Unfortunately Laura's House keeps most of the nice furniture for themselves to either use in their store or forward it to another secret location. I have followed this habit of theirs now for several years and it both saddens and disappoints with this wrong practice.. So think twice when donating your loved items. Thrifting for a good cause? Don't threaten me with a good time. Laura's House in San Juan Capistrano is my favorite thrift store in this area. You can spend hours exploring their clothing, home decor, sports gear, and knickknacks. I was particularly on the market for winter wear and the men's section was a goldmine. I grabbed a GAP blue knit sweater and a Seahawks jacket. The women's section was a bit more picked over, but I still managed to find a cute going-out top and pair of linen white pants. This entire haul was $20! Such a steal. Their pricing is a bit confusing unless you speak the language. Each tag color is associated with a different price, but you can find a clear breakdown above the cash register. I personally love this type of pricing at thrift stores. Goodwill/Salvation Army assign pricing per item and gauge you for any brand name. read more

I love Laura's House and everything they stand for. They're a non-profit that help men, women and children get free from domestic violence. They have shelters and lots of help for those who have sadly experienced DV. Their resale store sells all donated items, which provides extra financial support for this amazing company. Walked in here with my daughter and 2 boys to look for some DIY stuff for cheap and to my surprise I found a rude elderly employee(Gray hair and glasses ). She approached us because my Autistic son was excited to see an elephant book and he yelled "Mommy look an Elephant!" And she asked Me if everything was okay and I told her yes he was just excited. And she just stared at us and kept following me around and she then asked me if there was something she could help me with and I told her no. I proceeded to the cash register and she decides to hop on the register, while I was putting my change away my two boys were looking at themselves in the mirrors and make silly faces this lady decides to tell them "Hey you guys need to be considerate of other people this is not a place for you to be loud. Act Proper!" I responded to her "How are you going to talk to my kids like that there's NO ONE around them!?? If kids bother you so much maybe you guys should put a sign that says "NO KIDS ALLOWED"" I then walked out. And now that I'm reading other reviews seems to me that it's the same employee. This place is pretty organized, with friendly staff and clean dressing rooms. They have clothing separated by type, gender, and age. Although the price is a bit on the higher end, quality of clothing is fairly well. (Price similar to Ross) In addition to clothing, they have books, CD, and room decor. They also have kids clothing as well. I found a cute denim pull over for ($9). Love how this place is a bit more fashion oriented than your typical goodwill. You can use credit card if your purchase is over $10~ Will highly recommend for any thrifters who are looking for trendy clothing. read more

Got kicked out for having my dog with me who is an emotional support animal, whom I've brought with me to this store a number of times without incident, so I didn't notice that they put up a "service animal only sign" for no apparent reason. The sign was not there only a few days before when I had gone. I won't be going back because there is no reason for them not to allow well behaved and healthy dogs. read more

Located in the Marshall's shopping strip mall on Del Obispo is this cute thrift shop that has super friendly staff. There is an eclectic mix of merchandise, including clothing, furniture, accessories and even an entire used book area. Their prices are reasonable and they are creative with their displays, making the most of the items they have. The shop is fairly large and they have a lot of stock but it's not so packed where you feel claustrophobic. read more

We have donated here for years but never again. This was my first time going into this location, I was with my developmentally disabled son, who knelt down on the ground several times but was not being loud or disruptive or destructive in anyway. I was right next to him at all times and was clearly struggling and encouraging him to stand. An elderly female worker with long, gray hair and glasses stood in front of us and blocked us and made a rude comment about my child who is OBVIOUSLY disabled. So I grabbed his hand and left because we were clearly not welcome there. Laura's house is discriminatory against people disabilities, find somewhere else to shop. read more

BEWARE, A RIP OFF! While it is for a good cause, you have to watch the staff, they will over charge you. I've been in there several times and started noticing I was charged more than double on several things and it was becoming a habit with the staff. When I brought it up I got a very nasty response and argued with. I canceled my purchase and left. This is NOT a good image to show the public when it's suppose to represent a charity for battered women. It makes me wonder where the money is going and if the women who need help really get anything! read more

On the high recommendation from a family member who lives in San Juan Capistrano who donates regularly to this location. I called this location to confirm what they do and dont accept, given directions for donations etc. I went Friday morning to donate small tables and cabinets, clothing and tons of patterns. I called upon arrival to get directions to the back of the store. I was also told on the phone they do not accept furniture? I told by an employee that they do not accept furniture? Same employee claimed," she did not approve these small furniture pieces as if she was the manager, which she was not! She appeared from the back door and rudely looked in the back of my SUV and said I did not approve this but we will go ahead and take it. I told her I spoke to someone yesterday, but her rude demineior continued. She grabbed the bags of clothes. Then instructed me to drive back to the front of the store for donating the furniture? Upon arriving in front this same employee carried in all the pieces with the rude attitude and just handed me my receipt. It is sad that such a good cause breeds less than grateful attitude for the pricy donations. She kept says, I do not know if I have room?? I will NEVER donate there again. I also advised my family members of the hateful behavior of this particular employee. read more

