After our beloved senior dog crossed the rainbow bridge earlier this year and when we were finally ready to adopt another dog we scoured several area rescues looking for a dog that fit what we were looking for. We thought we found the one at Doggie Bonez. We initially reached out via the website asking for more info on a specific dog. After a day with no response, we filled out an application because we were serious about adopting and called to follow up. Our calls went unanswered and unreturned. A few days later we reached out via social media and finally got a response from a volunteer. However, everything is managed and run through Jackie so the volunteer offered to reach out to her. Several days later Jackie finally texted. We were so excited! She confirmed the dog was still available, offered to get us updated photos and coordinate with the foster family about setting up a time to meet the dog. Days went by with no reply from her. We reached out again with no reply. At this point we decided to cut our losses and move on. We had been trying to get even the most minimal information for nearly two weeks and ultimately we were ghosted. I understand being the point person for an entire rescue organization can be daunting but a simple acknowledgement that she was working on it or it was on her to do list would have gone a long way. Opening our hearts and home to another dog was a big deal for us and part of our journey to heal after loosing our best boy. Our experience with Jackie and Doggie Bonez was an emotional rollercoaster of being hopeful and excited then being let down with silence. The whole experience was traumatic for me and I would caution anyone choosing to engage with this particular rescue. These dogs deserve loving homes so I wouldn't discourage anyone from adopting but it would be remiss if I didn't share our experience. I hope we were the exception and not the rule to how this rescue is run. read more

We were absolutely devastated when we had to unexpectedly put down our 7 yr old Cammi two months ago. We were ready to open our hearts again and rescue a furbaby and reached out to Jackie at DoggieBonez. We rescued a sweet puppy that was going to be put down a few weeks ago. Jackie was amazing through this entire process. I found Doggie Bonez rescue four years ago when I was looking to adopt a new furry family member. They had a good screening process and foster program. I went to go meet my now current dog at her foster house. I took her home that day. They supplied me with toys, leash, food and collar. I named her Tonka as she is my lil low-rider tough built truck. It was not always easy with her and I considered giving her back a few times. Training and dealing with a puppy is challenging, takes time and patience. I kept reminding myself I adopted her with a vow in my heart to care for her always no matter what. I went through a few trainers until I found one that worked for both of us. I put time love and patience into Tonka. I also, right off the bat got pet insurance while she was still a puppy. It is worth the 60-70 a month as it has already paid off in unexpected vet bills. Really takes the stress off. Tonka has turned out to be the most wonderful family member. She loves her cat family. Loves, loves, loves, people. She is a quiet dog, except when someone is at the door or a troubling noise. I never worry when I am sleeping, if the cats knock something over at night, if Tonka doesn't stir, I don't worry. She is a great walk buddy and a good reason to get up and get outside. What a wonderful organization! I was fortunate enough to meet these incredible people while shopping in San Jaun Capistrano and couldn't help stop and see the dogs at an adoption event. I had no intentions of adopting a p dog but fell in love with one. Her name is Lucy. It takes a special kind of person, with a big heart to rescue animals and find them good homes instead of them suffering in the wild or in a high kill shelter. Lucy was and is in great health. Doggie Boenz started the vaccinations and pre-paid the remains boosters for us. They even arranged for the spaying surgery. I adopted Max, a sweet, nine month old mixed breed black lab pup who sadly had never been socialized. Max was very sweet, but incredibly anxious. We had been looking for two dogs that get along with each other and other dogs. San Diego's shelters have the delightful problem of a shortage of dogs needing rescue. Unfortunately, the dogs they did have none of the counselors felt would do well in multiple dog homes. So we looked outside of SD and found Doggie Bonez! Within a day, we arranged to meet two pit bull mixes. Jackie called to tell me about them and then met us at one of the pet resorts housing adoptable dogs. We first walked Toby (now Ares) and then Gypsy (now Nike); then both together. They got along fine and we brought them home. Jackie and her network of doggie saviors are doing amazing work. They take great care in understanding each pets' temperaments and fund the care of these animals solely through donations and their own money. Ares and Nike are settled in, after just a week, and having fun. Those tails wags CONSTANTLY and they just want to give us loves and kisses all the time. Doggie Bonez ask rescuers to "donate what they can afford". We'll be donating a lump sum for Ares and Nike, as well as a sustained smaller, monthly donation to help DoggieBonez continue its good works. I'd like to encourage all pet and especially pitty lovers to do the same. read more

We just rescued Cammi, a 4 yr old 37 lb. American Staffordshire Bull Terrier, from Jackie. We had a fantastic experience with the foster family when meeting Cammi and was very pleased with how the hand off of Cammi to us happened. If I could give zero stars, I would. I inquired about a dog and was told that he was "not ready". I was told to check the website and contact the rescue once he was posted. I checked each day and when the dog was posted, I reached out to inquire about the dog (again) and was ignored. I submitted an application and followed up to inquire and was told that they were "still going through applications" and that I would be contacted in 24 hours after my application was reviewed and heard nothing back. After waiting the 24 hours, I called back and found out that the dog was given a showing that day and was adopted out. My family has rescued numerous dogs from other rescues and I have NEVER been treated like this. Terrible communication throughout this entire experience on top of being lied to. I will NEVER recommend this rescue to any family or friends. read more

