Winston has become much more relaxed and confident through obedience classes.
    Kathleen C.

Dog Training by PJ has helped our rescued golden retriever so much. Winston has graduated from 3 obedience classes taught by Susie Jensen, and he has become a much better behaved, calm, and confident dog. As a rescue dog, he is reactive to other dogs, although he loves people. Susie did an in home consultation and gave me guidance about helping him overcome reactivity, then he started obedience classes. He loves the classes and even enjoys practicing his new skills at home. Dog Training by PJ is reward/affirmation based, and they do not use or recommend prong or shock collars. The classes are fun, relaxed, informative, and highly effective. PJs was recommended to us by our vet and I highly recommend them too.

Tumble playing with another dog during puppy playtime

I would recommend PJ's for the puppy playtime, and then again for the classes. The playtime is crucial for puppies, and I am so happy that PJ's offers such an amazing environment. I have brought my Aussie, Tumble, since he turned 8 weeks old and have seen such a massive change in him. When he first came to playtime, he was very shy and hid between my legs, now he happily trots around, greets people, and will play with some of the lower/moderate energy dogs (he isn't much of a high energy player, but loves to run). The trainer in charge of playtime, always Susie in my experience, calmly watched everything and does a great job at explaining behaviors to everyone. I am only in one class right now, the puppy kindergarten with Susie, and am very happy with it. I have learned some alternative ways to train things such as "leave it", and it has given Tumble the chance to learn in a more distracting environment. I think I will look into agility classes when he gets a bit older because he showed some aptitude for it in a workshop also hosted by PJ's.

Absolutely would recommend them for puppy play time and Puppy Kindergarten! My pup has learned so much and loves puppy play time. We just finished up Level 1 and I already signed her up for level 2. Susie makes it easy to understand how to train the right way and is encouraging when things get frustrating. I get compliments already on how smart little Phoebe is! Can't wait for the next level!

We took our puppy(Whiskey) to the 6 week puppy basics class. Was a good value for $120. We learned lots and had fun. Susie was our trainer and she was very knowledgeable and helpful. She took time with each family and puppy throughout the sessions and made sure to answer our questions. It was fun to see all the puppy's learn and grow throughout the sessions. It seemed as though mostly larger breeds dog attend since out of 8 or 9 we had the only small dog but we were glad to have the opportunity to have our little guy be around big dogs in a safe environment. They offer many other classes and playgroups and reasonable prices and we will be sure to go back to learn more.

I rescued a dog from PJ 8 years ago (Chip). He is very special needs. PJ kept in touch with me and helped me through dealing with such a broken spirited dog. I got another dog and was being very possessive and attaching my Chip. So as usual, Pam is always willing to talk to me and give advice on dealing with different behaviors. Well this last one was such a success, I have to share the outcome of her expertise and able to help without me driving 100+ miles. Her knowledge and compassion is the best I have seen. Thank you Pam for being there for me. Patti

They train the owners as well as the dog. We have learned a lot about our boy. We are continuing training into more advanced classes.

I couldn't be more pleased! Boris is a backyard bred corso I rescued and he has many of the temperament issues that go along with that such as overstimulation and reactivity. As he's gotten older they have come up and become hard for me to manage. Trevor assessed him and was immediately able to zero in on the behavior! When we went to pick up Boris Trevor spent over an hour working with us to teach us how to better manage the behavior as well as go over what Boris had learned. One of the issues we were having was keeping him focused if an off leash dog was around, using the skills we were taught as well as what Boris had learned, when a dog approached us Boris ignored the dog and we were able to continue peacefully. What a pleasure to be able to enjoy a walk without having to be on alert! Complete game changer to be able to enjoy your dog. Now Boris is ready to go for the advanced CGC and we will surely be involving Trevor in that process.

He had been acting out of sorts at daycare too. I expressed my worries to Heidi upon check in and she understood he was still going through a tough time without his buddy. She told me she would indicate that he was a special needs dog, who may need some extra care and attention. I really appreciated her going out of the way to put my mind at ease for our trip. I checked in a few days into our vacay and was told he was not eating like normal and asked if they could try some chicken broth and pumpkin to encourage him to eat. I told the staff on the phone that he had been more finicky with eating even with new wet foods. They would keep an eye on him and let me know if anything changed. I got a call from the staff the day before pick up and was told my dog hadn't eaten in two days but energy at daycare was normal. They offered to try and hand-feed him. When I picked him up, they said they were able to get him to eat some so he must've been getting lonely and wanted extra attention. I have really appreciate all of their staff's help in getting our dog adjusted to the loss of our other dog and for their support and understanding during his first solo stay. Thank you!

