However, the receptionist on the phone said the vet doesn't do that and nobody does. I guess that receptionist or vet tech whatever she is, has never read your website because your website says you give dog denture implants. She said she worked there a long time and the vet has never done that and she never heard of it. Our cat Jax was diagnosed with Stomatitis, a painful disease that affects the mouth and gums. To combat the symptoms, complete mouth extractions were recommended. Before his surgery, he already had multiple teeth removed by another Vet. So I was disappointed by the final astronomical cost. Regardless, we refused to have our cat suffer a minute longer and immediately moved forward with surgery. I'm only removing 2-stars for the exorbitant amount they charge, not to mention the uncomfortable front desk vibes and the arctic blast coming from the AC. As for Dr. Skinner, he is professional, kind, personable, and more than competent. Our cat Jax has a new lease on life and has been so happily active post-op.; giving plenty of sandpaper kisses now that he's pain-free. Thank you, Dr. Skinner. However, I feel it necessary to warn potential clients of realistic expectations in terms of pricing. Be prepared to pay top-tier surgery costs at this location if your cat requires multiple tooth extractions. Let's just say our trip to Paris cost less. Additionally, as I hinted, the receptionist's vibe was somewhat offputting. Not to mention the air conditioning was on full blast the entire time; bring gloves and scarf. The waiting room is spacious, but the coffee selection needs improvement. If you're going to charge top dollar, elevate what you offer paying clients. And that's the real reason I brought my little guy in to Dog Beach Dentistry. He really deserves me showing that unconditional love back. From the initial consult, to the examination of my little guy's teeth while on the operating table, Dr. Skinner was awesome. Yes, it was pricey, however, I did not feel like I was getting gouged. They took the time to explain the procedures as well as show you all the potential issues that could arise in the future. Not one veterinarian has ever taken me into the room to show me the issues that they will be addressing while my dog was under anesthesia. Not one. Dr. Skinner took the time to explain the dental x-rays (yes, that is correct - dental x-rays) and found that my go-to veterinarian left a sizable piece of previous molar extraction behind.....and it had abscessed in his jaw. No regular veterinarian would have seen that, and I can't imagine the pain it was causing. Thank you Dr. Skinner!! They present options on their website on how to pay for their procedures (such as CARE credit). I highly recommend going this route. If you love your pet as much as they love you - then the expense is not going to be a factor. You just get to spread out the payments so that it doesn't hurt as much. Plus - as I mentioned before - they are going to do it right the first time. Not like my go-to veterinarian who left that 'thorn' behind in his mouth. During a routine tooth cleaning our local veterinarian spotted two chipped canine molars on our Shiba Inu Puku. He showed me a picture of the broken teeth and exposed nerves. I was very pleased with Dr. Niemiec, his staff and offices. My 17-yr-old Ocicat girl was in need of multiple tooth extractions. I was very concerned about her age and underlying condition of pancreatitis. Dr. Niemiec is extremely knowledgable, kind and compassionate. Dr. Niemiec carefully reviewed her history, lab work and examined her. My girl even let him look at her teeth the first visit, which is unusual. Her strong heart made her a good candidate. Besides little chipmunk cheeks, which I expected, she is doing remarkably well. The next morning I sent pictures of my girls cheeks and got a call a couple hours later. I love the fact this is a digital office and I can communicate by email and get a quick response. I chose Dr. Niemiec for a number of reasons. Some vets generally recommend removal of all teeth. Because of his knowledge my girl still has many of her teeth left. She even has one composite filling. Because of the monitoring, she never received more anesthesia than she needed. Dr Niemiec calmed my fears and took the time to assure me that it was the right decision to go forward with the procedure (even when I was worried the weekend beforehand). We brought two dogs in for consultation and thinking even if theyre a bit expensive, it couldnt be way more than the market. here's a typical cost from them: exam only: $110-130 Deep Cleaning for my 26lbs dog: $1200 Deep cleaning and tooth extaction for a SMALL Yorkie: $4000- $6000 so there you have it, it is way over price. I had my 25lbs dog and a poodle teeth clean in the past for under $400. DOnt waste your time, even the office visit is expensive. you can look on groupon or yelp for Vet places that give free consultation. good luck!!! read more

