I initially inquired about a puppy on a Monday, submitted an application on Tuesday, met the puppy on Saturday, and took him home on Sunday! The case manager was so responsive and incredibly helpful. The foster was very accommodating with meet up times and was very honest and open about the puppy's behaviors - pros and cons. I've tried contacting this rescue abut a dog that has been "pending" adoption for months, but still hasn't been adopted. I wanted to see if he is still available or if he's actually been adopted and just hasn't been taken off their Petfinder list before I spend the time applying to meet him. It's been weeks since I emailed and I haven't gotten a response. Seems like they take in way more dogs than they can actually manage responding about and it's not fair to potential adopters or the dogs if this is the case. It makes me wonder if this poor dog is still in limbo with a foster home with a pending adoption that will never go through. Update: given Jenny's response to my initial review, I'd like to clarify that Zeke's Petfinder ad has been saying "adoption pending" for MONTHS, which implies to me that they possibly forgot to change it or forgot about him. Second, I'm tired of applying for dogs that aren't available anymore with rescues that have high rates of turnover. I'm not interested in mutts. I want a purebred working line German Shepherd, so I'm not about to waste time filling out a lengthy application for a dog that might not be available at a rescue that has no other dogs I'm interested in. I didn't want to waste your time with a longer email when all I wanted to know is if the dog was actually available or not. Clearly Jenny is not a nice person and isn't running a competent rescue organization. I would not want to work with her at any level. This is an amazing rescue staffed entirely of foster volunteers who want to find the right home for the dogs in their care. They may ask a lot of questions and the process may take longer than going to the shelter, but it is because they want to know that the doggos are going to a home that is as vested in their success as the organization is. I got my puppy from them and they have never been anything but supportive and helpful. If you don't have the patience to work with people who are genuinely trying to vet their potential adopters and find the right fit. Go elsewhere. I filled out an application and reached out twice, and although I have great vet references and am a great dog mom, no one ever responded to my inquiry and the dog still showed still available on Pefinder. I understand shelters get busy, but if a dog is not available, or there is another reason they are not interested in you adopting from them, it would be nice if you would at least get a response. Maybe they are a great shelter, and I would feel bad leaving this review if they are, but if they read this, please have whoever is monitoring available dogs to respond. While the organization its self is a great thing, the customer service of this particular one is awful. Gina is unprofessional and just rude. I inquired about multiple dogs, was told I'd get a meet and greet, hear nothing back then when I would follow up she said their adopted. I continued to look but Gina was less the kind and efficient. I have had rescue dogs my whole life so that's the only way I'll ever go but the whole experience left an awful taste in my mouth. I am happy to see they adopt so fast and dogs are gettin homes hwoe I can't seem to comment on the owners comment so I would like to acknowledge how rude and offended I am. I have rescued a total of 4 dogs and 2 from kill shelter so to throw a dagger because I wasn't interested in Riley was rude and unprofessional. I was not interested in Riley because I have not been great at continuing training with breaking the separation anxiety and I feel like that's important. My work schedule just didn't allow me the opportunity to do so. The person I worked with was rude but clearly so is the owner so I should expect that to be acceptable customer service. Everyone's horrible customer service takes away from the amazing thing they do. I have done nothing but save dogs lives much like the volunteers here. If this is how you treat humans trying to do good things I'm concerned with how you treat animals. It was clearly sarcasm as YOU ALL need to work on your customer service skills and during tough times mean crappy ppl like the people that work here make it even harder. My family and I have had two dogs from DGS that we absolutely love and the process was insanely easy and supportive but recently this hasn't been the case. We have applied multiple times and haven't even gotten responses about dogs that we were really interested in adopting. My family and I totally understand if DGS had found a more suitable home but they kind of just left us in the dark. I had an unfortunate experience with this dog rescue. First, there was confusion between the Dog Gone Seattle (DGS) representative and the foster mom about what was acceptable communication. The foster mom started communicating with me without CCing the representative. This led to the foster mom and I accidentally breaking protocol when I visited the dog before I