they really didnt know. Doc Holly has been our primary office since we moved here and we've had a great experience. We recently had a very sick puppy that needed oxygen and was in the ER. I wanted to transfer him over to them since it's his normal vet office and was told "well we only have one oxygen tank and the Dr needs it for surgery so we cant hospitalize him" huge bummer and also very odd to me that you can only provide oxygen for one patient at a time. read more

Our 5 year old dog broke his leg. Dog Holly put a soft cast on and when we requested to have it xrayed at 2 weeks to make sure it's healing correctly... she denied us. It's been 4 weeks now... finally got the X-ray... only to find out that it's healing in the wrong position and that he will need surgery. On top of that... he has developed bad skin sores from the soft cast wrap. Doc Holly finally said "You should see a surgeon so he doesn't lose his leg." Wish we were more demanding or gone somewhere else after 2 weeks for the x-rays!! Could've got his surgery done sooner and had better healing! read more

We were very pleased with this vet. It was out first time here and everyone was very nice and professional. Our cat had and still does have a lump, it was getting smaller but we wanted to be sure he was ok. She listened carefully about all the details of what had be done for him with regards to the history of this lump and how it was progressing. Dr. Amber did a thorough exam and said she thinks he'll be fine to give it more time and not do anything more as far as antibiotics or the dreaded removal. The diagnosis was logical and professional and we were in complete agreement also the fee was under $100 so for a first time customer we thought that was fair. I have a One Star because in some ways the Doc Holly and Staff are on two different pages. We had brought our Long Hair Dachshund in several times twice they were instructed to call me and not my wife. The last time an ultrasound was done and on the checkin paperwork I told the front desk personnel that they needed to call ME and they wrote my number on the paperwork. I was assured they would but the VET called my wife who was in California. she called me crying and was Heartbroken this is why I wanted to be contacted! I met with Doc Holly when I dropped our dog off and again repeated to call me. We had to put her down and never received an apology for their mistakes and will never bring an animal to be treated here again. read more

September 17, 2021 we took our 10 month old Siberian husky and German Shepherd puppy, Brodie, in for a cryptorchid neutering. Doc Holly removed his prostate and sent his home with us. Over the next 24 hours he leaked urine into his abdomen until we got him to an emergency vet clinic where they drained a litre and a half of fluid and sent us to WSU for a chance to have him live. When WSU did their initial exploratory surgery and opened him up they found the testicle right there and not hidden. Doc Holly did pay the deposit at WSU otherwise we would have been able to put him down as we could not afford the deposit. WSU had to do a complete urinary track reconstruction. He went through multiple surgeries during his month in the ICU and another surgery in December. He is urinary incontinent and has stage 1 kidney disease due to this error. We only ever heard from Doc Holly once after this occurred and she said that she would do anything to help and make sure this is right. Since that call we have heard nothing. We have had a very rough year dealing with Brodie's surgeries, diapers, vet visits, skin ulcers etc, my pregnancy and ultimately the loss of our daughter. For a small town vet I would have hoped for more rather than feeling abandoned. We have been reassured by her insurance Company that Doc Holly will be reimbursed every bit of expense she incurred. In the end we do not feel like we or Brodie have been taken care of the way he should have been by Doc Holly. Brodie cannot be left alone longer than 4-5 hours at the most due to needing his diaper changed so i have to work from home or my husband has to take him to work. None of our local pet resorts will take him due to his diaper so vacations we have to get someone willing to be at our house. Brodie is such an amazing dog and worth saving. I just wish we could be compensated for things that her insurance won't cover or don't find value in. read more

