I love that she plans the timing so well and only works on one dog at a time, because she gets him in and out in only an hour!!! We had a very good experience here. My dog is extremely wiggly during grooming and she was able to groom her. She found a foxtail lodged in my dog which I did not see! Luckily she was able to take my angel in a few days ago. The place is a little hidden but once you receive instructions from the owner it is easy to find. First and foremost I would like to thank Shaneeka and her team, you ladies are awesome! I was in town for the weekend and wanted to give my pup a little sprucing. Communication through yelp was a breeze and I was soon in contact with Shaneeka to schedule our appointment. For your first appt, don't forget your vaccine records like I did, luckily my dog has a profile on petly were vets update vaccination records. Being from out of town, I was a few minutes late but Shaneeka was kind enough to take BuBu for his bath. The facility looks neat and well taken care of. My dog is a bit shy with strangers but they worked with him really well, no blood shot eyes or funny behavior after. BuBu got a bath and brush, nail clipping and grinding. His coat was nice and bright yet super soft. Lite fresh scent, no more doggy smell. His ears were nice and clean. GET THE NAIL GRINDDING. I longer feeel like Freddy Kruger is jumping in and out of bed with me. With past groomers, BuBu's coat would shed more even after the grooming, this time with Shaneeka, NO MORE SHEDDING! It was amazing. I dunno what miracle brush she uses but it works. Too bad I live 500 miles away, otherwise Shaneeka would be our new groomer. We are so happy to have found Shaneeka! We took our pom Suki to see her for the first time this week & are very impressed with her attention to detail & care. We preciously went to a large chain groomer where Suki would have to stay for 4-5 hours (in a kennel I'm assuming for a lot of it) because they had so many dogs in at once. Suki didn't like going and was always very anxious. Shaneeka only takes one dog at a time & I was able to pick up Suki within 2 hours (grooms and full haircut) and she seemed very happy when I picked her up. Plus she had the most adorable haircut and still smells great from the shampoo she used. She also hates to get her nails cut but Shaneeka seemed very patient with her. 100% recommend. read more

Got my little guy groomed here a few days ago. It was easy to make an appointment. The salon is clean and staff friendly. I have a Yorker Terrier mix with a medium/long coat. Brushing him is a full time job in itself. I appreciated the suggestions offered by the groomer along with taking in to account my needs and concerns for my guys grooming experience and behavior. I couldn't believe how great my little one looked after the appointment! I also couldn't believe the insane amount of hair that had been removed. I would give zero stars. Please, take your business elsewhere. This lady is rude and will not work with customers. It's her way or the highway. I've been there only a couple of times. Her customer service skills are terrible to start off. The last time she groomed my dog, she came home with several cuts under her paws. The lady did not make me aware of this, and I'm sure she noticed she had done that. If she didn't notice cutting the dog that much then that just means she is very careless. My dog could not walk for about a week. We took care of it, and I didn't feel the need to call the lady. This time we took the dogs, and she said she would not take one of them if she couldn't completely shave her because she is matted. That is true, and I explained our situation with the dog. She has a very difficult hair to keep up, but she would not work with me to maybe leave some hair. Basically, I didn't want her to just grab a razor and shave it, but she would not accept any ideas. When I told her about the cuts on my dog's paws, she was very defensive and never apologized. She actually reversed the problem so it would seem like it was my fault after all. Looking at other reviews, it seems like she is a DANGER with scissors anyways. I'm glad this happened actually. It may be a blessing as I won't have her hurt my dogs any longer. Very unprofessional and immature lady. The least I expected was that she could work things out with me, but what a disappointment. All in all, less than good haircuts (trust me, my dogs have got much much better cuts for cheaper) and unprofessionalism, carelessness. I do not recommend and will never go back. read more