had filled out the application to be pre-approved. This clearly irritated the representative and seemed to put a dark cloud over the situation. I'd advise everyone to CC DGS on all communications so there are no misunderstandings. I had assumed the order in which a person inquired about a dog is the order in which it would be adopted, essentially a first dib's situation. Turns out this is not the case, DGS will continue to show the dog to other people, even if you are first in line and have committed to adopting the dog. It was explained that it's their goal to place the dog in the best possible situation. I can respect this; however this policy is different than I have encountered with other agencies and should have been clearly communicated to me. Bonding with a dog is a very emotional experience. I had visited with the dog on 2 separate occasions within a 5 day window and communicated over email covering a span of 10 days. During my second visit I found out from the foster mom that they were continuing to show the dog to others. This caught me off guard given all the interest I had shown. Not cool. As a responsible individual who lives in a good part of town, owns a house, has a fenced yard, takes my dogs on all kinds of active adventures, and has 18 years of experience with Pittys, I would think I would be a top candidate to adopt. Instead the representative did not inquire about any of that and focused in on the fact that I mentioned in my application I would leave the dog home alone while I was at work. I was asked if I would commit to getting a dog walker and I said I would "consider it". (I'm not going to lie and say yes just to appease) If a dog has special needs such as separation anxiety and needs to be walked during the day as stipulation of the adoption, that should clearly be stated in the ad or communicated when a person first makes contact about the dog. It's my perception that because my answer regarding this was not acceptable coupled with the fact I broke protocol at the beginning, the representative basically made up their mind I was their 'second choice' to adopt the dog. Which is their right but don't let me go on a another visit and continue to get emotionally attached to the dog if your probably not going to adopt to me. Not cool. In my case, the foster mom had adopted a dog from this same DGS representative last fall. She's in her late 30's and had never owned a dog in her life. The Pit bull was dropped off at her house sight unseen with one days' notice. It appears when there is a lot of interest in a dog they will handle the situation differently than if they need to desperately find a home. Having 2 different standards is not cool. In my opinion, if someone is a responsible person and meets the basic standards for adoption then the first come first model should be applied. Long story short; once it sunk in I was on a 'waiting list', I chose to completely dismiss myself from the situation as I wouldn't have felt comfortable getting into an adoption agreement with this organization given my experience. I am giving this review two stars instead of one because in the end, the representative did apologize for upsetting me which I appreciated. I understand they have a lot going on and sometimes communication can break down. If one set of standards that apply to all adoptions is established and foster parents are made aware of the rules, I believe DGS can avoid these issues in the future. read more

I adopted my sweet 2 year old terrier mix, Grover, from Dog Gone Seattle about 2 months ago and I found the experience of working with this organization very frustrating. I applied for and met 2 other dogs before finding Grover. During this process, there were exceedingly long wait times between emails with case managers and adoption coordinators. After meeting the first and second dogs, I emailed the adoption coordinator, Justyna, to say that I was interested in moving forward with the adoption process, but then I wouldn't receive a response for 4-5 days and then it would be to tell me that the dogs had been adopted by other families. I understand that this organization aims to match dogs with a home that best fits them, but when I requested a second meeting with the first dog I applied for so that my partner could meet the dog, they informed me that they had already selected a family. Based on this information, I did not really feel that my home was considered. When I expressed interest in meeting other dogs, Justyna often wouldn't respond for another 4-5 days. At one point it was a whole week before I heard back. I understand that this is a volunteer run organization, but the poor communication made this experience much more frustrating than it needed to be. When I finally met Grover, the foster mom let me know that he had been having some "tummy troubles" since he arrived from CA a few weeks before, but that they were improving. After adopting him and bringing him home, I realized that these "troubles" were worse than I had been led to believe. I took Grover to my vet and they found that he had a very bad case of Giardia. I was pretty frustrated with this news because I knew that Grover had been in the care of this organization for over a month