****BEWARE**** this vets office (Dr. Holly Brophy, Lic # V-4551) is negligent, will withhold information from you, and will misdiagnose your pet leaving the vet herself in great confusion. Our dog has been going to her office for MONTHLY steroid shots, for 4+ years now. The last one shot received, she walked into the vets office on her own, and was handed back to us in our arms unable to walk, stand, drink, or eat on her own. They said she received a generic shot that was slightly different than the one before. It makes no sense that the dog would react so negatively to the same shot she has been getting from you for years now. I had to ask 5 different times, 5 different ways, until they finally admitted that the "generic" shot given was in fact different. It is your ethical obligation to be honest about what you have done. The medicine has not been discontinued, it will be available next month. Instead of taking responsibility for not having the medicine in stock, Dr. Holly Brophy proceeded to blame society/public for it not being available, and how hard it was to get this different medicine given. If you have a patient coming in monthly for the same shot, it is your due diligence to make sure you have it available. She failed to make sure it was ordered on time, and tried to blame everyone else for it. We were advised our pet has gone into full blown kidney failure and it is irreversible at this point. I am fully aware kidney failure is inevitable, especially in senior dogs with existing medical conditions, getting steroid shots monthly, for 8 years (4+ years in their office). Many pets can still live a few years with oncoming kidney failure, if diagnosed properly, in advance. When I asked Dr. Holly Brophy when the last time blood work was done, she could not even locate blood work in the file. This visit was in November of 2024. She went back to 2022 checking records, and still couldn't find any blood work. Blood work is the first step any medical professional will start with. It should be done at least once a year, if not every 3-6 months for senior dogs on heavy medicine as kidney failure is expected. When I asked her why she not doing blood work, she explained she did not see the need for it. How do you not see the need for blood work, on a senior dog, that you are giving monthly steroid shots to, for years and years? She continued to use the word generic medicine that was slightly different. When I asked why then did the dog react the way she did, she advised it was a "mystery to her". You provided a different shot, to a pet that has not had blood work done in years, and it is a mystery that kidneys have failed? It is of great concern that something so simple is a "mystery" to her. She is unethical and lacks basic knowledge of why blood work is necessary. You will only find out your pets condition has taken a turn for the worse, only when it is too late. Upon reading prior reviews, this is not the first time something like this has happened with her patients. Failure to check for vital organ failure is the only mystery to me. Every now and then, our vet bill would be double. They would take the dog in the back, saying she had a doctor's check, and then bring her back and say everything looks just great. Until the last slightly different/generic shot she administered. This was the last one she received. We had to put our pet down as we did not want to watch her suffer with kidney failure. She does not understand the concept of what heavy medicine, like years of steroids, can do to the kidneys. If your pet needs ears cleaned or nails trimmed, I highly recommend their office. Based on reviews I chose this vet, and up until recently I was very happy! That being said, lately the online scheduling doesn't work (the never ending hamster wheel of searching) I tried off and on over several hours, when I called I got a phone message that said they'd be closed New Years day its now March 26! So, as directed I left a message that my pup was sick and I needed to make an appointment. I never heard back. That was three weeks ago, luckily my pup finally recovered. This has happened twice with different pups. I appreciate that they're busy with no openings for 3-4 weeks IF you're pet is healthy and just need a yearly checkup. I did notice all the other reviews are over 11 months old.. maybe this is just a two off for me? I always give businesses two chances just in case of the one off rule. My other "con" is that even when the online scheduling worked and you choose the reason for your visit "sick" it gives you a visit date weeks down the road. They should offer a take next opening available if there's a cancelled appointment or can we call you if there is a cancellation to squeeze your sick pet in option. I will say they're always friendly and professional, as well as the rooms are clean with no pet smells. Again, I do understand being busy but at least a call back would have been nice. I have noticed that the last review displayed/shown was 11 months ago unless you look at the "not displayed" reviews. Those are more current and aren't favorable. Doc Holly is the very best. She treats our dogs like they are her own and this care is consistent. she is also friendly and explains things to me. She has hired a couple other vets and so far no complaints of them. I give the lower rating because her front office staff are rude and make errors and treat the customers as if we are stupid or something. I was accused that I should not have a dog if I can't pay the high cost for care when I asked and then balked at the super high price for neutering my puppy. I took my canary with scaly legs to her,she gave me a rag to catch the bird and she switched off the light,to catch it in the dark.You can see the legs outside of the cage,it is not necessary to catch it.She said the air is to dry. I was running the humidifier all day and night for a month. It was no improvement ! I started some research on the internet and find out the cause is the mites.This is how much she knows ! I had read so many good reviews about Doc Holly and really wanted to check it out. I was very impressed by the free first visit. This allowed me to meet her and have her meet my dog without feeling tied down by the cost of an office visit. She sat down at my dogs level and took her time with us and made me feel like he was a priority. Her prices were outstanding and she did an amazing job on my dogs surgery. Shocked at the cost of shots and required exam fee for my 3 pets. Waited in exam room for ~20mins and exam for all three pets lasted 7 mins. The bill was over $300. Frustrated, I called my previous vet in Athol, Northwoods Vet and learned that I would have only had to pay half of the exam fee because my pets were receiving shots there. Shots were cheaper too. If I would have went the extra 15 miles I could have saved over a $100. I reached out to Doc Holly's office for a partial refund and they said sorry, there was nothing they could do. Staff at both places were very friendly and clearly love animals. If you want the same great experience and save a considerable amount of money I recommend driving to Northwoods Veterinary. read more

