Incompetent & Rude Brought our English Springer Spaniel to be groomed. This was our third time visiting. Told them what to cut and where to shave, showing every single thing that needed to be done. Picked up Lizzie and saw what they had done to her. They trimmed all of her coat of with a shaver!! Any groomer knows that spaniels are NEVER shaved. For 12 years of her life this has never happened once. They also CUT her WHISKERS and EYEBROWS!!! I am so disappointed and upset I cannot express how unhappy I am with the service. Furthermore, when I asked them about why they would have done that the guy said "it's written on the card" so I asked to see where it said that, at which point he didn't even let me see the card. He blatantly lied to my eyes. Upon expressing my unhappiness they refunded me and the ginger-haired guy had the guts to say: "you should be happy, you got it for free". What sort of person would say that in such a situation? Any dog owner would pay double for their animal to be groomed properly. Shaving the coat means it will never be silky again. To conclude, the employers are very rude and frankly should be fired. They were incompetent and horrible. I do not recommend them to anyone. Spare your dog. read more

I've gotten a few treat and toys from here an my partners retriever loved it all. The little baked iced dog bone shaped biscuit smell so good! Very much cinnamon spice vibes. He loved them. Nice amount in there for only like $5. A few toys (as with most toy no matter the brand) are marketed as being indestructible... they aren't. Maybe the hold up a little more that others but definitely not indestructible. This is Doggy Style's fault. Thought I'd mention it though. Some aren't stuffed, so it makes clean up a breeze. We are going to venture into their grooming/spa services since we like their store. Overall, pup loves them and they are friendly! read more

I had a HORRIBLE experience here so wanted to share to offer a head's up. It was awhile ago but I figure a warning can't hurt. I took my dog to be groomed and they were renovating or something so they were only seeing grooming appointments at the groomers home near Logan Circle. We (my pooch and I) went in and I was asked what I wanted done. I asked for a short cut - a "puppy" cut. This term for my type of dog I thought was pretty clear (my bad). It means a short cut all over that looks somewhat like these dogs do when they are a puppy. Maybe it is 2-3 inches all over. When I went to pick up my dog I walked in and all I saw was this thing that looked like the bald cat on that episode of "Friends". I thought "Woha, that is a pretty nasty looking pup." Well that pup was my Boo Boo. The groomer had completely shaved him within an inch of his life. His whiskers were gone, his lashes were gone...he was a mess. I was so shocked and like an idiot I just needed to get out of there. Being in this person's basement made me leery to voice a complaint. It was a tad Psychoesque. I really was in shock. My poor dog was comatose - completely freaked out - I just wanted to get him home. I paid and like an IDIOT even left a tip. Looking back I could kick my own ass. My dog got depressed and was not himself for at least a month until his whiskers started growing back. He was embarrassed. Other dog owners might be able to attest that dogs do express these types of emotions. He hid under the bed for weeks. I asked vets and other groomers and they were all horrified at how closely he was shaved. I have asked every groomer I ever meet to define "puppy cut" and they all say the same thing as I have always known. It is as basic as asking for a "bob" and you get a mohawk! I do not think this groomer set out to harm my dog but he sure did fuck up. I learned my lesson. I suggest if you want to make sure you know what you are getting bring in a picture of your dog with the cut you are intending. Good luck. read more

I made an appointment with Doggie Style for the first time because of the rave reviews. I had an appointment at 8:30A today. We all have jobs, so you can imagine what an inconvenience it is to bring your dog in that early (on a MONDAY) when most people have to be at the office at 9AM. I arrived at 8:30A and rang the door bell. No one answered. (It says to wait a minute). I called. No one answered. I called and left a message expressing how disappointed and unprofessional this all was. At 9:15A, the person from Doggie Style not only had the temerity to tell me that she was late due to traffic (on RI Ave) and didn't call, but also HUNG UP ON ME as I expressed to her how disappointed I was about the lack of consideration of other people's time. Best dog groomers in dc. We have Old English Sheepdog (Tank) and they are prone to matting. Many low quality groomers shave him down because it is easiest, but DS spends time to brush out the mats and cut him properly. Highly reccomend. read more

I don't have a dog, so I have no clue what rawhides even are. (Any of you dog owners feel free to enlighten me!!). When I went to a "meet the baby" event a while ago, someone brought along a gift for the dog. I thought that was an awesome idea! So, when I passed by this store over the weekend, I immediately thought of a good friend who is having a baby soon. She has a sweet pooch, who could use a giftie with all of the presents and attention the baby will be receiving. Up the steel stairs I went. There is an actual bakery case with different shapes and sizes of bi suits. Doggie Style has plenty of "designer" leases and collars, too. And doggie coats and sweaters. The groomer's dog is adorable and friendly. She let me pet her. That was worth the trip inside, alone. read more