Be careful with this organization if you have kids. We fostered a puppy for 3 weeks and unfortunately even with tons of love and gentle training the puppy's biting got progressively worse and worse, to the point where it was grabbing my not-so-little kids by the arm and pulling and baring her teeth, growling and snapping at us every time we tried to intervene. Over the course of the 3 weeks Jackie and her team were not super responsive when I asked what to do about fleas, when her next vet appointment was etc, sometimes not responding for up to 4 days. Because of this I had to be firm about needing to have the puppy re-fostered asap, and even though my family and I were so sad about it Jackie actually gave me pushback about finding another foster and blamed the dogs behavior on my "fear and stress." Find any mother who wouldn't have fear and stress when a dog is biting her kids! We have had a pit bull from a shelter for her entire life, and have gotten several other pets from shelters or rescued them ourselves. I think this organization is doing wonderful things but at this time the management is in need of major improvements in my opinion. They seem to be overextended with what they currently have taken on. read more

I've volunteered with a few local rescues, and I feel the need to praise Doggie Bonez for their consistent honesty and care for all dogs. This is the ONLY rescue I know of, that is truly not for profit. I learned so much from Jacqueline, the founder. So many other rescues, will board dogs in horrible conditions, and vaccinate them themself... to save money, whereas Jackie will drain her private bank account to make sure the dogs are safe, and all examined by professional veterinarians. Adopting a dog from Doggie Bonez is the safest way to go. All of her dogs have been seen by the animal hospital, inspected/treated (if necessary) for fleas, ticks, had fecal exams, are microchipped, and spayed or neutered when old enough. She provides everything the adopter needs for their new family member. As she says, she likes to set the dog and the new family up for success. I highly recommend adopting from, fostering for, volunteering with, transporting for, and donating to Doggie Bonez. Best experience ever! She saves so many beautiful lives, and she's as nice as can be. read more

I wish I knew who I was speaking to on their Instagram page, short and rude. A dog I found on findapet.com and adoptapet.com "available for adoption" with description and direction to submit application. Little did I realize I followed the fostering people's Instagram page where the dog was posted 4 mins within seeing the post as it had "ADOPT ME" twice one the photo wishing the followers a merry Christmas. I immediately messaged stating I submitted an inquiry this afternoon on another website. She responded "Paco is not ready for adoption yet. His trainer said he still need training." I stated I can wait, and gave a little background information on myself former vet tech of 4 years, now work from home 100% of the time and my spouse a RVT 8+ years, head surgery tech at a neuro hospital. She opened the messaged and didn't respond. I asked how much the trainer charges and short "idk I don't handle that". I stated so he's available for adoption on 2 different website, posted for adoption but he's not ready to be adopted" and she said "correct, he's still reactive and stimuli". Let's be real, they read the book by the cover. They are entitled, and rude as fuck. Little do they know we live in Irvine, grew up in Laguna Beach and Tustin and are extremely experienced dog owners with so much love, time and knowledge to offer! THIS IS WHY PEOPLE SHOP AND DONT ADOPT. I've seen a lot of fosters like you guys come into vet clinics with stanky ass attitudes, with little to no information about dogs at all. It still all comes down to a price, I've seen everything and done everything in and out of a vet hospital, surgery, emergency, medicine, toxin, DOR, anesthesia. They push away the wrong people. Beyond ridiculous. Thanked the kinda, judge mental lady and unfollowed their fake ass Instagram page. If a dog is not ready don't blast the animal on 3 different sources. read more

Jackie is so caring and she does the absolute best job in finding your fur babies the best homes. I have had to rehome 3 of my babies, and Jackie did not stop working on them until she found them each loving homes. One female was adopted a few months before the other 2 as we had to separate the 2 females and went to an amazing loving home where she is so spoiled. And my male and female were then adopted together by an amazing family all thanks to doggie bonez. Our male had to have ACL surgery and doggie bonez completely took him under their wing, and covered all vet costs just to make sure Timmy got the surgery he needed to feel better and feel like himself again. My fiancé and I met Jackie at the 2017 OC Pet Expo where she had the Doggie Bonez booth with some adoptable dogs. We were greeted by a friendly demeanor and very welcoming personality from both Jackie and the other volunteers. After the Pet Expo I began to follow Doggie Bonez on Instagram to show support and keep my eyes on any potential doggies I would like to adopt. Several months fast forward and here we are, proud new owners of Parker (formerly known as Hope), whom we adopted from Doggie Bonez on 9/16/17. We love Parker and she is the perfect addition to our pack! Jackie had met us there, along with Mary, a foster mom and Debbie a faithful volunteer. Everyone from the rescue was so friendly, easy going and welcoming. The adoption process was exciting and fun, there was no pressure to adopt, it was a really lovely experience. Jackie is so kind to open up her heart and sacrifice all her time to helping homeless dogs in need. Jackie even made sure we were set with dog treat, food and a really nice dog bed for Parker's ride home. Jackie has kept in touch the last several days to ensure Parker is happy and well in our home.