This will be an interesting one star review. We were referred by an acquaintance that had her dogs taken care of by Dr. Niemiec who spoke very highly of him and his canine dental care. I felt educated, well-prepared, and ready to take on our dog's maxillectomy following the consult ($110). Dr. Niemiec was very professional although I had to wait for longer than I felt necessary for him to see me even though I showed up early for my appointment. His front desk staff are very helpful and Dr. Niemiec seems to travel quite a bit around the SW United States so that must getting questions answered difficult at times. He referred us out for a CT scan and quoted us within a fair price range for the surgery so I felt confident. It took us some time to align our schedules at work to take the time off necessary to get the CT scan which also required 3 chest x-rays, full blood panel, and urinalysis. All told, $1,500+. To be fair to Dr. Niemiec, these prerequisites required me to take a significant amount of time away from work so I had to push our original surgery date back. I set the final surgery date after CT scan had been completed and was socialized between doctors. We were finally locked in and ready to go but unfortunately I got a call from Dr. Niemiec around 2pm the day before (24hrs before surgery) telling me that he did not feel comfortable proceeding and was unwilling to perform the surgery. My wife and I were absolutely crushed. Luckily we had an existing relationship for a prior, unrelated, surgery with an excellent surgeon at VSH who was ready, willing, and able to take care of our dog for us the following week. While I respect his decision to operate within his comfort level I feel like this could have been handled quite a bit better. Especially considering the time spent, the amount of emotion invested in such a large decision, etc. We got left in the lurch with little more than an apology. While I definitely have some nice things to say about Dr. Niemiec ultimately I cannot recommend him to anyone else after our ordeal. All told our bill starting with Dr. Niemic was multiple thousands of dollars over what it would have cost us to go through VSH from the get go. Lesson learned. Dog owners beware. read more

I debated for months on how many stars to give Dr. Niemiec due to his price tag. In the end, he gets 5 stars because he saved our dog's life, maybe. I don't know for sure. But at the very least he saved her jaw and her most important teeth (canines and molars), and most important, saved her from constant pain. After 5 years of only organic dog food, reverse osmosis water, near daily brushing and frequent flossing and scaling at home (my wife is a human dentist), and cleanings every 6 months with a veterinary chain which shall remain nameless (but it rhymes with Stanfield), our beautiful, sweet 4-lb Maltese had increasingly putrid breath and almost every tooth in her mouth including canines was loose (her incisors were practically falling out). We went through vets ranging from fair to completely incompetent: one said, "She doesn't have periodontal disease" (ummm, why are all her teeth loose then?); she resisted the requested locally applied antibiotic (standard of care in human dentistry), then smeared it on her teeth instead of in the pockets. We kept following their advice, but things kept getting worse, so last summer we finally decided to look for a real dentist. Dr. Niemiec's office is beautiful, spotless and thoroughly modern. My wife, who has a beautiful office herself, was very impressed with his work (he has before and after X-rays in his waiting room). His equipment is the same as what she uses in her state of the art dental office. The preliminary estimate for surgery was reasonable. But on the day of surgery, a thorough exam under general anesthesia and X-rays revealed it was worse than we'd thought, with oozing pus pockets, horrible bone loss all over and her jaw about to break near the molar roots and her canine roots about to erode through into her sinuses. The final cost came to about double the original estimate, but I know there was no way of knowing the extent of the problem without X-rays. We made the hard decision to extract 19 non-salvageable teeth and authorized multiple flap surgeries and bone grafts with guided tissue regeneration (GTR is cutting edge even in human dentistry) to reverse periodontal disease and severe bone loss. It did come to a hefty sum, but it was a LOT of surgery. Plus Dr. Niemiec saved us hundreds of dollars on materials provided by a manufacturer. We returned today for her cleaning (yes, also pricier than other places, but I'll never skimp again), and X-rays showed about 90% of her bone loss (nearly 100% in some places) had grown back from the bone grafting! We had a couple of minor flap surgeries today as well, but we now have hope that our beautiful dog might stay healthy for a long time. He's pricey, maybe even expensive. But Dr. Niemiec can do things almost no one else can because he's invested years in training in and then advancing the field of animal dentistry, and spent hundreds of thousands on training, facilities, and equipment, and has written textbooks on periodontal disease (look on Amazon). He's got a right to charge what he feels is fair for his time, and you've got a right to decide whether what he can do is worth what he charges - TO YOU. All I know is before Dr. Niemiec our beautiful dog was losing all her teeth and barely able to eat due to rotting, painful teeth and gums. Without him she would still be in pain (perio disease can lead to other illnesses and a shortened lifespan), eventually be completely toothless, possibly suffer a broken jaw or sinusitis (which could turn into meningitis)... So while it did cost a pretty penny, TO US it was worth every penny to see my dog eating her kibble without pain because of Dr. Niemiec. One reviewer complained about mandatory X-rays. You can't know what's going on inside teeth or bone without X-rays. Especially in dentistry, diagnoses would just be guesses without X-rays. Another reviewer complained about waiting "despite arriving early." I'm a doctor, and I'll let you in on a little secret: if I'm lucky, I'm on time; I'm NEVER running early (and I don't know any colleagues who do either). Please don't go to any doctor's office early, it will add to your wait time. read more