My wife and I wish we had known about Doc Holly years ago... no matter what the animal, even exotics in our family are just as loved as dogs and cats...we spring into action whenever we see an animal in distress...not just dogs and cats but other animals...birds, precious critters etc. and Doc Holly and her staff in our eyes, is superb. Unlike a few other vets we have experienced in the past who tend to 'prejudice' or reject other animals that may not be a dog or a cat. Not here...NOT THIS VET... After my nearly 200lb male Great Dane had a traumatic experience at a different vets office we brought him here. All of the staff have been nothing short of amazing! They took all the time needed I gain his trust of vets offices back. Everyone has been gentle considerate and loving as well as extremely professional. They brought him every snack they could find until he found one he liked. He now believes he has 7 new girlfriends. Both doctors are awesome and excellent with giant breed dogs. They were even able to add in a exam and shots on the spot for other Dane while I was already there and the doctor even stayed in the room and assisted with trimming my big guys nails since he was scared, instead of passing him off to the techs like most vets do. The staff was also very respectful of any additional requests and insights we had to offer n regards to our animals care. They seemed to really believe and understand that we know our pets and how they react better than anyone else. Neither Vet came off pompous or like they were smarter than you like so many vets do. Everyone honestly seemed like they genuinely loved their job. Their prices are also considerably lower than I was expecting which is obviously a huge plus! Don't do it. The doc gave my 8 week old puppy bloat - overfeeding food that she wasn't used to. Also, the office staff acted like it was an imposition to answer my questions about what shots they were getting ready to administer. Other offices give shots in front of the owner, and explain without being asked. Technicians taking her to another room was unacceptable. read more

We've been in several times to see Dr. Holly and we really liked her. However, our last experience was pretty terrible with them. Our 11 year old cat was dying of cancer and needed to be put to sleep. He was terrified of leaving the house, so we had to schedule a house call for it. Due to some pregnancy complications, I needed to be induced on the day that he was supposed to be euthanized. A called one week in advance (the day I found out about the induction) to ask if there was any way to get the doctor out sooner, and was told no. The receptionist wouldn't even ask her. I called back a few days later to ask a question and was told by another receptionist that she was sure that they could make an exception and she told me to call back in the morning when Dr. Holly was back in the office. I called back the next morning, and once again was told by (i think the first receptionist) that it's not possible and once again she wouldn't even ask her. I explained that these were VERY unusual and dire circumstances. Still no luck. No empathy whatsoever. They wanted us to wait another 3 weeks before she could come out. 3 weeks. And my cat was suffering. So that was not something we could do. I couldn't get another vet to come out until 4 days after I had my emergency c-section. I spent 2 days in the hospital so my cat was alone for 2 of the last 4 days of his life, and then the last 2 days were pure new-baby chaos where I couldn't spend the time with him that I wanted to spend. To this day I am devastated by how his life ended. We had another vet come out and put him down humanely, but I hate myself for relying on the empathy of this veterinarian. I don't know if it was her that's the problem (again, we liked her whenever we saw her in the past) or her receptionist, but either way, the damage is done. To make matters worse, both my cat and my dog died a few weeks apart from each other. I had called them to make an appointment for my dog as well, and again was told it would be several weeks (just to bring him in) so we had him taken to another vet as well. And yet here we are 6 months later and i am STILL getting reminder cards in the mail from these people telling us it's time to bring our dog and cat in for an exam. I have called them multiple times begging them to stop sending us cards. Every single time we get one, it feels like my heart is being torn apart. We have now gotten 3 reminders for each animal. I will NEVER use this veterinarian again. read more

