Specialties
I am an in-home groomer who uses only professional equipment, shampoos and conditioners to bathe and groom your dog to your exacting specifications. I do specific breed cuts as well as pet trims.
Avoid the hurry and hubbub of a salon where your pet will wait in a crate and be subject to plenty of noise and confusion and quite often, rough treatment. I do all my dogs one at a time, straight through with TLC. I specialize in older and/or special needs dogs that don't do well at a shop. For a nominal fee, I can pick up and drop off your dog for your convenience. I do flea baths, tick removal, skunk baths, and puppy pampering. I'm not able to do dogs over 50 lbs., but anything up to that weight will do just great! My portable equipment includes a sturdy folding table with a safety arm and Groomer's Helper looper. I can set up in a very small space, usually a kitchen or basement area. In the summer I do many of my grooms in the garage or driveway (weather permitting!)
History
Established in 2017.
Having been employed in a corporate environment for almost 25 years, I decided no more office work! Life's too short to do a job you approach with fear, loathing and prescription medication....! I have always been a dog lover and this career is a good fit for my talents, especially my 'artsy' side. Animals know when you have an affinity for them and I have never met a dog I didn't like! Furthermore, grooming is rewarding because the finished product is a visible improvement of how that animal looks and feels. At over 55, I feel renewed purpose and can't wait for my next adventure!
Meet the Business Owner: Laura H.
I graduated from the CT K-9 Education Center in Newington with a grooming certificate in 2014 after having taken Vet Assisting Courses I & II at Manchester Community College in 2013. I also have a BA in Business/Marketing from CCSU. Because I've owned dogs for many years, I'm quite familiar with their day-to-day needs. My favorite breed is the Golden Retriever (my first dogs were brother & sister Goldens) and that's one of the reasons I named my business Golden Rule. Currently, I share my home with 3 rescue dogs: a Chihuahua Mix, a Teacup Chihuahua & a Poodle Mix; Evalina, Pixie Pi and Delphine, respectively. I have worked at several grooming salons as a stylist, but transitioned to in-home grooming once I realized that I had a knack for it and that it was so darn much FUN. I keep up with the latest in techniques by conferring with my colleagues, attend grooming shows where demonstrations are highlighted, watching online educational videos & most importantly listening to my customers!
