Conjunctivitis I have 3 dogs, they generally play with each other at home and in my yard. For the first time, I decided to leave two of them with a kennel. The day before I left, I brought them all into the vet for a 'wellness check'. One week later, I return to find one of them had goopy green stuff coming out of both eyes. My Vet said 'either bacterial or viral conjunctivitis' (pink eye) The response from Escape the Crate "it could not have happened here" "it might be allergies" "you signed a form" Given my dog has never been sick before, never been around a sick dog, was healthy before checking in ... I disagree. This infection didn't just happen by itself. Since there was nowhere else they could have caught it - the disease MUST BE at Escape the Crate. The really scary part is that despite what happened to me and my dog - they are not taking steps to warn the people owning the dogs there right now. Nice people - but questionable policies from owner. read more

We've boarded our puppy twice over two weekends and are thrilled with the way the staff cares for him. The team is always so friendly. Our pup is always so tired when we pick him up after playing all day with friends. We also love that they have webcams anytime we want to check in our pup. I wanted to like this place as it's close to our home. I bought a package and used the days sporadically as we needed them. I kept track and knew we were down to one day...and took my dogs. They charged me a full day...when I asked why, she told me that my package had expired. Really? They couldn't have told me that packages have expiration dates when I bought them? They couldn't call me and tell me that my package was expiring? Apparently no for both questions. After a period of a couple years, I wanted to try and take my dogs there again. They wanted me to do a meet and greet - even though they've been there before. Ok...they wanted my credit card # for the reservation. Weird, but ok...it might just be a CC to hold the spots. Nope, every other place doggie daycare place has free meet and greet. Nope, I got charged for the 4 hours my dogs were there for a "meet and greet" when had been there before!!! I did get a report card that they did fine...yes, I know, my dogs were fine, my three have been going to various daycares on and off for more than 10 years. Escape the Crate is still close so when they sent me an email to update my dogs vaccinations and profiles I did so and tried to make a reservation on their website. It wouldn't take the reservation, the site kept returning me to page one. So I called, got their voicemail and I left a voicemail asking for a reservation for my dogs and to call me back. That was 4 days ago. That was it for me. The Escape the Crate people at the Elise location are grifters. They have a bunch of good reviews here on Yelp but it wouldn't surprise me at all if they were written by employees. They may be good with dogs but they're horrible with dog owners. That in itself means I give them a hard pass and encourage all who read this to do so as well. read more

When I came to the facility as a first time client, I wanted to know how I would know my dog was okay since it was his first time at a doggy day care. The employee at the front told me that all of the webcams were not working for the entire day. She then told me that if I wanted them to take pictures of my dog to text to me, that would be $2. Even though a service like that should be free since the webcams aren't even working, I was worried about my dog, so I decided to opt for the $2 "scrapbook." I wish I could have seen more of the facility or at least more pictures of the facility either online or in some sort of brochure at the front desk. After picking up my dog, I gave my credit card to the same employee and tried to confirm that the total was $29 ($27 full-day day care + $2 scrapbook). She tells me the total is $31.50. When I asked her why, she said the scrap was now $4.50 even though she herself told me it was $2 earlier that day when she offered the service to me, AND it was written as $2 on the board behind her. When I asked her why there was a sudden increase in price, she had no explanation. From what I recall, her answer was something like "I'm not sure, but it's now $4.50." Even though she did end up only charging me $2 (and sure, an extra $2.50 is not a lot of money), the only reason she ended up charging me the correct price is because I contested the total. If I had just given her my credit card without checking the total, she would have just charged me extra without even letting me know. She let my dog out to the reception area without his leash and collar. She asked me if he came with one, and when I said he did, she went to the back to look for it. She came back and told me another employee gave his leash, collar, (and poop dispenser with a full bag of poop bags) to someone else. She let me know that I can come back tomorrow to pick it up. When I told her I needed to walk him tonight, she gave me someone else's collar and leash to use (without poop dispenser or bags). That night, my dog had diarrhea while riding in my husband's car (which has NEVER happened), then proceeded to wake me up throughout the night in order to be let out for a walk because he had diarrhea. I can't say 100% that it was because of his stay here because I didn't have access to video monitoring and I obviously wasn't there to supervise him, but I find it disconcerting that after a day at Escape, he'd have such extreme stomach problems. Finally, Escape has an automated email that asks clients to give them feedback. I wrote much of what I wrote in this review (save the diarrhea part, which happened after I emailed them my survey), and I have yet to receive any sort of follow up. This place has many great reviews (which led me to use their services in the first place), so I'm sure many of their clients enjoy their dogs' stay here, but personally for me, my experience will keep me from ever going back. read more

