Dog Zone, how do I love thee! We did not fully understand what it meant to train our dog but knew it was important. Like many people, however, we were thinking, "Sit, stay, come, down, off, no." Ha! Command words are super important, but we had no idea what real dog training involved. Our sweet Sayla came from a shelter and while she did not have any really bad behavior, she needed to learn essential skills to live in the real world and not create havoc in ours. Kelly took time to evaluate Sayla to better understand her needs and ours and put together a training program to fit. She was great about keeping us informed about successes, challenges, personality quirks, etc. throughout the process, which helped us to understand how to be better parents at home. Kelly also trained us in how to continue the training at home to ensure success and was so good at answering questions. While I realize it is different for every dog, in just 4 weeks' time, Kelly, Lori and Ronda transformed Sayla from a sometimes shy, scared, non-listening, barking/pulling crazy fur-girl to a well-behaved, confident, listening superstar! Not only did they teach her essential skills to exist in our world, the confidence and enrichment training taught Sayla to trust us more, how to not be so reactive and how to just be a dog. Dog Zone! I respect and appreciate the work you do so very much. From day 1 when I called to inquire about your training and day care I felt cared for and that any and all questions asked weren't too much or silly. We were blessed with a sweet and oh so confident puppy that was giving us a run for our money. We needed help to give him the best life and to keep us sane. Sarah spent 40 minutes on the phone with me sharing many tips to start with my puppy right away. She quickly got our puppy in for an evaluation. A full written report was given to help us understand what type of training would best support our puppy and our family. Communication is one of their greatest gifts. They keep the owner up to date with videos, pictures and daily doggie day care reports. How great is that? They ask what issues you are seeing and quickly work with you to correct these behaviors. Everything these women do is done with love. Our puppy is only 5 months old and he has learned obedience, loose leash walking, manners and many commands to make our days at home happy and safe. These women train your dog AND educate the family. They offer training sessions with family and dog and are ALWAYS available and willing to answer questions or come up with ideas to help correct behaviors. You can easily see the respect they have for one another and how well they all work together. Our puppy can't wait to attend day care every week. He comes home happy (and tired). He comes home with manners and obedience. He tries so hard to push it with us, but are now equipped with how to honor his dog instincts and also keep him in a good healthy set of boundaries. I have been bringing my husky Misha to Dog Zone for almost three years now and I cannot say enough good things. The staff is outstanding. I got Misha when he was 9 months. Because he was being rehomed, I wanted to make sure we were on the same page. I enrolled him in Dog Zone's two week stay and train program. It was money well spent. They trained him and then helped me to be a better owner. I also enrolled Misha in doggy day care. After evaluating him to see if he was a good fit, Misha started going three days a week. Without that regular interaction, he would go crazy at home by himself. I have also taken several obedience classes in the evenings. These were great refreshers for both of us and a lot of fun too. In addition, I have had the groomers give him a bath and give his nails and paws a regular trim. The Dog Zone staff are all excellent and I never worry about him when he is there. Misha is always excited when we get there and always happy when I pick him up in the evening. Five stars! Would totally recommend! read more

My puppy started going to daycare at Dog Zone weekly for socialization. Each week Ellie was excited to go to daycare and came home very tired. After a while, I wanted to be able to take her to my office so she could offer therapeutic support to my clients, but she needed to be very well trained for that. I was apprehensive about leaving her for training but after meeting with Sarah and seeing how passionate she is about dogs and their families, I felt confident that Ellie would be well cared for. Although I missed her, I knew she was happy and learning so much! It also helped that I received pictures and videos of her regularly throughout training. Towards the end of her training Rhonda asked me to join them so she could show me how to continue working with Ellie at home, offering individualized recommendations. When training is done, they encourage people to reach out, and have been happy to help when I have. When you see them around the dogs, it is clear they all truly love what they do. Ellie continues to attend daycare weekly and absolutely loves to see them all. Just a few of the things she learned are walking respectfully on a leash, "leave it" and "place". We started taking our 2year old male golden retriever to Dog Zone in February. From day one, we never felt he was very welcomed and we didn't feel welcomed either as his owners. Every small conversation that we had with them, we always left feeling talked down to and like we didn't know what we were doing as his owners. When we would drop him off to Kelly some of the days, she always had an attitude and was very dull with our dog. She never seemed excited to see him or have him there or called him by name. The final straw came when we were 6 months in to him going to daycare and we were approached by the owner for the first time with a complaint. She basically told us that our dog was too much for them to handle. If you know anything about goldens, they are very high energy and that is the reason we were taking him to daycare. In order for him to be allowed back the following week, we would have had to pay $1200 for them to "leash train" him and teach him to "be calm". Our dog is trained with an e-collar, so there is no reason for us to put him through "leash training". However, there was no compromise even when we told them this. There was also zero warning about this ahead of time or discussed in the 6 months leading up to this. It seems as though they only care about the money as it was never an issue until now. Unless you have a perfect dog, I would not recommend Dog Zone to anyone. read more