Dr. Niemiec is a world known and respected animal dentist. He is absolutely the best at what he does. I highly recommend at least consulting with him if your dog or cat has a severe dental issue. Have I mentioned he is the best? One small warning - he charges what he is worth. According to Dr. Niemiec, my dog needed all his teeth removed. I couldn't pay for it and he thought it should be done ASAP, or even yesterday. My regular vet consulted with him and did as much of the work as he was comfortable doing. It made a huge difference, but the remaining 3 teeth are now causing the old problems. I am going back to Dr. Niemiec to finish the job he recommended. He said he has never broke a dog's jaw. Other vets are afraid to remove the canine teeth because they say it is easy to break the jaw. Dr. Niemiec has dedicated his life to the art and science of veterinary dentistry and is one of only ~70 Board Certified Veterinary Dental specialists in the United States, and the outcomes speak for themselves. He performed a perfect root canal (a teaching dentist from a top human dental school was visiting to learn more about Dr. Niemiec's practice and complimented on the text-book perfect outcome). For those who wish to minimize financial exposure to such events, that can occur from time to time with a family pet, I encourage you to consider getting a proper health insurance policy such as Healthy Paws health insurance for your dog or cat. Complaining about medical costs while choosing not to take advantage of the safety net health insurance provides is plain dumb. The reviewer "Cindy L." is so off in her comments that I encourage Yelp reviewers to simply ignore her for the following three reasons: 1) Any medical specialist is going to charge a fee to take the time to a) diagnose and understand the medical condition that needs to be treated and b) formulate an effective treatment strategy or plan. The more specialized the skill required to deliver (a) and (b), the more one is going to pay... e.g: your general practice family doctor will charge a much lower rate for an office visit to help treat your cold, than an orthopedic surgeon is who has to repair your knee, or ligament. This is just reality. 2) The $110 charge is usually reimbursed toward the cost of the treatment plan (ours was). Most medical specialists don't do this, but Dr. Niemiec did, and it was a very nice and appreciated gesture. 3) We did not go in "blind" regarding the costs for addressing the root canal, as Christianne provided a treatment cost range (minimum and maximum estimates) in advance, and they were accurate. The charges quoted for our dog's root canal was not off-market, or extreme. The proposed fee was very much in-line with what you or I would have to pay to have a root canal done by a dentist (who by the way, most likely is not a world-renown authority such as Dr. Niemiec), but with the added complexity and cost of having to completely anesthetize the patient, as you can't just open a dog's mouth up while they are conscious and start drilling. Full blown anesthesia (just like any surgery) costs money to deliver as it involves additional training, staff, medication and monitoring technology. This is just reality and a responsibility we assume as part of the pet ownership experience. If your pet requires dental care in Southern California, and you truly care about the quality of such care, I highly encourage you to put your pet in the care of Dr. Niemiec and his staff. Our dog is happy, pain free, and has super white teeth that are now fully protected. She was 100% back to normal within 24 hours of surgery. Upfront pricing estimates, that were super close to accurate but the big plus for me is that even the "low estimate" was a few hundred more than I actually had to pay. 3. Military discount is 15%. They love America. 4. Your consultation fee is applied to your actual surgery so it isn't a wasted fee to get the treatment process started. 5. You can get in pretty quickly when you first call to make an appointment -- they aren't booked out. 6. They really seem to care. Downsides: 1. It is expensive. But, you'll get those numbers at your consultation & quite frankly I should not have jumped around vets & should have gone here from the get go. Putting my dog under only once for a surgery would have really been much smarter in the long run & the money in the end would have been the same. 2. It was a 30 minute drive for me, which I easily got over considering the care my dog got. You get what you pay for. At the first place (not here) they made me feel like a bad pet owner, as if I had purposefully done this to my dog through willful neglect. The office was dirty. They wasted my time through multiple visits & wait times once there. I have never had a