I love Doggy Style! They have a vast array of dog food and treats, including cute (and Instagram-friendly) homemade goodies. I also use their grooming service, which is top-notch. Mike somehow finds a way to clip my dog's nails without upsetting her, something I can never do. After each grooming, my dog is super soft and smells wonderful. She also seems happy and relaxed, which means a lot to me. The folks who work here are super nice and helpful. And there's a funny parrot named Mr. Wiggles who occasionally says hello. I come here for all my dog food and treat needs! This is close to my house so the convenience can't be beat. It's a small store on the second story and they don't have everything I could want, but there's plenty of treat and food options to satisfy my pup. I wish there was a better variety of toys and nonfood items, but it is a small storefront so they do what they can! I have not tried grooming services yet but plan to soon! Way overdue for an update! I bring Ti to doggie style every couple weeks for either a bath or a full groom and every time Mike does an AMAZING job. The prices are always fair ($25 for a bath, $65 for a full groom) and the service is always sooooooo friendly. They also have great products (I've tasted the homebaked dog treats and they were GOOD!) I love this small, boutique pet shop and bakery. When we walked in, my mouth started to water at the smell of the baked treats behind the glass. I had to do a double-take to make sure that those were, in fact, dog treats, not human treats! It's a small shop, so you may not find everything you need, but they do have a good selection of food, pet furniture, and accessories. I've never been for grooming, but it looks like a decent set-up. I am giving this place a 1 star, because we were extremely disappointed with our last visit. We have a larger dog that they said was "extremely matted" and the only thing they could do was shave her. Since it is winter, we do not want our dog shaved! They proceeded to tell us that they will not be able to trim her anywhere (not even her face) and that they had already given her a bath which would cost 65 dollars. After talking back and forth with the front desk staff, they finally agreed to trim her around the face. We picked her up and immediately brought her to another groomer for a second opinion. Not only did the groomer mention our dog was not badly matted , but he also said that he would be able to get them out and that the previous groomer didn't even attempt to do a proper job trimming around her face! This was not our first time coming to doggie styles, and every time I have picked up my dog (except for this time) they have brought the wrong dog out to me! I will not be returning to this place, and I will not be recommending it to anyone. read more

Small pet supply store/bakery, pretty dog-centric, but there's a small cat section. I bought a cool toy here for $4.99 -- It'a little nontoxic hemp sack full of organic catnip. It has a crazy bucktoothed mouse face. When the catnip gets old you can open the velcro and replace it with a new stash. My crackhead cat is all over it. Nice staff. I had my dog groomed here and was so pleasantly surprised because my dog was traumatized by another groomer and typically doesn't allow people to groom him. He came out looking really really great for an affordable price given that he's a poodle and was matted. I was really happy. I would rate 5 stars HOWEVER, when I called back to schedule again, I said what a great experience it was and I wanted the same groomer (my boyfriend dropped him off and picked him up so I didn't remember who groomed him) and they said oh yes, Pablo he's great. And I asked multiple times - my dog is very afraid of being groomed and the person who groomed him last preferred scissors which was works best - are you sure it was Pablo ? And I was confirmed yes. But when I got my text confirmation for the next appointment, I saw that previously he had seen Dereck. When I tried to call back and schedule specifically with Dereck the new person I spoke to let me know Dereck was no longer working there. I'm sure Pablo is great - but I really didn't appreciate feeling mislead, especially after explaining that my dog has a serious phobia of groomers and I was hesitant to try something new. The person could have been upfront with me instead of scheduling with someone new and assuring me it was the same person I had seen previously. In that case, I may have been open to trying someone new, but the feeling of being misled Made me want to cancel entirely. read more

The owner, is very knowledgeable about a lot things that have to do with your pet...in our case, we have two dogs and having just moved here, we weren't sure what we needed to do for fleas and ticks. She gave us the scoop about those pests in the D.C. area and how to deal with them. The store is right across the street from City Dogs where we take our pups for doggie daycare so this store is very convenient for us. 4 stars for me, but possibly more if they can keep it up. I needed to find a reliable and experienced dog groomer in DC and came across the reviews on Yelp. Always hesitant, I took the leap of faith and trusted my dog with Krista and friends and came away very satisfied with the grooming. Grooming a Portuguese Water Dog is not one of the easier breeds, and the team at Doggie Style seemed to handle the challenge. Not only did they groom my dog in the proper retriever cut I requested; they used a special non-allergic shampoo, cleaned his teeth, and used a unique technique to pluck his ear hairs -- all in under 3 hours! I was also pleasantly surprised that the grooming prices were comparable to other groomers in the DC area, given the unbelievable city location. Nice finishing touch with the doggie report card at the end --- Doggie Style is certainly my new favorite! read more