My family and I recently moved from California to Idaho. Before we left I noticed our dog Jack-O-Lantern was beginning to lose his appetite. I figured it was due to the move and all the new places he had been to within two weeks. I thought that once he was home, his appetite would get better and he would feel better. Sadly that didn't happen. I immediately called a vet and without doing any research I took him to the first vet that I called. That was a horrible mistake! The first vet was cold and rude to Jack and he didn't seem like he actually cared. He barely pet him, didn't allow me to ask all my questions and interrupted me when I talked. He informed me that he would need to do extensive tests on Jack including an x-ray ($199), blood work, stool sample and depending on the results, surgery. He gave me the quoted price and I was in shock!!!!! Over $2000 before surgery! Not only were we being charged for the tests, which I completely understand but the vet wanted an additional $99.00 just to look at the x-ray and tell us what was wrong. I was devastated. I did not have this kind of money. I asked the vet if he could give me his advice on what tests were the most important, that way we could decide what procedures we could do right now and which procedures could wait. He said "all of them" and walked out of the room. I was frantic and felt hopeless. Jack is our 4th baby. I couldn't let him suffer. I did the only thing I knew I could do, which was call other vets around town and see if their pricing was cheaper. That was one of the best decisions I ever made because it led me to Doctor Holly at Veterinary Services in Hayden, Idaho. Immediately I could tell this place was going to be different. The receptionist (Ashley) actually seemed to enjoy her job. I explained to her the situation and asked to compare pricing. She did without any hesitation. After hearing her responses, I was in shock! Almost everything they quoted was half of what the original place wanted and they offered a military discount! Finally I felt like I could help Jack. I immediately made a same day appointment with Doctor Holly. At 1:30 I showed up to Veterinary Services. I was welcomed by a happy and positive staff and surrounded by an extremely clean environment. I didn't have to wait long at all before they showed Jack and me our room. Doctor Holly came into the room smiling and happy. I could immediately tell that she was kind and actually enjoyed her job. She went right up to Jack, was friendly and actually seemed concerned about his behavior. She listened to all of my concerns and asked questions. She never rushed me and she made me feel like Jack was actually important to her. After examining Jack, Doctor Holly came up with a game plan. She decided that she was going to start from the bottom and move her way up. We started with getting his stool sample tested, which was done in house so we got our results right away, and then moved on to the x-ray, since he started vomiting and she could see something foreign in it. Doctor Holly not only took the X-ray, but she read it as well and it didn't cost any extra! The x-ray showed that Jack had something in his stomach so we decided to follow through with surgery. When she gave me the quoted price it was HALF of what the other vet had quoted us with! It was affordable! I was so happy and relieved! She ended up doing the surgery that night! A couple hours later, I received a picture from Doctor Holly showing what she had pulled out of Jack's stomach, I couldn't believe it! He had swallowed an entire stuffed snake animal that my kids had played with multiple times. I was relieved to know that whatever was killing Jack was now out of his body! The next morning I received a call from Doctor Holly informing me that Jack was doing amazing, he had started to eat a little bit and might even be able to go home this morning! She said it was great news for us because we could have Jack back and because it would end up being cheaper than originally thought! I literally could not believe that she actually cared about our Jack enough to update us on how he was doing and our expenses! Jack will be going to Doctor Holly for the rest of his life! She is so happy and so kind, there is no one else I would trust with Jack! She is down to earth and cares about her patients and their families. She isn't out to make a million dollars and I honestly believe that she loves what she does. read more
