The staff was kind and friendly, but overall the experience felt very unorganized. When I arrived to pick her up, no one seemed to know what was going on whenever I had questions. I had also specifically called ahead to make sure she would be freshly groomed before pickup, as we are highly allergic to other pet hair. Unfortunately, she was not properly groomed, even though I was charged for the service. Overall, while everyone was nice, I was disappointed with the lack of communication and organization, and I probably would not choose to have her stay here again.

Upon arriving, we were all greeted enthusiastically and Gracie did not show any trepidation about going with the groomer, which she usually does when going to get groomed. She was very happy when we picked her up and looked beautiful. Masterpiece did a phenomenal job. The space is clean, open (so you can see what is being done to your dog), and it only took an hour. I met Kerith (owner of POTH) when I first moved to the Hill in 2013. She started walking Sam and,…read moreover the years, a few of her employees walked Sam too. POTH has been a rock for us and Sam since joining the community. Sam is a yellow Labrador who is now about 8 years old. Kerith and her team have cared for him as if he was their own. In times of emergency, we have been able to call Kerith for help. For example, my wife and I were out of town for work last summer. Sam was staying with one of our friends while we were gone when, unexpectedly, he developed a stomach bug. Our friend is not a 'dog person,' so she was unequipped to deal with the emergency (mentally or logistically). I called Kerith. The next morning at 7am, POTH picked up Sam and rushed him to Atlas Vets on H Street (whom I also recommend). Everything turned out OK but, without POTH, the experience could have turned south real quickly. I recommend POTH to all Hill residents. Once you're part of the POTH family, they will be there for you and your buddy (dog) for ever. This is not the case for other dog walkers.

I selected Pets on the Hill, a small service, rather than larger services in the area because I wanted my dog to have consistency (i.e. a friendly relationship with 1-2 walkers). Initially this was the case and Kerith, his primary walker, provided text messages about his walks. Over time, I stopped receiving updates about his walks and there was no consistency in who was walking him. On my last walk request--which was scheduled through Kerith and delegated to another walker due to Kerith going on vacation--my dog was left and no one ever came to walk him. Kerith did not notify me of a schedule conflict at any time. When I came home and discovered that my dog had not been walked, I texted Kerith asking for my keys to be returned (so that I could use them to secure a new service) and she did not respond for more than 48 hours. When she did respond, she simply said that she was "sad" that my dog needed to go out and was not attended to rather than apologizing for his neglect or the complete lack of communication. Rather than returning my keys (a small consolation for a bad experience), she directed me to get them myself. If you are searching for professionalism and reliability this is not the service to use. Regardless of accommodations for personal travel or time off, there is no excuse for not communicating. Lack of concern for animals who have been entrusted in your care is also completely inexcusable for a company with animal care as its primary mission.