Mike the groomer does a great job. If you give specific instruction, he's great. That said, this operation is ridiculously bad. Every time I've come here (3x, always with an appointment), grooming ends up taking the whole day, despite being told it would only be an hour or two. I learned my dog ends up in a cage in the back for hours on end while they move through the line of pets. Why not service all animals in a reasonable window so they don't have to wait in cages? Or let owners know when to bring their pets by? This is a bigger concern because I've seen some larger dogs in smaller cages. Additionally, prices and services here are somewhat shady. It's not always consistent but they generally force an all-or-nothing approach for a grooming package. Communication between the front desk and back is often misleading (see other reviews). TL;DR actual grooming is pretty good. But pet storage conditions and general customer service are severely lacking and not worth the headache. read more

We live close to Doggie Style, so it's our go-to for treats and grooming. The staff is super friendly, and they always seem to recognize our pup when we drop in. We like their treats and toys. They always have super easy availability for basic grooming and you don't even need an appointment for nail clipping. Our pup is a little bit anxious, but he seems to warm up quickly to the staff. They usually finish his grooming within 15 minutes of the quoted time, and it seems reasonably priced ($65 for a bath, hair trim, nail clipping, gland relief, and ear clean). He's always happy to see us when we pick him up, but also seems to be in a good mood. It's not a huge store and can't be compared to say Petco or Petsmart in terms of selection and lower pricing, but we don't mind finding treats and toys here so we are supporting a local business. I also love their home-baked treats up at the front - they even have the ingredients listed so we can be sure the treats are something we don't mind feeding him. I'd recommend stopping by if you have a pup who needs grooming or you just want to get him a little something extra like a treat! read more

My fiance and I frequent Doggie Style for treats, toys, baths and nail clippings for our pup. The staff is always extremely friendly, and helpful if you have questions on anything. We tried to switch over our dogs food, and the woman (I can't remember her name but she's there almost every time I stop in) was so helpful. I even came 5 minutes before the store closed and she was still very patient and informative. I love this store. I wish it had a bigger selection of food so we didn't have to trek up to Petsmart to get his dog food, but it's super convenient, and not too expensive (relatively speaking). Our dog comes for baths and they give him a review when he leaves. It gives information about what things they did (nail clipping, ear cleaning, etc.) and it's nice to know if he was good for them. The last time he had a bath he was super lethargic for about 24-36 hours afterwards so I'm not sure if he was worn out from being so amped up or if he had some sort of medication to make him calm? All in all, I am happy they are in the neighborhood! FYI: get the frozen bones by the cooler near the door. Our pup absolutely loves them, and they take him a couple of hours to eat. read more

I've actually never been to the store but I ordered a birthday cake for my dog and had my wife pick it up. The cake was under $20 and a perfect treat for my 15 year old beast. My dog is a small 40 pound terrier but I would say this 5 inch cake could serve 2-3 small size dogs. It was a peanut butter base sponge cake with a "chocolate" coating. My dog really liked it! ZERO, ZERO, ZERO. If you want somewhere you can trust to take care of your puppy THIS IS NOT THE PLACE. After what should have been a simple grooming, my dog walked out with scars on his back and ear, as well as a laceration on his eyeball. The owner was reluctant to speak with me, using her employees as middlemen, who were not very helpful trying to tell me that "it is not a big deal." The risk of my 1 year old puppy going blind is a HUGE DEAL if you ask me. Please avoid this place if you love your dog, the vet bills and the pain induced to your puppy is just not worth it. When we arrived at 3:00 for our small dog's grooming Apt at Doggie Style the woman behind the counter warmly greeted us and the groomer rushed out to meet our dog. We left feeling confident that this place which had gotten such great reviews would certainly be able to give our pup the trim and wash she desperately needed, all for guaranteed price of "$35-45." As 5:40 approached I called and asked if everything was okay, as I knew they closed at 6:00 and I hadn't heard from them. The woman assured me things were great and that she was just being dried, but oh yes I should come and get her. When we arrived the woman was on the phone and simultaneously held our dog behind the counter and asked if she was ours, despite our excited dog's desperate attempts to greet us. Apparently on hold, she advised us she had to go back and dry our dog herself since she knew our dog 'didn't like men.' What? We never told her that...The kid behind the counter clarified that that was another dog. Oh okay, $45 then for her, she was very good, she said before clarifying, "no wait! $40." And with that we left. Our dog was still a bit matted, and her nails were kind of ragged, but she smelled nice and we were ready to leave. read more

