Every time we bring our dogs in to be groomed we are met by Ann a wonderful woman who is very knowledgeable and is always ready to help, with anything. The shop is always clean and everyone is always so friendly. You can actually see the love that everyone has for all the animals that come in to be groomed and that is so important, especially when you hear horror stories about other grooming businesses. We have been going there for years, I wouldn't trust anyone else with our dogs. I have a Maltese and a yorkie. My Maltese hates being groomed. My last groomer hurt her leg that she couldn't use it for a while. I informed anne and they are so gentle with her. My yorkie has some health issues that Anne and Sara are aware of and they take such good care of him to make sure he's fine during grooming. Anne is more than just a business owner she absolutely loves the fur babies and is there for you whenever you need her. The grooming salon is immaculate no matter what time you go in. It's amazing how clean they keep it my last one was a disaster they didn't sweep up the hair all day. It was gross I have been going for years to Anne and I would not ever leave her. I know when my babies are there they are well taken care of. They don't just groom they also check the pups over to make sure no hot spots, rashes or ear infections. My 80 year old mother has brought her dogs to this salon for years, and she has mulitples who live long lives. They treat her and her dogs very well and always show such expertise in handling of all animals. Ann who owns the salon is just lovely and I witnessed a very scared small breed dog with a owner who had not a clue. Ann handled it so calmly and beautifully the dog was taken to the back for its groom and seemed calmer with Ann then the owner. I cannot say enough about this salon. I run a medium sized animal rescue for the last fifteen years in Colorado and I have dealt with over 12,000 rescued and adopted dogs and over 12 years of spay neuter clinics. I love seeing a professional handling animals that also has a cool and calm demeanor. I was in desperate need to have my fur baby groomed today so I was forced to call around to see if anyone was available. Bailey had hardened poop on his fanny. I explained to the lady on the phone and asked if that's something they can clean off. The lady said as long as I can have my dog there before noon, it wouldn't be a problem. I called Bailey's dad who then brought him there. I get a text from my ex telling me that they called to let him know that Bailey's fur was too matted and they had to shave him. I was in jury duty so I couldn't take any calls, not that they bothered to call me anyway. I came home minutes ago to chaos. Everyone was so upset with how our beloved puppy turned out. He looked so sad and skinny. They did such a poor job with his grooming and cut! Matted?!?! I brush my puppy every day ever since Petco told me that it is better to spend at least 5 minutes a day doing that to save Bailey the stressful experience of taking the knots out. What Dog Grooming by Rachel did was PURE LAZINESS. They did not want to brush him out so they chose to shave him completely. That is not grooming! Why would you make a cockapoo look like a hairless dog?!?! He's supposed to have the beautiful curls. They shaved him so much that his collar was too big for him and my ex mother in law almost lost him when he slipped out of his collar. What they did to our puppy is unforgivable. They should not call themselves professional groomers because they are far from it. LISTEN TO ME PEOPLE! DO NOT GO TO DOG GROOMING BY RACHEL. They are lazy, unknowledgeable unprofessionals. My kids are crying. My ex MIL is upset and I am fit to be tied! This was their chance to show that they truly are professionals who take pride in their work. Clearly they don't want my business to treat my dog so badly. His cut is uneven. He has a different length near his eyes, his scrotum is completely shaven and so are his ears. They could have nicked him! They may have. I haven't had a chance to scrutinize every inch as Bailey is too traumatizes by this whole experience and won't allow me to look closer. If you need a recommendation for a good groomer, ask for Julie at the Petco in Wantagh. She listens and follows through with what we ask. Bailey likes her. Definitely ask for her. He will be 13 on November 4th. i have watched how the staff kiss the dogs while grooming, speak in a kind voice when they see a dog is scared and give advise when they notice an issue with behavior, food allergies etc... in all the years, one time they cut a little close and nicked his skin, Ann immediately told me and insisted I take him to the vet and that she would pay! honestly it was small and I knew in my heart she felt terrible! not bad for 13 years! Any positive review must be from close friends who they asked to support their business Asked for a wash and trim and then they charged the same price as a full haircut and wash. We asked why and they said they had decided to give a full haircut (which doesn't make sense because our dog looks like nothing was done to her besides a wash and a full shave on her ass cheeks). Do dogs have cheeks? Whatever her ass area. They then told us our dog was attacking other dogs. Our dog has never attacked anyone or any dog unless it was with licks. Wrote a review for this place two and a half years ago, long overdue for another, especially after what happened the day of my wedding. But before I get to my review, if all except for one of their reviews is 5 stars (not 3 or 4, but 5 stars) - does it even make sense to read the 1 star review? I've continued to take Mr. Smuckers (formerly Smuckers, the wedding thing completely got to his head) here since he was a pup, he always comes out spectacular. And just as important, he's happy to come here. I made an appointment for the Friday before my wedding, but my Dad could not find the place. Not because it's difficult to find, but he's not the best with directions. So I give them a call 7AM Saturday morning, I explain that I was getting married later in the day and Mr. Smuckers was the Dog-of-Honor. They took him in immediately, and he was ready well within the hour. As I walked in, there was a woman outside who gave me all this wedding advice for the day and explained that they tried to find the most appropriate bandana for the event. When I go to pay, I was told it was a wedding gift. This is the kind of business you want to support, and the kind you want to write a review for. They are still a 5 star place without this kind gesture. And remember folks, this isn't the coffee place giving me a free breakfast as a wedding gift, that's donating one day of business when I'm there 250 times a year. I like Mr. Smuckers on the shaggy side, so I'm only here about 4-5 times a year - they still did it as a gift. So again, I'm lucky enough to have this place within walking distance, if you're not as lucky, I recommend taking the drive and bringing your pup here. For most of us that have dogs, we know they become a member of the family. This place will treat them the way you would want them to be treated. read more