doctor's experience like I have with the docs at Veterinary Dental Specialties & Oral Surgery. When I arrived for my first appointment, I was immidiately seen by a real vet and she stayed in the room to talk to me for almost an hour to educate me. They were upfront with their pricing (which isn't cheap), giving me both a low and high estimate. They weren't pushy. First, I have to say that Dr. Niemiec and his staff are absolutely fantastic! Our little girl Luna is an almost 6 year old Alaskan Klee Kai (mini husky). We discovered a cracked tooth where the pulp was exposed and bleeding. Poor thing, we had no idea how long it had been like that. We immediately took her to the Vet. We were given 2 options. A) Pull the tooth at the Vet and leave her there for 1-2 days to recover or B) get a second opinion with a specialist. I like to know my options, so I decided to take Luna for a consultation with Dr. Niemiec. From the moment we walked in the door, I knew we were in good hands. The office is clean and professional. I didn't feel like I was at a dirty animal hospital by any means. The staff was very welcoming and that certainly helped to calm my nervous energy. Dr. Niemiec spent about 20 minutes with us in the consultation. He felt that this tooth appeared to be a good candidate for a root canal and explained the procedure in great detail (with a white board!). The root canal would allow her to keep the tooth, which we felt was important. He explained that if surgery was scheduled, then at that time (once she was under anesthesia) they would take x-rays and further explore her mouth to develop a treatment plan if anything else was an issue. He was exceptionally thorough and detailed, which I most certainly appreciated. This week Luna had her root canal surgery. I waited like a nervous mom in the waiting room and the staff was great about keeping me updated. She did have some other issues discovered and treated with permission. She was able to come home with me as soon as she was able to stand up and walk. Recovery is always easier on the animal when it's at home. Dr. Niemiec personally called us the next day to follow up and again when biopsy results came back (negative thank goodness!) from a growth discovered during surgery. Even with good news, it was the Dr. calling, not his staff. He truly cares about his patients. You get what you pay for... veterinary dental specialty isn't cheap, but it's truly as good as it gets. Last month I learned my little teensy weensy 10-year-old adorable long-hair toy chihuahua, Cassatt, needed to have 10 teeth removed. I cried thinking there might have been something I could have done to prevent this, but had neglected to do, despite annual cleanings (always under anesthesia bc he won't let anyone brush his teeth and he's too small and fragile to restrain). But, the vet explained it is common with little dogs. Cassatt had to have this work done by a specialty vet dentist, because there was risk of his jaw breaking during the procedure. His jaw is about 1mm wide, and the infection was great. When Dr. Niemiec shared the x-rays before surgery, they revealed his jaw was already broken. Risk of another break during surgery was greater. Dr. Niemiec can make a bone graft during the procedure to fasten the jaw, if needed. That is why we were there. His mouth is so tiny. The surgery went perfectly, he had all the infected teeth removed, and his jaw did not break further. The prior break is healing itself with little fibers, even though it is not aligned completely. Cassatt has been so peppy for the past couple of days. I'm so grateful for science, doctors, and these pups that remind us how to live...in the present, playing full out. We found Dr. Niemiec because our Lola has an underbite which leaves her teeth exposed and vulnerable. She has been seeing him for about 5 years, and she has had to have a few extractions, as expected. Our regular vet had been telling us for years that our other dog, Nixon, had perfect teeth and didn't require a major cleaning, so we skipped it for a few years. Finally, we decided to take Nixon to Dr. Niemiec for a consultation since Lola had to go regularly and were shocked to find that his teeth were in bad shape, too. They spend a lot of time before surgery explaining what may need to be done, and once in surgery, they will even show you which teeth need to be extracted and why before proceeding. (That part always breaks my heart because I hate seeing my little pups on the operating table...but I understand why it's done...) I really appreciate the level of care my pups receive here. Dr. Niemiec has saved most of Lola's teeth and has made us aware of issues we might have with Nixon. You really do get what you pay for here, and it's worth every penny. read more