I was very happy with the grooming services provided yesterday to my 10 year old shih tzu/maltese mix dog. The customer service was stellar as well - despite my running late, they didn't miss a beat and took my dog promptly and consulted with me for several minutes about what kind of cut my dog needed. They knew I wouldn't be able to pick him up until after work that evening, and they assured me he would get a quick walk in the afternoon. I received a text in the afternoon that he was ready to be picked up at my convenience, and that he was very well-behaved and looked great. And the report card I was given when I picked him up was adorable. I regularly visit the shop to pick up a special dog food that I haven't been able to find elsewhere, and I'm happy to continue giving my business to this establishment. After a nightmare grooming debacle at Planet Pet on 14th St., this was such a pleasure to bring my dog somewhere with such great service and my dog was happy and looked great. I came here on a review from a friend who also have a mini labradoodle. What I should have noted is that the friend referenced a specific groomer, but I was in a pinch for a grooming appt and Doggie Style only had one groomer available in the time frame I was looking for. My appointment was at 6:15 pm (the last of the evening) and I was running a few minutes late so I called ahead to let them know I was on my way and would be a few minutes late. When I arrived I was greeted by a woman, who I believe turned out to be the owner or manager (as later on the phone Krista told me "I was there for your appointment"). The very nice woman at the front desk had me start filling out paperwork and then (who I believe was) Krista had me stop the paperwork midway through and encouraged me to just send my dog back and finish the paperwork after because "I'm sure the groomer wants to get home" and mentioned something about herself wanting to get home as well. I should have noted this and thought twice about sending my dog back to be groomed by someone who must be in a rush to leave work. In any case, I showed them a specific picture of exactly what I wanted and sent him back. I dropped my pup off and went home and was told I'd receive a call when my dog was done. While I was on my way home I received a call that my dog was very matted and they would not have time tonight to do the whole cut if they demat him, or they could buzz him. I said I definitely did not want him buzzed and I encouraged them to do the trim around his face and demat him and it would be okay if they didn't get to the body cut. I returned around 7:45 to pick him up. When they brought him out his face was cut significantly shorter than the picture I had shown. His coat was very well combed and detangled, however I know the mats my dog gets and they are easy to get out - he mats easily and detangles easily. A friend who works at the humane society verified that calling my dog "extremely matted" was a severe over-exaggeration. When I arrived home I was inspecting my dog and noticed his face had a cut on it and his back paw nail had been cut VERY short and had bled a lot on his paw. I called the next day and was referred to contact Christa. I left Christa a message and after playing phone tag we had a conversation. Christa spent the first ten minutes of our conversation explaining all of the things that I already had acknowledged had happened - he needed a dematting, I told them what to prioritize, etc. She continued to stay on the defensive saying she "stood behind her groomer's decision" to cut him short but then later contradicted herself and said that he wouldn't have intentionally cut his face shorter, it would have naturally happened because of the dematting tool and the fact that my dog was so matted he was "like a carpet". She also said the groomer must not have "noticed" the nail bleeding and the cut on his face because he was so preoccupied with dematting my dog. She continued to try and blame my dog's knots on all of the difficulties I experienced with her. I had said at the beginning of the conversation that I would even consider coming back to them for a different groomer if she was able to reconcile the situation but she ended the conversation by saying she wasn't sure what I expected from them and I simply stated I would be taking my business elsewhere. read more

She proceeded to tell me they just don't have time to update the ad, that prices for my dog START at $50. Ridiculous. She was short and rude. Why only 1 star? I have been to doggy style 4-5 times, most visits have been quite pleasant. For some reason when my gf takes our dog there there always seems to be a problem. This last time was the last straw. After scheduling an appt. she takes our pug to the spa only to find out they "don't do pugs"? Since when? "ohh well i'm allergic" Well sorry, your in the wrong business!! if your allergic to dog hair how can you be a groomer? So then they still charge us $60 for 1/2 ass service. I love anywhere I can bring my puppies, and they are so genuinely nice and caring at Doggy Style, it makes avoiding the crack heads trying to pet my dogs during the trek down 18th street worthwhile. They have everything we need, from potty pads to organic puppy shampoo to pretty collars and leashes. oh, and toys that dont suck (is it wrong that I feel kind of offended by marbled rubber toys and brightly colored squeaky things)! They do some basic grooming while you wait- we've only had their nails clipped, but they were quick and the puppies barely even noticed what was happening. And they deliver!!! I think that is so great, I secretly really enjoy having things delivered. The only reason I didnt give them 5 stars was because they recommended a rawhide chew that I later found out was a bad idea to give puppies. read more

