I usually bathe my own dog however being pregnant I just don't have the energy. Plus it's been a while since she had a professional grooming. I used to take her every now and again to another groomer but they closed. My parents take their dog Ellie to Joe! She always comes back happy, looking and smelling amazing. I called Joe and set up an appointment. So glad I did, Kona smells delicious! She is a nervous Nelly but he comforted her and gave her time to get adjusted. You can tell he loves dogs. I just moved to Suffolk County and being new to the area I had to find a groomer for my pup, so of course, I turned to Yelp to find someone who was going to do a great job and I found Doggie Dooz! I made an appointment and showed up for my appointment a day early opps my bad!! But they (so sorry I forgot the names of 2 guys) but they were very, very nice about it and fit me in. My King was allowed to roam around and get to know his surroundings to be more comfortable. They were very sweet, very easy to talk to, and just super nice! I left there knowing my boy was in good hands. I got a call 15 min before he was finished, I arrived just as he was done, and once again it was just such a pleasant experience, you can tell they love what they do. I love what a great job the groomer did, he followed my directions on what I was looking for to the last letter. My boy was soft and silky, he smelled so good and was happy, which tells me a lot about his experience. I am sold on this place, I will be back, again and again, every 6 weeks!! I cannot believe all the high reviews that this place got! I have an Mini American Eskimo who I have groomed for 11years since I adopted her from a shelter at 2yrs old. I am an X-professional groomer and cannot groom her anymore due to my age. Having said that I am fully aware of how groomers like to do their own thing and not listen to a customers instructions about how they want their dog groomed. So not only did I explain that to Michele, but I also wrote my instructions down so there wouldn't be any confusion. I inexplicably stated I did not want her butt shaved, or the the fur on her skirt to be blade trimmed into layers. My dog was de-shedded the night before so she didn't need to be pre-brushed and de-shedded before the bath. So what does Joe do? He shaved her butt and blade trimmed her all over, especially her skirt and mane. Who in their right mind trims a American Eskimo's mane, or their skirt into layers? The only trim a AE may need is if the length of the fur is too long on the belly and skirt, even then it should be a scissor cut straight across the skirt, and straight across the tummy, and the legs can be scissor trimmed to the ankle. I called and asked Michele if she read my instructions and she said she told her husband and gave him the paper.....So much for him listening, or reading! Not only that but then they had the nerve to want $15.00 more then I was quoted! With that I told Michele she just lost a new customer and she couldn't have cared less! Mind you, I was very polite and kept my cool when I spoke with her and was not nasty, but really wanted to blast off at them! Nothing worse then a groomer who does not want to fore-fill a customers wishes.They deserve to loose customers! So beware if you have special instructions because obviously Joe can't hear or read and thinks he knows better then his customers! GRRR!! PS: my dog has done nothing but rub her butt on the floor for two days which is why I never cut the fur on it for years, and no she never gets it messed up when she poops because she is a very clean dog. read more

Highly DO NOT recommend this place to no one that loves their dog!!! I will never take my dog here again as long as I live!!!! First off I had a 2:30 appt I did not receive a call around 5:45pm so I decided to stop in on my way home from work. And my dog is whimpering with a muzzle on he proceeded to tell me he started my dog but he turned around and bit him, mind you my dog do not bite. And stated maybe I can help him groom my dog.... Sorry but I'm not doing your job that is why I'm paying you. I stuck around for 20min than left. Soon as I left I received a call stating my dog Lola is ready for pick up... ummm who tf is Lola that is not my dog. Short story shorter I received a call at 8:30 stating my dog is ready. It takes 10min to get there I walk in and my dog is no where done. And this f**ckn Joe guy is abusing my dog and yelling stay still so Uncle Joe can finish. When he looked at me he knew I was a bout 1 sec from cursing him out he says no I'm not abusing your dog. He's yanking him by the neck got his neck chained to a pole and a muzzle on. The place is dirty asf. Than he's like I'm all done. And my dog looks like a crackhead!!! His fur is uneven, he has several long spots sticking out, he's cut on the top of his head, just horrible and than charge me $85 to groom a 10lb dog and on top of that didn't even bathe my dog. Never again !!!! I would of rated this 0 stars but needed to give him 1 star to write review!!! This place needs to go out of business. Just disgusting not satisfied at all. Not clean! Horrible experience! Both of my dogs ended up with a skin infection from the filthy groomer who obviously did not clean their equipment! Found this out after both of my dogs had huge blood clots on their chest area only 2 days after being groomed. When I took them to the Vet they told me the dogs have a skin infection from their last grooming. $500 later! Never again! read more