Wow! Yeah, that's all. A simple: WOW! However, for the sake of helping reviewers make a decision, let me be a little more descriptive. To say I have high standards for how my dog should be groomed is an understatement. My dogs name is Bonita Applebum. She is a 6 yo mini schnauzer. She is about 18 lbs of shear life and love. She is like a daughter to our family and an older sister to our young daughter. We love her and care for her as one should a family-pet. Believe me when I tell you she has a pretty good life! Over the years we have visited a handful of groomers. Some close and some far. Our fall back groomer has always been Top Dog in Hayward- they are awesome! We used to go to TD and it was never convenient even when we lived in Oakland bcz they generally keep her for 3-4 hrs. So I would spend half the day waiting around, but it was worth it bcz the price was right and the cut was on point. Fast forward a few years and we move to El Sobrante. During our time living here I have made the 45 minute drive to Hayward twice and have used another groomer in the area twice as well. I was never really satisfied with either of those options. The cut in a different Richmond location was ok, but Top Dog is better and I just can't justify making that drive anymore and spending all that time to go to Hayward. Just a couple nights ago we were at point Isabel and saw these two schnauzers that were so nicely groomed and I turn to look at my BP and she looks tired, haggard, and neglected. I had to do something! So all day yesterday I thought I need to find a place closer to home or there goes my Saturday and my LO's pre-paid ballet class... So I googled (I thought I had exhausted Yelp looking for a groomer in my area). Low and behold, Doggy Dog comes up. This is a new place, I thought... So then I start reading the reviews and it's almost a perfect rating. I turn to Yelp and there it is. How have I not noticed this place before? I call, it's 4:15 in the afternoon and I'd like to come in tomorrow (Friday). We go through the discovery- what kind of dog, how old, valid rabies (mandatory and must show proof), and cost. All of the sudden she says, where do you live? Can you come now? ABSOLUTELY! Fast forward 30 mins and we are walking in the door. First left me say, this place is clean. You can tell Sheneeka takes pride in her business. The place is simply decorated and very clean. You don't have piles of dog hair everywhere (like that other place in Richmond that shall remain nameless). She quickly had me complete a couple forms and entered us into her computer system and off they went. It was 5:15 as I was driving away to go grab din for the family and pick up my daughter from preschool. By the time I got home and was settling to feed my LO dinner I get a call that BA is ready! AMAZING! It was 6:06 pm. At this point the anxiety kicks in. BA has had her share of bad haircuts- one that took over 2 years to correct. So we take the 5 mile drive to Richmond in worried anticipation/panic. Tick tock tick tock... When we arrived BA ran out to greet us and to say I almost cried is not an understatement. She looks amazing!!! Thank you so much Doggy Dog for making BA beautiful and herself again. I will definitely be back and this time I don't have to wait till my dog is shaggy and unrecognizable. I've been bringing by chihuahua to Shaneeka for about a year now for regular nail trim/grinding. I normally call a few days in advance and she is very good about fitting me. Veterinary offices take 20 minutes for a sloppy trim and charge an arm and a leg. Shaneeka is on time with a reasonable rate and takes about 5 minutes to get the job done. My chi can be a little squirmy during the process, and with black & white nails it is very difficult to see the nail bed but she's never hurt her. The nails are always perfectly trimmed and the edges are ground smooth to perfection. Thank you! read more

With four King Charles Cavaliers who need grooming it has been a challenge to find a good fit where my dogs are groomed and well treated. The big plus is Sheenaka books only one dog at a time . I am a little late posting this, as this was my experience from a few months ago, but feel it is important to share. I was so excited to find a groomer so close to home and really looked forward to taking my pup here for his first cut since I rescued him from the shelter. The reviews were all outstanding and I felt great knowing that others had such positive experiences with Doggy Dog. Unfortunately, we did not. My pup (a maltese/bichon type mix) had some matting from when I adopted him, and also was having a flea problem (despite flea treatments to our house and flea meds). I understood that he would need to be shaved and would also need a flea bath. When I went to pick him up, everything seemed fine. He had been completely shaved down, and they mentioned that he was sensitive about his paws. I thanked them, and took my pup home. The very next day, I woke up to my pup licking/biting his front paw non-stop. He then started limping. After examining it closer, I noticed it was very swollen and bright red. He was in a LOT of pain. At first I thought it was a hotspot, so I got some medicine for him and a cone so he would leave it alone. He seemed to be getting progressively worse, so I made an appointment and took him to the vet the very next morning. After going to the vet, not only did they tell me that his paw was severely infected, but they also noticed razor burn all over his belly, back legs, under his tail, and around his genitals. My poor baby was miserable. I had to get him antibiotics, pain medication, and a lotion for all of his sores. I'm really glad that everyone else seems to have had great experiences here and that my experience is not the norm, but I just can't risk this happening to my poor baby again. $380 later ($80 for the grooming, $300 for the vet), I can confidently say that I will not be going back to Doggy Dog. read more