I heard about this place from my manager at work who used volunteer with them. I absolutely love the cause and all they're doing so I figured I'd stop in when I was in the area and see what they had! The store was so clean and neat and they were so nice to my pups which is always a brownie point in my book. Marina was super helpful and gave my pups lots of love and even watched them for me so I could go into the fitting room. Definitely a place I'm going to come back to and will even donate my clothes here instead of Goodwill or Salvation Army because of their cause. read more

I had a terrible experience here today. The ladies were grumpy with arrogance to match the sales folks at Louis Vuitton. I picked up a few things for my daughters and, while shopping, overheard how rude a young blond cashier was to a woman who mistakenly tried to buy something from the back of the shop. She was incredibly condescending and patronizing and refused to price the item and sent the shopper away empty handed. A similar tone was relayed to another woman inquiring about drop-off times. Nevertheless, I picked up a small number of baby items as well as a pair of shoes. Less than two minutes after leaving, I noticed the shoes I bought were complete garbage. The soles were worn down with 0% traction left, meaning if my daughter walked in them she would immediately slip and fall. I called the number on the receipt from the parking lot and asked if I could return. The woman snapped at me: "All sales are final! You should have inspected the shoes more carefully before buying." I retorted: "Maybe you shouldn't stock garbage people can't even use!" I did not get a refund. I understand that sales are final but there should be exceptions, especially when my signature on the receipt wasn't even dry and when they sold me a useless product. Even if she were more polite about it and at least offered an exchange, I wouldn't have minded. I just felt like she was talking down to me. The manager, Debbie, is another piece of work. She had to help out with my purchase and was snippy and rude with me two. After seeing the way they treated the other customers, I shouldn't be surprised to have received the same treatment. I visited the SJC location after having the complete opposite experience at the Laura's House at Lake Forest. The ladies there are warm, friendly and helpful and the selection is much better. read more

I was humiliated by the clerk in front of several customers. There was a small box with a ceramic tray inside it on a dressing table by the makeshift dressing room (construction with load workers and chaos going on) anyway, I placed some clothing on the table to free my hands to use the mirror, I did not see the ceramic tray on the table, when I picked up the clothing the tray fell of and broke. I explained to the clerk what happened and apologized. She said nothing at the time, however when I got to the check out counter she demanded that I pay for the item, she said it was my fault, that I must pay for, went on to say these are all donations, this all nonprofit, how the workers put time and energy into making things nice. I totally understand if the store has policy that must be followed, but this was done so unprofessionally. This clerk embarrassed and humiliated me in front of several other customers and volunteers. I of course paid for the tray. This was all so unnecessary and unprofessional! I am thinking about finding another foundation for my future donations. read more

I have nothing but RAVES about Laura's House; Their prices are more than fair and go to a Great Cause, Abused Women; Erin the manager there is not only a Wonderful Person, more so Very Responsive to your needs and Service Oriented; Whatever she can do "to make it work" she will do her Best; We had furniture delivered many times by Kevin and Alex; not only was the Furniture handled well in addition they were courteous and smart in their planning, plus super reasonable in their pricing. I'm giving the extra star ONLY based on the appearance and quality of the content in the store. Unfortunately the people working there are obviously not trained in treating people of diverse backgrounds equally. I went in on a day they closed early and they had the only signs stating so on the outside doors, which were open, so they weren't even visible. As I walked in the women (3 of them) in the very front were busy doing decorations and one turned and snapped in an aggressive tone that they were closed and I couldn't be there. I stammered and said something like "oh sorry I didn't realize." She then in a dry tone, still no smile or anything to make up for the inital freeze blast response to my entering, we are having an event tonight. Period. Okay.....so I walk off to Marshall's to see if they have any chairs or furniture. (Which was what I was shopping for.) As I'm leaving Marshall's and coming back around the corner to walk to my car I hear the same damned woman in the sweetest sing-song tone speaking to a middle aged white woman about how they're " not open so sorry they have an even but please come back tomorrow!" Smiles laughs walks away. ......SERIOUSLY?! STAFF OF LAURA'S HOUSE: I had hundreds to spend and I went to your store because I've always enjoyed shopping there with my mom. You were rude. You got caught not treating everyone with the same respect. Shame on you. I will not shop there EVER AGAIN. I WILL tell my mom as well. I WILL tell my teens who love thrift shopping.
