I brought my 4-month-old miniature short-haired Dachshund here for his first-ever nail trim, hoping it would be a gentle, positive experience. To my shock, it was the main groomer and owner who performed the trim -- and within seconds, she cut his quick on the second nail, causing him intense pain. From that moment, he developed severe trauma around nail trims. I cannot clip his nails at home, and he now even needs a muzzle at the vet to get it done. It's extremely concerning that the owner herself caused this, especially with a brand-new puppy. My dog has never been more beautifully groomed, anywhere! I was astonished to read the reviews that suggest your pet is not loved and groomed properly here. I don't believe you. These folks love what they do; and love each pet that comes through their door. Yes, it is expensive. But that suggest this isn't the price point for your grooming needs. So feel free to shop around or go to Petco. It's like shopping at Neiman Marcus vs. Walmart. There is nothing wrong with Walmart; but it is a different experience from Neimans. The marketplace is full of options for those to choose what they are willing to pay for. To complain of the price, but then say they did a good job seems unfair to this business. To take your dog in matted, and feel the price shouldn't reflect your negligence to brush your dog is unacceptable. It's your job to care for your pet! The thing is furry moms and dads, Petco can't do what master groomers do. It's a craft and a love....not a job. Shop for a price that feels comfortable for you. Chichie's takes amazing care of our puppy. The folks here are very nice, and seem genuinely happy to see every dog that walks through the door. We went in a couple of times right after we brought our pup home, just to get him used to the people and place. He always left spoiled with hugs and compliments. Now that he is fully vaccinated, he's actually staying for grooming sessions, and still looks happy as ever when we come to pick him up. I've dealt mainly with the owner's daughter, who has been been nothing but kind and welcoming. She's taken the time to answer many questions, provide advice when asked, and clear day to day care instructions when necessary. There's a reason they've been around as long as they have. read more

Please read the bad YELP reviews also. I did not and boy was that the wrong move. Every single bad review that mentioned how Chichie did a bait and switch by quoting people one price at first and then charging them something different when they picked up their puppy was CORRECT. They quote you one price, and you pick your doggie up and suddenly the price has drastically gone up. The worst part of this was when we questioned why they told us that he was a "biter" and they had to TIE HIS SNOUT DOWN to groom him and that is why they increased the price. Our doggie is 3.5 years old and under 10lbs. He is a shitzu-Yorkie mix and is regularly at the groomer every 6 weeks. I've never had a groomer tell me that before. Did they tie HIS SNOUT DOWN? I can't imagine anyone would want that for their dog. Tell all your friends, do not support these people. read more

This is without question, the best groomer in DC- as long as you can get over the sticker shock of the price - it is very worth it. My dog never had issues with groomers until one traumatic experience in DC, and afterwards he would not tolerate anyone - even me - to give him a good cut. Eventually my toy poodle got extremely matted and I simply couldn't handle to trim myself. I took him to Chichies and they were so gentle with him and thorough - he looked fabulous and does not get nervous when we go back. I also love that they take time to explain to me why certain things are important and the unique qualities of my dogs hair and the care that it needs to maintain it. I will acknowledge that their services are expensive - however, the quality and time spent is fairly on par with their pricing. If price is very important to you, than talk with them about price when you drop off your dog. I went in for a bath and asked if touch ups around the face and eyes were included - and was told that they were- and they ended up doing a lot more than that and charging me extra. I was a little disappointed because I had asked specifically - but they handled it extremely professionally and let me know that they did a lot more than what is typically included in a bath - but because they had told me $95 they honored that price. For someone in my mid-twenties - this is a lot for a bath and light trim, don't get me wrong - but I can truly say that my dog looks incredibly better and is visibly happier every time we leave because of the care they provide. I definitely recommend their services and will be better about coming consistently - high prices and all. It's absolutely worth it when you are caring for your pets. read more