I have been having my 2 dogs groomed at Doogie Dooz for the past 5 years. I have a maltese and a husky. My maltese "Cosmo" started to go to Joey to be groomed from a 8 week old puppy who just turned 5 yrs old. All I have to say to Cosmo is "are you ready?" "are you ready to go bye bye and go see Uncle Joey?". My lil guy literally goes into total excitement and begins to wag his tail a mile a minute!. If I am not ready immediately to leave when I tell him that and get in the car he starts panting like crazy and will stay right with me so I don't leave him!. For the past 5 years I have come to know Joe very well and my Cosmo at age 3 1/2 some how got injured and it was at few month of seeing Dr. Wen in Speonk. After seeing many vets and an animal neurologist who wanted to perform a major surgery. Dr.Wen put him on specific herbs and he began to heal. Of course as soon as I told Cosmo we are "going to see uncle Joey" Holy Jesus he practically drove the car himself he was so excited! Joey and I had kept contact during Cosmo injury/healing time a good 3 months which is a very long time for a maltese but, with a neck injury there was really nothing either of us could do because he could not be moved around a lot. When he was able to be groomed Joey took and continues to take care of him as if he was a human! Joey knows how much he had went through and sincerely loves and cares for him and Sonja my Husky. Today Cosmo is a healthy handsome boy! Every single grooming from Joey is perfect and Cozzy looks handsome, smells delicious as does Sonja! My dogs truly enjoy going to Doggie Dooz and I find it amazing that both dogs tails go crazy and they look as if they are smiling as soon as I say " are you ready?" I love it!. First off, Joey and Michelle are the greatest!! I would like to say that this is the ONLY groomer I will EVER bring my furry family members to!! They groom to perfection. I have 3 Lhasa Apsos, who need groomings regularly. We've been patrons of Joe and Michelle for about 3 years. They feel like family, and our dogs know who "uncle joey" is when we're on our way to their grooming appointment. Michelle is always lovely and very sweet on the phone. I have never seen the place of business dirty, or messy, ever. Joey and Michelle are always very accommodating to us, and I appreciate that. This is my second review 1st was deleted. I took my two dogs to this horrible place since they opened. With my two smaller dogs he never listen to my instructions, it was something I could accept, it just took longer for the hair to grow back. I took my present dog for a grooming and a simple instruction not to trim her tail or her back was not followed. Here 8 months later and her hair has not grown back. I certainly would never recommend Doogie Dooz to anyone who loves their pet. Please heed the warnings of all those people that give only one star, if they could they would give no stars. read more

I recently just had the WORST experience here at Doggie Dooz. i needed to get my dog a haircut before she was going in for surgery and Michelle had told me to come in on Saturday that her and Joey were going to be there till 8:00 and they did not mind staying to give her what she needed. I appreciated both of them very much for that. However, i was going through her fur and went to pick her up and she had razor blade cuts underneath her armpits and her back legs & whole body were COMPLETELY uneven. I had then called Michelle letting her know the situation and she was very understanding at first and i had said i felt like it was a waste of $60.00 because she looked horrible. Michelle had then told me that Joey had a stressful day and that is why that happened to my dog , THAT IS NO EXCUSE TO DO THAT TO MY DOG! She then called me back yelling and saying that they weren't giving me back my money. my mom then called and they both were cursing out my mom on the phone saying they were going to call the cops for no reason!!! So after a hard day with my dog in surgery i had this problem on top of it. so with that being said i highly DO NOT recommend this grooming salon. read more