I'd like to tell my story about two first time dog owners in the hopes I can illustrate how Dog Zone is the best place in the area to help you take care of your pup. In April of 2013, my boyfriend and I decided to bring a puppy into our home. After looking online for several days we drove to see two puppies who were found starving in the woods. With much excitement, we picked our girl, and brought her home. As two first time dog owners, we soon realized we were in over our heads. We found a local trainer online to come to our home to teach us how to handle our crazy girl. By the end of our training we were promised we'd have a Certified 5 Star Puppy. Needless to say training didn't go as planned. By the end of our six sessions we were offered our money back, and told if it was really important to us, we could "fudge" the 5 Star Puppy test. Disappointed, but not ready to give up on our girl, we came crawling into Dog Zone with our tails between our legs. After explaining our story to the kind lady at the front desk, she assured me we were in the right place. We began our journey with Dog Zone with one day at Doggy Day Camp which ended with a positive report and our spirits lifted. Over the last nearly two years, she has been a regular at Doggy Day Camp (and to be clear, some weeks not going at all) and I could not be any happier with their care. I have been so impressed with every member of the staff and ease of using this service. And not to mention, my camper who comes home tired every single time! On numerous occasions (often myself!), I have witnessed the staff speaking in the lobby with one of their clients, helping them work out any issue they are having with their dog at home. They're always willing to take time to help, and really care about each dog. Doggy Day Camp is just the tip of the iceberg on the services we've used. I'll never forget one of their trainers, Rhonda, looking at a frustrated me last summer and saying after the New Year we would have a really nice pup. Shortly after, we signed her up for a 5 day board and train program. We were so excited with the results! Recognizing that we needed training too, we continued our training with three six week training class sessions. You'll never believe it, on a cold night last winter, our girl became an AKC Certified Canine Good Citizen! It was one of our most proud moments as fur parents, and it was all made possible by the wonderful staff at Dog Zone. I'm pleased to say, our dream has come true - we are now able to share our life with our pup. She goes to the soccer games at Bailey Park, disc golfing, road trips, dog parks, tailgating, and family gatherings to name a few and we are continually complimented on how well behaved our puppy is and asked where we did her training. So if you are looking for a place to take your dog on a busy work day, or really need all of the services they have to offer, I'm confident the staff at Dog Zone will help you on your journey to have "a really nice pup." read more

Building and facility are mediocre at best compared to others we have used. Majority of the staff is rude. They completely miss that they are in a service oriented environment. I witnessed employees rough handling dogs and they completely lack that loving touch that most doggie day cares provide. There policies around pre-scheduling drop offs and mandating once per week attendance all come across grounded in being money hungry rather than truthfully interested in maintaining a loving connection with their clients pets. Bottom line, somthing did not feel right and my gut told me our pet was safer and better off else where. We used them for a few months given there are no other choices in Battle Creek. I would not recommend this facility until the staff changes. read more

Even though we've had many dogs, we knew we might be in over our heads with our new puppy, Dante. He was sweet, but also a bitey little land shark who didn't acknowledge us much at all and was tormenting our two patient older dogs. We did the Board and Train program at Dog Zone, and I was shocked to see him sitting on "his place" attentively waiting when I came to pick him up! He learned so much, is listening to us, and is significantly more affectionate as well. Hats off to Kelly and everyone at Dog Zone. My dog and I moved to Michigan over a year ago and we were looking at some options for a supplemental day care as I live in Kazoo and commute daily to BC. I was able to find a wonderful day care and boarding facility in Otsego who is flexible and understanding of my frequent work travel but is not always convenient for daycare as it is not on the way to work. I found this place on yelp and decided I would like to give this place a try. I was told that unless I plan on coming once a week, we are not welcome there and best suited to find another daycare. I find that quite unreasonable as I did ask what happens on weeks when I'm traveling for work or vacation and was again told, that we would not be welcome. OK, thats fine. I will take my business elsewhere. read more

I dropped both my girls off at Dog zone, they have been to day cares such as wagon tails before, but dog zone is a lot closer to my home. Well never the less the staff was rude, I had to reschedule my dogs drop off three weeks in a row. Finally when I came in for my apt they didn't even have me written down. To make matters worse the girl who does the evaluation process was extremely rude and straight up told me they had a ton of dogs already and since mine were a bit older and didn't grow up doing to day cares they probably wouldn't be allowed back. I should have left then but I didn't.. Then The evaluation fee that they told me was $35 went all the way up to $40, again I should have said never mind and took my dogs but no.. I decided they needed to do this and have fun! So I go to pick my girls up and the evaluation girl comes out and tells me my husky will not be welcomed back because she was sniffing around the fence instead of playing with other dogs and she was attached to her sister, our golden retriever.. Ugh they are sisters no shit they liked to hang out... What a waste of money.. I will stick to wagon tails from now on. read more

I have been taking my very energetic dog, Molly P, to Dog Zone for over a year and am very happy with them. They treat my dog with loving kindness and I have never known any rudeness on the part of the staff. I drop my dog off in the morning when we get to it, no 'prescheduled' time as the previous review states. My dog loves to come, all I have to do is day Doggie Day Care and she gets excited and happy. The staff monitors and make sure that the dogs do not fight or conflict with each other. When she comes home she is happy and exhausted due to all the play she gets at the facility. I have also used the training classes they give. My long time veterinarian brings his dog here also which is an excellent recommendation. It may not be very pretty, but my dog does not care and she loves coming to the Dog Zone and I will continue taking her here. I recommend it to my friends and anyone who asks, great place for Doggie Day Care. read more
