As a large pit mix I'd rescued, these issues were super demoralizing and we were scared Bo would someday hurt someone, despite our constant vigilance. Plus his world had gotten super small because I couldn't trust taking him to the places we used to hang in public. Anyway, after the meet and greet we went with a moderate board and train program. And then it didn't start as smoothly as we all hoped. Not because of their team, Bo was just more aggressive and reactive than he'd displayed during the meet and greet. Was it disappointing - absolutely, but most important was Stand Proud were having the difficult conversation with us about what Bo needed. We all came up with a plan that set Bo up for success, and they made sure it was something we were comfortable with. Since then, it's been a journey, but the results are remarkable and they've been so invested in his success. He's got a strong grasp on place and sit until released, and even off-leash skills and recall. He's also much more comfortable regulating himself and waiting for guidance when he's unsure. Taking him for a walk was a struggle as no amount of coaxing would keep him from pulling. The biggest problem was that his fear of other dogs would have him acting defensively. This often led him to him pulling us to the ground. Taking him for a walk was an ongoing challenge to which we adapted and accepted. After 4 years of living amicably with our other older bulldog, Vinnie began to be aggressive towards him. We were on the verge of turning him over to the Humane Society and then we found Danielle, Brandon and their team. The fee for their services and the length of time Vinnie would be away caused us to be reluctant to book their services. A few phone conversations and emails led us to an evaluation appointment at their home and facility in Fernly. Brandon and Danielle spent more than hour explaining everything to us. They both exhibited the qualities we look for in any professional. They presented their background explained their program clearly and simply, and answered all our questions. We had conserns about their training tools but were reassured with Brandon's detailed explanation. They have a large air conditioned kennel with spacious cages, large fenced in yard bordering a large open space. The staff we met were friendly. They were absolutely clear that their residential training is all about building a foundation and that success is dependent on how well we do our job as dog owners. We then observed one of local classes they provide all around Reno/Sparks. The trainer at the class exhibited all of the same qualities we saw in the owners. The dogs in the class were incredibly well behaved. We then booked a 4 week board and train program. When we picked up Vinnie, his behavior had improved 1,000%. Abby, his superb trainer spent 3 hours with us explaining what they did and walking us through what we needed to be doing moving forward. Brandon came by our house about a week later and spent over an hour with us answering our questions and reinforcing the guidance from Abby. Upon taking him home, he has not exhibited any aggression towards our other dog and our walks are more controlled and pleasant. With board and train you are able to attend classes for up to a year. We are excited to attend our first class with Vinnie soon. While we do not expect everything to be perfect, everyone's life has improved, We are grateful to the Stand Proud team and highly recommend them.

I support the fact that they want to pay their staff fairly and make upgrades to the facility - not very many businesses value and make that priority. Unfortunately the price increases are currently out of our price range. But I appreciate the owner always explaining a price increase or a change to the services. They are always transparent and responsive to costumer feedback. I still highly recommend them and hope to go back again here and there if we can make it work in our budget.

4/16/2024- I can't…read morebelieve it's been three years since our last visit.. Initially, I was looking to have a back up boarding.. for the furry ones.. I made reservations to have them re-evaluated.. a few weeks back.. Dropped them off this morning and they stayed until 3:30.. Staff was friendly and Cece was also there to greet them.. Received a call mid -morning and they passed with flying colors.. There are many advantages of bringing the dogs here and will fit our needs more.. Thank yo so much for remembering us and look forward to going on a longer vacation- with piece of mind..

My dogs ( a shitzu and a bichon Frise) are small enough to share one kennel. The staff is friendly and good about following instructions for feeding and medications. I even request for my dogs to walk on leads with harnesses and they oblige, otherwise they use a choke collar which I don't care for. They don't mingle with other dogs and get walked every couple hours for exercise and to relieve themselves. This facility also offers daycare and grooming.

When we adopted our dog, Harper, she was reactive and fearful in public, barking to keep things…read morethat scared her away. At home, she was loving, joyful, and goofy, but also scared of things like the TV and pretty much anything new. We immediately started training her at reputable places for behavioral training and enrolled in a couple classes (and some private sessions) for reactiveness, obedience, and even tricks to help her build confidence and to give her some structure. While they helped, she was still easily triggered and couldn't calm down quickly. Dealing with this over the months has been at times frustrating, tiring, and even embarrassing. Then we found Sarah and Dogz Training. She was offering training that wouldn't last just for a few classes and then you're on your own. She'll be working with us for six months, so she can really help us learn (because we're getting trained too) how to help Harper not become overwhelmed in real-life situations. We started in our house, our back and front yards, and have progressed to our neighborhood. And we can already see Harper's progress in all of those places. We've had a lot of conflicting advice before, but what Sarah has brought is actual knowledge of dog behavior, both academic (she has a masters in Education and is a CPDT-KA) and practical (many years of actual hands-on experience working with dogs of all kinds). Her advice really works, and we've found it easy to follow, achievable, and at all times humane (unlike some places that insist positive reinforcement doesn't work). She's also patient, and a decent and caring human being who always returns our texts (even the misclicks!). There's still plenty of training to go, but we're so grateful (and relieved) to have found such knowledgeable and effective training with Sarah. Don't hesitate to try Dogz Training....you'll wish you'd started sooner!