and they had failed to ensure he was healthy before adopting him out. Additionally, they put Cricket and other dogs (the foster parent's dog) at risk when addressing the issue was as simple as a fecal sample. I am giving them 2 stars because I know they are well-intentioned people who care about the lives of these pups, but I do not recommend adopting through this organization. Literally the single best rescue in the are. YES they do require a ton of info etc to apply to meet a dog but I wouldn't have it any other way. These are rescue dogs who deserve to go the best homes and everyone should understand that being "vetted" is a part of this process. I noted that some people have commented it takes a long time for them to receive responses on their dogs. That is ridiculous! I know this organization is 100% volunteer based. They don't have full time employees that can answer emails all day everyday. I can take a week to be able to get through all the emails and applications which is understandable since everyone has families, jobs, and lives! I started fostering for DGS after the loss of our beloved Boots to cancer. We just weren't ready for a full time dog but wanted to be of help where we could, so we worked with DGS to help foster! The absolute best decision of our lives. You learn a ton about dogs from this wonderful team of people and it feels amazing to be truly selfless and see these beautiful dogs recover in your home! We tell all our friends and family how well this foster based system is organized. They have the process down to a science and let me tell you this is not easy.. flying dogs up from high kill shelters, meeting them at the airport for pickup, vet visits, training, finding fosters, and screening for the absolute best fit for the animal the list goes on and on... I have personally seen them take a highly anxiety dog that was set to be euthanized, get 3 different trainers involved and countless hours to give this dog every chance possible of having a loving forever home. To say they have their heart in the right place is an understatement! We are on our 4th foster with them and although it is hard to say goodbye, it is so rewarding to see the dog and new owners so happy! We just "foster failed" recently too ( AKA where you fall sooooo in love with the dog you can't possibly let it go so you adopt!) The dogs that come thru DGS are already great dogs, they just need some love and some time to recover. If you can't adopt, foster! If you are adopting thru DGS please take the time and respect the process, as it is there for very good reason. I have not had any hiccups with this process and each adoption and been smooth as silk! This is one of the best organizations I have had the pleasure of dealing with, not only did they take the time to help me find my perfect dog, but when I started to have behavior problems they worked with me on correcting them. They were available for training and nutrition questions and wanted Stevie to be the best dog he could be. My wife and I adopted a sweet 6 month old boxer-pit bull mix named Ruby through Dog Gone Seattle a month ago and had a wonderful experience working with them. We completed an application, which was very thorough and made us consider various events and how we would handle them. I appreciated the thought required to put in an application so it would be difficult to apply without being serious, which serves all parties involved. Jenny, the rescue coordinator, was very responsive and put us into contact with the foster owner, Tamara, who became a great resource for us as well throughout the process. They provided tips and recommendations on food, vets, training, and all the dog-related gear we would need to be successful. We scheduled a meet-and-greet with the pup at the foster's house and spent 2 hours with Ruby and with Tamara figuring out both if we would be a good fit for Ruby, and if she would be a good fit for us. All the people at Dog Gone Seattle we interacted with truly love the animals they rescue and want nothing but the best for them. They've encouraged us to provide them updates on our progress and how Ruby is settling in, and Tamara, the foster owner, has been a huge help in providing us with ongoing advice. We can't thank Dog Gone Seattle enough for the work they are doing in saving these dogs or for giving us the opportunity to give a dog in need a loving home. I rarely write reviews on businesses but i felt compelled after reading some unflattering comments about this rescue group. I have adopted 2 dogs from DGS and i have received nothing but great advice, counseling and support as i learned to work with 2 dogs that required alot more training and effort than my previous dog. This group tries very hard to match lifestyles with pups and therefore scrutinize applicants to make sure you don't end up with a pup that doesn't fit and you end up returning it. Their response time to emails can be slow but that's because they are literally working 24/7 rescuing a continual flow of dogs facing euthanasia or worse. The tireless fosters help train and rehabilitate these dogs and they have a vested interest in placing them in the right environment based on their knowledge of their specific dog.
