I am so grateful to this groomer! From the first conversation it was a great experience!!! My shipoo was matted and all groomers are booked out for months. I spoke to Nichole and she was kind, and very helpful. I was super nervous because it was my shipoo's first time going to them but she helped to ease my nerves. When I dropped her off she was shivering but Nichole took her and hugged her to try and soothe her. When I returned my dog was happy, beautiful and smelling great! I have to say, I have never seen My baby so happy after grooming but she was super excited. That meant a lot and really eased my stress! Thank you everyone at Dog essentials! Our boy Apollo gets upset when we try to cut his hair. He nips and growls and doesn't let us do anything and it got to the point where his hair was so long that a bath didn't do much to help him feel better. It was irritating his ears and eyes and his paws were hurting because of his nails which we tried to trim too but he got upset. Finally my fiancé called Dog Essentials and set up an appointment and let them know that he IS aggressive when it comes to certain things and that we really needed help. We dropped him off and a couple of hours later when they brought him from the back I started crying (happy tears of course)! They told me he didn't get upset when they did everything. Today was my first experience with Dog Essentials and I was so thrilled with easy, friendly experience, for both my pup and I, that we will definitely be going back! I have a mini aussie, and they did a great job with him! They were friendly over the phone and in-person and were so efficient. He was in and out in an hour and a half, and looked so cute! He got lots of compliments from the groomers, and treats of course. I know a lot of dogs can be traumatized by the experience, but he came out happier than when we got there! Beth is the best trainer and groomer for your dogs. We had a 105 lb. Doberman named Leo and I took him to Beth as a puppy (having never had a dog before!) and she taught me and special boy Leo. Beth has patience, compassion and creates a great environment for dogs to learn and be groomed. She provided in home training,, park training and training at her shop. Leo was always happy to see Beth and her staff - who are wonderful as well. We lost our boy about 6 months ago and a new little guy found us named Fletcher. He is also a Doberman and Beth has introduced him to how to take a bath (slowly as it can be scary for pups :), tips for me that reinforced the early stage trainings that I learned so long ago and a place that Fletcher is excited to go to. My dog Pippa is six and quite sassy for lack of better terminology. She is Maltese/Pekingese mix, and I've taken her to other groomers throughout her life. One place had to put a "smile catcher" (muzzle) on her and another place cut her tongue. Apparently, she licks her lips when she is nervous and they snipped it. I decided to try Dog Essentials and I am quite pleased with the result. They had me make an earlier appointment so Pippa could be the focus of their attention. They covered her ears so the hair dryer wouldn't scare her, and used a cone instead of a muzzle. Beth is also a dog trainer and gave me lots of advice to make the whole situation less traumatic for my dog. They also allowed me to stay for the duration of her appointment, which was nice. I adopted a rescue two weeks ago, and brought her in for a grooming. After an hour she was done. She was happy, and beautiful. I looked Dog Essentials up because I had used Beth for in home traning three years ago for a different rescue. A neighbor gave me her card after witnessing my out of control dog. Beth came to my house every week for six weeks, and my rescue was doing very well with his new commands. I could finally have friends to the house without worry that he would bite. After he died, due to an incurable disease caused by poor breeding, Beth sent me a sympathy card. She cares for dogs, and their owners. I would recommend her. read more

I had a terrible experience at Dog Essentials. I brought our Goldendoodle puppy there for grooming. I was told when I dropped our dog off that it would take a "long time" since they had many dogs there that day. I offered to bring the dog back in later, but they stated they were going to get started soon. I was then called 7 hours later and told our dog was "all set". When I arrived, the owner, Beth, was cold and rude and told me that they were unable to finish grooming our dog because he gave them a "warning bite". Our dog looked ridiculous. He had long strands of fur sticking up everywhere on his head and patches of un-groomed areas scattered about. He had not been brought out to relieve himself the entire time (over 7 hours) that he had been there. She then charged me over $100 for "all the trouble" he gave them and she suggested I speak with our vet about medicating him. I was shocked since this is a sweet, joyous puppy who had never bit anyone before and who had tolerated being successfully groomed several times before. The dog was traumatized and even cowered when we attempted to pet him the first evening when we returned home. Needless to say, we would never bring him back to Dog Essentials and I feel terrible that I brought him there that day. We subsequently have brought him to another groomer in South Windsor. They had no trouble successfully grooming him (WITHOUT medication) and he was a happy pup when we picked him up - and we were charged $40 less then we were when we picked up our half groomed, traumatized pup from Dog Essentials.. read more