My cat is better than when she went in. Five years ago she had a broken jaw, I adopted her in the shelter a few months after surgery. As far as I knew she was fine, but over the years there's been some degradation to her dental health. All I knew about was a recently broken tooth but they found some infection and resorption issues I wasn't aware of. Now that she's fixed and back home she's purring. This car never purrs. This is probably the first time in 5 years I've heard her purr. Thank you. read more

Horrible bedside manor, rude staff. Get a second opinion please. This guy removed healthy teeth from my pet stating he was "saving his canines". I found out afterwards my dogs dental X-rays were "insignificant. The result of his recommendation "if this was my dog this is what I would do" left a significant problem for my pet that he won't recover. In my opinion.... I wish I never took my little guy here!!!! read more

Cha Ching ! Dr. Niemic charged $ 100 just to take a quick look at mt dog's teeth. Before I could even sit down in the waiting room, the receptionist had a quote ready for $ 1,600. There was a note that this amount may be exceeded. When I asked, the reply was Dr. Niemic performed only a cursory exam, and he may find more problems during surgery. So........... what did I just pay $ 100 for ? I decided to write of the $ 100, and found another dog dentist - and he turned to be extremely competent. The final bill was less than $ 1000. I shudder to think what Dr. Niemic's bill would have been. btw he owns a LOT of real estate. It is easy for me to understand why. read more

Pros: Great staff and office! Wonderful results! Cons: none Our 2 year old Shepherd mix broke her upper canine tooth while playing at our local dog park. After a trip to Sunnymead Animal Hospital we were given two choices. The first choice was to pull the tooth. When I declined that option we were told about Dr. Niemiec and the possibility of a root canal. My husband took our girl for a consult and she was a good candidate for a root canal. Dr. Niemiec and his staff were wonderful. All very detailed in the explanation of everything. Even after getting her all set for the root canal Dr. Niemiec noticed that our girl had some deep pocket issues with her gums. Even with that added to the cost of everything I would do it all over again just to save a tooth! The office is wonderful and very clean! The lounge makes waiting for your pet very comfortable and relaxing. Dr. Niemiec even came in to the lounge while our girl was recovering and talked with us as we waited. He is a very professional and personable man. We were very comfortable with him and the staff. Details on recovery were thoroughly explained and very detailed! Our girl has recovered very quickly and is back to playing with her toys and pain free. Dr. Niemiec and his staff were so amazing. They stayed late to fix the fractured jaw of our 13 week old Great Dane Laila. They were so informative and kind and Dr. Niemiec personally called me the next day to check on her. Very expensive. We basically sacrifice dour annual vacation plan to do oral surgery for our dog. But Dr. Niemiec did an excellent job.

Kora is a 1.1 y/o 40lb Staffordshire Terrier rescue. We are pretty sure she is the cutest animal alive. When Kora broke her canine tooth, we were distraught. With a whole life ahead of her and plenty of toys to go through, we knew we had to do something to save her tooth. EVERYONE at Dog Beach Dentistry was AWESOME. From the first call, to the initial exam, right through the procedure itself, the staff at Dog Beach Dentistry were consummate professionals AND caring human beings. Of course there is a huge relief knowing that your Dental Vet is one of the best. But beyond that, the staff that supports that Vet can either make or break a clinic. This staff makes the clinic. A special thanks to April for understanding that sometimes the parents need as much help as the pooches. She kept my anxiety level as low as possible by providing me with every bit of information I needed as well as assurances throughout the process. A little about cost. I find it amusing that someone would rate this office with 1 star after never having stepped foot in the place. Medical care for pets costs money. Although I am glad we got health insurance right after adopting Kora, cost would not have been a factor anyway. Medical professionals and their staff deserve to be paid and our pets deserve the best care possible. That said, the final invoice turned out to be almost $250.00 less than originally anticipated. These people are not out to gouge anyone. They are out to provide pets with the best possible care for your dollar. And that they most certainly do. We could not be happier. read more