The Mother decided we should take Bianco elsewhere to be groomed. We consulted not only the Yelp! reviews, we also consulted with one of our neighbors regarding Doggy Dog Grooming, as they have been satisfied customers for quite some time. Bianco knows not to challenge The Mother's decisions regarding his care and grooming. We rang them up and were delighted they could accommodate our Bianco the following day. We met Shaneeka, the owner and principal groomer of Doggy Dog Grooming. She interacted with Bianco while listening to how we wanted Bianco to look. Nothing fancy and froufrou, just a simple short haircut. Shaneeka asked us for specifics on how we wanted his ears and tail to look. It was not about how she thought our Bianco should look. After going over paperwork and dotting i's and crossing t's, Bianco happily went off with Shaneeka to get washed and groomed in the back. Shaneeka advised us she would ring us when our little guy was ready. Two hours later--true to her word-- our little fella was ready for pick up. Much to my delight, Bianco was waiting for us behind the counter with Shaneeka. I was delighted he was not waiting inside a kennel in the back. Shaneeka was delighted we came quickly to pick up Bianco. Bianco made another trip to DDG for a short haircut due to the hot weather. The Mother wanted to pick up her boy ASAP close to the time he would be ready. She sent me in to retrieve him. When Bianco heard my voice, he was quite excited. Shaneeka and her assistant were nearly done with grooming him. Shaneeka asked me about how his tail should look. I told her to make his tail plumey. Bianco was happy when Sheneeka was finished grooming him. As long as The Mother and Bianco are happy, we all are quite happy with Doggy Dog Grooming. read more

This was our first time taking our 5 month old Pomapoo for grooming and we had an amazing 1st experience! Shaneeka was super friendly and just all around great with dogs. She made sure to ask for exactly what we wanted and we could tell that our pup was really comfortable around her. She took about an hour and fifteen minutes (Which was super fast. She told us it typically takes 2 hours for puppies) and called us when she was ready for pick-up. When I came in I was so happy with the results and will definitely be coming back! I received an email follow-up days later, stating that someone else would contact me regarding setting-up an appointment. No one ever did. I never received a call or any further correspondence. It seems as though a good business at one time has now gone bad. It's possible that it either shifted ownership or has gone defunct. If you are looking for dog grooming in Richmond, I suggest driving a little farther out, to Albany (at the bottom of Solano Avenue). It's what I did. I found a great groomer there. My dog came out looking like a stud muffin. Great job on the grooming and the service was very professional. However, the thing that I like most about DDG is that my pooch is ready within two hours, unlike some other places where they have your dog waiting in a crate until its their turn, which can be anywhere from four to six hours!!! I wanted a Sat appt for my Shih Tzu and Yorkie, but she was booked (they're pretty much booked two weeks out) but she said she would call me back if they got enough customers to open on Sunday, which they did. I've been wanting to bring my dogs to Doggy Dog after reading all of the Yelp reviews and I'm glad I did. I am particular on who grooms my Diva Shih Tzu Mulan. I've taken her to four other groomers in Benicia and Vallejo, with mediocre results. I found Doggy Dog Grooming on Yelp, under "Shih Tzu Grooming" . I got a call back and an appointment quickly. Shanicka (?) the owner was extremely polite, friendly, and very knowledgable of various Shih Tzu cuts. The shop was very clean and welcoming. The BIGGEST thing was that Mulan is very shy, and always scared/shaking when I take her to get groomed. Not this time! Even when I picked Mulan up, she was sitting calmly on the grooming table!