I used to bring my pup in for nail clippings for the past 2 years. I always called before to schedule a time that worked for the staff. This last phone call, I was rudely told that 'things have changed and they'll only do clippings with a full groom'; absolutely no warning or explanation. I'm appalled at the customer service. I understand business models and services morph over time- but the way in which I was talked to was pretty terrible. The girls that used to work there were so friendly but it seems like new staff have really brought down the mark. I unfortunately will not be coming to Chichie's anymore :( read more

Groomer criticized me for giving my dog baths at home instead of at a salon. Mediocre basic cut and shampoo $150. Staff seemed in a daze and had no sense of personal space. I dropped our 4 month old puppy off at ChiChie's in the morning and was greeted by the owner. She had some great advice for my first visit and I instantly trusted her. She takes her grooming very seriously, so if you are more of a do it yourself dog washer/groomer...this place may be a bit too much for you. My puppy warmed up to her immediately and I fell comfortable leaving him in ChiChie's care. Later that day I came back and found him so happy and looking amazing. She did everyhing she promised and I will go back without question. The facilities are very inviting and despite the amount of dog traffic, it didn't smell like "dog" at all. I love Chichies. The atmosphere of the grooming spa is welcoming and relaxing. Professionalism and courteous service is another feature I appreciate. This is a groomer who takes grooming seriously and understands how to cut different dogs according to their breed standard so it costs just like your hair. They hand scissor, and much more that is time consuming and results in a great cut and care. If you want Hair Cuttery for doggies this is not your place. Either works for me, but I prefer Chi Chis and Elise is caring and nice. read more

The salon is nice. The staff were really nice. However, the $195 price for shampoo, blow out, and nail trim for my coton de Tulear was revealed after the service. I was shocked. They did a wonderful job, though. I just can't afford that price. I've been taking my dogs to Chichie's Grooming Spa for for over 14 years now. For a long time they groomed my 2 Yorkies...and now they groom my Shih Tzu. I love the way they cut hair and do all the other little things...they always smell and look FABULOUS when I pick them up. I can't snuggle enough into the fur!! Looking good is obviously important but MOST important is my dogs mental and physical health... and it makes me very comfortable to see how happy my dog is to go for her grooming appointment...sometimes she doesn't want to leave. Chichis's Grooming Spa is on a different level than other dog grooming places...after you've had your dog groomed there it's disappointing to go elsewhere not to mention the horror stories you hear about groomers who don't know what they're doing. The fact that Chichie's is a family run business that has been around forever tells me they know their stuff and they aren't going anywhere so I know who I'm really dealing with. 5 Paws Up for Chichie's!! This is a nice little grooming spot in Georgetown. The place is very clean and the staff are very nice. I think the specialize in small dogs though, as I've never seen a dog bigger than a Beagle in there. They did wash and clip Emma, the Wonder Dog's nails and did a good job, but not a whole lot better than I could have done myself. read more

