We have been taking my dog here for the past four years and at first it was fine though they did always cut off way more hair than requested. But this time we got a call that he had been nicked during the cut. When we went to pick him up they said they had cleaned the "cut" and that he had no reaction. Later today the gauze game off and we noticed he was missing about an inch of skin. The so called nick is raw skin on his leg that will take days to heal and needs to be properly covered to avoid infection. My, like many others is nervous at sound of fireworks and smell of smoke. When we dropped him off today the place reeked of smoke and he began to shake. I shared he was nervous likely because of the odd smokey smell and looked over to see incense burning at the counter. Overall we wont be going back and I wouldn't recommend them to anyone. read more

I've been a customer for more than 10 years and was very happy until now. We were 40 mins late for a scheduled appointment. When we arrived, we were told the appointment was given away. Okay, that is fair. We reschedule, return for the appointment. When we go to pay, the bill was $190 (vs $140). They proceed to tell us that they added a $50 penalty for missing the last appointment AFTER the fact for an appointment they resold. No where is this policy posted. They did not disclose this until after the grooming was done. Completely unprofessional. Clearly they do not value loyal customers. Buyer beware. read more

The thing that really sucks about moving clear across the country is that you've got to find new sources for all the services that you use. It is such a pain in the you-know what! Case in point: dog groomer. I've got two maltese that require grooming every other month. Maltese have hair, not fur, and it grows out just like human hair. In other words, unless one wants to deal with brushing out long locks of hair 5 times a day (been there, done that) one needs to get these pooches coiffed on a regular basis. Where I used to live, the puppies went to Franco's. This place was crazy busy and the best bargain in town - $30/pp (per pup) for my dogs. When everything for these dogs is x2 one begins to appreciate a good deal. Taking the pups to Franco's now is out of the question (3000+ miles is a little too far of a commute), so I turned to Yelp for help (haha - that rhymes!). I specifically was looking for a groomer between Vernon and UConn in Storrs, since that's where I will be spending most of my life very, very soon. Amy C. had such a glowing review of Posh Pups, and they met my location criteria, so I decided to take the plunge. PP is located in a cute little house out near Nature's Grocer (if you know where that is). The place is spotless clean on the inside and does not have that awful aroma of wet dog that I expect to smell at a groomer. The two ladies that were working were friendly and relaxed, which the dogs they were working on picked up on and in turn were calm and relaxed. Good signs! Dropped off my babies and was told they'd be ready in 4 hours. 3 hours and 45 minutes later I was called and told they were ready to be picked up. I like that extra service. I'm used to just having to show up at the appointed time and not getting a call. Nice service! Pups looked great, happy and not stressed out. I was told that my boy had a few fleas, but they took care of it. All smiles and happiness all around. So why not 5 stars? it was $50/pp for the grooming. OUCH! Maybe I'm just used to Franco's prices, but dang! Well, I was told everything is more expensive in New England. However, the service was expectional. I would recommend this place to others, just be armed with the knowledge that great service and cut comes at a price. read more

Brought our Bichon for a 2nd visit today and he came back cuter than ever! The first time we brought him a few months ago we had just adopted him and "walking mop" doesn't even begin to cover it. He was a matted mess and PP did a great job of patiently shaving him down. He wasn't super cute after but it had to be done. As his fur grew back out he looked really great. This time they took less off and he came back super fluffy and white. Just gorgeous! They have a great relaxed atmosphere and are great about staying on schedule. After having some not so awesome dog grooming experiences with my corgi/sheltie/husky/who knows mix, Luna, I was so happy to try out Posh Pups when it opened late last year. Conveniently located off of Exit 67 on I-84 near the Tolland/Vernon line, it is easy to find and not far from my house! The owner, Jennifer, is the main dog groomer and not only is she talented, she is incredibly approachable and personable. She always has such sweet things to say about Luna and makes me feel good about leaving her in Posh Pup's care. I bring her here every few months and she always looks amazing afterwards! Some other reasons I love Posh Pups so much include always being able to get an appointment that fits my schedule and not having to wait 8 hours to pick her up. This was always the case at Petsmart, $80 for my dog to sit in a crate all day? No thanks! And the cherry on top, her prices are so much better than anywhere else! read more

We had our Goldendoodle groomed here twice this year - in April and October 2018. The first time we brought her in she had a lot of knots, so although I was disappointed that she looked more like a shaved poodle than a Goldendoodle, I chalked it up to be the amount of knots. Yet, just two weeks ago although she once again had knots, not only did they completely shave her down again, this time the top her snout was completely red and raw. The very next day her nose looked even worse and I noticed they even cut her nose with the razor. When my wife brought her in to ask why her nose was so red, they told her they had to cut the fur off the top of her nose because she had stains from tears. Seriously?? First, in the 4 yrs we've had her since she was a puppy, she has never had tear stains. Second, what dog ever gets tear stains on the top of their snout?? Lying about why her nose was shaved is bad enough, but a terrible haircut for $75 and a sorely red and nicked nose is enough to keep us from bringing our pet to "Posh" Pups ever again. read more

I said to my husband, " I hope when we walk in they're like: "Hiiii puppy we're so glad to see you!!!!" Literally that's what happened. I yelp to locate services and based on reviews and driving by we figured we would give Posh Pups a chance. Upon walking inside and seeing a basket of green tennis balls, dog food, two women talking and behind the counter several adorable pups waiting in creates, you could feel positive energy. My 10 month old Shepard felt comfortable walking away from me, ignoring the other dogs (which initially is rare), to Stephanie (think that was her name) to start his first grooming experience. I was told around 2:30 he would be ready and I would get a call when he was ready to go. At 12:30 I got a vm that he was gonna be to be ready at 1:45. At 1:45 we picked him up and he presented as calm and secure with his clean coat, clipped nails and normal attitude. That tells me Posh Pups worked with him and were gentle! He'll be back next month for sure! read more

I have a 9 year old Springer Spaniel. Posh pups is super close and they do a better job than the big box stores. They seem to have more experience cutting dogs, for example my dog always looks like a Springer Spaniel when I pick him up after grooming. At Petco he looks more like a goat. read more

I gave this place a shot when we first moved into the area and I am giving them three stars because they are pretty much on par with most groomers. First of all, I had to wait a LONG time for an appointment and when we arrived the place was packed. They groom all types and sizes of dog here, so it was a little scary for me and my little Shih Tzu. There was a skunked boxer in the reception area and this place was LOUD. When I picked my dog up hours later, he looked OK but of course once I looked more closely at home things were more clear. As happens with many groomers, they seem to groom the top layers of hair and don't address knots underneath. Moreover, he did bleed from a couple nails for a couple days. However, the worst part was that our typically sweet, lovable Shih Tzu was growling and even nipping at me for two weeks afterwards. He absolutely NEVER did that before or since, but we were so worried that we had to pay for a vet visit to make sure everything was OK. Shortly after this we discovered Doreen's Country Pet Grooming. Doreen only does small dogs, in a small setting with just 1-3 dogs at a time it seems. She combs all of our dog's hair out and does a wonderful job. But the best part is that our dog doesn't come home emotionally traumatized. For us, Posh Pups was not where we wanted to leave our little dog ever again. To be fair, I just think that small dogs -- and especially long-haired dogs- need special attention and a calm environment. read more