We had taken Rosi (actually Philips granddaughter) here last year.. she loved it.. they were nice and accomodating.. she was exhausted .. yeah.. So we bring Philip into our home 3 months ago.. Coming to Boise in December, and wanted to board him for a night while we went to a party.. Everything was smooth, sent all the records, they TOOK the Deposit.. then a really snotty lady on the phone, said he "could not come" because they had to do a meet and greet - I get it.. thats why on the reservation I put Meet and Greet - then after Board and Day Care.. (he goes to doggy day care when we go to Reno for Drs appt and trips) She said when are you coming before the December date, hmmmm don't know its 6 hours away - no plans.. thats why I made this plan... I understand rules - but the snotty behavior of this women was horrifying.. she was so rude.. I mean my co-worker could hear her on my cell phone she was so loud... They take care of your dog very well. The staff recognize what kind of playfulness your dog has, so they will place your dog with others that are similar. We love this place, and more importantly, so does our Great Dane. Excellent facility for both day Care and overnight stays if you need boarding. They have both indoor and outdoor rec areas for the dogs. Excellent staff that really plays with the dogs, and most importantly, they love dogs. The owners are awesome, and very friendly. Previously we would always have him stay with relatives, or have someone come to our house to watch him if needed, because most kennel situations are horrible. They won't let them have toys, and they actually charge you extra just to let them out for 30 minutes a day. I would never leave my dog in that situation. Now I don't have to worry because I know he will be having just as much fun as we are while he stays there. Highly recommend this place if you are in the need of of daily or overnight dog services. read more

Hands down best place to take your dogs. The owner and employees really care about your dogs health. They even have a live video feed to watch your fur kids! I am a worry women when it comes to my pups and I am comfortable leaving mine in their hands! They have a very safe environment and always are playing with the pups. I have a now 5 month old pup and have been taking her to puppy play classes there to help her learn to interact with other dogs in a non aggressive way and I would recommend it to anyone!!! read more

This is the ONLY place in the Valley that we will take our dogs too. Being that our dogs are like our kids, we expect outstanding care when it comes to leaving them with someone. Michelle (the owner), has really impressed us with her customer service and facility. The dogs are only crated at night and to eat. Mind you, the "crates" are more like a very small dog run - and less "jail-like", which we prefer. They have large, sectioned off, air conditioned areas for different sizes of dogs inside. There is also an outdoor area with sprinklers, pools, shade, grass (fake, I think), and tons of toys. There are always employees cleaning or interacting with the dogs when we have been there. They also offer baths, nail clipping, etc. Great place - we love and it recommend it to everyone with dogs! read more

Our 6-year old Pekingese absolutely loves it at Escape the Crate. My husband and I recently moved to Boise and with work and leisure travel, we needed a reliable place for Carlos to stay - previously he always stayed with family, but having just moved here, that is no longer an option. Having never boarded him before, I was nervous, but ETC is wonderful. Carlos loves the staff (he is more likely to make friends with humans than with other dogs :)) and I have noticed he is more social since he started staying there. He is happy when we drop him off and he is exhausted and happy when we pick him up - plus I can check in on him while we are away using the dog-cam on the website. read more