All four of my CAIRN TERRIERS have been groomed at Chichies over the past 5 years or so and they only thing they could possibly do better is make it cost less. Aside from being the nicest businessperson in Washington DC, ChiChie and her daughter know what the dogs are supposed to look like, understands the importance of not shaving a hard/wiry coat and truly LOVES dogs. Yes, the service is pricier than the competition, but it is SO MUCH BETTER that the comparison isn't useful. My pups look beautiful and seem very pleased with their visit to Chichie's as well! I will not be taking my puppy here. Only one phone call to ChiChie's, and I experienced some of the rudest "customer service." I called to get additional information about ChiChie's services and pricing, as the content on their website is rather limited and pricing is likely to change with the individual dog. After providing some information about my puppy's grooming history (frequency, type of services, etc.), the woman on the phone said: "You know, you took him to the worst places possible" (referencing the other DC grooming spots). To ChiChie's: such comments are not appreciated. Guilting/offending potential customers is not the way to win them over. While I MIGHT be willing to pay the quoted $125 for a bath, cut, and nail trim, I won't be doing so at a place with such arrogance. "A DOG'S TORTURE!" Some days ago we took our dog to Chichie's because I was captivated by their site and read some positive reviews. Instead, our dog had an awful, terribly-performed and over-priced cut. We ended up paying $90 as a rebate, because they acknowledged several mistakes and preformed a rotten job. We left our dog at Chichie's around 9am, and were told to come back at 6:00 pm. To our surprise, the dog was still unattended after 9 hours and we had to wait till 7:30 for second-rate results preformed quickly. I'm sure our dog spent such time in a cage (you can see the cages in their site). The worst part of the story started the day after: I asked Chichie's to trim our pets groin area for hygiene reasons; instead, they DRY SHAVED areas in my dog's chest and belly. I wish I could post pictures to show how the skin is scrapped and irritated. We took our pup to a Hospital for Animals (and spent an extra $160 ). The vets spread calming lotion, bandaged his chest and belly all around and used the Elizabethan plastic collar to avoid bites and scratches due to itchiness and skin irritation. There is not much to do until hair grows back and the skin heals. We brought our dog to Chichie's on Thursday, today is Wednesday and he is still jumpy, restless and very uncomfortable trying to scratch and avoid any contact. He barely eats or sleeps due to itchiness and runs up and down the stairs all day (and night !!!!) seeking comfort. BEWARE of Chichie's, it is NOT a pet spa!! it is a pretentious, extremely expensive and hazardous place for animals. Personnel could be nice and they may have a cozy living room, but they couldn't care less about your pet, they will only take your money. Plenty of it !!! read more

I cannot say how dissatisfied I was with the services provided by Chichie's. We recently moved to the area and since they are within a block I wanted to make an appointment for my dogs. I called for 2 weeks straight and left messages and didn't hear back. After a couple months I finally got a call back. By then I had brought the dogs somewhere else. A few weeks ago my boyfriend decided to bring one of our dogs there to be groomed (no cutting). He was not aware of the fact I had tried to bring the dogs there before. He dropped the dog off and picked her up 4 hours later. She smelled great but they charged over $90 to wash our dog, clip her nails, and clean her ears. I know we are in Georgetown but that is a little ridiculous. I was sitting on the couch later that night and was playing with my dog's paws and noticed that her nails hadn't even been cut! There are plenty of other decent dog groomers in DC. Don't waste your time or money with this place. read more

Felt totally ripped off. When I picked up my medium-size dog, they told me the price for having brushed the dog out--no extra services-- was $295. This was up from $100 the last time I was there. When I said they should have told me the huge price upfront, they said they couldn't have possibly known in advance, which I thought was dishonest. Chichie and her daughter are total scam artists. They may be experienced groomers but they have no business sense--case in point they charged $235 to groom my bichon frise! And he ended up with a poodle cut! Their location may be good and their clientele may be high profile, but nothing makes up for the fact that they're out to take advantage of you (and won't quote a price until the job is done). Do yourself a favor and take your furry-one elsewhere, unless you and your pocketbook don't mind being abused. With chichie's rude telephone manner, it's a wonder they stay in business... but as they say, "a sucker is born every minute." My dog Scarlet, a 14 year-old Bichon, received her first haircut at ChiChie's this afternoon. The groomer she went to for years would no longer cut her hair due to her age and medical concerns but the ladies at ChiChie's were up for the challenge. They truly went out of their way to accommodate my dog and FAR exceeded my expectations. My dog looks and feels great and I am so relieved. You cannot put a price on that. read more

I LOVE ChiChie's. My maltese, Lola, has been going there since she was a puppy, and she is beside herself with excitement every time we go back for grooming. She not only comes out looking like a superstar, they take care of her as if she was their own dog. Chichie's has years of experience and is really really knowledgable in their field. When I moved abroad they sat down with me and lay out all the questions I should ask/ characteristics to look for while searching for a new groomer. Needless to say, Lola and I came straight to ChiChie's the moment we moved back to DC.