This place is a joke...I just called to get a quote on cleaning my dogs teeth... $110 for the exam, then X rays (not optional) and then cleaning but they will not quote prices on the 2 latter procedures....so I guess you go in blind and come out with a national debt......called my vet after this conversation and was told examination and cleaning $450.....at least I know how much to bring...If you get involved with this guy be prepared to have a hefty bill. read more

We have a 6 year old Terrier mix who had had consistent bad breath for the past 2-3 years. We had gone the "non-anesthetic dental" route twice with her - to no avail - those definitely are a waste of money and should be banned altogether since all they do is a cosmetic and VERY temporary fix which can almost do more harm when there are underlying problems. When your pet has periodontal disease it needs the expert touch of a specialist, and that specialist in our opinion is Dr. Brook Niemiec. Things happen for a reason... our little dog was scheduled for a dental at her regular vet a few months ago but then the vet we saw left the practice and we did not feel comfortable with any of the remaining DVM's there to have anyone else do it so we put it on hold. In the mean time, we decided to expand our parameters, do some research and... we came upon Dr. Brook Niemiec, who has a stellar reputation as the dental specialist extraordinaire in San Diego --- we asked about him among other DVM's and all comments were five stars so we made our final decision and took her in to see him. We knew full well that the cost would be high, much higher than if it were done by a regular DVM - but we also knew we would get the best of care for what we had a feeling may entail more than what a regular veterinary practice can provide. We are VERY happy we did. Even though our little dog was better off than we all thought - she does have periodontal disease and she had to have one (simple) extraction - the tooth was loose and discolored so it was best to extract it. She also had a couple of worn teeth that Dr. Niemiec evened out for her. The whole process was explained step by step -- it was especially wonderful to be able to come in to the OR while our dog was already anesthetized to see the x-rays and have them explained and for Dr. Niemiec to point out some of his findings and solutions. There was a registered veterinary technician (RVT) assisting him during the whole procedure - this is especially reassuring since one of the most important things during any surgical procedure is to monitor the patient from the moment she is induced (started the anesthetic) to after it's all over and she recuperates and wakes up. The operating room was state-of-the-art. The procedure took about 2.5 hours from the moment we arrived to when we were out the door. My husband and I waited in a very nice waiting room. Thankfully, our little dog did very well during the surgery as well as post-op - she is on an antibiotic, some pain medication and an anti-inflammatory for 7 days and has a re-check 14 days post-op. I cannot recommend Southern California Veterinary Specialties enough. From the helpful staff at reception, the technician and of course Dr. Niemiec who, by he way, called two days later to check on how our dog was doing. This place is 5 stars and then some. read more

This is actually two reviews in one, both mine and my sister's. I live in Chicago, but visit my sister in San Diego every year. For the past few years, both of us have brought our Bichons to Dr. Furman and Dr. Niemic for dental care over the past few years and can attest to everything the other reviewers said about their top-notch experiences - from the doctors' very high level of expertise to the professional and loving care the pets receive from both the doctors and staff. We agree with reviewer Brigitte Z. that Christianne is wonderful, and have to add that we feel the same way about Dawn! They've made every effort to accomodate our schedules, and we really appreciate that. We just brought them in today for their annual cleaning; Dr. Furman took a few minutes to show us their beautiful new facility - we could tell how invested they are in providing the best care for their patients, and in keeping up with the latest developments in the field (they also do teaching sessions, events, etc.). We'd never experienced that level of attention and enthusiasm in any visit to the vet before, and both of us were really impressed. But of course, what counts most is how they treat their patients and the kind of care they give, and we found both to be, as usual, excellent. What's especially great is that Dr. Furman himself took the time to call us to let us know what they found upon examination and the recommendations for procedure. In past years, Dr. Furman has had to complete some extractions that have pratically saved my sister's dog's life - he was listless and in pain for years and we didn't know why until we brought him in for treatment. As a result, he has tremendously improved quality of life and we're really grateful for that. As the other reviewers have noted, their services are not cheap. But we'd be the first to complain if it were overpriced, and this place is definitely NOT in that category. Worth every penny, as far as we're concerned! read more