I have taken my dog here at least 50 times for doggie day care and boarding. He loves it here. The staff know all of the dogs names and group the dogs based upon size/energy/tolerance etc. So a big dog maybe with the little dogs because they get along; the big dog is mellow and doesn't really like playing with other big dogs. its about the temperament and compatibility. My dog comes home absolutely exhausted after playing for half a day. I take her once a week for social interraction with othere dogs and to let her run to her heart's content. This daycare is really top rate, they monitor the dogs well and all dogs seem very happy to be there. My dog gets so excited when we head out in that direction. My high-energy husky absolutely loves Escape the Crate! He always comes home completely tuckered out and very, very happy. All the staff here are amazing; they know my dog by name and have cute nicknames for him. I know that the individual attention he gets is fantastic, and the prices are very reasonable for the area. The staff are always relaxed and helpful. I like that there's a webcam so I can keep an eye on my pup while I'm at work. Dogs are also sorted mainly by temperament, so I can be assured that my pup is always with other happy, energetic, and friendly dogs. My only teeny, tiny criticism is that sometimes there isn't a staff person at the desk. While I super appreciate that all the staff is so devoted to caring, monitoring, and playing with the dogs, it would be nice to have a doorbell or something to alert someone when there's a customer in the lobby. I have taken my pups to Escape for several years. I always bought the 10 half-day visits. I have NEVER been told that the packet has to be used within 9 months. I have NEVER been contacted to be reminded that my purchased visits will be expiring. Last weekend I took my dogs in and was told that my 6 remaining visits had expired. I was told this information was in the terms and conditions I signed many years ago. Apparently I should have remembered this tidbit. It had been more than a year since I last visited. If you decide to use Escape, make sure you understand all the terms and conditions or it could bite you too. read more

Our nine year old labradoodle loves this place. In fact, he starts to squeal as we approach the building. When we finally make it inside, he can't sit still waiting for someone to take him to be with the other dogs. By the time we pick him up about a week later, he's lost a few pounds because he's been so active during the day. If I could give this place a -10 stars review I would. I have never written a negative review on any business before even if the service was sup-bar. But for this certain situation, I am compelled to write one for Escape Canine Retreat & Spa in Boise, ID. I am a potential customer calling around looking for boarding for my 2 dogs for a weekend trip. I called yesterday, gave the dates, & Emma, (I believe she may be the owner), stated they do have availability for either group or private sections. I chose the private option (Joplin location) instead & asked if she could take my reservation over the phone. She said she couldn't and said I have to register online. Since I was work, I asked again if she could just please help me out, take my info due to time constraints and was afraid that my spot would be taken. I have called several places already that were booked. She refused but said it with such an overt annoyed tone in her voice. I just let it go, followed her directions, went online 5 minutes later but couldn't register as the link for new customers wasn't working. As soon as I was able to, I called back & spoke w/ Jada, I explained the situation. Due to the circumstance initially, she said they could've & should've taken my reservations over the phone. And more so, that they have been having technical difficulties w/ their website & cameras. But of course, the selected dates were now full. She said she will speak to a manager & will try to accommodate me since I should've had a reservation to begin with. Emma called back today, stated that at the time she originally spoke to me, they really didn't have any openings & that those dates for private play time were already booked. But yesterday, why would she confirmed that they do have a spot for their Joplin location?? She offered group instead but I have to bring in my dogs & pay additional fees ($25 or $30 per dog on top the daily rate) for an initial meet up. I explained that I was on a budget & had a lack of time. The whole point of choosing the private option was to save on those additional fees & be able to drop off my dogs for just the 2 night stay. Then to insult me further, she said that she did offer to take my reservation over the phone yesterday and I should taken it but had refused, now they're booked. First of all, I thought they didn't have any openings for the privation option & now their booked??? Seriously??? Normally, I would just let this go and would've just moved on. But the fact, she rudely tried to blame me for their incompetence just took it to another level that I couldn't ignore. I had asked her TWICE yesterday but she refused to help me & couldn't wait to get me off the phone. Needless to say, I am extremely upset. But instead of apologizing at this point, she just kept telling me she didn't appreciate my tone. I just kept thinking I don't appreciate her tone from the beginning and lack of customer service. I advised that they really look into learning and practicing better people skills. In addition, they should fix the link on their website and cameras (as mention by their staff). Despite this, I am glad I had found about them before I dropped off my dogs. If they treat their potential customers this way, how will they treat our beloved pets when we're not on site & can't see what's happening? Others may have different experiences, but they certainly left a really bad and lasting first impression. I will never use them and will share my experience with others!! read more
