Great experience with a single kayak rental on a Saturday afternoon. Friendly and fast service from multiple staff members. I was shown a relaxing route to paddle on which was away from the shop, but luckily a staff member brought the kayak to a beach location for me. I was then able to paddle down into town checking out the sites on a calm body of water. So relaxing and beautiful! Upon finishing kayaking a staff member came back to pick it up the kayak and I paid remotely without having to go back to the shop. I think I ended up say $22 and some change for an hour on the water. read more

Just walked into Dockside boat rentals in Oxford this afternoon looking to rent a kayak. Could not have ever imagined how perfectly it worked out! We walked about a mile down from our Inn and when we got found out we could have just called and had then delivered to us... But no worries, Rick offered to give us a complimentary bike rental back to the beach right across from the Inn. He even let us take our time exploring the town on bike while he went and dropped the kayak off for us at the beach. We dropped the bikes and he took them back to the shop, then helped us get situated in the kayak. When we were done exploring the beautiful Ted Avon river we just pulled the kayak back up on the beach and Rick came and picked it up. So much thanks to Rick, he was amazing. Incredible customer service all with a smile. Anyone in Oxford that needs anything recreational (bike, kayak, jet ski, etc) shouldn't even think about going anywhere else! We are staying near St Michaels. We thought about renting bikes in St. Michael and taking the Bellevue-Oxford Ferry. Instead, we drove to the ferry. But we were thrilled to see bike rentals right when you get off the ferry. No one was there so we called the number, and he told us we could wait 15 minutes for him, or we could just help ourselves to bikes and helmets and pay when we returned them. We chose the latter and had a great time biking around Oxford. When we returned, the person at the stand was very nice. There are a variety of bikes. Most were one-speed, which is OK because Oxford is very flat. The bikes were in good shape, and perfect for pedaling around town (not serious riding). If you are in St. Michaels, I highly recommend taking the ferry and grabbing bikes at this rental place. read more

I wish I could give this place a hundred stars. The customer service my husband and I received was amazing. We had a bad experience at the Inn we were staying at and I wanted to leave Oxford completely until we decided to rent kayaks through Dockside. I called in the morning and they had kayaks to us within the hour at our choice location and time. When they arrived he told us to just have a good time, they aren't strictlers about exact time in. We were able to pull the kayaks up to the beach and they picked them up hassle free. Later that day we were roaming around town and decided to eat at the Masthead which we found is right beside Dockside. After dinner we went in to thank them for the service and good time we had. That's when we saw they have jet skis also. So we decided to reserve one in an hour to get changed back into water wear. The young lady who appeared to be the owners daughter was incredibly helpful, kind and seemed full of joy to be working in the business which I found awesome! When we returned it started to get really stormy. We went inside and chatted with the family about the storm, they tracked it on the radar but made it clear our safety and comfort was first. We went out to the jet ski and the gentlemen looked around and suggested we hang tight and see if the weather cleared up in a little. I appreciated that greatly because he seemed to genuinely have or best interested in mind, not money. He offered bikes to ride around town, until we thought it was safe, for free. We had a blast on the bikes and got caught in the rain where they found us in their truck. They offered us a ride but we were having a blast so we decided to ride back on the bikes. When we got back it cleared up for the most part and we were able to get out in the water. He made it clear if we got out there and it seemed dangerous (with another storm in the distance) to just come in and we wouldn't be charged. The gentleman helped me get on and off the jet ski, asked about our family and where we were from, talked to us about the history of Oxford and was just the most welcoming person to do business with. They were the highlight of our anniversary weekend. I would visit again just to do activity rentals through them again. read more

UPDATE: Since I posted my review below, the owner, Wendy, has suggested that the weather was not good and it was stormy which is far from the truth. The weather was clear skies, sure it was a little colder than I would have liked but still fine for boating. In fact, if it was not fine for boating, then why would they have offered me another boat since my boat was already rented out???? and if it was bad weather, wouldn't it have been a good business practice to call the customer to inform them that they cannot let a boat go out? I think the reply by the owner is just to save her own review when in reality they offered me another boat when my reserved boat was given to someone else! STAY AWAY!!! Horrible experience with a terrible outcome and horrendous customer service with "I don't care attitudes". I booked a reservation 3 weeks in advance and was really looking forward to it. I rented the 18' and drove almost 3 hours on the day of our rental, planning our day around our reservation which was from 3p-5p. I get to the shop and they can't find or reservation but the owner Wendy, who was not there, remembers our conversation when I called to ask about it and forgot to add it in and says the boat was rented for 2 weeks and was unavailable. They offered me this small boat that had pontoon looking sides which is not the 18' power boat I reserved and not even close. This place does not know how to run a business. Get a real CRM system to take reservations and get organized. If you do not know what that is then Shut down operations. No one should book anything here and waste their time read more

I had called Rick 3 weeks in advance for the 18' on a Saturday and when I got there, I found out that my name wasn't even in the schedule. Fortunately, I was able to get a spot the next day since I was there in person and the boat was fine thanks to Wendy. However, I had to rearrange my vacation schedule because of Dockside's lack of accountability in the scheduling department---very inconvenient! For those who call to RSVP in advance---be careful because eventually, your name might be replaced with someone who had RSVP'd later than you! Finding out that the SAME THING happened to a good friend of mine a few weeks later, who is the kind of customer that any business is looking for, is to be honest...INSULTING. read more

We had a great experience renting bikes from Dockside. Some of the friendliest retail people I have dealt with in a long time. They were very helpful assisting with equipment selection and delivered it to us the next morning exactly on time. All of their equipment is brand new and in perfect condition. We received complements twice during the day on our (rental) bikes. We called as we neared the end of our trip and they were there within minutes to pick up. Billing was exactly what they quoted. We rented a paddleboard and a tandem kayak for the week, and a Zodiac powerboat for 3 days during our stay in the Bozman area. We were still unloading the car from our drive down from NJ on the first day of our stay when the paddleboard and kayak were delivered by truck, and carried down to the kayak dock off of the main dock at our rental home. Both were in great shape and delivered by a friendly and helpful young man and young woman. The Zodiac, which was rented for Wednesday to Friday, was delivered right to the dock by the owner, Rick, on Tuesday night. The boat was clean and the engine looked new and ran well. We had a blast cruising the creeks and the keeping cool running the boat at full speed. Rick was super conscientious about the pick up time on Friday, wanting to make sure he wasn't cutting us short in any way. As it was, we had the boat until about 6 pm. In terms of equipment quality, convenience and competent, friendly service, Dockside merits a 5 star rating. read more
