This center is outstanding. I have boarded, my dog, Winston on numerous occasions, and he went through their program. The staff is wonderful and so kind to my dog. They are so nice to him, and keep me informed of his progress, and send me photographs of him and his friends. They are so loving and kind. I can't explain how happy I am with them. My dog normally doesn't like to travel, but when I take him there he is so happy to be there. Their training program is also outstanding. He did so well, and the trainer was so nice and outstanding. I'm from WA state and have been searching for a training facility for YEARS. I have a reactive dog who has been kicked out of daycare and is very reactive on walks and in the home. I couldn't find a facility that felt good for us and didn't use e-collars. That all changed when I moved to Boise and happened upon Dog Retreat Center! Touring the center, I immediately felt comfortable. Relaxed environment, lots of staff with the dogs, someone who stays overnight, and kind/well educated staff. They take in many dogs who have been kicked out of daycare and/or bite risks. They took such good care of my 4yo pitty. 21 days is a long time to leave your pet child, but they sent me daily updates with texts about how he was doing and pictures. When I went to the center when training was done, I had 60 minutes alone with a trainer to go over and learn new practices. Then 30 minutes to practice what I learned on my dog. I was totally expecting just dropping him off and picking him up... but nope!!!!... the 21 day camp comes with 3 90 minute lessons. Wooo!!! It's currently 2 days post training and I've already noticed a huge difference in the home. He doesn't control the space, he has yet to react to anything outside, and his energy is a lot more calm/confident. We are taking it slow with walks in high-distraction areas. We still have 2 in-home lessons and I'm excited to see where they take us! I love that they also do daycare and boarding. I will definitely be taking him back here! Love this place. I got the 10 day training for my pup Luna. She has a bad pulling problem on the leash, but Zen has been an amazing trainer for her. She is more well behaved at home than before, and I'm excited to get her more training sessions and into doggy day care with her friends once our 10 day sessions are up. Learning for ALL of us!! Thanks to Teri, d'Andra and their awesome team, the humans in our house have probably learned way more than the dogs have-- and THAT's what has FINALLY brought the changes we all needed. Our highly reactive, chihuahua-blend rescue, along with our too-cool-for-school mature dachshund, have been running things around here. On the surface, the humans brought some order to the household. But when certain triggers caused eruptions of barking, lunging and laser-like focus on imaginary threats, we were useless. Q was a danger to herself and others, and P was egging her on. And, this, despite having years and $ of training classes, books, seminars, workshops under our belts...we were not getting through. We needed help. After much research, we got in touch with d'Andra (sort of the GM). From our first emails, she was warm and understanding, there to help, organized and responsive. And then... It's clear from the very first visit: Teri's entire being (it's a vibe, no denying it) is about understanding -- the dogs, their behaviors, their humans (and their behaviors!), the environment, the stimuli. We feel like this is not just a career for Teri--this is her calling. Her insights and the subtleties she notes are forehead-smacking. On top of that, there is a serenity, and calm, and a compassion surrounding her, and our girls seem feel it. Teri explained what our pups were telling us, that we hadn't heard. She saw how the dogs influenced each other, in ways we hadn't noticed. She showed us how and what we unwittingly communicate to Q and P, but also taught us how to use new "language" better work with them. Her methods are gentle, introspective, but also very practical and realistic. Teri (and the other trainers we've met) approached each dog very individually -- even though the methods are consistent for each, we felt that they took the time to understand each of our dog's position, issues, and personality. We noticed changes immediately--Q responded to the gentle steps right way. With further private training sessions and faithful practice, our problem child has made dramatic progress. As have we humans. It's not over, and it'll be a process, but we are all looking forward to it. Q seems to genuinely enjoy the learning experience--and we humans are so happy to see her calmer, less agitated, less defensive. P is more relaxed too! We also enroll Q in daycare+train; the exposure to other dogs and people, as well as the addition training, have been invaluable. Kelsey has been great with "drop off" issues among other training challenges, and communicating during the day. d'Andra is fantastic to work with. She knows what's going on with Q, what's happened in her training sessions, does whatever she can on her end to help us schedule and train, and is on top of it all. Phone, email, text -- it's all available and used frequently. We get texts when Q is at daycare. We get a report on her training for the day. (And what a facility! So comfy. So clean. So safe. We won't hesitate to overnight-board our girls there too.) Teri, d'Andra, and team are also extremely positive, encouraging and understanding of both human and canine foibles. Through carefully individualized, thoughtful and specific plans, together with a blend of empathetic-yet-realistic, step-by-step methods, they are teaching us how to penetrate the layers to create changes. One more thing...we hope to continue with Teri, d'Andra and everyone at the Dog Retreat Center for a long time. We can see that their training experience will be beneficial throughout our pooches' lives. And besides, Q just seems happier when she gets to be around these guys....and so are we! read more