I brought my dog to get a flea bath. Shortly after dropping him off, I received a call from the shop telling me that my dog was "freaking out" and needed to be picked up. Upon arrival, the OWNER of the shop tells me that my dog isn't properly socialized and she asked me if I bring him around people. My dog is extremely friendly and my family has NEVER had a problem with him being aggressive, which makes me concerned as to how this woman was treating my dog. What made him "freak out"? Then to basically tell me that he is a bad dog makes me question whether she should be operating a business which entirely rides on her being able to properly interact with animals AND their owners! It's scary to think that within 10 minutes of dropping my dog off that he went from a happy goofball to an aggressive and scared animal. I think it's also important to add that the woman who was before me in line to drop her dog off told me that hshe had been waiting for her dog for 5 whole hours! What are they doing with the dogs back there? I was told by the owner that it would cost a total of $35 for a bath, drying and a nail trimming. She charged me $30 without drying my pup or cutting his nails. I'm writing this review to brace anyone that considers taking their dogs to this shop: please be weary. read more

Stopped by on Tuesday to see if they had any time to bathe my sons dog. Ann asked if I could bring the dog back the next day after 8:00 am. I went back today and they were wonderful! The bath was reasonable and when they called to say he could be picked up they assured me there was no rush everyone loved my Dutchie! I made an appointment for next month because I do love when there is no dog smell at all in my home.... I highly recommend their service! read more

I gave Dog Grooming by Rachel two chances solely because of their stellar yelp rating. It was a mistake. The first time I brought my morkie puppy in, I asked for a simple short puppy cut. When I got him back (5 hours later) he had this really strange haircut, with tapered cuts on his back and sides and really long facial hair/leg hair. All I asked for was a really basic cut, but whatever, not a huge deal. What really upset me was the fact that they cut his stomach! I reluctantly brought him back next time he was due, making sure to explain I wanted a very simple cut, and they delivered on that end. However, they cut him AGAIN, this time on his genitals. I didn't notice these cuts either time until I was home, but needless to say, this is inexcusable, especially because of the second chance I gave them. I will find another groomer who isn't looking to make minced pup. read more

I was very disappointed with this groomer. I love that they work with rescues, as our dog is a senior dog we adopted about 2 years ago. We explained his anxiety with being groomed, specifically being placed in a crate. The receptionist was very understanding and told us that if I dropped him off right when they opened, or even a few minutes before, they could try to have him seen right away and avoid this fear of his. After picking him up we were told he was jumpy but overall did well. This was a little shocking because he usually sits well while being groomed as long as he isn't restrained in a cage of sorts but overall we were pleased. On our second visit here we had the same arrangement to bring him in early. I arrived to pick him up early and saw that he was still being groomed, this time by a different person. He had a harness around his mouth and looked very irritated. When they brought him out his cut was inconsistent, but more importantly he was very distressed. The woman who groomed him told me to play with his paws more because he was upset when she touched them. We play with him all the time and make sure to touch him every where and worked with him to make sure he would be good around little kids. He had never, in all the time we had him, seemed so unhappy after being groomed. I will never take him back here again. We have since found a groomer that he enjoys going to, and we can see that he is much happier. It could have just been the one person who groomed him did not handle him with care but it was enough to not bring him back here again. read more

Loved this place till I took my 2 year old golden retriever here for her first haircut. I told the lady helping me I just wanted my dog trimmed and hair blown out and combed through with instructions not to shave her legs or butt...she had curls all over her butt which do get knotty and i comb through them when i can, she told me she was able to do what i asked. when I received my dog back she was completely shaved down legs butt and all. I did not ask for a puppy cut or for my dog to be shaved. I was told she was not dealing with the grooming well which doesn't make sense because she is a sweet girl who doesn't act up she's a golden retriever...so what we're you doing to make her feel uncomfortable???? I should have been called to pick my dog up if they were not able to correctly do what I asked instead I showed up to my dogs body SHAVED down horribly patchy and her tail half cut and her butt down to the skin all her curls gone...? it's very simple to wash a dog and comb through WET soft fur. this is pure !!!!LAZINESS!!!! my golden retriever now looks like a lab. my anxiety ridden sweet dog came back looking petrified like she was tortured by the ladies who work there. I am confused on why you run a grooming business but seem to hate dogs. it makes me so upset to see my dog like this and ever since her anxiety is even worse. My father went in with my dog for an appointment and mentioned he would get a cup of coffee and just wait so my dog didn't have to get put into a crate after being groomed (which is what they do). The owner told him it would take hours and not to do that and when she thought he was gone began to talk about him to another employee saying she was going to make him wait now, meaning my dog would have to wait as well. They were forcing my dog who is over 60 pounds into a crate that is meant for small dogs and intended to keep him in there because my dad offered to wait around? Needless to say my dad took our dog and left. This place is trash, don't trust your pet with them. It's abuse. read more
