The thought of having my 4-year-old, 10.6 pound fur-baby undergo surgery to repair a luxating patella was a bit nerve-wracking for me. I did A LOT of research to find a veterinary surgeon who I could feel confident was the right choice. My search focused on credentials, experience, expertise, outcomes, and the entire patient and family experience. My findings kept leading me back to Dr. Farrell and his team at AOSSD/Blue Sky. I read all of the Yelp reviews --approximately 20 at that time and all but one was 5-star -- and I read enough of the 180-plus Google reviews at that time -- all 180-plus were five stars -- that I felt confident in bringing Izzy to Dr. Farrell at least for a consultation. Dr. Farrell and his team are everything I was hoping to find and more. They are genuinely passionate about helping their furry patients live their best lives, strive for great outcomes, communicate clearly and transparently throughout the process, care about creating a positive experience for their patients and patients' families, they are kind and they have heart. I was blown away by how they handled a life-or-death situation that was unfolding with a different patient during our consultation. When it became critical for the other patient to immediately go to a different nearby facility for a specialized service not provided at AOSSD, Dr. Farrell sent two staff members to go with the patient and their family to facilitate the patient's admission. OMG. Who does that??? That was when I knew with 100% certainty that Izzy would be in the right hands. My confidence was well-placed. Izzy's surgery was successful, and he's well on the way to a full recovery. Thank you Dr. Farrell, Tina, Tori, Chris and the rest of the AOSSD team! You are the best!

She (and her staff) are kind, compassionate and have a common-sense, thoughtful approach based upon evidence-based medicine. She is a kind, good person and genuinely cares. When she is examining my dog or delivering info to me, she is 100% present and I feel like I have her complete focus (a rarity these days)! She personally calls with medical updates and test results and goes to great lengths to educate me as a pet parent and often calm my nerves. I literally trust her informed and objective medical opinion for all routine and complex situations. I feel very very lucky to have Dr. Lewis and her team as my sounding board and for all medical needs for the entire life spans of my fur babies.

And so I got care from Dr Lewis for my two dogs since 10/2013. Things went well and my dogs thrived. On Thursday morning, August 6, 2015 my one Lab was noted to have a very soft runny stool that by nightfall had become frequent and liquid- he began to cry in the night and by Friday morning after his breakfast he had started to throw up multiple times. I called Dr Lewis for him to be seen and was told and now I quote directly from his medical record that I have a copy of, "Dr Lewis recommends ER due to scheduling being full, it being Friday, and not being able to by-pass exam because we haven't seen (my dog's name) in 13 months." So, I am not one to post anything on Yelp but the feeling of abandonment in my poor dog's needy moment has me looking for a vet that doesn't turn away a sick dog in their moment of need. I love my dogs and would hope this was an isolated incident but regardless, have moved on. Oh, my dog is fine- mending well. He was diagnosed at the ER with gastritis and is on antibiotics. Pretty simple exam and remedy. And I sure paid a fortune more than if I had a vet that I could count on. You live, you learn.

Instead, he gives as many discounts as he can. Dr. John is honest and super practical. He is an extremely experienced vet. 2) EDUCATIONAL: During my dog's initial exam, Dr. John took the time to explain everything. I did not feel rushed at all--it was great! He is passionate about what he does. He was very thorough. I've owned dogs for most of my life, but I learned so much about dog healthcare from him. 3) EXCELLENT DENTAL CARE: My dog underwent dental surgery here. My dog's teeth were very stained before her surgery, but Dr. John and his techs cleaned them SO well. My dog's teeth were SUPER white and clean! They looked like puppy teeth! More importantly, Dr. John takes extra steps to ensure your pet's safety during the procedure. (For example, they start a catheter.) He also monitors your pet very closely during and after the procedure. 4) ABOVE AND BEYOND: While she was under anesthesia, they surgically removed her skin tag, clipped her nails, gave her saline bolus, and gave her 24-hour antibiotics--ALL FREE OF CHARGE!!! 5) CLEAN: They have a brand-new facility that is well maintained and ultra clean, which I appreciate. 6) STAFF: Yvonne, the tech, is so sweet! When I got there, she was cuddling my dog and telling me all of the funny things that my dog was doing while I was gone. After the procedure, they noticed that my dog did not like being in the crate, so they let her run around inside, since there weren't any other dogs there. His receptionists are very friendly, helpful, and informative, as well! 7) AVAILABILITY: It is so easy to book appointments, and they have a lot of availability. Also, when I call the office with question, Dr. John himself will get on the phone to answer it. He is very hands-on. 110% recommended!!!!!