There are times a few times in life when you have the comfort of knowing you are in the best hands during hard times. The dog retreat center has always been there with open arms. We have a very stubborn, big, Olde English Bulldogge that the dog retreat center has transformed into a wonderful love bug. He has given them a good challenge, but they are steady and mindful and keep him in his lane at all times. Along with that, they have always been there for us, I've had many changes in boarding dates, over and over, and they always have been so kind and easy to work with. We recently had a family emergency that swept us away in a moments notice, on a holiday weekend, De Andre' said bring him right in for overnight boarding. She made it so we were able to make it to our brothers bedside before he passed. I cannot repay her enough for this act of kindness I can't say enough about how they have made our lives with a Bulldogge so much easier. They love our BamBam, and we love the ! I would highly recommend Teri and her team if you're serious about your relationship with your dogs and their behavior. My wife and I have 2 dogs, one which had some more aggressive tendencies. It got to the point where it stressed us out to have the dogs out in the backyard, around people, etc. I talked with many dog trainers and most sounded pretty generic. I started reading Teri's backstory and it really interested me. After a consultation, we knew Teri was an excellent choice. Both of our dogs responded to her methods and were perfectly behaved after a few sessions. Teri demonstrated different ways to achieve our goals and then worked with us to achieve those same results. She also worked to get one of our dogs more comfortable with our little girl which was of great importance to us. I can't tell you how much better we feel about our dogs now knowing we can trust them on walks, hanging out in the front or back yard, and around people in general! We have a Lakeland Terrier puppy. He is the highlight of my life, the reason I get up in the morning and put in a full day at work, the cute in my coffee. Wilson makes my stone-cold, hard, empty heart melt. However, Wilson was at the rebellious "teen-age" stage and about to spiral out of control, turning to a life of drugs, drink and pillow-humping. Well, it was more like pulling on the lead, barking, and a tendency to chase down small children that squealed and ran. Oh boy. We contacted Teri and made an appointment for one day after work. She came over and listened to our concerns. She watched us interact with Wilson. Then she had us sit in the corner while she interacted with Wilson. She suggested some new techniques to overwrite Wilson's burgeoning bad behavior. She even had two of her dogs in her car so we could work on Wilson's barking behavior. Amazing. In the end, Teri's message was that Wilson needs to respect the person AND the command. Yes, that little teddy bear was starting to think he was the smarter one in the family. She taught us to put down the treats and still have Wilson obey the commands. She also reminded us that we need to be consistent, serious, focused, and fair when we practice obedience with Wilson. Thanks to Teri, Wilson is no longer in danger of turning into a canine Lindsey Lohan/Kim Kardashian. He is a well-behaved, attentive, loving puppy with a slight affinity for cheese and dryer sheets (who knew?). He walks so prettily and his barking is under control. We can go on walks off-lead. When it comes to any type of lesson, some things stick and some things don't. We are very happy with the results and the things that stuck have changed Wilson's behavior in the best possible way. read more

I've never had a dog walker for my black lab Bella, and now I can't believe I had not started sooner. Think about it, people. And be realistic. Unfortunately, we have jobs and our pups wait patiently for us at home everyday. Imagine if your life consisted of waking up, eating, pooping, eating, and sleeping. And if you're lucky, you would get to play a little fetch after your owner gets home from a long day of work. If you're in Seattle, 9 months out of the year it's dark before your owner goes to work, and dark by the time they get back home. I am so grateful I found Teri, but my Bella is missing her walks and hikes dearly. 5 stars isn't enough for the great expertise and personal care that we experienced from d'Andra and Kelsey and the whole crew at the Dog Retreat Center. After 6 months of hundreds of YouTube videos, special harnesses and getting nowhere on our own with our rescue havanese Harper, we reached out for help. Thanks to the reviews on Yelp, we called the Dog Retreat Center. It took a few weeks to get in but it was SO WORTH IT!! They worked a miracle. We couldn't take Harper for a walk (which we love to do) because she would lose her mind when we saw another dog. It was embarrassing and stressed both Harper and us out. In 3 short weeks of training, they did it. They cracked the code, we now walk every day with Harper and she does amazing. They are professional and affordable and we have seen exponential growth with our Gooseberry. He was extremely reactive with dogs, lunging, screaming, and pulling. Through a lot of patience Teri, d'Andra, and the rest of the DRC have helped Gooseberry become such a sweet dog. Teri and d'Andra make a great team. The friend that referred me had them saved in her phone as "the dog whisperer" and it's true. Teri came to my house so we could train my dog in her element, where much of the problem behavior was occurring. Broke down our goals into four easy steps and taught me a lot about dog behavior and training approaches that I was surprised to not have come across with previous trainers and just having been a dog owner most of life. I'm not shy to admit, I'm the one who needed training! My dog was 3yo when we adopted her and came with a lot of bad habits, but she was eager to learn, and is a lot less anxious with the order that Teri has helped teach. After months of trying group training, and a different personal trainer, I now have confidence we're on a good path, after only 3 visits. Im not a yelper. You may have already gathered that glancing at my profile, but in this case I felt it was more than deserved. First things first, Teri is, hands down, a godsend. 9 Months ago my boyfriend an I adopted a 6 month old shepard pit mix named Birdie. It was our first dog together as well as separately. We knew we were in for a bit of work adopting a puppy, but soon found out we were in for a whole lot more having adopted an unsocialized, prey driven, proud dog that went from 37 pounds to 62 these 9 months... not an easy combo for two greenhorns.Teri has been an integral part of our dog and human training. Her dedication to Birdie was as deep as ours, and it has been obvious countless times that she truly sees the potential of our little nut (and our potential as well). Teri, using multiple custom tailored techniques, helped us go from an almost out of control situation to one of obedience and respect. Bird is happier. we are happier. You cant ask for more than that. Birdie is only 13 months now and more obedient than most dogs we encounter. Although I have only known Teri for a few months, she has completely changed my mind about the effectiveness of "dog training" and has helped us make leaps and bounds with our boxer. We thought he was destined to never get along with other dogs, but after a few training sessions with Teri, we now look forward to taking him to the dog park and bringing him along to friends homes where he can play with their pups. Legendary Teri holds up to every ounce her Legendary name. She has been the best thing for our dog Luna. Not only did she help train Luna but she took her out to the park and on walks and hikes several time a week. There isn't anyone I would trust more to take care of our dog.