We've been searching for a home to groom our Wheaten Terrier for a couple of years and Joey and Michelle were able to provide a comfortable and safe place for Sammy. I'm embarrassed to admit I had let my dog's hair grow for far too long. He no longer would walk, but roll like tumbleweed from a Clint Eastwood Spaghetti western. Trying to attach his leash to his collar was like playing a game of Pin the Tail on the Donkey, it would take several attempts until I could locate the latch. I needed help fast! To my joy, while I was taking my dog for his daily roll, I ran across Doggie Dooz. The lady who worked there was very friendly and it seemed like Barclay took a liking to her. I say "seemed" because by this point he looked like a giant hair ball, and deciphering any dog emotion had become impossible. The nice lady told me to come back in 4 hours. I went home to find a picture of Barclay, because by this point I had forgotten what he looked like. I wanted to make sure I went home with the correct dog. When I got back to the store; with picture in hand, I saw my Barclay boy. He was trimmed, clean and smelled fantastic! The price was fair and I was very happy with the service. We've gone to Doggie Dooz twice, hoping for a better experience the second time. The first time I came in to find my elderly dog being balance on his bad leg and being yelled at by one of the owners. My other elderly dog was tied to a door. It was a very busy and we decided everyone can have a bad day. The second time we came in to find both of them trying to get out of the back of the store with the same owner holding both of them back. After 5,5 hours only one dog was groomed. They were completely stressed and needed to go home. When I stated we were taking them both home the owner flew into a rage shouting at me and calling me names. He then demanded more money than quoted and told me I was never to come back (which was the best part of the entire experience). Let's put aside his unrational, unprofessional and disgusting behavior as a business owner; what about the treatment of the animals he is entrusted with? I would tell anyone who loves their dog, never to trust this place with your pet, yourself or your money. read more

I own a goofball of a dog - with a beautiful coat. He is only 2 years old, but it became evident early on that this one needed intense grooming. I hated the first two groomers we tried - it seemed they did not listen and I brought home a shaved dog both times. I brush my dog so he isn't matted so that wasn't an excuse - if I am willing to bring him in more often so I have a fluffy puppy instead of a shaved dog, that should be my decision and my right as a paying customer. I can shave him myself. I found Doggie Dooz after my daughter bought a home in Lindenhurst, and we were walking along the main street admiring the lovely shops, one of which was Doggie Dooz. It was very pretty, very clean, it had a gate at the front door for the safety of the dogs, the grooming stations were in full view of the patrons (something the last groomer did NOT have - my dog disappeared into the back and I had no way of seeing or knowing what was being done to him back there! It could have been filthy in there and I had no way of knowing. YIKES!) and the lady there was super nice. Turns out it was Michelle the owner. She listened to me, and after only two sessions I had exactly the dog I wanted back when picking him up. They even make his face smell like Blueberries!! (ask about the facial mask - my dog is a shihtzu/maltese and he NEVER has tear stains. And he smells like a blueberry. How awesome is that!) Joe is his groomer and Michelle is a lovely person and I would recommend them to anyone, especially small dogs with long coats that need special attention. Let me start by saying that my Silky Terrier Bella Rose is a nervous wreck! She pees when people pet her...her experience with groomers has not been good. Bella has been banned from at least 4 groomers until I found Doggie Dooz and Michelle and Joey. At one appointment with a well known Babylon Village groomer, I dropped her off to do some shopping. Within 15 minutes my cell phone rang with a pleading voice "get back here quickly". She is impossible and her heart is beating so fast I think she is going to have a heart attack. Really? Really? Another groomer cut her so badly, she was bleeding profusely when I picked her up. Nightmare over when I found Joey and Doggie Dooz. He is kind, patient and, most importantly, a very talented groomer. He truly has the patience of a saint, as my Bella can be quite the challenging 14 lb. terrier!!! He knows her issues and always tries different techniques. He speaks to her as if she is a misbehaving child and she will usually cooperate. The store is immaculate and nicely furnished. One time a number of years ago Bella had several ticks on her and she would not let me pick them off. Joey and Michelle said to bring her right in and Joey and Michelle both worked with me to take the ticks off. I cannot say enough about this business. They both truly care about the animals they groom and I am so glad that they are located in my home town! I have been with them as long as they have been opened. Love them to pieces! I have recommended several people and all have been pleased. A wonderful experience - both for you and your pet! read more

Can't believe all the 5 stars on this groomer. They are really nice people but they did not listen to my instructions, gave me a Saturday appointment when I told them I could come any day of the week and then used the excuse that Saturday is soo busy, when I complained about the way my dog was groomed. I showed them a photo prior to the appointment of how I wanted our cockapoo to look. They did not tell me that they could not do it. They said nothing about her curly coat needing to be brushed when we arrived. When I picked her up, her entire body except for face and ears, was shaved down to one very short length even though I explicitly asked for the legs to be shaped per the photo. I was told that she was matted and not brushed out. I would have gladly paid more for the brushing out if they had requested it. It was just an excuse. Her last groomer had no issue with her coat or how to style her properly. They apparently do not know how to scissor cut or brush out a curly coated dog. I was very disappointed in the end result and will not return there. They should have called me to discuss her coat rather than going ahead and doing what they wanted. If you don't care about the cut and style and just want a shampoo and nail trim, I am sure they are fine. read more