But he always seemed fairly condescending and full of himself to me. We were watching my sister's dog and she suddenly had a squinting eye and I was concerned so I brought her in. He was dismissive of my suggestions, cut me off while I was trying to answer one of his questions and was rude in his response in doing so. I said we weren't aware of any injury that had taken place to cause the squinting. I wondered if she was also experiencing allergies because her other eye, while not squinting and or with swollen lids, was pretty red. He dismissed that, said if allergies were part of the issue, both eyes would be squinting. Fine. Then he asked me "is the discharge watery or is it mucus-y?" I was replying, I was going to say "Yeah, it's more mucus-y" but as soon as I said "yeah, it's" he rudely cut me off and said "I just asked you if it was watery or mucusy and you said 'yeah' so which is it?" I'm like, well, if you hadn't cut me off after two words in my sentence, if you had let me say the other two words in my sentence, it would've been faster and you wouldn't look like an asshole right now. My sister came to get her dog and took her to her vet and that vet said that she believed the dog was experiencing itchy eyes from allergies and had been scratching at the one eye with her paw and damaged her cornea. She said the insides of her ears were irritated and red, too, further pointing toward allergies. She agreed with the medicated eye drops our dismissive vet prescribed but said that the dog would also need allergy medicine, it wasn't enough to treat just the eye injury, the allergic reaction in the eyes need to be treated too, to remove the source of discomfort that had caused her to feel compelled to do the behavior that ended up hurting her in the first place. Just because you're the "expert" in the room doesn't mean you're necessarily smarter or more observant than than your clients, generally speaking. You should converse with humans paying your bills and trusting you to care for their animals with respect. You were right about the injury but I was right about the allergies being involved in this issue. If we had a car, my mom and I would switch vets happily. I don't know why people who have their choice of vets would stick around to have to converse with that man. He didn't even suggest a cone which my sister's vet said is basic practice a vet should carry out when there's eye damage, to protect the eye from exposure to anything. My mom and I, seeing she was trying to scratch her eye and rub it on the carpet after getting home, decided she needed a cone and luckily had an old one from an incident with her dog a couple of years prior. That's some gross incompetence on his part. Inadequate and rude.

Amongst all of the vet ads, I saw Paws 4 Shots. From the various San Diego sites, noticed one clinic in Bonita-Chula Vista, California There was probably 25 pets in line ahead of us, and the line wasn't moving very quickly, because some people had two or three pets for shoes, etc. (one man was waiting with a group of six or seven from a single litter.) We took turns- one of us sitting with our Beau in the car, while the other was with him as he slept-- mostly! Finally about an hour and a half an hour and 40 minutes after we were at the front of the line. We brought Beau out and spoke with the Vet and the techs. The vet was very kind, reassuring, and very professional. Her Team complimented of our baby and were gentle/ professional in handling him. All showed competence working with our boy, were patient, and immediately met his needs.He got a shot and was administered an oral which turned out to be a dewormer. The total cost for everything was very reasonable-- between $45/ $50; tried to sell us flea devices though we said, "No," cause at our house we have no other pets (besides a neighbor's cat who passes along the edges of the yard; so at this point we aren't seriously worried. Guess we'll be heading back to and we'll get to PAWS for Shots, though show up earlier. Overall we experienced a positive visit and felt like Beau was in good hands. Dr. Strubbe fixed his eye so we knew where to take our new little boy Cashew. He had his cataract surgery last week and was seeing instantly! The staff is caring and you can tell they love animals. Dr. Strubbe is professional, very caring and is an expert at what he does. We're so grateful there is place like this close to us, that has now helped 2 of our dogs see!

My 10 year old cat was diagnosed with hyperthyroidism in JAN 2026 By my regular vet. He had a…read moresevere reaction to the medicine. I found Veterinary Imaging on Google. They perform the I-131 iodine radiation therapy which is the gold standard and a cure for over 95% of cats suffering from hyperthyroidism From the first phone call they were sympathetic and helpful. I met with Dr Hewes and she spent a lot of time discussing the process the pros and cons (since we didn't have T-4 number showing as medicated ) Kidney disease could be unmasked. The trial medication period gives true kidney values under normal T-4 . Unlike other clinics that I researched Dr Hewes scans the thyroid She identified the diseased tissue and location , this to tailor the dose. We opted for the more comprehensive heart scan / cardiology work up and discovered heart disease which made the I-131 the best choice for Charlie He spent 4 nights in the hospital due to radiation levels and currently post 30 days his numbers are within normal. The clinic has a cat cam operating between 9am -4pm. The only feedback I could give is providing larger cat cages/. Maybe duel level condos so the litter pan is separate from the food and water. Charlie is a large cat and I know he would have appreciated more space. Overall though I can't recommend Dr Hewes enough. She truly cares about her patients and was so good about calling us and updating while Charlie was in isolation.

She understood and respected our objective in taking the most ethical and educated decision for our girl guided by science. She took the time and effort to help us understand the CT scan preliminary findings in great depth, we were full of questions and she patiently answered all of them without dismissing perhaps even the most ignorant of our questions. They went out of the way in expediting our full & final interpreted CT report (Thank you Dr.Wallack) since we needed the report before an oncologist consult the next day, to be able to have a meaningful data-driven discussion on her disease (cancer) extent. Dr.Hewes followed up proactively with us over phone promptly the next day to double check if we had any lingering or newer questions after having received the final detailed CT report. We were greatly touched by the compassion she showed by treating our dog as an individual to be given a fair chance through in-depth diagnostics, without prejudice about her seniority or age.

Im a disabled Veteran and Vida is my PTSD Dog... We've also been doing Pet Therapy with Love on a Leash for 7+ years, visiting hospitals, nursing homes, colleges and we even visit the jails here in San Diego.. 2 months ago Vida started to really slow down...I could tell she was in pain. She was walking slower,laying down alot, struggling to get up and showing little interest in leaving the house... Now after 5 treatments (Laser and Activator) from Ann, her mobility has improved some much that she's taking me on much longer walks, getting herself up on my bed, using the stairs with little effort and even going to the door to greet guest...Before she would just lay on her bed and watch... I'm ecstatic to see my loyal companion feeling well enough to keep going!!! She's such a love and her quality of life is now keeping up with her longevity... So grateful and can't thank Ann enough

In addition to the treatments, she gave us exercises and stretches which are helping with our dog's mobility. She pointed out some potential issues that we had our vet investigate. They don't appear to be problems at this time but now we have a good baseline. We are also grateful that she comes to our home where our dog is most comfortable.