Disappointing. I took my 8lb dog here 2 weeks ago and specifically asked more than once that her glands be expressed. When I picked her up she looked fantastic but sure enough her "report card" said nothing about her glands so the owner said she'd ask the other groomer to check them before we left. She came back and said they were empty- so when my dog was scooting 4 days later I knew that couldn't be true. I took her to the vet and sure enough they were overly full. Completely disappointed with the lack of transparency. For small dogs you can't mess with the potential for anal gland rupture and this place blatantly lied about taking care of them. I would not go back because that-- Not to mention grooming was $65. There are much better deals around the city. read more

As terrible as I feel having to write this review since our experiences with Doggie Style up until now have been good, and we enjoy supporting local businesses, I have serious concerns about the cleanliness of the "fresh" baked dog treats at the front in the bakery case. Unfortunately, this afternoon we found a live worm (see photo) in a leftover crumb of a "cookie sandwich" we bought as a nice weekend treat for our dog. The worm was in the "icing" middle of the cookie sandwich and thank god our dog didn't ingest it, but we are worried there were more he ate in the cookie. We took the worm in the cookie bag right back to the store (we live a block away), and surprisingly the owner didn't seem at all surprised or apologetic, and basically said dogs can handle these things and simply offered a refund, that was it. I told her we would be back if he got sick and a call to our vet suggested the same. Suffice it to say we are thoroughly disgusted and won't be spending another cent at Doggie Style. read more

After recently adopting a shih tzu, I started looking for a groomer in the area. The problem is, it seemed like all DC groomers were the same price and had the same reviews--some immensely positive and some negative. It was actually a little bit overwhelming. I ended up asking for a recommendation from a fellow shih tzu owner in my building, and he said to go to Mike at Doggie Styles. When I dropped off my dog, I'm sad to say that he was in a little bit of a funk and had been a little snappy and growly that day. Instead of being alarmed, though, the lady at the front desk started talking to him, gave him a treat, and started petting him to calm him down. When Mike came out, he asked me questions about his age, where he came from, and if there were any behaviors that he should know about. He also started playing with my dog and getting to know him, while very kindly dismissing his bad behavior that morning. Since this was my first grooming, I also didn't know what I should be asking for regarding hair style, so I simply told Mike that the dog had some matting from the shelter and that he could go as short as necessary to get it off. Mike looked at the matting in front of me, then said he'd be able to get it without trimming my dog too short, since it was winter and he didn't want him to be cold. This was VERY much appreciated, since I needed and wanted some direction. Doggie Styles called when they said they would to give an update (incidentally, this was around 3:30 p.m. and my dog was already done by then) and when I went to pick him up, he looked very handsome and happy. He ran right out and greeted me and played with Mike and the lady at the front desk as if he had the best day of his life. My boyfriend is always wary of groomers, because he is adamant that he doesn't want the dog drugged for grooming. Let me tell you, there is no way my dog was sedated--he was running and playing the entire way home. Overall, I had a good experience here and will be bringing my shih tzu back. They are reasonably priced for the area, and all of the good reviews about Mike are true--he is excellent with small dogs. read more

This place has ruined my one adorable dog. I have a goldendoodle who was very cute and had a teddy bear look. I wanted him to have a shorter hair cut for the summer and clearly explained to the groomer that I wanted him shorter but obviously he is not a poodle and should not be cut like one. I specifically said "keep the same style on his face". Well a mere 5 hours later (when I had to call them because I never heard from them when I thought I would) we got a totally different looking dog. Yes, its just hair and it will grow back (hopefully) but for a dog that had such a unique look and I specifically said "do not cut his facial hair off" it was very disappointing to get a dog back whos whole body had been shaved. Terrific doggie delicacy paradise! I popped in to pick up some food for my boys and had a silly good time picking out special treats! They ended up with cupcakes which looked so good I wanted to taste them myself. Following Krista's advice, I didn't eat them, but my dogs have been giving me adoring gazes ever since I bestowed the "sweets" upon them. I'm so happy it's so close by. My boys have no idea how many new treats await them! Mutt licks, puppy pops, oh my! Also worth noting, super cute collars and leashes, bowls, crates, you name it, you can get it there for your furry kids. Yes, they deliver, but it's worth the trip to go in person for sure. read more