As a large pit mix I'd rescued, these issues were super demoralizing and we were scared Bo would someday hurt someone, despite our constant vigilance. Plus his world had gotten super small because I couldn't trust taking him to the places we used to hang in public. Anyway, after the meet and greet we went with a moderate board and train program. And then it didn't start as smoothly as we all hoped. Not because of their team, Bo was just more aggressive and reactive than he'd displayed during the meet and greet. Was it disappointing - absolutely, but most important was Stand Proud were having the difficult conversation with us about what Bo needed. We all came up with a plan that set Bo up for success, and they made sure it was something we were comfortable with. Since then, it's been a journey, but the results are remarkable and they've been so invested in his success. He's got a strong grasp on place and sit until released, and even off-leash skills and recall. He's also much more comfortable regulating himself and waiting for guidance when he's unsure. We're so much more confident and proud of the goofball. Thanks Stand proud team!

Taking him for a walk was a struggle as no amount of coaxing would keep him from pulling. The biggest problem was that his fear of other dogs would have him acting defensively. This often led him to him pulling us to the ground. Taking him for a walk was an ongoing challenge to which we adapted and accepted. After 4 years of living amicably with our other older bulldog, Vinnie began to be aggressive towards him. We were on the verge of turning him over to the Humane Society and then we found Danielle, Brandon and their team. The fee for their services and the length of time Vinnie would be away caused us to be reluctant to book their services. A few phone conversations and emails led us to an evaluation appointment at their home and facility in Fernly. Brandon and Danielle spent more than hour explaining everything to us. They both exhibited the qualities we look for in any professional. They presented their background explained their program clearly and simply, and answered all our questions. We had conserns about their training tools but were reassured with Brandon's detailed explanation. They have a large air conditioned kennel with spacious cages, large fenced in yard bordering a large open space. The staff we met were friendly. They were absolutely clear that their residential training is all about building a foundation and that success is dependent on how well we do our job as dog owners. We then observed one of local classes they provide all around Reno/Sparks. The trainer at the class exhibited all of the same qualities we saw in the owners. The dogs in the class were incredibly well behaved. We then booked a 4 week board and train program. When we picked up Vinnie, his behavior had improved 1,000%. Abby, his superb trainer spent 3 hours with us explaining what they did and walking us through what we needed to be doing moving forward. Brandon came by our house about a week later and spent over an hour with us answering our questions and reinforcing the guidance from Abby. Upon taking him home, he has not exhibited any aggression towards our other dog and our walks are more controlled and pleasant. With board and train you are able to attend classes for up to a year. We are excited to attend our first class with Vinnie soon. While we do not expect everything to be perfect, everyone's life has improved, We are grateful to the Stand Proud team and highly recommend them.

I made an appointment for an evaluation had a great conversation and so far I was very much convinced this was the place for my reactive dog and I. Well little to know it was going to be worst decision and place I could have chosen for my dog and I. I came to this facility due to having a reactive dog. I started back in March it is now June and I still sit at home with a reactive dog limiting the places I can take him. It's absurd! I followed all the procedures even after the 2 week training. Which all that was done during training were obedience commands. While I brought my pet for reactivity?? Ok, moving forward group classes were next. There I am as a good dog mom taking him and processing with such. Just to have some people who have not showed up in months get all the attention with their reactive dog. It is unfair and injustice! While I had been patiently waiting for the help. It also doesn't sound right when I had to constantly beg for the help my dog needs. I paid for the service I should get the help without having to beg for it. Not sure why I wasn't treated or got the help like all the other clients? It is confirmed that their specialty are not dogs who are reactive like mine.(Cane Corso) It is just false advertisement when they say they can help you with any kind of dog breed. If the facility Sit Means Sit did not have the capability of helping me with my pet. I should have been told so at the evaluation, or yet I should have been only charged for they advising me to buy a E collar and figure the rest out on my own. To concluded my review I'm highly disappointed, dissatisfied, and now discouraged since I put in lots of time, effort, energy and money. Now losing thousands of dollars and not getting what I paid for is frustrating!