I was referred to Dr. Niemic and his office for retained deciduous teeth that have not erupted in my 8 year old chihuahua. He has such a tiny jaw and mouth that it's best for a dental specialist to take care of. I cannot explain how amazing my experience has been with the entire staff so far. From making the first appointment, to scheduling his procedure - it has been a smooth, easy process. The girls at the front desk, April and Christianne, are so sweet. You can tell they really care about the animals and make every effort to provide the best customer service for you. So I just dropped him off for his procedure with Dr. Skinner. They had me wait around until he was under anesthesia and he was able to do a full exam of his mouth. When he was done, he brought me back to see him and go over in detail what he found and what he was going to do. I was even able to see the X-rays! I left feeling so confident that my dog is in the best care with Dr. Skinner. I definitely recommend Southern CA Vet Dental Specialties for all your pets dental needs. One of my little cattle dog's canines broke. Both of my regular vets recommended a dental specialist, which turned out to be the same veterinary group, just at different locations. We went for a consult with Dr. Furman at the Irvine location and were able to make an appointment quickly and schedule surgery within days at a location closer to my home. I was very pleased and relieved with the personal attendance and detailed explanations from both Dr. Furman and April, who assists him. I didn't feel like my dog was part of an assembly line surgical operation and that they were aware of any individual concerns or idiosyncracies with my dog's veterinary history. As a result, I was not worried (which I usually am) when my dog disappeared "into the back" for the surgery, especially since the process is done all at once. That is, Dr. Furman sees one veterinary patient at a time, from start to finish, rather than lining up several surgeries to do in one block of time. That means that someone is attentive to one's dog not only during the procedure but also during the initial anesthesia and recovery period. The surgery went well - in the end 5 teeth were extracted - as did the post surgery recovery. My dog had probably had a dental infection most of her life, from long before I adopted her. The dental work seems to have removed some chronic pain and restored her health. She is livelier, her coat looks better, and it has had the welcome outcome of eliminating her licking a calloused spot on her leg. Other vets and I thought it was either an ache on the leg or a self-soothing behavior from a prolonged time at a shelter or her life before I adopted her. However, now I think it may have been a way for her to soothe the ache in her mouth, as the behavior abruptly stopped. She is still fastidious about her paws, but she does not lick that spot constantly. The cost of the surgery was surprisingly reasonable. It's pricey, to be sure, but not more expensive than one would pay for the same time, process, tests, and medications at one's general practice veterinary clinic (or one's own dentist, for that matter). It is definitely a specialist's work - the reason that my vets would not undertake the surgery -, and one is paying for that specific knowledge and skill. The procedure was well worth the cost, as I now have a happy dog that is even healthier than she was before she broke the tooth. read more

Dr Niemiec saved my cat from pain, extended his life, and gave me more time with him. I will always be grateful! At first look the cost of the surgery seems high, but if you look at the bill, it itemizes everything and you see how reasonable the cost actually is. The dr's fee is not very high. I should also mention my cat has compromised kidneys and I was really worried about the surgery. The dr helped me make the difficult decision the go ahead with the surgery. Dr. Niemiec was recommended to us by our veterinarian as a dental specialist. One of our puppies has an under bite and requires special dental care. I don't think I ever had such a wonderful experience with any doctor myself being a patient. He was very patient not only with the puppy but with us too. Took his time explaining everything, outlining our options, going over all pros and cons. I wish some of my own doctor would display the same level of consideration for human patients :-). I called for an estimate on teeth cleaning for my puppy and was told I had to bring her in for an exam that costs 115.00 first then they would tell me how much to clean her teeth! So basically you have to spend 115.00 before they will tell you how much to have your dogs teeth cleaned.. Nope ! Not going there anytime soon!! read more

I have an older cat very prone to allergies and was nervous about putting him under anesthesia for some badly needed dental work, so my veterinarian recommended Dr. Niemiec for his thorough knowledge of both anesthesia and veterinary dentistry. The operation my cat needed turned out to be much more intensive than anyone had initially expected (x-rays revealed that ALL of his back teeth were in some stage of resorption and should be removed), so I was glad he was in the hands of a specialist. Dr. Niemiec was able to work both quickly and carefully: the operation was finished much sooner than I expected, and there were no further complications. The estimate from this clinic was more expensive than the one from my regular vet, but under the circumstances I feel that it was definitely worthwhile to go here instead. read more