RATTLESNAKE PROOF YOUR DOG! As we hike a lot in the…read moremountains, and our dog "Maggie" is off leash all the time, we were concerned about rattlesnakes. The vet "vaccine" only buys you some time to get to the emergency room; it doesn't prevent the effects of venom. So we wanted Maggie to STAY AWAY from snakes! All snakes! Our experience at Dogz was fabulous! Their "snake proofing" is a progressive class that starts with getting your dog's attention in no uncertain terms, teaching the LEAVE IT! command (which you can use on ANYTHING) and progresses to snake SOUNDS, and then to LIVE SNAKES. By the end of the training, your dog will want NOTHING to do with snakes! It's a great investment in your dog's safety. Maggie went back after one year for a "tune-up" and she IMMEDIATELY walked a very wide, wary berth around the live snakes. So she RECALLED all of her training, and we can assume she'll act the same way in the wild. The cost for the "tune up" is miniscule! It's insurance! You should do it. For snake training, yes, you can go to "that other" company that uses a shock collar. But ask yourself this: Do you want your dog to be afraid of SNAKES, or be afraid every time you put a COLLAR on your dog? Self-evident answer, right? Go to Dogz!

first went to PJs 13 years ago with my first goldendoodle. We started in the puppy social classes…read morewhen he was 9 weeks old as he had his first set of shots. We went onto do 3 levels of classes with him. Classes were hands down the best investment we made for him, and he went on to live a wonderful fear-free life. I attribute his high quality of life to his basic training classes and the time we put in when he was a puppy. He learned from a very young age how to settle and be calm in lots of different situations. He learned to trust our directions which kept him safe. Puppy social is in my opinion one of the best classes to put a young puppy in. They get to meet other dogs and people in a safe environment, and the puppies teach each other soft bite and learn how to be social. We recently brought a new puppy into our lives. I love the structure of Pjs classes where your puppy is with the same dogs for the 6-week duration. The happy little puppies can all see each other during the class at Pjs, no barriers (unless required to reduce stress of the pet). I like the scaffolding approach that PJs classes offer. You build the dogs' confidence and skills up in a logical way for them to learn. Plus, the puppies are all watching each other learn the same things. It's adorable. Our new puppy has done several levels of classes at Pjs' beautiful new facility in Sparks and HE LOVES IT. He just completed his AKC Canine Good Citizen, we can now consider therapy work down the road with him. He is so excited to get in the door for any play group I take him to and to his classes. We absolutely loved Rally O with Susie, she is amazing. We have referred Susie to friends with some rescues for consultations and they have been super happy. We will complete all the classes PJ dog training offers, because our dog just loves to learn, he really likes to use his brain. He exudes happiness when we get to class. They also give you time at the beginning of any class for a quick discussion on any "challenge areas". You learn so much to help you understand your dog's behavior. All classes use positive reinforcement. You learn to build a trusting relationship with your furry family members from a place of respect and love. I couldn't be more pleased! Boris is a backyard bred corso I rescued and he has many of the temperament issues that go along with that such as overstimulation and reactivity. As he's gotten older they have come up and become hard for me to manage. Trevor assessed him and was immediately able to zero in on the behavior! When we went to pick up Boris Trevor spent over an hour working with us to teach us how to better manage the behavior as well as go over what Boris had learned. One of the issues we were having was keeping him focused if an off leash dog was around, using the skills we were taught as well as what Boris had learned, when a dog approached us Boris ignored the dog and we were able to continue peacefully. What a pleasure to be able to enjoy a walk without having to be on alert! Complete game changer to be able to enjoy your dog. Now Boris is ready to go for the advanced CGC and we will surely be involving Trevor in that process.

THE TRAINING STICKS!!…read more One year ago I dropped Vision off for his Board and Train. Today, I took him out on a hike off-leash and he did amazing! By the end, he was WILLINGLY in heel and walking by my side. He continued to listen to commands throughout the hike, and this just goes to show that sticking with Bailey's plan and continuing the training works! Since Vision's Board and Train, I've utilized Bailey's boarding for various trips. Vision is excited every time he's dropped off and I know that I can trust Bailey and her team. I'm even more grateful now than I was a year ago after picking Vision up. He is still the same goofy and happy dog - he's just more fulfilled and I am a more knowledgeable owner.
